The storyline was okay, and i really liked Wanwiwa's character, but the translation was pretty awful and many things in the plot didn't make sense. I am loving the series though! I am hoping they will do a better job.

4 stars. What in the Tubi Original hell was this? And why was it so addictive? I must say this official translation was rough. Not very good at all but I got the gist of it just fine. This was a lot, Pleng and Wan weren’t really that good for each other honestly but it worked if that makes any sense. Wan was down bad over Pleng and Pleng was the worst to her. And then there’s a 13 year time jump after Pleng leaves with no warning. Wan is now on the brink of divorce with her husband and is a successful doctor, Pleng is struggling a bit. They immediately start up a romance and omg that ex husband…what a fucking mess. And then there was an incest plot line for a few pages and I was just sitting here confused as hell but holding on tight for the ride cause what the actual fuck? That was certainly a choice. I can say that this was NEVER boring that’s for sure.

let’s preface this by saying I did enjoy most of this book and love wan viva lol HOWEVER the (mind you OFFICIAL) english translation is absolutely horrendous like at least invest in like grammarly or something 😭😭 like some sentences weren’t even remotely grammatically correct…
now for the worst part:
why the fuck did we have to go with the storyline of them potentially being SISTERS after they had sex like what was the point???? like yeah it didn’t end up being true but like…????
i don’t know if there’s like cultural nuance to this or if it got lost in translation bc this is not the first time i’ve seen this in a thai book. like even when talking abt neung’s sexual awakening they had to make it a point that she fucked wan because she looks like (sam) HER SISTER.
it just weirds me out sm

I watched the live-action adaptation first, and it was absolutely amazing. It wasn't perfect by any means and still had me scratching my head, but it was enough where I would read a whole book. (I never read) It was very easy to read and to follow along. Although the English translation needed a lot of work, it was still legible.

To start off, it's a really sad book when you think about how long Wan Viva ached for Pleng and Pleng was like "bet". I was maddened at Pleng for being a literal rat to Wan Viva, who would give everything and anything to her in an instant.

To be fair, Pleng did grow up getting everything she wanted in a blink of an eye, and she has changed a lot due to how terrible the world is when you're poor. But it didn't stop me from wanting to rip the literal head off of her for most of the book.

I'll say this quick but, the whole are-they-sisters did not do it for me. Especially when Wan Viva said Nueng did it with her because she reminded her of her own sister. Which made me raise my eyebrow to the roof, the author kinda sus.

I've seen this trope done before and it's super unnecessary and they just added it in there just because they wanted the story to end with a bang. Their revelation at the end could have been found through other non-cliche means. And don't get me started on Eak. Bro's entire character was just a big fat inconvenience. And everyone at the end being okay with their relationship. Not everything has to be sunshine and rainbows and it's okay that others won't accept you. That's a part of life.

The book itself, I thoroughly enjoyed most of it. The book delves deeper into their relationship and thoughts and the series adds more nuance but doesn't properly explain everything the book has.

Although I have many qualms, but I love this book/series with all my heart because I know that Thai GLs are heading in a good direction.

DIOS SANTO WAN, quiero tu paciencia.

Read it before the series aired and apart from the unnecessary incest scare, it was really good, the yearning was fop notch!

The Affair is a compelling girl’s love (GL) Thai novel that explores the complex relationship between two women, Wan and Pleng. The main protagonists were inseparable and secretly love each other as teenagers. However, tragedy strikes their families and separation was imminent. Over a decade later, fate brought them together again to rekindle their long lost love.

From there, the story unfolds with rich, introspective prose that delves into the bittersweetness of an unfulfilled first love and the weight of unspoken emotions that only grew heavier with time despite their long separation. Unbeknownst to Pleng, Wan’s love for Pleng becoming an all-encompassing obsession that influences every aspect of Wan’s life. Distance and time did not diminish their affection for each other, especially Wan who is deeply in love with her best friend for many years. Meanwhile, Pleng struggles with her own feelings, caught between her affection and the fear of becoming a mistress to Wan.

The tension gradually builds between Wan and Pleng, revealing the emotional turbulence of their relationship, from tender happy moments to the more tumultuous confrontations when a huge secret was revealed that could break them apart permanently. The author, Chao Planoy, masterfully portrays how love can be both beautiful and destructive, highlighting the fine line between affection and obsession. A journey of an emotional roller coaster for these two characters similar to many of the author’s other novels.

This is a must-read for GL fan looking for a story that captures the raw emotions of two women intertwined by love and the past they can't escape.

Rating: 4 out of 5. A point deducted due to the simplistic translation riddled with errors. However, despite the misspellings, it shouldn’t prevent readers from enjoying the novel. The English version is available in MEB. The TV Series with English subtitles is available in YouTube under Change2561. So far, this tv series is my favorite GL adaptation so far with the way it’s acted by the main lead actors and directed.
