Brides with Grit #12

Amy Admires an Amish Man

Rate this book
Can past hurts be forgiven to open the path to a new future for the two, or will it block their chance of happiness together?

Rancher’s daughter Amy Sanders escapes her job in a saloon by pretending to be her younger brother Amos and signs on to take care of a rail car load of bulls heading to Kansas. Once the bulls are delivered to the Bar E Ranch, she’ll find a way to survive, even if it means working as a ranch hand.

Eli Fisher, the foreman at the Bar E Ranch, left his Amish community in Pennsylvania after his betrothed ran off with another man. Although he misses his family and home state, he’s adapted to the Kansas prairie and admires the wonderful couple he works for. Now settled, he longs for a woman to share his life and start their own family.

Amy’s and Eli’s upbringing and pasts clash in more ways than one, but once it’s revealed that “Amos” is actually “Amy,” sparks of a different kind ignite.

Can past hurts be forgiven to open the path to a new future for the two, or will it block their chance of happiness together?

Amy Admires an Amish Man is a stand-alone sweet historical romance set in 1874, but you'll want to read the whole series to enjoy the stories of the Clear Creek, Kansas community.

FATE HAS BROUGHT THEM FINALLY HOME

I have enjoyed each story in the Brides with Grit series which can be read as a stand-alone but if you have read other books in the series will have characters from previous books. The stories have people who aren’t perfect, have had heartache and difficulties, but with the right people in their life, triumph over tragedy.

Amy Sanders was sold to the local brothel by her father to pay for his liquor bill when he catches one of his ranch hands kissing her. While she isn’t a saloon girl working upstairs, she still is treated with disdain by locals as if she were. When a rare opportunity to escape dressing as a boy and pretending to be her brother, Amos, came along—she will take it and leave Texas and ride in a cattle car with six bulls heading for the Bar E Ranch owned by Cora and Dagmer Hamner.

Eli Fischer has left his Amish faith and family in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and after working on a ranch for an Englisher, he travels with cattle to Kansas and decides to make it his home. Now he is the foreman on the Bar E Ranch. He and Zach will meet the train to take possession of the bulls and in the process offer Amos a job working at the Bar E.

The plot will have Amy traveling with bulls from Texas to Kansas for Mr. Ferguson and escaping the terrible life and situation she is in. What a shock when Eli learns that Amos is not a boy, but a young woman named Amy—and just in time to help Cora who is in labor. What a blessing one letter from Kansas for a kind deed during the train wreck in Texas. Was it fate that everything falls into place to help Amy escape her existence and find happiness in Kansas?

“My past is my past, and I’m free to do what I want.”

Amy and Eli have great chemistry together, and yet he is still bitter about how Rebecca walked out on him on the day of their wedding. Will he learn to trust Amy? Amy is confused by the hot-cold messages she gets with Eli—especially after she receives startling news from her family in Texas. She is torn between what her heart wants and what she needs to do for her family and to find closure. Is this goodbye for Eli and Amy?

“He had to think positively and plan for their future. Eli thought his future was in Pennsylvania with Rebecca, but there had to be a reason he—and Amy—came to Kansas with livestock. Their meeting in the little prairie town of Clear Creek was fate.”

The story is a clean historical western that is a romance, with a great cast of characters, plenty of angst, and several stories playing out that all intertwine. With heartache from the past, life isn’t always picture perfect, and it takes strong people to look past injustice and rise above it.

Amy Sanders grew up in an abusive home. Her father was terrifying and sold her to a saloon to pay his bar tab. Escaping from that life was her dream. She accomplishes it by agreeing to have her brother take care of several bulls heading from Texas to Kansas. Fully knowing she will be taking her brothers place.
Eli Fisher grew up in an Amish family, and when he chose to work for an Englisher after being left at the alter by his bride before the vows were finalized. He came to Kansas and became forman on the exact ranch Amy arrives at dressed as a boy. Once Amos becomes Amy again, things change between them and they realize they have a few hurdles to jump before they can become a couple.
Tragedy in her family will threaten to tear them apart. A little anger on Eli's side also threatens their HEA. Will they be able to solve their differences and become what they both desire?
This book is a fitting end to the Brides with Grit Series and joins the Grooms With Honor Series as two outstanding groups of books... You will find it hard to put them down once you begin. I know I did!

I love Linda Hubalek. Her novels are honest, clean, and filled with family and love. I never have to worry about reading graphic sensual details or words that I wouldn't say to my grandmother's face when I read her books.

Amy Admires an Amish Man allows us to see what happened to Amy after she helped save Time's baby in Tina Tracks a Trail Boss. She travels to Kansas and meets Eli, a man who was raised Amish, but left the faith after his fiancee leaves him for another man. They face their past and grab hold of their future with the help of other residents of Clear Creek Kansas.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romance that builds the love, not the lust. I read it on a rainy afternoon because it is fairly short and it took away the gloom of the day. It is a quick read and definitely worth your time.

This was an enjoyable book. It was good to become reacquainted with our friends in Clear Creek that we’ve gotten to know through the Grooms with Honor and Brides with Grit series. Eli and Amy were interesting characters and you found yourself pulling for them to get their happily ever after. I am sad to see the two series end. Thank you, Linda Hubalek for these stories and heroes and heroines.

Eli and Amy

Eli was a ranch foreman and Any was the cleaner and cook in a saloon. She ran away from her saloon job to the ranch Eli worked. They would find love after several trials and tribulations and the hope of a happily everafter. I loved the two series about the Grooms with Honor and Brides with Grit. These are two absolutely wonderful and fun series. I hope if you get the chance to read both of them you will. You will have lots of hours of enjoyment and fun. READ THEM!

Excellent Story!

Once again Kinda Hubalek has given readers a wonderful story with great characters. It was so nice to read about the continuing lives of characters, that seem like old friends, from previous books in the series. Hope there will be more stories about these people!
