This might be one of the best vampire books I have read. The story behind it is different than any other vampire books I've read before.
When you combine vampires and humans with superpower abilities - you get the hybrids that are in this book.
There are six ''brothers'' who are vampire hybrids and they all have different abilities.
This book focuses on Blaze, who went through seven months of hell.
His tattoos can't cover the scars he will have for life. But meeting the love of his life might make his burden weigh less - or will it?
This is a story that will bring you on the edge and make you bite your nails constantly - but it's definitely worth reading it!

4.5 infrared stars
It has been a really long time since I read a good vampire book. JR Ward used to be my go-to author when I wanted to read a good vampire series (because let's accept it, Black Dagger Brotherhood was really fucking badass, at least the first 11 books), but then even she has disappointed me with the last two. So I had a huge gaping hole in my reading life that needed to be filled. Desperately. (And no, I'm not gonna read fucking Twilight!)
Enter Linda.
The first book in a series is always an important one- perhaps the most important one, especially in the fantasy/sci-fi genre- because this book not only carries the burden of telling an amazing story, and capturing the readers base, but also the added burden of world building. And that is where most books fail.
But Releasing the Demons did a brilliant job with building the perfect world where vampires lived alongside humans.
First I want you to imagine what would happen if the world discovered that there were vampires living in it. OK, well the first thing that would happen is stupid teenage girls would turn into a mob and try and tackle them looking for their sparkly soulmates. But think after that. After everyone realizes that vampires are not boyfriend material, unless you wanna be a human mantis. That they are indeed the most dangerous predators on the planet, and as humans we would be equivalent to cattle to them.
Does that sound logical to you? Because it sure as hell does to me.
Releasing the Demons is based in a dystopian world, where the vampires and humans are having an existential war. Where losing would mean that the entire human race would become a cattle, only existing to fulfill the hunger of the vampires. In that world, everyone is a target, and the police are no longer trained to fight human crime, but they are trained to fight, you guessed it- leeches (vampires).
Valerie Madeiros is an NYPD detective, who had dedicated her entire life to hunting vampires after her 8 year old sister had been ruthlessly murdered. Life is pretty black and white for her. All vampires are bad, and anyone fighting them is on their side. Until she comes across a case- a brutal case, where a young 24 year old woman had been killed by the vampires and then her body set on fire, discovered only after it had already been half burnt.
Enter Blaze Knight.
The perfect perpetrator. He fit all the descriptions given by the witnesses- huge, muscular, drove an expensive car, and his entire body was full of tattoos. Except, what about the vampire thing? He had walked out of her house in the broad daylight, and vampires couldn't walk in the sun. Could they?
5 years ago, Blaze had been captured by a sadistic vampire- Cyrus, and had been held captive for 7 months, where he had been tortured, raped, and had basically been turned into a monster. Even 5 years later, he lived with the scars and the guilt from his time in captivity. As a hybrid, or dhampir (to the Vampire Academy fans), or a half-human half-vampire, that was the part of the Order of Senery (made up of 5 other Knight brothers), he had been conceived to destroy the entire race of leeches. But he was not just a mere hybrid. He had a little more powers of his own. Aka, he was a pyrokinetic, that is, he could create fire from his fingers (which sounds so bloody cool!), and he saw in infrared, instead of you know.. normal colors (which if I'm honest, I'm kind of jealous of. I mean what the hell! That is the single most coolest thing ever!). But he paid a hefty price for his gifts- he never saw colors (because yeah, that does sound kind of sad), and his hands had been ruined, because his own fire destroyed his nerves.
Blaze was obviously not our killer, so the killer was out there. As was the leech that had captured Blazed years ago. And now, he's come to collect.
Now see this is where the story gets interesting, because usually, after the MCs meet, the circumstances that brought them together gets promptly forgotten, and it's a love story from there on. But Rose stuck to the plot, and instead of making it all about the romance, she made it about the thriller.
As a couple, Val and Blaze were amazing. I really got their chemistry, and the development of their relationship, if a little too fast paced, never made you feel that. I mean it. I think they knew each other for 3 days at most before they fell in love with, but the writing is so detailed, that it doesn't feel like just 3 days. I had to literally count the number of sunrises to realize that it was just a couple of days. So I think that should tell you something eh?
I really enjoyed this book to be honest. It had been a long long time since I read something so wholesome. Linda's writing was brilliant (I might be biased because of the science talk because I'm a total nerd like that, but seriously). She gave you a scientific reason for almost all the things that happened in the book, which is a fresh breath of air from the usual magic explanation. After I finished the book, I was begging for more, so instead of reviewing it, I did the most logical thing- I just started reading the next one lol, and oh-mah-gawd that one is sooo good! I'll have the review up sometime tomorrow, and try and keep the ranting in check. But check this book out. If you are looking for a great series (and I can already tell it is going to be one), I really suggest this.

I haven't read a good PNR book from a new author in a long time. So many of them barely scratch the surface of any kind of emotion. They are rarely very dark. It's usually some kind of Insta love-at-first sight/ mate bond/ fated whatever. But I am excited to say that not only did I find this book good, I found it very good. And it was super dark. The hero was super tortured. And I enjoyed it from start to finish.
This book got me hooked from the very first page with an extremely compelling first chapter. Now if you are put off by torture, this may not be right for you. But it is necessary to the story because it is the fodder that drives our hero's story. Blaze is a human-vampire hybrid. He endured seven months of abject horror at the hands of a powerful vamp. It's been years, but it still haunts him. Now he works with his band of brothers, the Order of the Senary, to put down as many vampires as possible and to use their special hybrid gifts to keep humanity safe.
Our heroine, Valerie, is a human cop. She is driven by the death of her sister at the hands of a vampire. She and Blaze come together when he is framed for a murder she is investigating. She did not even know that hybrids existed. Most of the world doesn't. But everyone knows about vampires. They are the bogeyman of the world that they live in, a world that in many ways has been pulverized by their existence.
I really liked Blaze as a hero. He has been through so much and he is hanging on by such a slender thread. He is so powerful, yet so broken. And Valerie is the missing piece that puts him together. I liked her fairly well, though there were times, one time in particular, that she frustrated me. I know she has reasons for her hang-ups, but I just wanted to wrap up Blaze in bubble wrap and save him from ever being hurt again.
I'm fascinated by all of the hybrids. Obviously they are a treasure trove of characters designed to fill books to come. This is book one in the series, but there were times I felt like there was backstory that I had missed in a previous book. Maybe the author was just trying to deepen the history of the characters to give them more depth, but it felt like maybe I had missed some things.
That small niggle and the one time I wanted to nut-punch Valerie aside, I really enjoyed this story. The writing was really good. The characters were so fleshed out. And I cared what happened to them. That means the author did it right. Can't wait to jump in to book two.

One of the things I love most about blogging is being introduced to an author who is new to me and falling in love with their writing. L.D. Rose has accomplished the near impossible with this book because it has catapulted her to my list of favorite PNR reads with the first book!!
Five years ago, Blaze was tortured by a powerful vampire named Cyrus. He was held and drained in order for his own power to be absorbed. He's only now getting his life back on track for the last two years, but Cyrus has returned and he's out for Blaze's blood. Why? That's because Blaze and his brothers are genetically engineered human/vampire hybrids with extraordinary powers that Cyrus wants to harness for himself. Cool, right? Blaze sees in infrared and can manipulate fire, traits that Cyrus is hungry for. Valerie is an NYPD detective and in this dystopian NY, she and her fellow cops work together to eradicate the vampire threat. She has no idea that the hybrids even exist beyond rumors until Blaze asks for her help in defeating Cyrus and the threat to humanity once and for all.
I positively loved the world building in this one. It was easy to imagine the desolate and abandoned boroughs of NY by the way it was depicted. I could picture the humans scurrying for the safety of their homes before nightfall. I also loved watching Blaze and Val fall for each other. Their wants, needs, and fears were made to feel even more powerful because of the danger that loomed around every corner. The pall of death and depravity hung heavy throughout this story and gave it a tang of darkness that was almost tangible. Each character had such depth and clarity to them that I couldn't help but clamor for more and as much as I want to learn about each and every one of them, I'm finding it hard to let go of the main ones of this story, especially Blaze. Dude totally captured my attention from start to finish! He was a remarkable human for a man who was half leech.

I had no idea what to expect when I won this book at an online event: as I was unfamiliar with the author but she was fun and the book sounded interesting so I moved it to the front of my mile long TBR list. Let me just say that I'm very glad that I did!
The story grabs you right from the start, and when I say it's intense believe me it is INTENSE! It centers around a hybrid vampire/human named Blaze and his genetically modified "brothers" who are part of a unique group working with the secret part of the military to take out the vampires who are taking over. Each of the brothers has a unique power which allows them to be able to take on and destroy most vamps. It also makes them a target for the vamps. Blaze had been a prisoner to one of the most powerful vamps Cyrus Chimola for 7 months. While Blaze was being held captive he was brutally tortured, during this time Chimola found out that drinking Blazes' blood would allow him to take on Blazes abilities. Blazes' brothers find and rescue him, but now recapturing Blaze is a top priority for Chimola, and he will stop at nothing to do it.
Valerie Madeira is a detective with the NYPD. She has heard stories of "super heroes" saving humans and killing vamps but hasn't yet seen them in person,..until she meets Blaze who has been "set up" as a killer after a brutal crime. This is where the story really takes off. Valerie has every reason not to trust any vamp and to want to take them all out as her sister was brutally murdered by vamps when she was only 8 years old. Valerie and Blaze and the rest of his group have to trust each other and work together to take out the vamps and their nests. But can Valerie put her demons to rest to do this? Can Blaze overcome the demons from his past torture and learn to let Valerie in?? The story is non stop action and heart pounding hold your breath scenes. The author makes her characters come to life on the pages and you will be tempted to cover your eyes on many occasions, but you won't want to miss a thing! I am looking forward to the next book in this action packed series!

Blaze had been a prisoner to one of the most powerful vamps Cyrus Chimola for 7 months. While Blaze was being held captive he was brutally tortured, during this time Chimola found out that drinking Blazes' blood would allow him to take on Blazes abilities. Blazes' brothers find and rescue him, but now recapturing Blaze is a top priority for Chimola, and he will stop at nothing to do it.
Valerie Madeira is a detective with the NYPD. She has heard stories of "super heroes" saving humans and killing vamps but hasn't yet seen them in person,..until she meets Blaze who has been "set up" as a killer after a brutal crime. This is where the story really takes off. Valerie has every reason not to trust any vamp and to want to take them all out as her sister was brutally murdered by vamps when she was only 8 years old. Valerie and Blaze and the rest of his group have to trust each other and work together to take out the vamps and their nests. But can Valerie put her demons to rest to do this? Can Blaze overcome the demons from his past torture and learn to let Valerie in?? The story is non stop action and heart pounding hold your breath scenes. The author makes her characters come to life on the pages and you will be tempted to cover your eyes on many occasions, but you won't want to miss a thing! I am looking forward to the next book in this action packed series!

L.D. Rose has created an incredible world where Vampires have come out of hiding and established their dominance.
The Vampire's now rule the night and humans are left to live, survive and pick up the pieces of death and destruction left for them come morning.
This was a dark, edgy story that was well developed and well written.
I loved the world this author has created and the "super-heroes" she's created to combat the vampires.
"The Order of the Senary" are complex characters, each with their own demons and special gifts.
They are also honourable, loyal, and determined warriors that fight for what's right and just.
The chemistry and sexual tension between Blaze and Val was off the charts.
When they first met they didn't trust or even like one another, but once they starting working together and getting to know one another, the most incredible thing happened...they began to love and heal one another.
My favourite part of the book was when Val was shaving Blaze.
There's something so erotic and intimate in this act.
I loved how their relationship developed and how it wasn't a "love at first sight" but something that was worth fighting for and dying for.
A great first book for a new series!
I look forward to reading more of this author's work.

First of all, peeps, I have to reinforce that this is not a bad book, but it needs more work. I can only speak for myself, and I know that I tend to be more critical of paranormal romance genre than many other readers. As it is, read other reviews before you discount this book completely. I'll just give you my bullet points of what I did not like and what showed a lot of promise.
Pros:
- world-building is an interesting mix of post-apocalyptic/dystopian setting, scientific breakthrough and vampire mythology and culture. For example, the main hero is a hybrid of vampire and human, a result of a scandalous genetic experiment and a wielder of an interesting pyrokinetic power.
- multiracial, multicultural set of characters which felt vibrant.
- for the fans of J.R.Ward, Lara Adrian, Lynn Vielh and J.A. Saare this will be a familiar and much beloved plotline about a group of warriors fighting against an evil force and acquiring mates/love in between.
Cons:
- the main hero sees in infrared, and many of the facial expressions of the heroine from his point of view seem questionable (things like radiant smile, the look in her eyes, etc.). I think the author limited his sight options without adjusting how he will see and fall in love with the heroine. There are cop-outs of course. His psychic brother shows him how the heroine looks in his mind, and he likes that she has a distinct scent of jasmine.
- the least favourite part of PNR for me is almost instantaneous love between the main characters. Come on! The heroine has valid reasons to stay away from the hero, she has a childhood trauma which she seems to overcome in no time at all within few days of knowing the hero. The relationship needed conflict and overcoming an inner turmoil, and we didn't get that.
- at last the writing style itself needed a good clean. There is just so much reiteration, overly dramatic descriptions of everything, that I wanted to take a red pen and start cutting it out. Seriously, less is more, especially with the main heroine being a cop. They are not generally prone to drama.
- at last, I wish there was more time spent on world-building and explaining how the hybrids powers worked, telling us how the world went to ruin. Certainly, there were some interesting characters that I wanted to know more.
Overall, this book had good potential, and perhaps with further instalments in the series it will be realised. I don't think this is for me, but I can see the appeal for many other readers in PNR genre.

Releasing the Demons is easily one of my favorite reads of the year! It's a great blend of paranormal romance and urban fantasy with, my favorite, vampy goodness. I will say, it does have a Black Dagger Brotherhood fell to it but at the same time, a world all its own. Here in book one, we meet SIX 'brothers' and so I expect no less than five more books in this series and let me just say, I'm looking forward to it!
These brothers have a special link and very specific goal in life and first up is Blaze. Name wise, I have to say his is my least favorite but that little tidbit didn't affect my enjoyment of the book itself. I'm just kind of weird about character names lol. Blaze went through seven long months of hell and he yearns for the taste of revenge whether he loses himself in the process or not. Our heroine is the independent, strong minded Detective Valerie Medeiros and when their worlds collide, all hell breaks loose...literally.
One the most notable PRO's is that the heroine isn't stupid, nor is she awe struck by the mere first sight of the hero. She doesn't get all fluttery, there's no cringe worthy lip biting either. She had a job to do and she did it. That in itself was so refreshing, as I can't deal with any more 'insta love' BS. I just can't, so bravo Ms. Rose!
This was such and easy read. The pacing was spot on, character and world development was clear and precise. The chemistry went far beyond just the main couple, the entire world just came together effortlessly.I never had to stop, scratch my head and backtrack for clarification. Another PRO, which may not be a big deal to all readers, was the presence of ethnic character. I don't mean that the author met a certain quota. I was able to detect the ethnic diversity in the characters without the author going too far. There were no pitiful clichés that screamed " LOOK! Here's my token black guy!" Again, refreshing.
The romance was simply perfect and the heat factor on pointe. Yes, I did indeed love this book. I had quite a few moments where it tugged at my heartstrings and when you get to the 'favor' Blaze asked of his brother Rome...sigh...so good. Oh! And the scene where Blaze and Valerie and speaking from opposite sides of her front door, yep...pass the tissue.

Let me just say, WOW! What an action packed book that had me reeling from the start. It's a gritty, vampire packed, edge of your seat read.
It's a world where vampires are known to the public as a menace. It's not a genre that I often read, but if they are all like this, then I'm all for it.
This is a story about Blaze. He is a genetically modified hybrid vampire with the special ability of pyrokinesis. He is part of a group that hunts down vampires(also known as leeches). It's because of his abilities that has every leech vying for his blood, especially Chimola, one of coven leaders. Tortured, scarred, and left a broken man, Blaze's story is brutal and his hatred for Chimola and his cronies is great.
It's with the help of his brothers (who all have their special abilities) and Valerie, that Blaze releases his demons.
I loved the character of Valerie. She is a kick ass cop that enjoys hunting down vampires. Valerie also has her demons and a past that haunts her everyday. She eventually teams up with Blaze and his group and burns her way to her HEA.
The story switches POVs. It's a great way to get into the heads of all the characters. Especially, the antagonists of the story. It was fun to be in the head of Chimola and know what he and his cronies were up to.
As soon as I finished this book, I kept thinking about it. I did not want to leave their world. All the characters were interesting and endearing. I want to read more this author has to offer, especially if this is a series.

Woh! I really liked this book!!
I'm usually so flipping sick and tired of the vampire stories, and usually someone says vampire and i run as far away as possible.
But i loved every moment and character of this one.
Shock. Amazement. Horror.
Did i just find a story with vampires that I liked?
Yup.
This story brings forth the Order of the Senary, men with superhuman abilities who destroy the vampires and rid the world of the threat associated with them.
They're a bit like superheroes.
but no one knows about them.
We get to meet Blaze Knight, he's known as the firestarter.
Blaze has had the most horrific past, being abducted and tortured by vampires when he was younger.
He is the essence of the tortured hero.
Couple that with kick-butt heroine Valerie and you get quiet a pair!
Okay, side note, This book is definitely a new- adult to adult series. Therefore there are sexual themes and violence, as well as language. You've been warned.
Other than that, this book was very complex and fascinating! I can't wait to read about the other 'brothers' in the Order of the Senary.

Releasing the Demons is such a wonderful paranormal romance, one that has left me super excited about where the series is to go from here. In fact, I’m starting book two instantly and the fact book three has yet to be released leaves the already formed fangirl disappointed. After all, I’m a big lover of binge reading entire series. Patience is not my forte, and whilst I’ll happily wait for the next book to be released, I favour diving into each new book as soon as I finish the prior.
For me, Releasing the Demons is a very strong four star read. Initially, I gave it a four-point-five star rating. Five stars are extremely hard to pull out of me, and such a rating is wonderful. After sitting and thinking for a while, I realised it isn’t quite that full four-point-five stars, but it is still an overly easy strong four star read. It was a great read, one any fan of the genre should pick right up. Without a doubt, I recommend it to anyone looking for a refreshing paranormal romance.
We enter a world that mixes together so many different aspects: some kind of dystopian future, vampires, and a unique collection of hybrids. It’s a world that pulls you in right from the start, and I positively loved it.
As amazing as it is – which I will elaborate upon shortly – retrospect has me realising it wasn’t quite all it could have been. Mainly, we’re never quite given a full explanation of the world we’re living in. We get references to events, we know things have happened, but we do not have a complete understanding. Such is where I felt a bit let down by the story: I wanted a better understanding of the world. I wanted to better comprehend the dystopian-like world we’re introduced to, rather than it simply being.
Nevertheless, I was pulled so into the world that such a thing didn’t really register with me until I had finished reading and stopped to think prior to writing my review. Honestly, the world pulls you in from the get go. There is so much action, so much going on, that you jump from one scene to the next without being given a moment to stop and think. The story is constantly moving, allowing you to watch the events slowly unfold before your eyes.
Did I mention how wonderful the story is? Well, it is. Wonderful, I mean. It’s dark and twisted; it is filled with so many emotions. There isn’t much by way of mystery, there aren’t that many surprises, but you are given countless moments of suspense and endless thrill. As I’ve already stated, the story is constantly moving. There isn’t a moment in which we’re left asking for more as we’re unable to stop and catch a breath. Even in the moments when the action slows down somewhat, we’re kept in a tight ball due to the emotions being forced to the fore through the interactions of our characters.
That brings me nicely to my next point, actually. Our main characters.
I’ll start by saying our entire cast is wonderful. I came to enjoy everyone, both the good and the bad. Not to mention the in between, as we’re given quite a bit of the grey area. Everyone has a role in the story, and I found myself wanting to read more about the characters. I’m so glad such a thing is happening in the next book, and I hope it addresses some of the issues I had with the characters in this one. When I say issues, know it is nothing big. It is little things, such as not fully understanding the characters to the degree I had hoped to. We understand our main characters on such a deep level, but there are a number of question marks surrounding some of our side characters. I loved them, yet I feel as though there were some blanks I want filling in. I’m hoping these blanks exist so that their individual stories can be told and explore these aspects fully, but I still would have liked a wee bit more for some of the characters.
As I stated, however, we get to understand our main characters so well. I cannot begin to explain how much I loved them, how much I enjoyed their chemistry. There were a few things I disliked about the way their story developed, but I was so in love with them that these things were quickly pushed to the back of my mind.
I’ll deal with the issues, first just to get them out of the way. First up, is the speed of the romance. It seemed to happen far too quickly. It’s a common thing in paranormal romances, but it always bugs me. I prefer it when we watch things bloom over time, I like watching things slowly bloom. We’re without the tropes here – there’s no ‘mate’ aspect to this story – but the speed was still a bit more than I would have liked. Second, is the turnaround in emotions for one of our characters. It’s the typical paranormal romance story of one character belonging to a group of monsters that has messed up the life of the other character. For me, our female changed her view much quicker than I felt fit with her personality. These were the only things I disliked about our main characters, but as a whole I loved them.
They’re both extremely complex. Each has a dark past that was thoroughly enjoyable to learn more about. Each has unique traits, aspects of their personality that make them a lot of fun. Most of all, they work so well together. They’re both such strong characters underneath it all, and watching the way the chemistry built up was beautiful. I could honestly say so much, but I’ll sum it up with one simple statement: the duo in this story is one of my favourites within the genre. Honestly, I want more from them. I really do hope they appear in the future books, allowing me to see more of their beautiful chemistry.
Honestly, I could rant on and on, but I’ll stop now. Just know this is a wonderful introduction to what promises to be a glorious series. I cannot wait to pick up book two, and I’ll be eagerly anticipating book three as soon as I’m done with it.

Honestly, I could rant on and on, but I’ll stop now. Just know this is a wonderful introduction to what promises to be a glorious series. I cannot wait to pick up book two, and I’ll be eagerly anticipating book three as soon as I’m done with it.

Releasing the Demons is the first book in The Order of the Senary series by L.D Rose. This was the authors debut novel, although she has since written more books. It is a wonderfully original paranormal romance that is a little bit like a cross between X-Men, Buffy, and Blade. There is plenty of action, violence danger and adventure as the story unfolds. This was a great story- well written with a multi-layered plot that kept me engrossed the whole time. The hidden agendas and sinister forces added an extra element of tension and intrigue- while the vampire/human conflict gave the whole book a slight dystopian feel for me (in a good way).
Blaze Knight is a genetically engineered mercenary with paranormal abilities- a hybrid who is on a mission to eradicate vampires and protect the human population. He is tormented by his memories of torture and unimaginable horror at the hands of his vampire captors 5 years earlier- as he endured 7 months of hell, wishing for oblivion, before finally being rescued. Now he wreaks his revenge while still trying to put what happened behind him. Circumstances occur that thrust him in the life of a feisty NYPD detective, and his world is tipped on its axis.
Valerie Medeiros is a highly trained Detective, who along with her partner, works to keep the vampires from decimating the humans in the city. The human crime rate was non-existent, but the same can’t be said for the vampires. She lost her sister in the most gruesome way and that fuels her quest against the vampires. When bodies begin to stack up, and things take a perplexing turn, Blaze enters the scene, and danger ramps up that will threaten everything.
Blaze is one of 6 brothers who all have unique abilities. But, what happens when the hunters become the hunted? Will Blaze and Valerie make it through, or will the sinister forces win out in the end?

I. NEEDED. THIS. BOOK!
I haven't read fantasy in awhile and I made it a goal to read more of it this year. I didn't want something high fantasy and over the top though so Releasing the Demons was PERFECT! While there are powers and vampires and amazing abilities in this book it still felt very grounded in realism if that makes since.
This book has EVERYTHING and I was here for it all. The romance, the violence, the suspense, the amazing background story! I loved it so much!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I hope this is the beginning of a great series. I've fallen in love with the Knight hybrids. There were some interesting differences between them and other hybrids I've read about. I would rank this book with Christine Feehan's Carpathian series and she's one of my favorite authors.

It has been awhile since I've found a book by a new author that I really loved. This one was gripping, funny and full of anticipation and excitement. It was a refreshing a new take on vampires. Absolutely loved it.

Great Story. . . . I have to say I was expecting one thing and got another in this story. This book would have been a 5 star read for me, but I had one issue with the author’s storytelling. Some scenes had too much detail narrative for me, so I had to skip over a lot of it.
The story was action packed, intense, and had passionate love. The relationship build was great and I really fell for Blaze. A suffering warrior. I felt his anguish and regret filled existence. Great Read!

A secret band of brothers fighting against the monsters that go bump into the night is a familiar trope, whether it be in PNR or or otherwise, and it’s one that tends to peak my curiosity because I want to see how the author will make it their own. And while there are a few things I’m still waffling over a bit, I found Releasing the Demons to be an overall enjoyable first in series read with a good balance of action, humor and characters that I want to know more about.
After being taken prisoner and tortured Blaze’s life was tilted on it’s axis, but with the help of his brothers he worked at setting things right and getting back on track with what he was created to do. I really liked Blaze. For all the scars that he bears, both inside and outside, and the constant battle he has going on with the monster within him, he is a good man. He cares about his mission in life and ensuring the safety of those he calls his own, even if he doesn’t realize they are his at the time. He may slip every so often, but even then his lapses are never towards those who are innocent.
On the surface Valerie’s life doesn’t look much different than anyone else’s, but the brutal murder of her sister when she was young set her on a path where protect and serve weren’t just words, but sacred vows. Valerie is one tough cookie. She sees the havoc that the vampires wreak every night and wants to stop it, but no matter how intense the situation is, she doesn’t step into the vigilante realm, most of the time. She respects the process and knows her limitations.
Blaze and Valerie’s relationship starts off rocky, but I enjoyed how it all played out between them. I loved their battle of wills and the banter that came from it. They were honest, or at least as honest, as they could be about who they were and their motives and really liked that Blaze respected Valerie’s strength even as he worked at protecting her. Things progress somewhat quickly between them from when they meet to when the “L” word starts appearing in their heads, but I wouldn’t necessarily label it as “insta-love” because to me that would mean they declared their feelings, even if only in their heads, the moment they met. There are a few obstacles they have to work through and I liked that it was done without too much OTT drama associated with it.
I was hooked from the first page, it was a brutal way to start things off, but it did exactly as it was meant to. I found the writing style easy to read and I liked multiple 3rd person POV’s. Where my waffling comes into play centers around the fact that I would have liked a little more detailed background on the Senary and specifically Blaze himself. We find out how he was created, but only go as far back as him imprisonment and the fallout from it. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story, but it would have bumped up my rating had we gotten a more indepth look at the man.
In the name of total honesty, I was contacted by the author to see if I’d be interested in reading the second book of the series and opt’d to read and review the first as well since it is a series. I did a little research and read a few reviews before taking the plunge. I will say that the comparisons to some of the more popular ‘band of brothers’ PNR series was one of the reasons I decided to give this one a go and will say that while there are similarities, the author made it her own with what each member brings to the table. I enjoyed the family vibe and camaraderie between them all and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for The Order of the Senary.

As I’ve repeated before, I don’t usually read paranormal books, but in this instance, I’m glad I did. L.D. Rose has created a post-apocalyptic world in which powerful vampires rule by night. The vampires are divided into opposing gang-like groups that control different parts of the country. Manhattan is controlled by a particularly evil vampire Alek Konstantinov, and Florida by Cyrus, a vampire who has designs on becoming the supreme leader of the vampires. The only force stemming the tide of the destruction of the human race is the hybrids, a brotherhood of half-vampire, half-human, super-enhanced beings that after the Insurgency were created by a failed project, G-Fusion, that the United States government created in the hopes of fighting the vampire enemy. The hybrids were both “predator and prey” and the project under violent protest was eliminated, however not so the hybrids born from it. The world has become a scary place in which, every arm of the US government, the police, the FBI, and the CIA are united in their efforts to kill monsters and protect humans who are only free to live their lives during the day and cower in their homes at night.
Most people don’t know of the existence of the brotherhood, the Senary, or their members the hybrid Knight brothers (they all bear the same last name and blood), that are dedicated to their self-imposed mission to hunt and destroy the bad guys (vampires) and rescuing the good guys (humans). The news media portrays the hybrids as superhero vigilantes, who operate similarly to Batman and Superman. They are revered and feared.
Blaze Knight is bitter and angry, a hate-filled hybrid, who bears the physical and mental scars of torture a gift from the vampires. His entire body except for his face is tattooed to cover the scars from vampire torture. Blaze’s hybrid skill is he is a Firestarter, he can burn everything and anything when he wants, a trait that is sometimes hard to control when he loses his temper and he heats things up. Forget about it, when sex is involved, It’s going to get hot, very hot.
Valerie Medeiros is a Brooklyn cop, tough as nails, a skilled vampire killer who struggles with her own personal demons, a childhood destroyed by the loss of her younger sister who was brutally killed and sucked dry by vampires. Due to a murder investigation, Valerie and Blaze are thrown together for all of the wrong reasons. These damaged, unapproachable people are attracted to one another and share one unshakable determination, killing vampire monsters. They are about to face a threat that could virtually turn the tables giving the vampires an advantage that might destroy the human race. Valerie, Blaze and the Senary are the only hope to stop the vampires.
Who can resist a story where good and evil is so clearly defined, and where love may be the only factor that can save the day.

I didn't know what to expect, but I absolutely liked what I got! This book had a perfect balance of romance and ass-kicking action! Not to mention humor, a bit of gore, and heart-felt scenes that almost brought tears to my eyes.
I loved the main characters, Blaze and Valerie: A tough as nails half-vampire with a soft side, and a police detective, who proved to be a perfect example of what I like to see in a strong female character - nothing about her shouted TSTL - lol!
The ravaged landscape of NYC, the very bad, multi-cultural vampires (leeches- lol), and The Order of the Senary (Blade's brothers) were great components of the gritty world presented. It was hard for me to put the book down.
I am definitely going to be reading more of what this author puts out!
(Something also tells me that this is also more literary than the BDB books)
However - one item that should be looked into is the formatting (Kindle). Within the chapters, some sections that were obviously supposed to be separated all ran together, which sometimes made for confusing reading.

If you're looking for a heart-pounding story full of blood and romance, Releasing the Demons is a great place to start. There was never a dull moment in the book, the world building was incredible. L.D. Rose has created a world you want to be a part of regardless of the consequences.
A gritty, sexy and original story, one that will grab your attention right from the start, and hold on tight till the very end. A total must read for paranormal lovers.

Book one of the series Releasing the Demons by L.D. Rose. WOW, I am so glad I read this. I love it when vampires are the villains, really I mean if vampires are undead they have no soul and can't be good. If comparing book series (normally I hate to do that but with a new author, for me, and a new series sometimes it is the best way to get the feel of the book across) I would put this up there with Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series and a much better than Black Dagger Brotherhood. The book was well written and very engaging. The active setting for this dystopian post vampire apocalypse was fantastic. I could easily picture a deserted vampire ridden Manhattan, it was chilling. I kind of liked the fact that it was slow to release information about the Order of the Senary, it puts you in Valerie's shoes you find out as she does and still leaves more for us to uncover, but it did feel like there is supposed to be a book before this. I loved the characters, all of them, each of the guys involved in the Order are unique they all have different personalities and stuff but they are bonded but blood and have a common goal protect humans and kill vampires. The villains were truly evil and horrid individuals, as they should be.
Valerie is a NYPD Detective in the unit designated for vampire victims, and she is on the hunt for the person who killed and burned a young woman. All evidence points her the mysterious Blaze Knight. Blaze survived hell, six months being tortured and tormented by a vampire named Cyrus, five years later Blaze is still coping with the nightmares. Cyrus escaped all those years ago but for some reason he's back and he has targeted everyone Blaze has come into contact with especailly a beautiful young detective. The only way to keep Valerie safe is to tell her everything about his brothers and the Order of the Senary. Blaze is drawn to Valerie and protecting her from the likes of Cyrus has become his number one priority. As much as Valerie wanted to hate and blame Blaze for the murder she admits she was wrong and the romance between them flares.
Overall, this book is such a winner! I really enjoyed this. It does get violent and graphic but hey, I love that stuff, I'm morbid that way.

Releasing the Demons (The Order of the Senary #1) by L.D. Rose was a fast pace, heart pounding thriller that had me hooked from start to finish.
My first read by this author and I was hooked with in seconds of reading that gruesome opening. What a way to start an as equally gruesome, dark, supernatural thriller, where vampires are real, they aren't nice, and are slowly taking out humans at night fall. Every morning the death toll goes up, and no matter what the police do, they can't get a hold on things.
This book was, wow, once I started reading I could not put it down. Blaze, he was truly the star of this book for me. Yeah sure Valerie was pretty cool and kick ass, but Blaze, and what he went through, his character growth was something else, and though this is told in multi POV, I much preferred Blaze's narrative.
The worlding building and the way the info of this world was giving, felt natural and at no point did I feel like I was being dumped on or confused. Info was giving when necessary, and at times, not knowing made for better suspense for the reader. Though by the end my heart was ready to explode.
Overall this is a A class read and I can't wait to dive further into this dark, haunting series. This book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.

This was my lucky weekend to date this year. Why, because I found another author to add to my list of excellent writers to feed my hungry for everything paranormal; vampire romance specifically.
The book Releasing the Demons book one in L.D. Rose The Order of the Senary), I just proved to myself that you can’t judge a book by its cover. By looking at the cover, I wouldn’t have known the mystery that awaited me. I would certainly have passed the book up. But, since the second book in this series was recommended I thought I start the series of by reading the first. And if that holds my attention then I would read the other.
Let me start off…I am going to read the second book. L.D. Rose has written a compelling tale that starts with a new type of Vampire. Hybrid Vampires that were born in a lab and was never to be learned about. In Releasing the Demons, we that learned that knowledge isn’t always a good thing to have. It makes people do foolish things. Take for instance New York, the once thriving state has now been destroyed by the knowledge that blood sucking leeches were living among them. But, instead of destroying the vampires it seems that the enemy they were trying to eliminate just thrived in the destruction that man have caused. Now, with New York over run with Vampires, the government decided to open a new type of police force. This police force, is only to investigate and eliminate the threat to mankind.
And that is how the story of Releasing the Demons began. Valerie has history with the enemy she was hired to exterminate. The vampires took some one she loved. And with the pain she was determined to make sure no one else had to live with that pain. With that the coldness grew and she made it her life mission to personal mission to make sure it became a reality. But Valerie soon will come to realize that not all vampires was out to make humans a full fledge three course meal. That there are those vampires, like Blaze Knight and his brothers, who work secretly to bring those out to destroy human kind to Vampire justice.
I could go on and on about his book, and with it being 306 pages of extremely well thought out plotline and characters that you certainly would fall in love with. I would recommend that if you are looking for a good vampire romance that you can sink your teeth into, Releasing the Demons is that book. With action packed and a love story that will leaving you wanting to know more about these brothers and what makes them tick. Then pick up a copy today, and make those boring days disappear, at least as long as it takes you to complete Releasing the Demons (The Order of the Senary #1)

Now, with New York over run with Vampires, the government decided to open a new type of police force. This police force, is only to investigate and eliminate the threat to mankind.
And that is how the story of Releasing the Demons began. Valerie has history with the enemy she was hired to exterminate. The vampires took some one she loved. And with the pain she was determined to make sure no one else had to live with that pain. With that the coldness grew and she made it her life mission to personal mission to make sure it became a reality. But Valerie soon will come to realize that not all vampires was out to make humans a full fledge three course meal. That there are those vampires, like Blaze Knight and his brothers, who work secretly to bring those out to destroy human kind to Vampire justice.
I could go on and on about his book, and with it being 306 pages of extremely well thought out plotline and characters that you certainly would fall in love with. I would recommend that if you are looking for a good vampire romance that you can sink your teeth into, Releasing the Demons is that book. With action packed and a love story that will leaving you wanting to know more about these brothers and what makes them tick. Then pick up a copy today, and make those boring days disappear, at least as long as it takes you to complete Releasing the Demons (The Order of the Senary #1)

Blaze nearly laughed out loud, the urge bubbling up inside him for the first time in days. Dax had a few screws loose, but hell, didn’t they all?
The Good
For starters I love the ideal of the Hybrids having different traits along with drawbacks to using them. The ideal of the world going on lockdown as Vampires are discovered also rings true in my eyes. Blaze and his personality fit really well when you learn the things he has gone through. The vampires, while sadistic, were individual enough that they didn't all blur into a blob of evil. They were developed well enough that the story didn't feel bogged down at all. Valerie was also worthy of co-hero in the book. For a human, she could kick some serious tail and yet still feel believable.
The Bad
If I was to call anything Bad, I guess it would be me wanting to know more on the hybrids and how their group was funded. But it's a small detail that I'm sure will come out in the next book. Along with getting to know more about some of the other hybrids and the gifts.
The Romance
While Blaze and Valerie don't exactly fall in love at first sight, you do see them becoming attracted to each other. It might have been a bit fast but it makes the story work.
Conclusion
Overall I enjoyed the pace and the developement of the characters. There is plenty of action to keep you interested, plus a bit of horizontal dancing to keep things interesting. I liked the state of the world and appreciated that it was one villain to focus on but a sire and his brood. Why dislike one villain when you can hate multiples? If you like vampire novels, I would recommend giving this a shot for sure.
