When Will accidentally creates a mysterious portal during a trip to the zoo, he's transported into the world of the Night Zoo, and thrust into an incredible adventure. Joined by his friends, Sam and Riya, Will journeys through a new portal and arrives within the high walls of Igloo City. It is a strange place where the animals follow strict rules put in place by their leader, Circles the owl. Circles is determined to stamp out any rule breakers and wants Will to track down a group of rebels, but is it the right thing to do? The safety of Igloo City depends on Will choosing the right side - will he follow Circles' orders, or break free from her rules and join the rebels?
Book #3 in the Night Zookeeper series gives some good backstory on the writing app for kids.
This was another book the kiddo kept asking for the next chapter, so I know the kids are OK with it.
The story details are kept a smidge light here, and we still don't have a full picture of Nulth or what the Voids want, but the characters don't really seem bothered by that. Beyond that, it's got some good lessons on not judging a book by its cover and character growth from the leads. Not enough time was spent on developing the characters in each locale to talk about why/what/who they are - everybody just sort of gives deference to the Night Zookeeper because of the title despite the fact that Will doesn't seem to know what he's doing and is, in some cases, working contrary to their goals. The folks who should be annoyed by this (the other two main characters in Riya and Sam) aren't - and where there should be a growing sense of confrontation, there's not. So in your head you're playing out some "would they really act that way?" weirdness as you're reading.
Ultimately, it's not a dealbreaker and the story holds up nicely to the other books in the series.
“Night Zookeeper: The Penguins of Igloo City” is a well written children’s chapter book by Joshua Davidson. Will, the Night Zookeeper and his friend, Riya who is brave and impulsive are on an adventure to Igloo City. They are joined by Sam, a great giraffe detective that can turn invisible. Sam has great jokes too. The three must work together to figure out if Circles or Eek are in control and doing what’s best for all penguins. This is a great adventure. I truly enjoy talking animals. I highly recommend this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is probably my favorite book in the night zoo keeper series. This is the third book in the night zoo keeper series. My favorite character in this book is professor penguin.
