In this 80th installment of the exploits of bounty hunter Jess Williams, he takes on some of his most evil foes yet. Sid Norton is a tough one. The notorious killer ambushes Jess, wounds him and heads in to finish him off. Just then a young woman living in the woods with her son fires at Norton and he rides away.
The woman is named Mandy and her boy is Davey. Together they get Jess to their tent. Mandy cleans and stitches his wound and they wait for him to come around, hoping they’ve done enough to keep him alive. When Jess wakes up he’s grateful, of course, but also concerned about the two living alone in the woods. Although Mandy has spunk, the pair might not be as lucky the next time evil men arrive. He convinces them to go with him as he follows Norton’s trail to the next town. They find that Norton has continued his murderous ways, killing off the mayor and new town marshal of Deerfield, leaving the mayor’s wife to manage the general store they owned. Elsie, however, is in a wheelchair. Jess sets up Mandy and Davey to live with her and help run the store.
Jess is anxious to end Norton’s reign of terror before the killer takes the lives of any others, but Norton has already acted. After killing two more people in Temperance, Texas, one the barkeep, Norton holes up in the saloon in a battle to the death. Jess wins that battle and then heads to California, Texas, to turn in the body.
As soon as this task is finished a wagon arrives with a woman doctor clinging to life. She had earlier tended to Jess’s wounds, but after she treated one of the Coker brothers the ungrateful killer shot her and left her for dead.
As Jess heads off to seek vengeance on the Coker brothers, he comes across an old friend, but not under happy circumstances. John Booth has been chasing a bad guy but now he’s lying in the dirt barely alive. They head to the town of Mulberry to get him treatment and go after the Cokers.

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
One of the better Jess Williams westerns I've read lately. Jess runs into all kinds of trouble while hunting several different bounties. In the process he's shot several times, by several different outlaws. He also saves a fellow bounty hunter's life and changes the life of a woman who nurses him after being shot himself.
Well here we are again and we will jump ahead of the first encounter where find Jess Williams laying in the road with a bullet in his shoulder. A young girl and her son find Jess, after watching a crazy man named Norton ride up to Jess to finish him off. Mandy the young girl who was raped, her parents were both murdered gave birth to a young son as the result of the rape. No money, hunting for food, living in a tent in the woods five miles from the nearest town and with no help. She delivered her son by herself no help, she told Jess after applying medical care with the kit he carries, all she wanted was food for her and her son Davey. Of course Jess helps her and Davey find a place to live and earn a little money, more than she ever thought she would earn. He helps her and the wheelchair bound owner of the general store, whose husband was murdered by Norton for giving Ruse, a down on his luck cowboy aka owlhoot who takes the job as sheriff and he knows that Norton has a large bounty on his head, so kill two birds with one stone. Didn't work out so well Ruse was killed, to slow on the draw. So Jess persuaded Mandy to go to Mulberry and he would see what he could do to help her and her son Davey. Elsie the wheelchair bound owner will lose the store, because they owe a total of twelve hundred and fifty dollars and fifty cents to the bank, if that's paid she owns the general store free and clear. So we all know how Jess is with his money, he pays off the mortgage after Elsie said she would love to have Mandy and Davey live with her and help run the store, cook and clean..so that's what happened. Jess also told Elsie since she has no family to will the store to Mandy, so she'll have a home and source of income..Jess as we all know is a millionaire and he always helping someone..He has a good heart, but he takes no guff from anyone. He also knows there's a bullet waiting for him, but he doesn't dwell on that scenario...keep that cinch tight, your Arbuckle hot and ride easy Jess Williams with Gray and Sharps your trail partners.
RJT. has penned the. (JWWB. - 80) Western in the series. Wounded . Is the title of JW.'s. current work at ridding the West of the men who become killers , which range from the abnormal to the psychotic. This episode was a return to the JW. Of old. The side characters and how he interchanges with them are as important as the men killers he chases. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Chose this rating because I feel it is one of the best in the series. Even though I love the ones that Frank and the others are in, especially Shadow, this one was full of excitement. Jess never gets shot so to have him shot three of four times is unreal. Don't like seeing my Jess get hurt. Can't wait for the next book! 80 down and hopefully many more to go.
I started reading this book not realizing it was eighteenth in a series. I usually like to start at the first and progress with the author. I had also never read any of Mr. Thomas's stories. I really am sorry that I missed out on a master storytellers books all this time. The book starts out at a dead run and ends the same way. If you are a follower of Jess Williams western you will love this, if your not you will be when you are through reading this book.
I have read all eighty of this Jess Williams series and loved everyone. I don't know how Robert J. Thomas comes up with the stories but he sure is good at it. I can't wait until the next one comes out . All of his stories involve helping someone who is down on their luck or a victim of a crime.

Jess gets wounded a number of times from ambush but refused to give up the hunt. He just gets the holes patched up and keeps going. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading 1 - 80 and look forward to reading number 81. I highly recommend this author.
