This book had a great premise and brought many underlying relationship issues to light. Malcolm’s and Whitney’s story is one that is too relevant in the black community but not often discussed.

You see problems such as lack of communication, not fully accepting your partner’s growth or feelings, dishonesty, and selfishness. Also, Malcom displayed passive-aggressive behavior. Although Whitney's behavior wasn’t completely fair, because she kept the secret, it was refreshing to see that she held her ground with Malcolm.

For a first time novel, this was a decent story. There is definitely room for growth, though. The structure of the story and the writing style made it difficult to follow what was going on at times. Also, there were parts of the conflict that could have been addressed a bit better.

Ma'am if nobody has told you let me tell you: YOU. DID. THAT!.

I felt Whit & Malcolm SOOOOO MUCH!
I understood where they both were coming from, but bayyyybeeeeeeeeee they were both wrong lol

Mal was childish and so set it in his AND STUBBORN! Man I wanted to wring his neck or grab him by the shoulders AND shake him.

Whit you my girl AND all, but no ma'am I do NOT condone your behavior either! Like you don't do that kind of thing and just not say NOTHIN?!

I loved their interaction with one another and MJ. That lil boy was a mess.

Mal & Whit taught me that even though you can be with someone 10+ years you still have to take the time to get to know the person they are now. Yea the person you fell in love with was cool (obviously), but people change (like his dad said) and you have to get to know them again.

I am happy with the ending!
P.S. SHOUT OUT TO ****** FOR TALKIN SENSE INTO ******* !

Justin & LeeLee: They were sooooo cute! It's always the one's you least expect that give you ALLLL the feels lol Justin gave LeeLee exactly what she wanted after he got her to listen lol

HONESTLY An Awesome Book

This book gave me all the emotions humanly possible. Such a smart book for human feelings and relationships. Family relationships and friend relationships etc..I actually cried as both characters struggled to find themselves and keep their bond and love alive.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed this novel immensely. Whitney and Malcolm clearly loved each other but as she pursued her music career in secret while he was deployed, she changed. Malcolm was finally home for a long stretch of time and blasted with his wife’s music success and the changes she made. He was stubborn and distant then she was stubborn and distant. It would take a grand gesture to end the stalemate and Malcolm didn’t disappoint. Great read!

I really enjoyed this story and found myself going back and forth on whose side I was taking. I think this story was so good because it feels real. This scenario could and probably has happened in real life before and I for one like reading realistic stories. I like that it shows that marriage and families are not all just cupcakes and sprinkles. I would like to know more about the Phillips family though. This book seemed to only go in depth on Malcolm and Whitney which makes sense but I hope there will be more to come.

What a story!

This was a really good debut novel from the author. Whitney and Malcolm definitely had some challenges to work through. It took a while for Malcolm to come around but he did in the end. I gave four stars because of the grammatical errors. However, I’m sure the author won’t have this issue in her upcoming novels. Great job! Looking forward to the next installment of this series. ❤️

Great read

I have anxiously awaited this story and I’m so glad to have read it. It has equal parts romance and comedy. The flow of the story line kept me engaged. I enjoyed the process of watching Malcom and Whitney’s love story progress. The only downside I can find is the many grammatical errors. Often made it hard to read. Great book otherwise

I loved this story so much! Malcolm and Whitney were everything and more. I’m glad they fought through everything! The only thing about this book that made me take a star away was the large amount of typos and missing quotations. Please make sure you have someone read over your book, because there were places where I had to figure out if it was he/she/him which was a little annoying. However, the content and the flow of the book was perfect! I can’t wait until the next book comes out!

Well written, easy to follow and will certainly get you in the mood for love! The characters are real people that you can picture, with real relationships that you understand. Choosing a favorite is futile, as you'll quickly fall in love with the favors and faults of them all. Looking forward to reading more from Honesty.

Pretty good read this author has a very vivid imagination and had me laughing at times and angry at others. Liked the serious tone of the book.
There were minor errors through the book, but nothing to take away from the story.

Bookstagram came through when Back to Us by Honesty Price was recommended to me. I had started noticing it in posts and stories; so I was already curious about this author's debut book that was getting such rave reviews! I went ahead and took the plunge and got the book and I was excited from the first page.

When I started the book, I figured I'd read a couple of chapters and go to bed (it was late). Next thing I knew, I was halfway through the book and trying to force my eyes to stay open long enough to see what was going to happen next. I couldn't stop reading Prices' book once I started! The characters stole my heart and all of a sudden I was deciding if I was team Whitney or team Malcolm. I couldn't wait to see where the story would take them. The more I read, the more invested I became with the two main characters – their fears and frustrations, their sorrows and joys, their missteps and misunderstandings. Yea your girl was all in.

Whitney had been keeping a huge secret from her husband Malcolm. Which wasn’t hard to do since he was always away. Well, this time Malcolm was home to stay and Whitney had to figure out how to tell him what she had been up to. I love how she took care of things while her husband was away and kept it sexy for him when he came back home. But she also sacrificed a lot to ensure that his dreams were coming true. As women, we tend to put our goals to the side to make sure our husband and/or children are taken care of. Well, Whitney said NOT ANY MORE. When she told Malcolm her secret all hell broke loose.

Malcolm had been making plans for his career and his family for years. So, when Whitney hit him with her news he was blown away. He wasn't expecting the changes that his wife was going through. To me, he started behaving like an ass. Not the supportive spouse that he had been demanding from her all those years. But trust he got himself together and when you read this book (trust me you will want too) you will find out why. Although his career was heading in the right direction his marriage was not. It was extremely hard for him to comprehend what the problem was.

The supporting characters were not used as fillers to make the book longer. They brought needed substance to help carry the story-line. Back to Us is sprinkled with some comedic relief throughout especially from Sean; Malcolm's younger brother. I enjoyed how I could relate to Whitney; how you can sacrifice your dreams and passions for your family. I also related to Malcolm (side-eye) how he was being forced into a situation without any warning and how that could feel like a betrayal. I am so impressed with Honesty’s debut novel and cannot wait to read more by her. She is an author to keep your eye out for!

Back To Us…Back To Love

“We got lost
Lines got crossed
And the light turned to static babe
And then I jumped ship
Got caught up in the current and it carried both of us away
We were so much better
When we were together baby
And I just can’t let you slip away”
- Finding My Way Back - Jaheim

There's nothing more exhausting than arguing with a person who wants to prove they are right. For Malcolm and Whitney could the right to be right destroy all they’ve built or will they be able to solve their issues and find their way back to each other and the love they share?

This was my first Honesty Price book and I am now invested in her catalog. I have been where Malcolm and Whitney were. When I’m right and he’s right but we’re too stubborn to call it a draw and move on. This was a great introduction to the Phillips family. This is a great cozy weekend read. can’t wait to read the entire series.

I absolutely LOVE Honesty Price. She had me on an emotional roller coaster with this one ☝🏽 It got to the point where I didn’t know who I felt like was more wrong out of Malcolm and Whitney. Don’t get me wrong they were both dead ass wrong at one point or another but halfway through the novel I found myself literally praying for their reconciliation. You could see the love was there they were just both being so stubborn. At the same time I feel like they both needed to realize they’re not those same kids from college anymore. People change and if you love someone you’re willing to adapt and compromise. Sean was one of my favorite characters! I was actually upset Malcolm was being so mean to him in the beginning LOL There’s soooo much more I can say but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t read it yet😩 I definitely recommend this book!

All I Need

Wow! This book was so good! What an emotional rollercoaster, but so worth the ride.

I was a little leery seeing something about the story being told in flashbacks, but the author did an amazing job. I read it straight through because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

Whit not being forthcoming was not cool, but we all saw why she did it. Even Mal's family supported her because they all knew how he would react. And man did he react, and badly. I'm so glad the author showed Malcolm's good, bad, and ugly parts, but then growth, humility, and redemption.

Such a realistic and sexy love story. I'm new to Ms. Price's books, having only read a couple of shorts. I definitely recommend this one and will be checking out more myself.

Back to Us

The story was beautiful, the characters were so realistic. I love both Malcolm and Whitney, I was on #teammalandwhit I could see both their point of views however I was on the side of their marriage! Sean was hilarious 😂 little brother was dropping gems! I love that their families never chose sides or treated Whitney different because of the separation, they were truly her family too. Malcolm and Whitley were also amazing parents despite what they were going through in their marriage. I would definitely recommend this novel! I can’t wait to read the next Phillips Family novel!

This was a good story, especially for ppl who have been/are in long-term relationships where you individually grow, but not necessarily in concert with the relationship.

The author did a good job of showing both perspectives (Malcolm and Whitney's) with present day and recent flashbacks. (I also liked the side story of LeeLee and Justin.)

I think the next installment of the Phillips family is about Malcolm's parents, but it would be nice to get one about Sean or Richard in the future.

P.S. This ebook was shared as a free download on Honesty Price's website: https://www.writehonesty.com/. Very nice of the author!

I loved the way this was written past and present his and her perspective. Both of their thoughts and feels expressed very clearly.

Slightly annoyed that no family member or friend could understand why Malcom was hurt being that his wife and as a result entire family had kept something from him that had already been spoken about and seemingly agreed upon between the couple.

Whitney claimed she was nervous to tell him but after she couldn’t care less about his feelings. He’d been away working for what he felt was a shared goal of supporting his family all the while his wife out here like another person.

Seemingly a bit unbalanced but alls fair in love and war I guess.

I loved this book!!! Although I may have an unpopular opinion because I am team Malcom all the way.

*** SPOILERS ***

How are you going to lie for years and have his family helping you lie. If you have a problem in your relationship you need to speak up, it is your responsibility to do so. No one is a mind reader and if you don't say something then you really can't expect things to change. I think Malcom had every right to be upset and Whitney and his family members owed Malcom a HUGE apology. Looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

Great Story

I enjoyed reading Malcolm and Whitney’s story! Malcolm went from thinking everything was about him to realizing he was wrong for thinking this way. Malcolm went through heck trying to get his wife back but he never gave up! He could have easily done so. Though Whitney was wrong with how she went about it, I’m glad she went after her dreams! I’m glad Malcolm and Whitney were able to work things out. They were cute together! I look forward to reading more books by Honesty Price!

Interesting story

I heard this book (series) being discussed on Black Girl Podcast and I turned it off immediately so I could download the book. I'm glad I did. Malcolm and Whitney had a true life romance, complete with its ups and downs. Can't wait to get to book 2.

A good read

I was so hoping Whitney and Malcolm got it together and they did! I think Malcolm learned he had to accept things couldn't always be his way and Whitney had to learn to forgive. I enjoyed their story. Some extra words in sentences but overall a good storyline!
