When the King owns your words, who will own your heart?

Manipulated by a vicious King, Jeremiah is stripped of his identity and forced into a life of silent submission as a Whisperer. Allowed only to speak at the command of the King, one thousand Whisperers must line up in rows and chant their sadistic ruler's darkest desires. As each evil wish comes true, the King's power over his impoverished kingdom grows.

When Jeremiah's fears for the family he left behind are confirmed, he turns in desperation to the most unlikely person for help--the King's eldest daughter. But is Princess Rose as kind as she is beautiful, or will she lure him into a trap?

To save those dearest to him, Jeremiah has no choice but to put his trust in Rose, whose own life is threatened as her father prepares to clear the path to the throne for his newborn son. Together they embark on a bold plan to overthrow the King and set the Whisperers free.

As love blossoms in this most unlikely place, Jeremiah and Rose must discover how to use the power of the spoken word to conquer more than just the kingdom. They will need to conquer their hearts.

The first book in the spellbinding The Kingdoms of Evernow series, this is a must-read by award-winning author, Heidi Catherine.

Heidi Catherine writes fantasy and dystopian novels, which gives her a chance to escape into worlds vastly different to her own life in the burbs. While she quite enjoys killing her characters (especially the awful ones), she promises she’s far better behaved in real life.

Other than writing and reading, Heidi’s current obsessions include watching far too much reality TV with the excuse that it’s research for her books.

Jeremiah doesn't even know that he's special, when he is tricked into serving a tyrannical king. The only people that can help him are his brave sister, and a beautiful princess that is as much a prisoner as Jeremiah.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

The whole country is in ruin, with people starving and penniless; whilst their king has the power to grant wishes. The only problem is, the only wishes he grants are his own.
We follow Jeremiah, a young man who is tricked into serving in the King's army, in an attempt to save his family from starvation. Despite the torture and brainwashing that he undergoes, Jeremiah holds on to his identity, his good nature, and his hope for the future.

The narration is shared by other characters, including his sister Micah, and Princess Rose.
The Princess is the oldest daughter of the king. She has never been allowed outside, and even though she has some comfort, she's as much a prisoner as the whisperers. Rose is only alive to satisfy the whims of her father, his legal heir until a son can be born.
Rose knows when that happens, she has to save her sisters from being 'removed' from their right to the throne.

This story was very sweet, which feels odd to say, with all the brutal murder that goes on in it. It had the feeling of a Grimm fairytale, where the innocent princess and her white knight (reluctantly) embrace violence.
The poor whisperers, trapped in the castle and effectively good people, do what needs to be done. It reminded me of rats fighting in a trap.

The story felt very original, and I loved the whisperers, a grey army with the ability to make words come true, a dangerous and faceless force. Even in their own ranks, Jeremiah thinks he is the only one to hold onto his sanity, after the brutal training; so it is interesting to see their resilience shine through.

The way the story was built is unusual, with not only varying narrators, but switches between "Before" and "Then", before starting a countdown to the "Now".
It might sound confusing, but I thought it was cleverly done, and I quickly found it easy to follow.

The Whisperers of Evernow is a standalone story in its own right, but I'm looking forward to reading more books in this world Catherine has created.

Whisperers of Evernow is a classic story of good vs evil. It’s about a group of impoverished and powerless people who find a sense of community while they attempt to overthrow a powerful ruler. I hope some of the characters (like Micah and Gabrielle) will continue to be part of the storyline as the series moves forward. I’m curious to see what will happen to them in the future.

The set up for this book is quite spectacular - an intricate and details-rich world ruled by an evil King who has discovered he can assemble an army to whisper his darkest desires. However, while some may use this power for good, the King does not, and the people of the kingdom are suffering as a result. With little care of anyone but himself (including his daughters), we quickly see how too much power corrupts. We follow the story through multiple-perspectives - one of the whisperers in the King's army, the sister he left behind, the King himself, the Princess and others, which adds to the rich and detailed narrative of power, corruption, words, romance and betrayal. The characters are intriguing and strong, the world finely-drawn and the writing style is beautiful and lyrical, but there's still plenty of action, romance, adventure and political struggle to keep the pages turning. The book moves along at an enjoyable pace and could easily be enjoyed by a young adult market as well as anyone who loves high fantasy like Game of Thrones or the Narnia books.

OH MY GOSH, THIS BOOK! This is obviously my kind of book, and I knew that going in. What I didn't know was just how incredible The Whispers of Evernow was going to be. Heidi Catherine is very talented when it comes to creating an intricate and rich world. I could easily see the locations and the themes of power, corruption, romance, and betrayal were very obvious. With action, romance, adventure, and politics, The Whispers of Evernow is everything a fantasy lover wants in a novel!

The characters are very intriguing and well written. I could easily distinguish each character and I loved the multiple points of views. I felt like I knew each character (some, I wish I didn't know!), and I loved every minute of it.

I can't find anything negative to say about this novel. I am so looking forward to reading more from this author and continuing in this series. This is definitely going in my favorites of 2019!! Check this one out!

I was spellbound by this book. Heidi Catherine weaves a magnificent, folkloric tale full of difficult decisions and inner conflict as Micah and Jeremiah look for a way out of their appalling situation. I had to keep reading to find out how it would end. It's such an imaginative concept and I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

The Whisperers of Evernow is a captivating novel about a fantasy world where chanted words are an evil king’s powerful weapon. The despot uses an enslaved army called the Whisperers to rule over his kingdom. But standing in his way are a heroic brother and sister, and a brave princess who plan a clever uprising. Author Heidi Catherine skillfully weaves their stories into an original saga that makes for a compelling read. This book is the first in a series, and I look forward to reading them all.

For me Heidi is a very talented storyteller. She proved it in her Soulweaver Series which is when I discovered her writing and ability to create fantasy worlds with stories that pull you in from the very first page. The Whisperers of Evernow did not disappoint. It's a very original, well-structured story which I greatly enjoyed. There is magic, heartbreak, love and adventure. Well developed characters which come alive under Heidi's skilful narration and I can't wait to read the next in the series!

I’ve been thrilled by Heidi Catherine’s Soulweaver series of novels, so when I was offered an ARC of the first in her new Evernow series, I jumped at the chance to read it.

The Whisperers of Evernow did not disappoint. The protagonists are well-drawn and sympathetic, the antagonist is gloriously hateable, and the fantasy-based concept is amazingly believable. And all is told in the author’s beautiful prose.

I look forward very much to reading the other novels in the Evernow series.

OMG - what a fabulous fantasy story! It has it all - a fascinating premise (harnessing the power of the spoken word), memorable characters (love the multiple point of views), and a splash of romance (gets me every time). I loved The Whisperers so much that I had my 14 year old son read it, and now he's hooked too! Can't wait for more in this series :)

Absolute power corrupts absolutely in this fantastic new YA fantasy series by Heidi Catherine. The evil King abusing the power of other people's words to grant his selfish wishes is a fresh and unique premise. The characters of Jeremiah and Rose drew me right in and had me turning the pages to follow their forbidden friendship as they plotted to overturn their King. If the rest of the series is anything like book 1, we're in for a breathtaking ride. Recommended for readers of Sarah J Maas.

On the edge of your seat fantastical fiction!

What an imagination! I just loved getting lost inside this unputdownable first book in the author's brand new series. Here is a writer who has the wonderful ability to transport her readers to faraway lands full of characters who quickly become endearing - and one of two, downright hideous! I also loved the clever hints at law of attraction. A wonderful read.

I loved this book. It was much anticipated after the soul weaver series and did not disappoint. This book looks at the concept of the word being mightier than the sword and explores how this would look in the hands of an evil, selfish, hateful king. Heidi Catherine just keeps going from strength to strength, I can't wait for the next book in the evernow series.

I've never been huge on fantasy stories, but I was pleasantly surprised with The Whisperers of Evernow. Heidi Catherine does a fantastic job weaving the plot and characters in a way that makes you keep turning the pages. This book could easily be YA as well, which is even better in my option. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I was excited to read this book after finishing another Heidi Catherine story. The Whisperers of Evernow didn't disappoint. The tale is skilfully woven with characters you really root for. The concept of a miserly king who rules with fear who creates an army of whisperers to fulfill his craving for power and domination, really captivated my imagination and I could not put the book down.

There is love, sadness, true friendship and excitement in this book and I can't wait to read more from this author. The book cover is beautiful and the inside is even better.

I raced through this in one sitting and am actually feeling quite bereft now - thankfully there’s a second one due soon.
I love that the series consists of stand alone books that are interconnected but don’t leave you hanging at the end, it makes for a nice change to get a proper ending after just one book.
I’m not the biggest fantasy reader but I found this to be original and well-plotted and -paced, with a great cast of characters, fabulous writing and some very interesting world building - a highly enjoyable fantastical joy ride and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

It has been a pleasure to indulge in a new story by Heidi Catherine. The Whisperers Of Evernow is an amazing start to this new series. And as with the Soulweaver Series, Heidi has used her wonderful ability to weave strong, complex emotion into an intelligent, captivating story. I highly recommend this book.

A tyrant king harnesses the power of the spoken word for his selfish ends while his people go hungry. His army of Whisperers speaks his wishes into the universe and brings them to pass. Jeremiah is conscripted as a Whisperer, leaving his sister Micah and his parents behind. The promise of a better life is soon shown to be a lie, as Whisperers lose everything once in service to the king. They even lose the right to speak for themselves. They are to say nothing, except what the king wishes.

Rose, the king's eldest daughter, has been told by her mother for as long as she can remember to be ready to run. The king isn't interested in daughters, and once her mother has a son, Rose knows that the days of her and her sisters are numbered.

The Whisperers of Evernow is a story of good versus unspeakable evil, a wicked, selfish king, and a love that is willing to risk all to bring about change. Heidi Catherine does a wonderful job of building the world her characters inhabit and of drawing her characters so that they take on life. Micah, feisty and unwilling to take no for an answer, was my favorite. This was the first book of Heidi Catherine's that I've read, and I look forward to reading more.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed here are mine, and I don't say nice things about books I don't like.

A new twist to using Magic. Whispering or voice projection is the theme of this book. The author does a good job and kept my attention. One of the main characters not so much. Usually a nice guy in every story but this one just was too much.

While I liked the theme, it lacked something to make it really a great book.

I always get a bit worried when I read a book that I’ve really enjoyed by an author and then sit down to read another in case its not as good as the last one. Luckily in this instance, it has instead made me very sure that I can pick up a Heidi Catherine book and be transported into a clever and enjoyable story.

The concept of the book is fantastic and the world was built effortlessly, usually with a fantasy book I expect it to be quite slow to start because it takes some time to set the scene but with this book, the pace was quick and exciting from the start. We get to hear from quite a few different characters, mostly Jeremiah, Rose, and Micah, but there are also little bits from the King and Queen, that build this great picture of how the characters find themselves at the present moment.

Obviously, I was rooting for Jeremiah and Rose straight away, wanting them to break away from their oppression. I love how strong Rose is as a character, at first I thought she was just oblivious but then as the story moves along you realise how clued up she is. Micah’s rebelliousness was brilliant and that she put herself in danger to try and free her brother. I love that whilst there was the romance aspect between Jeremiah and Rose, there was also the sibling relationship between Jeremiah and Micah that got just as much attention.

I could really feel the suspense building throughout the book, you just never know what was going to happen next and as the stakes got higher for all the characters involved it really became edge of my seat reading. I really didn’t want it to end, at all.

I will definitely be looking out for more Heidi Catherine books in the future but definitely want to read the next book in this series, I feel like it could end up being a firm favourite.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It's a wonderfully crafted tale that draws the reader in with building momentum. Heidi has a brilliant imagination, creating a powerful storyline with intriguing concepts such as the ability to manifest. The main characters are strong and likeable and quite importantly, the conclusion is very satisfying! I can't wait to read Book 2 in the series!

This book reads like a dark fairytale about the power of words. About manifestation. About the importance of individuality. In this first of five highly original tales with a focus on the 5 senses both hearing and sight play a part. I'm curious to find out what will happen in the stories about the other kingdoms.

Great story about how good will win over bad and if you believe and work towards it things will turn out okay in the end. It is well written and the characters feel like real people.
