Funnel cakes are delicious, but are they truly to die for?
When a woman turns up dead at the spring fair, Callie finds herself the sole name on the suspect list. Even though the case seems open and shut, Noelle knows she’s no murderer. With the evidence piling up and the fair coming to a close, it’s up to her to clear her friend and bring the real killer to justice.
While she’s searching for one killer, a menacing force lurks ever closer and gathers force to take out the Flynn girls and all they stand for. The problem is that Noelle has no idea they're coming, let alone a clue as to how to stop them before her family and life as she knows it is torn apart.
I was born and raised in the South and even hung my motorcycle helmet in Colorado for a few months. I've always had a touch of wanderlust and have never feared just packing up and going on new adventures, whether in real life or via the pages of a great book.
When I was a little girl, I didn't want to grow up to be a writer—I wanted to raise unicorns and be a superhero. When those gigs fell through, I chose the next best thing: creating my own magical lands filled with adventure, magic, humor, and romance.
I live in Florida with my two dogs and when I'm not writing or reading, I'm racing motorcycles with my taller, more handsome half, hanging out at the beach, or binge-watching anything magical on Netflix.
I'm eternally grateful for all the people who help make my life what is today - friends, readers, family. No woman is an island.

This series just keeps getting better!! It was great to see some things come to the end that they had been building to, but there are other things still unanswered, the moving jewellery box?what's with that? How will Noelle cope when Shelby goes? The one thing i will say this book fixated more on witchy things than the actual murder, but that's ok with me I'm glad to see that progress! I look forward to the next book with anticipation!!
Finally the pieces of the ongoing witch council saga come to a close, but it wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped. The final battle was considerably shorter than I'd expected and there really wasn't a doubt who'd win or that it would be tied up with a bow. I would have liked a lot more tension in the fight and the possibility that the wicked witches might just snatch the victory. The win would have been all the sweeter for more detail, but that part felt rather phoned in.
The main mystery was pretty good, but I pegged the murderer early on by pretending we were in Cabot Cove, if you catch my formulaic drift. There was a bit less mystery in the mystery this time, and that bores me. Still in all, not a bad one, but not great.
Oh, and numerous typos and inconsistencies in spellings of names, e.g. "Starlite" and "Starlight" both as the name of the diner, and only a few pages apart. These books really need a solid editor and proofreader.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I thought I wasn't into witchy tales, because Harry Potter didn't do anything for me but a lazy yawn. Then I read the first of Tegan's books "Sweet Murder" and I was hooked. I absolutely love all the chracters and their cowgirl/cowboy charm, especially Noelles, as well as the witty and often funny dialogues that arise, when the "living impaired" appear, the whole setup is just too good!
Then there is the mystery and suspense and all is so well worked out. I have read all the books of the serie up to this one and was distracted for a while, but now I will break my reading for the IHL challenge every once in a while with the next volumes. There has been not one of the books that disappointed and I greatly admire Tegan for the consistent high qulity of her work.
A couple of mysteries to solve in this book, the murder of a visiting murder during the town fair + someone’s watching the witches and it’s not with admiring eyes. Joelle and company are being stalked by some bad witches all while trying to solve a murder and clear their friend Camille. Shelby was a bit of a brat in this book, even understanding she was anxious about her acceptance letter. The pace was fast, the books are magical and endearing. A good one for the series.
I've enjoyed every book in this series, but this one is the best so far. The storyline is riveting. There are two mysteries going on at the same time. One is mortal and the other is magical. All the characters I have grown attached to are part of the story, although I would love to have Max get a bigger role. This is simply a great book and a great series.
Even with the big battle - which was barely a few pages about was a disappointment. Not that I was even into it. If anything, it was kind of annoying but after having it in the background for so many book for it to be over in a few pages was a let down. I, also, found a few plot issues. 1. The name of Shelby's horse. In this book it was Ranger but Ranger is the name of the horse than ran away & they ended up letting the older couple keep. They didn't have 2 Rangers. 2. The Leticia witch was stated to have been cremated to ensure that she would never come back but they said they dug up her remains to make sure it was her && Shelby wasn't sure if it was magic or science that helped them figure it out. Well, if she was cremated & ash how could they unearth her & test the ashes in a scientific way because the chances of getting dna from cremated remains are slim.If it was magic - why even mention it. We would assume it was magic. An earlier book I had noticed the Anna Mae arrived twice a bar but let it go cause it's a slip up in names & with the ever growing fast of characters I was like it's bound to happen but this book had too many things that just didn't make sense. Don't get me wrong, I liked it & it's a good read. It just wasn't as good as the others & had some issues. Maybe if I wasn't binge reading them I would have noticed but I've read all of them & the substories in the matter of a few days. It's a great series &has great characters. It doesn't need the extra stuff like being attacked by anger evil witches to prove how powerful they are. We get it. It's like the club's are the The Charmed Ones. We've seen what they can do already. Stick to the good stuff that happens in the town & surrounding areas. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series & hoping it's better.
I enjoyed reading this book and series. This book and series is entertaining and enjoyable.I recommend this book and series to all my friends and family members. Happy Reading!
This series just keeps getting better. Noelle was always a strong woman but to see her & her magic growing is at once satisfying & anticipatory. Shelby will be finishing high school so what's in her future? But there's a witch battle brewing particularly with an unknown witch with a hatred of the Flynns. Camille can't find them but this witch has invaded Nicole's dreams threatening total annihilation Oh there's also a murder in the mundane world. An Atlanta group of high-powered attorneys has come to a conference at Keyhole Lake. The County Fair & Carnival is also happening. While eating funnel cakes & walking around, Nola & Evalina Rowan, part of the family firm of Rowan, Rowan, Rowan & Wade, Nola collapses & dies. Sheriff Hunter is on the scene & an ambulance are on the way. Noelle comforts the daughter, Evalina, getting her to the town's best BBQ place, Bobbie Sue's. Seems Nola has gone back to work at the family firm & ruffled the feathers of Rosalind whose husband is an attorney in the firm who lost a 20 million dollar client to Nola. Plus money has been missing from some accounts.Beatrice, the nice one, has been trying to comfort Evalina. Is Callie, maker of Funnel cakes and a local gal, the killer? Hunter & Noelle don't believe it. All the post living community in Keyhole are helping out. Even Max, surly talking donkey, is keeping an eye out for the family farmhouse. Each story is a standalone story but once you read one, you'll want the rest of the series to read as well as the short stories of Keyhole lake. Which looks to the in to the next Cori Sloane series. Much like Southern Fried anything, you'll keep coming back for more.
The interactions among Noelle's extended family and the denizens of Keyhole Lake are, as always, wonderful.
This book comes to a conclusion (or at least completion of one arc) to the latest witch war story. The fate of Noelle's missing father is still up in the air.
My problem (which downgraded my score of the book) is the mystery. It really was terrible as a murder mystery. I get that Tegan Maher is not Agatha Christie. Fine. But this was downright sloppy. I will complain in detail inside a spoiler.
A great read that has two mysteries running alongside each other. One is of the normal human kind (a death at the Spring fair) and the other is of the witchy kind (someone has been killing witches and now they have come after her and her family). The characters have grown into their powers but Shelby sets my teeth on edge. She not a child and her ignoring the warnings really gets my goat. The spring fair has arrived and everything is going well until a woman drops dead. The only thing she had eaten was a funnel cake made by her friend. Now her friend is suspect number one although the entourage with the dead woman had her shackles up. All seemed to like and miss the woman (although her daughter is clearly heartbroken) but her BS meter is going wild. Then there is the fact that she and some of the others have started to get the feeling that they are being watched. Plus the dream attacks on her are getting worse. Can she find the human culprit? Was it love, money or hate that was behind the murder? Will she be able to find the witch that is stalking her in her dreams before any family members are hurt? Is she part of the group that has been behind the murders of the witches?
There is at least a close to one of the main "discussion" arcs that have been going on for a number of books. The closure is relatively anti-climatic though. Half of it even occurred off-script with only brief comments as Addy popped back and forth with updates. That was a bit disappointing. The actual "battle" was almost there. It might have been 2 pages and was won in a way that was sort of "What....?" The murder investigation seemed off. I felt like I missed something and it wasn't really solved. The murderer confesses without being charged. Shelby was back to almost brat status. It seemed at a few points that her "telekinesis" powers weren't working. It was played off as her ignoring them, but that seemed shaky at best. There were a couple continuity/editing issues. Nothing that really impacted the storyline but they were noticed. For all the challenges they have with new (and even old) powers, you'd think they would at least practice or study/research occasionally. I will read book 10.
Another of Noelle's friends is suspected of murder.
The fairs in town and Noelle's friend is running a funnel cake stall, when one of her customers drops dead poisoned she ends up a.suspect.when it's revealed.the only thing in the deceased stomach is.funnel.cake. Noelle knows her friend is innocent the trouble is it's hard.to.find another person with motive who also had opportunity so things are not looking good. To add.to the.problems the witches that have been rampaging through the country look to be targeting the Flynn witches finally so Noelle and the rest of.her.family are in the defensive knowing an attack is coming but not from where. These women are playing for keeps, they won't be happy till Noelles.whole family is dead. Not going to happen whatever it takes to.survive the Flynns will do.
When an out-of-town guest at the town fair is poisoned, Noelle wants to investigate, but she's going to have to leave the heavy lifting to Hunter on this one. There's something wicked coming for the Flynn family that threatens their very existence and it's all hands on deck. The author does a great job of juggling two mysteries in this book while keeping your interest in both. The story flowed well, the characters that I have come to know and love are all there, along with the wonderful sense of family and small community that keeps me coming back for more in this series. And the author is seriously funny - "that boy's cornbread ain't baked all the way through" - ha! Good job on this one and looking forward to the next one!
There's a fair in town and everyone is set to have a good time. Unfortunately a woman dies and Noelle is there to comfort her grown daughter. The dead woman and her frenemies are city folks making the big bucks. When the autopsy shows that she was murdered, a good friend ends up as the only suspect. Noelle and Hunter are working hard to find the real murderer. In the meantime, Noelle is having weird dreams again and witchcraft abounds. I love these books. It's like coming home and catching up with old friends. There's always something going on and most likely someone who needs their rear end kicked. Noelle, her family and friends are just the ones to do that in the best way possible. Great characters and an awesome plot makes this a fantastic paranormal cozy!
First, had to read all these books to see improvement in the main characters. Usually what I've read in some so far is they never learn anything if possible become more stupid and careless. Not saying Noelle didn't become better perse but she did become careless, case in point the threat made about the things she loves where not just her sister and aunt, it could of included extended members added by friendships and boyfriends. Perfection spells should have included those individuals without means of powers of there own. So reading was fun, funny, exciting, wondrous and enjoyable. I just hope it doesn't end here like most authors tend to do, there is still so much for Noelle to do and more growth for her as a person to achieve. Looking forward to reading more.😇
There is nothing like going to a fair and enjoying the food and festivities! But there is always a something going on in Keyhole Lake, and we finally got to see what happens when you mess with the best!!
This installment definitely gave you the most out of all the books so far by far!! We not only got a murder mystery but also a whole lot more!
This murder was harder to solve but definitely gave you a bang for your buck! It was a taste of the rich a famous in Keyhole. I enjoyed how they were involved but not so much how they did a few other things.
But they didn't even come close to the grand finale of the book! I definitely have it so patiently been waiting for this and it didn't disappoint!
I can't wait for the next book and to see what else happens in Keyhole Lake!!!
A great series of the great cast of characters. A witchy cozy mystery/urban fantasy series based in a small southern Georgia town. Which is ghosts and on occasion other supernaturals live together with humans in a small town with a mild tourist population on occasion. Follow along as they solve mysteries murders and made him. A very entertaining and very southern oriented Series check it out
When the fair comes to town, so does murder.... One of Noe's friends is blamed for the murder, but everyone knows she is innocent but the evidence points to her. Meanwhile the evil mounting an attack against the good witches of Keyhole Lake moves in for the attack.... If you like paranormal, strong family, snarky and quirky characters this read is for you! In 10 days, I binge read all nine books plus the 3 short stories in the series. It is a fun, fast read and hope to read more by Tegan Maher!
I always look forward to new installments and was not disappointed. The.characters are well defined and the conversations flow naturally. The plot advances quickly with more than one storyline being addressed. I already have my calendar marked for the next installment!
Noelle and her gang of family and friends are a delight to read about and I enjoy every book. The characters are ones you can identify with, even though they are witches! I love the southern world they live in, the ghosts are a great part of the humorous side and I love this series!
It's carnival day in Keyhole Lake and everyone is out to enjoy themselves even Noelle and Hunter, when a lady unexpectedly drops dead in front of them, when a friend is implicated Noelle decides to help but in the background is that feeling of being watched and the knowledge that trouble is getting closer.
The mystery is well written. I kind of suspected the correct person but I had no idea about the motive. There's a twist to it. The Flynn witches have to fight for their lives. I just have to say that I hope one day Max does something very nobel and selfless so he can get free of the curse.
Something's not right in Keyhole Lake. Noelle is having horrible nightmare s about being under magical attack. The fair and carnival are going great, until a tourist is murdered, but Noelle knows there is something else going on. Great characters and plot, with plenty of action and twists.
I love these characters and the great stories. They have the witchy goings on and the real world to deal with. They show that real family doesn’t have to be all a family can be. Catch the series, you can’t find a more interesting read..
I love the fact that these family and friends are so close. Even apart they think of each other. Plus being witches makes for great entertaining reading. I continue reading the next book to see how the Flynn family and their friends handle all the trouble and murder that comes their way.
I enjoyed this latest book in the Keyhole Lake series. There is often more than one storyline happening during each book and it’s fun to watch as each is resolved. It’s nice seeing the community and love between everyone in town. I’m glad that the bad witches were vanquished and am hoping we find out what happened to the father next.
The story starts are the county fair with a murder that seems to point solely to one person. But with Noelle, Hunter and the rest of the gang, things start happening that weren't expected. The story builds towards the end and I loved that it was fast pasted and had a lot going on.
It was a really good read, A lot of up and down then the fight, well played of ice the murder took a great deal of figuring but I thought it had something to do with headache too.
I always loving settling in and reading a good book. Reading this series makes me feel like I’ve come home to my good friends and am having another adventure. Love it!
