I guess there's something about getting yourself a sickly, small amish girl that makes guys read so many of these.

Lucy has always been tiny and sickly, since she was born prematurely (in an emergency that took her mamm's life). She can't run and play with the other kids, so since she's stuck inside, her stepmom and two stepsisters rely on her to clean, cook, bake, and basically Cinderella their farm. Mostly, though, she just wants to be left alone to embroider - at the moment, she has a deadline for an intricate tablecloth/napkin set that will be auctioned to help a local food pantry. And she's not having the time to work on it that she desperately needs.

Nick's brother started a fire in an Englischer's house. It's X-mess, and their father is under a lot of stress and not well, on top of the family store being in it's crazy season. They also can't afford to have someone do the repairs. So Nick is going to do them, himself. Only he needs an excuse to cover for what he's *REALLY* doing.

So Nick devises a plot: He'll 'court' Lucy. By taking her out and dropping her at the library, she can embroider in a corner in peace while he goes to the cabin and makes the repairs. It's a win-win for both of them - she can finish her project, he can fix his brother's mess, and both their families will be happy with the match-up. Nevermind that it's fake.

Or is it? Lucy's always been seen by everyone as 'dull', but he's really enjoying Lucy's unexpected personality. Nick's always been seen as a player, but it turns out he's more loyal and devoted than Lucy expected.

This would've been five stars, if not for two things: #1 -there is hardly ANY faith in this book. I really have a hard time with inspirational fiction that isn't inspirational. And #2 - the misunderstandings between them are SO. OVER. THE. TOP. that they drove me crazy. Not even insane people jump to the ridiculous conclusions that these two do. I... liked the book. A lot. But *sheesh*, that was a lot of drama for the sake of plot tension that just felt contrived.

Still. Definitely a fun read, if you like Cinderella-esque stories. :)

Her Amish Holiday Suitor is an outstanding story written by Carrie Lighte. This was such a sweet story full of forgiveness, love, and Skittle deceit. The deceit is done in a harmless way but made for a great journey. The characters are absolutely likeable and made you feel like you were invading their privacy as their plan plays out.

This storyline is fast moving and really kept my interest throughout the entire book. The author has done an amazing job telling her story thru her characters. This story reminds us that there is someone special for everyone you just have to be patient.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Congratulations to Carrie Lighte on writing such a fantastic story for her readers enjoyment.

Nick is pretending to court Lucy so he has an excuse to cut back on his time at the family hardware store during the evenings. He’s trying to fix one of his irresponsible brother’s many mistakes, as big brothers do. On the surface Nick and Lucy appear to be complete opposites, but as they spend more time together they realize that they might have more in common than first meets the eye.

This is my third book by Carrie Lighte, I never would have expected liking an amish story so much, but so far all her novels have been quite good. A great evening read once the chores are done.

I'm not sure why I've apparently gotten on an Amish romance reading kick, but here I am. This is my second one, and it was a wonderful little story. I related to the main character, Lucy, who is bookish and thoughtful and just wants to be left alone to do her embroidery. She strikes an arrangement with Nick, who is the Amish version of a playboy, courting young ladies left and right and not even ending it with one before he takes another one riding in his buggy. Nick, control your damn self.

Anyway, the arrangement is that Nick will pretend to court Lucy so he has an excuse to be out evenings. People think he's with Lucy, but he's really fixing a cabin his irresponsible brother Kevin accidentally set fire to while hanging out with some English folks. (This is one of Nick's many irresistible "save the cat" moments.) Lucy says OK because she wants another young man, Frederick, to stop macking on her at carol sings. Nick, however, realizes that Lucy is awesome, which we know from chapter one.

I enjoyed the way English society lurking on the fringes of the community was incorporated. The temptation of hanging out with the English kids, who have alcohol and crowded house parties. The external demand for Lucy's embroidery. The competition posed by English businesses, who have Sunday hours and internet connections. All of this felt real. The payoffs at the end felt authentic and earned. Christmas-themed Amish romances are my new comfort food, in between the harshness of books about the rest of the punishing world. I will buy more books from this author.

I really liked the set up for this story and it was a quick, fairly enjoyable read. However, the main characters were very immature throughout the book, and I never felt like they grew enough to think they were anywhere near ready to be courting or thinking of marriage. Not to mention that there is an unexpected lack of faith content.

Exceptionally good story. Author has a very good message behind it. Not being honest and jumping to c conclusions before you find out is its the trueth or not can totally ruin a relationship. Everyone is so quick to gossip and run with that gossip not caring who it is going to hurt in the end.

This is a wonderful story with a great message: Put off what others say about a person and get to know them yourself. Nick Burkholder and Lucy Knepp put this to the test when they enter into a fake courtship. Theirs is a sweet story of love and forgiveness.

What I was hoping for. I know not everyone understands my fascination with Amish romance novels set at Christmas, but this is a very good of one.

Lucy Knepp doesn't consider herself one of those single Amish women the men in her district might want to court. She's busy volunteering and also making beautiful embroidery for sale. When Nick Burkholder decides to help out his younger brother after he causes damage to a local cabin, he asks Lucy if she'll go along with him by pretending they are courting so that he'll have an excuse to cut back on his time at the family hardware store. He'll use that extra time to repair that cabin, but it has to be done before Christmas, when the owner plans a big celebration there.

Lucy reluctantly goes along with Nick and then finds herself seeing him through new eyes when he helps here at the food bank and in other ways, too. But several episodes where Nick seems to be going after other women give Lucy pause just when she's considering she might really want him to court her. What's a woman to do? What's Nick got to do to set Lucy straight?
