This one, a book first published in 1963, filled with black-and-white pictures, and writing style with no goal other than brevity is the best text ever written on subject of automobile operation.

The key - the author start it simple, treating the reader as a toddler with a blank mind who knows absolutely nothing. Then, the writer gradually advance the concept with mere steps each time, until the reader have the whole picture of an actual running system and every detail at the back of his hand. And this method is used in each chapter.

This is how every science book should be written and I can see no hurdles to give birth to aspiring engineers for the future. I will even go as far as saying being destined to found this book is a blessing in itself.

Perhaps the only negative side to this book is since it's an old piece, technologies covered are pretty much outdated and some were no longer used. Newer developments missed a chance to be included in the book. And even though the title says "mechanic", it barely contains any hands-on guide. Even the chapter dedicated for tools do not provide instruction for using the tools.

Overall, this book is easily worth ten other books in its topic. Each description is done simply yet amazingly detailed. By the end of a chapter, the reader should have a complete comprehension of the topic down to the last piece of screw.

This isn't a job well done. It's a masterpiece.
