As an Alpha Brogan Ford had the world in his hands and if he had his way that world wouldn’t include Omegas. His status meant that he could voice his opinion and treat Omegas with callous disregard without fear of repercussion. All that changed on the night that he met his soulmate, Caden Cooper. Cade was the smallest and prettiest male Alpha Brogan had ever encountered, and to him that meant that Cade was to be his Omega. While consummating their union Brogan attempted to claim and turn Cade, but Cade’s wolf had other ideas. When Cade encountered his soulmate while he was out with friends he knew that his life was going to change given that his mate was an Alpha. Because of the differences in their sizes, Cade was sure that he was going to be on the losing end of their struggle and he said goodbye to his Alpha status on the drive to the hotel. After a brief scuffle, it was Cade who bested the bigger Alpha and now the two of them have to navigate their new relationship as they fight both enemies Brogan made in his past and Brogan’s denial about his new place in the world.
Brogan is an Alpha brought up by a father who has the lowest opinion there is of Omegas; that they are good for nothing but cooking, cleaning and sex. Not knowing any other way Brogan is a victim of his upbringing.
Brogan has no intention of ever bonding with an Omega and instead has a Beta girlfriend, but one night he meets his true mate, Cade, in a bar parking lot. Cade is an Alpha just like Brogan. Unable to resist Cade, Brogan takes him with the full intention of overpowering him and turning him into an Omega. Being much smaller built Cade resigns himself to becoming the Omega in the relationship, but that's not what happens. Instead Cade overpowers Brogan and Brogan becomes the Omega.
Brogan has an extremely hard time coming to terms with the fact he is no longer a powerful aggressive Alpha and is now (in his own eyes) a weak and pathetic Omega who will basically be a slave for the rest of his life. Brogan's new Alpha, Cade, is nothing like his father and goes out of his way to try to help Brogan adjust and become an equal mate, but Brogan doesn't make it easy. Not only is he trying to adjust to being a mate, his new physical changes and changes in his workplace, but he's also confronted by all the Omega's in his workplace and life that he previously treated like lower class citizens.
This book is unique in the way that there aren't many shifter books with the storyline of Alpha's turning other Alpha's into Omega's. It had medium to high angst at times. I very much connected emotionally with both Brogan and Cade. The book is written in dual POV, but not necessarily by chapter. Some chapters have POV's by both characters.
The MC's are both relatable and you can understand where they are both coming from. However I empathize much more with Cade. I empathize with Brogan, but sometimes he is his own worst enemy. Hell, make that most of the time. At certain moments of
My only dislike for this book is that it needs a serious editing. There are typos, wrong words used and punctuation errors. Around 80% and on there also seemed to be several sentences that had extra words that had no use or made no sense where they were placed. Despite those issues I loved the book to much to downgrade it a star for that.
Warning: Be sure to check the Author's trigger warning in the blurb for this book. While the warning states Chapter 17 is graphic in regards to . The part that really upset me most in regards to the scenes in that chapter were actually later on in chapter 19, page 232, and was more graphic. So you might want to skip that page.
Oh man the roller-coaster of emotion that is this book.... I appreciate the author attempt at one of my favorite trope, and trying to stick with her gun. But I just couldn't agree with the resolution. I know this is a hfn, but the ending just doesn't sit well with me.
Rant aside, if there one advice I have for the sequel, I hope that they would do a good research on depression. Especially
Have you ever met a horrible misogynist guy, and you thought he would be different if he were a woman for a month? This book explores a similar possibility, but in a world with omega/beta/alpha dynamics. In this world, omegas are treated as second-class citizens. Brogan is an alpha who believes that omegas should have fewer rights than they already have. And he's not afraid to be a dick to every omega that he knows. So when at some point Brogan becomes an omega was hard for me to feel any sympathy for him. I kept thinking karma is a bitch. He suffers a lot in the story and is forced to adapt to the behavior expected of an omega. He struggles a lot because he was born an alpha, and he thinks that rules don't apply to him. Eventually, he becomes less infuriating, and his relationship with Cade begins to work out. And when I say relationship, I mean a typical alpha/omega relationship where the alpha makes the decisions. Even if Cade was an alpha better than Brogan, I had problems with him. Overall, I liked the plot and the author's writing.
This was an awesome story. I have to say this was one the best books I've read so far this year. I liked the characters and the premise of the story. I gave a 4 star because I liked the story but it deserved a 3 for editing reasons. It was missing or wrong words throughout the story, not enough to knock me out of the story but enough to be annoying. I guess it ended on a HFN note. I would definitely read the next book.
I don’t even know why I’ve read it. Not my best idea because I knew I would hate the world building, which is just rooted in misogyny. And I was right. But I still had hopes
It just made me angry. The world building didn’t even made sense because of how omegas were treated nobody should have said that they are worshipped or how proud all the omegas are about being omegas. Proud of what? Having no rights at all? But the oppressed should be grateful for being oppressed, right? And we love the misogyny in a world building like that. Always a great analogy.
Also Cade raped Brogan. He did and it should have been named as such.
And he did nothing to help Brogan adjusting and most of the time he did not even treat him with basic human decency. And if he did, he wanted to be celebrated for the bare minimum. Caden just felt sorry for himself all the time because he had it so rough with Brogan, who, by the way, just lost all his rights and his life. But nobody cared. But who needs basic human rights? Not omegas apparently. And you can’t be unhappy about it because it’s more important your alpha gets all the sex he wants.
Their relationship had not one positive aspect. It was forced till the end. Caden wanted a slave and got one. Nice ending, right?
And don’t even get me started on the portrayal of abortions.
3.5 stars. The plot surely got my attention but the enviroment seemed so toxic to fully enjoy the book, it was weird that both of the MC couldn't stay as alpha and how ther society treated the Omegas. Yeah Brogan was a real piece of shit at the start but honestly Cade didn't behave like a good character, in fact he ended up being the same as Brogan and the pregnancy bullshit was just what made him dislike him worst than Brogan, I think the new omega should've ended with Jake who is the only character that I liked here.
I honestly read this book because the plot had an original slant to it. Which I liked. It had interesting characters. I loved that the situations, relationships, and emotions are works in progress. Let's face it when traumatic things happen. We are rarely magically just ok. I'm not usually a stickler for grammer, word usage, or obvious typos.... but it happens alot in this book. Also, be warned there are triggers to this book.
There were definate parts that I liked in this book, and parts that I didnt.
A different take in the Omegaverse. Following Brogan as he is changed from alpha to omega, after years of feeling above omegas. This world omegas are lacking a lot of freedom and respect. Cade is a sincere alpha. Their story is causes one to experience a lot of different emotions.
Superior Story Using Alpha, Beta, and Omega Structure
As a human who has made mistakes, hang in through the first bit where the MC shows his colors, cause they ain't pretty. But perfect people make for perfectly boring stories, and this one is the opposite of that. Stayed up waaay too late to finish this one.
I know I have left a lot of reviews saying wtf? But like seriously wth!?!?!?!? Talk about a rollar coaster ride like Jesus! The ending to this book includes a sneak peek to the next one. DONT READ IT! You will kicking yourself!
This was NOT the easy smutty rump I expected when I added this book to my tbr and I don't know how to feel about that. At the one hand writing a serious story could have been interesting but the world building just felt off.
