Calypso:
"You destroyed our world... We are nothing now! Nothing but the old leather-bound classics that tell us who we WERE. So dominant, so advanced... You think you know love: Chemicals that explain your PERFECT science. Endorphins... none of it real: Animalistic.

Once a registered Nurse in California I became depressed and rebellious and now find myself living in the beautiful University City of Columbia, MO. writing. I love it.
No more blood and guts.
Well... not the real kind, but damn how my work reflects the realism.

Mmm, sexual violence, necrophilia... zombies. I was taught that you can be anything you want, but never be boring. I've been accused of a lot of things, but not that. Except by my ex, he did leave that one star saying how boring my book was... hahahahaha. Get over it bro.

Otherworldly ARC for Honest Review.
I was really looking forward to this book and was glad I got a copy of it.
Book Rating: 2/5
Heat Rating: 2/5
Romance Rating: 0/5
Dark Rating: 1/5

I have to say it took a while to completely understand what was going on, a few chapters in, I was still a little flustered and had to get used to the way the Author writes.
But even then even at 60, 70, 80.. percent I was still a bit confused in areas.

I know the main male and female, were inspired by Khal Drogo & Daenerys from GoT.
While reading; where the girl is in the book, I kinda compared it to The Village by M. Night Shyamalan.
It has a Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian twist to it also.

There is a barrier around the village to protect the humans from being seen by the ‘creatures or Koridons’ (but it’s the aliens technology, so that confused me) that are actually human looking aliens that hunt the human women that go outside the barrier.
They’re uncontrollably compelled by instinct thats is triggered by the scent of the human women, they pretty much maul & rape them and literally can’t help it.

As an Avid Dark Reader,
Books like this are right up my alley!
So that got my attention real quick, cause I haven’t read a book with a setting like this before.
But it sadly was not at all what I was expecting, it really wasn’t Dark much (to me).

A few areas in the book, I actually couldn’t decipher who was talking or asking a question in some conversations, or if there was an actual conversation going or it could’ve/might’ve been internal dialogue(?).
Lots of big words thrown into sentences or situations that literally had no reason to be there or just the fact they should be beyond Calypso’s vocabulary, so that left me a little annoyed because she can say/think all those BIG words but in smexy sections of the book I’m dealing with stuff like “...and slaps it against my glistening pink.”
and yes in that sentence it stops with that period. She’s referring to the Va-Jay-Jay, so I can get fancy words everywhere else but not here?

So there DEFINITELY needs to be better editing, but this copy is the raw and unedited version.

I think it would’ve been cool with a deeper horror twist, but I didn’t really get that the farther I read.
I don’t actually get a concrete time period, the village does plays of Shakespeare & Dorian Gray, also there is a girl named Mary Shelley...
Also Moby Dick was mentioned.
So I guess the time period is up to you?
The setting itself isn’t quite definitively answered so your left with more questions than answers..

Wasn’t too thrilled Kassien (a Koridon Prince) had a mate already (Her name is Efaelty, who is clearly jealous, yet their kind is supposed to not have those types of feelings/emotions(?) but she then becomes ‘understanding’ later..) and he pretty much tosses her to the side to make Calypso (a human girl) his mate to save his kind(?).

The beginning was paced pretty well, it was when Calypso & Kassien ‘met’ that the writing seemed to be more...uneven(?) it seems slow and fast past paced at the same time, so I got confused a lot and it had a immediate ‘Insta’ vibe.

I saw a brief bit of the Aliens Native Tongue here and there, and then when he suddenly spoke good English so No Real Language Barrier, that was kinda disappointing Lol

I was expecting Kassien to be more like Addison Cain’s Shepherd, which would’ve been awesome by the way. I came to that assumption due to the fact that the Male Koridon’s especially are described in the way they act towards human women, they seem to act like ‘Alpha’s’ do when they encounter Omega’s in Omegaverse genre, some just turn Feral when encountering one.
But he’s quite the opposite which doesn’t make real since for me...and I found him to be incredibly weak just at fighting. I was floored.
He seemed to almost be a background character, if it wasn’t for his POV’s and his name on the cover, I wouldn’t have known he was a main character.

Some parts of the book I found Calypso to be Very Strong and then there were parts I found her to suddenly be very...accommodating(?) and accepting....
Just roll with the punches...type.
Her self harming/injury didn’t make much sense to me Honestly, and at one moment she harms herself with Kassien and then the next she’s all giggly, weird...
It really just doesn’t fit her as a character, it was more like an add on for the heck of it, to give her character more pity I guess(?).

The book is quite chaotic, and a lot seems to happen in one day for example and you have no real breathing room, no real sense of time.

In the end I have to say this is the first book I’ve read from this author, and also this is the first book in the series(?) so that in itself is hard for an author.
This is an Okay Read.
Am I willing to check out the next book? I don’t mind giving it a shot, this could be just the ‘first book in a series’ jitters. It happens.
The plot is good, I see potential, but I am not overly excited to read the next book.

Only a person who is really into rape fantasies (no judgment!) would enjoy this book. For those who are not, this book is a train wreck, not just with the storyline of the heroine finding sexual pleasure during multiple rapes, but with details as well. For example, if the Koridon were as big and powerful to kill a woman by raping her, a punch to the face would likely kill a woman, or at least break her jaw. But, in this story, after being punched, her jaw felt better after a few hours. I gave up on this book after about 50%.

This was an interesting take on a post-apocalyptic/alien invasion scenario and I enjoyed it, very much. The future is one where humans are hiding in small communities, their daily lives highly structured and restricted. Women, especially, are curtailed in their activities for fear of drawing the attention of the aforementioned aliens. Calypso has always keenly felt these restrictions and her differences from the rest of her group. She soon learns the cost of standing out from the crowd.

This is the first book in what I hope will be an ongoing series, and it ends on a cliffhanger. The author has created a world ripe for expansion and I look forward to seeing where it goes, next.

There are definitely triggers in this book (non-con and dub-con), so be aware.

This is my first book By C.F. Rabbiosi and I have to say that I am impressed. Ms. Rabbiosi managed to create a fresh and original story. The world building is outstanding. I felt like I was truly living in this beautifully crafted world alongside its characters. I love that Calypso is such a strong heroine despite the cards fate keeps dealing her. This story is full of twists that take the reader on quite a ride. There is a certainly a lot of brutality and violent content so this may not be the book for everyone. It might benefit from further editing, however, this did not take away from my enjoyment of the book.

This is the first Dark Dystopian book that I have read. CF Rabbiosi writes with great description and takes you into her alien world with ease.
This is the story of Calypso, she was a strong young lady but she was different from everybody else. She looked different and she felt different.
The darkness and violence added to the story and made me want to read the book. I liked the way the characters interacted with each other whether they were friends or enemies.
A great first book in this genre.

I've read a few of Charity's books now and I'm always amazed at how she manages to absorb the reader. Her writing style is so in depth, the characters believable and this new one is no exception. I'm totally rooting for Calypso and Kassien excited for book 2.

This was my first book from this author. I love her creativity. She doesn’t write a cookie cutter book that you feel you have read before again and again. I really liked the character development and the twist turns the storyline took. Hope you enjoy it.

Characters

A lot of time is spent on Calypso and her development. She's a very human character caught in a post apocalyptic world. She has a lot of strength and weakness in her, a flawed character for sure but persistent and resilient. Kassien's more of a mystery because he doesn't get as much attention other then being very dominating, but he appear loyal and has a strong sense of right and wrong. Surprisingly I liked the characters and was invested pretty quickly in the story. This book is an erotica but a little more character development would have been nice.

Plot

Its an erotica in a post apocalyptic world with very aggressive male aliens dominating female humans. There are a few interesting sub plots (i.e. Calypso's origins, how the Koridon arrived, how the world ended, etc.) but it is really a brutal sexual ride.

Overall

This book had fantastic fast pacing and flowed nicely except for a few areas where I was utterly lost on who was talking. Also there were a few grammatical and spelling errors, but their placement rarely detracted from the story. I was turning pages wondering what was going to happen next and where the author might finish book 1. I read the second half of the book in one sitting and would absolutely read book 2. I'd like to stress going into this you need to realize this is 100% an erotica with romantic elements. There are things Calypso has to do to survive and it may seem like she is just going with the flow, but realistically what else could she do?

Minor **spoilers** ahead because I don't know how to write this without giving at least this much away. Going into I expected it to be more of an erotic because of the 'Omega' style romance. Side note: I had to Goggle what the heck I was getting myself into because I like the author but wanted to see how dark this genre was. Going into I was prepared for some sexual violence, dominating sexual content, and a little Stockholm Syndrome on top. I underestimated how much and there in lies the problem. About the fourth rape scene and I pretty annoyed thinking "We're doing this again?" Don't get me wrong, I like the realism of what it might be like for a woman in an apocalyptic era. The world is unforgiving at times and humans cruel. Throw in a dominating race that finds human females sexually addicting and make the larger aliens lose control, will only fuel the chance for violence (i.e. getting loved to death).

Rating

3.5 stars (rounded up and down)

Be warned this book is not for everyone and even at times it wasn't for me but the overall experience was a steamy erotic with a sci-fi backdrop. This story will fling your hair back as it takes you for a brutal sexual ride.

DNF I just couldn't get through it

This story was just bad I couldn't get myself to finish it, had nothing to do with the repitive rape scenes. I just couldn't get into it this story held no interest in me at all. Supposedly the world we know was ruined a long time ago and now only small groups of survivors managed to thrive. When Calypso was rescued from Alexander and his men after they had raped her and her best friend that's when I was finished. This alien took her for to make her his wife but he already has a wife? I'm guessing it was the chick that tried to choke Calypso, so yeah after reading all that I was done. I had no clue what the aliens were talking about and the author gave no explanation to help us better understand so we could follow the story. For instance he kept saying: "I will pay for Lekoran’s death." he said this to his friends and to Calypso when he mentioned it to her it was said when referring to Alexander: “What is the meaning of all this? You killed for me.” “Not for you.” He braces himself in a push up stance and comes down, so close his mouth brushes my bottom lip. It thrills. “For what you mean, I fought for. Lekoren had to be eliminated. He would have killed you.” Unless she clarified this later on in the story makes no difference to me this is my reasoning why I was unable to finish, it is very hard to follow a story if you don't understand what you're reading.

Scintillating and sexy tale of a future earth

Her name is Calypso, an earthling, but somehow mutated with marked characteristics that set her apart from 'normal' humans. His name is Kassien and he is a member of the race that invaded and conquered earth two centuries earlier, a Korridon. C. F. Rabbiosi has woven a superb tale of future earth which is both scintillating and sexy, and never boring as it moves along at a cracking pace. Brought up to fear above all the prospect of falling into the hands of the aliens who, she is told, will use and abuse her body until she lies dead and broken, her worst fears are brought to life when she is snatched up and whisked away by Kassien, prince of the Korridons.
Soon, all she has learned about the invaders is turned inside out as Kassien reveals the truth about the history of their two races, and the real reason for her abduction. The story kept me entralled from beginning to end, and left me disappointed to have reached the end, leaving me waiting for the next installment in the series. Excellent read, well worth 5 stars and highly recommended to Sci-fi lovers.

🙁Sadly this will be an overall negative review.

However, I have many good things to say as well, so let's start there.

The storyline is captivating and broad reaching giving the author a solid foundation to potentially build upon. Additionally the world building is creative and sharp without those distracting missing gaps. Also the character depictions are bold and striking outwardly melding together with their strong internal personalities. I truly enjoyed the vivid "mind pictures" the author painted as I read.

But during entirety of the book the energy picked up
then
no resolution
then
REPEAT.
REPEAT.
REPEAT....

So basically by the end of the book nothing is resolved and all the potential for a creative dream come true feels wasted. As I read I continually noted opportunities for story depth and expansion seemingly overlooked.

The lead characters formed somewhat of a connection but it was slight without much growth throughout the book.

The book closes with a couple of reveals but even that was weak.
Bad guy revealed.
A "development" revealed.
And the lead girl gets her history straight.

It was a meh moment when I made it to the end. I felt a big let down🙃

Great Paranormal Romance

I have to admit that I am a PNR newbie but was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book.
The author did a great job of building her post-apocalyptic world as well as her characters. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but after reading a few chapters I felt fully submerged in this world.

Calypso certainly is a unique character and I can honestly say I’ve never read anyone like her. I especially love her love driven outlook in life. Kassien is a beast and I could feel his angst with wanting Calypso and not wanting to hurt her.

This is book one in a duet, so I can’t wait to start that one. I definitely recommend this book! I’m also looking forward to finding other books by this author.

Great scifi read. The world and their reality is easily imagined in my head and everything seemed so intense. First book from this author and I was very pleased. Known to be defective as a human, she is filled with curiosity and tries to do right for her mother but an encounter by someone supposedly trustworthy and with everything not being as they seem, she is so much more. Im not sure where calypso gets her confidence from at the end when everything is falling in on them but I cant wait what the author has in store for us in the next installation of this book

I LOVED this story! I could not put it down and then I thought about it sooo much over the next three days I just had to read it again. It has the flawless balance of action, lust, rage and heat… my oh my the heat! The story keeps the reader engaged and engrossed with its unpredictable narrative. I loved the forced desire aspects of the story and the author’s version of an alien world (and men) is something to be desired by other authors. I loved this story. I have nothing but praise for both the story and the author! A must read if you love alien stories. A++

I had to DNF this book. This book has a dystopian feel to it, with humans hiding in settlements from aliens. Normally this is right up my alley. But this book just didn't flow for me. I can't connect with the characters at all. It feels like the attraction is too quick for the main characters, and what is with the main male character having a mate already and she's ok with him giving her up for the human? But then he gets beaten badly by another character and the main human chick is seemingly ok with things? I don't know...I'm all confused by this one.

This is my first time reading works by this author. As this is not my normal trope, I enjoyed the variety it provided. I enjoyed both main characters. Totally hot, one-sitting, beach read! Hide it from the kiddies! Can't wait for part two!

Ends in cliffhanger as KU so u have to purchase 2nd book

I totally forgot to make sure the other book was also KU, but it wasn't. I would like to know how it ends, but definitely not enough to pay for it. The imagination part was definitely descent, the writing read cluttered and repetitive, not smooth. I think there is definitely potential.

I can't believe I actually finished this book. It careens from sexual abuse to rape and then repeats itself. And when I say careens, I mean the writing is stream of consciousness without any literary redeeming value. Proofreading, spell checking, and grammar needed very badly!
Then there are the trigger warnings - wait, were there any? I'm not usually appalled or repelled by the sexual content of steamy romances, but there's a limit to how many nonconsensual encounters I can tolerate.
This reads like a first draft of a creative writing assignment by a high school student.
Again, I can't believe I read the whole thing.
