A great look into the backstories of Crush and Ferris and a brief chapter at the end showing the end of the royal family. I definitely have a deeper understanding of Crush and especially Ferris after this volume.

For a book titled Dream of the Lion King, this surprisingly isn't a story about Fourier so much as Crusch and Ferris.

Of the five short stories, I liked the first, fourth and fifth the most. The second and third were just okay, though they made me laugh a few times.

Not much to say, this book gives more insight into Crusch and reveals Ferris's past. Julius gets some backstory too, though nowhere near the level of Crusch and Ferris. The last story deals with the inevitable death of the royal family, my eyes were damp a few times, but I wish there'd been more focus on Fourier. Outside of the first story he barely has any scenes from his pov. Not much is learned about his family or his life outside of Crusch and Ferris. Like what was that Sage thing even about?

So this was fine but the short stories were hit or miss for me. I did like taking a break from Subaru's story and learning more about the side characters. I'm pretty excited about the next vol, seems like it will center on Wilhelm when he was younger (unless I'm mistaken? I tried to avoid spoilers).

Something odd, according to the author's afterward this came out after vol 6 in Japan, but here in America it came out after vol 5.

This volume is not part of the main series but tells a separate story about Crusch and Ferris, that happens before everything in the main Re:Zero story. In this story we learn how Crusch, Ferris and Fourier (the fourth prince of Lugunica) meet each other and become friends. We also learn how traumatic Ferris' childhood was, how horrible his parents were and how the royal family of Lugunica came to an end. Good background information for the main story.

The story starts out a bit boring for the first 133 pages but it becomes very exciting after that. It's also a very emotional story and it made me almost cry at the end. I'm happy I read it. Good story.

Comencé Ex porque tenía curiosidad por como un isekai podría hablar sobre género y resulta que no habla demasiado sobre ello pero me gusta mucho cómo Nagatsuki conduce la personalidad de Ferris y Crusch y no busca justificar que sean diferentes. Simplemente son elles mismes.

Tiene un tono muy emocional que ya se hacía notar en las novelas principales pero, aunque siempre se queda un poco corto, parece que este formato le permite ser un poco más personal y se agradece mucho.

Creo que podría haber dado para más y quizás los fragmentos de acción sobran —habria sido un slice of life increíble— pero imagino que hay que deberse al público.

Aún así, me sorprende mucho cerrar un isekai y que la única queja sea que podría dar para más. Me parece precioso el trabajo de representación del autor.

I thought this was a cute slice-of-life volume. However, I am a bit disappointed because I thought there would be more… stuff going on? Most of it was filler, and if I knew that before going on, I would have enjoyed this volume more. I was going in thinking I’d get more Crusch, but honestly she didn’t play that big of a role.

Fourier was a nice character and I love him a lot. He’s like a Natsuki Subaru with actual power and influence to do whatever he wants and I love him for that.

But where this volume really picks up is by the final chapter. I read it through the night and I cried so much. Those chapters alone made this volume worth it to read. Also, I know he wasn’t the focus, but I want more Reinhard!!!!! That is all.

A really well done series of five short stories that flesh out the story and relationship of Knight Ferri and Duchess Crusch. The middle story is exceptionally good and details Ferris' family curse and also hints at whats' happening to Subaru. I wont say more, but if you read it and think about it, the penny drops. You learn in the last story why Crusch wants to end the contract with the Kingdoms' dragon, what happened to the royal family and why she is so " hard" a character. Honestly, the last story actually brought tears to my eyes, but maybe because my ' eyes are old'.

This could've been significantly better if there were more pages dedicated to certain aspects of certain characters (like Ferris' backstory and how he ended up becoming a healer, how Crusch faced the giant rabbits and her thoughts on gender roles, and Fourier's political education) but for what it is serves as a fine backstory with some great scenes and insight into some of my favourite characters from Re:Zero.

Was expecting a poor side story volume but ended up enjoying this fantasy novel a lot. The pace is completely different from the normal Re:Zero novels. The book doesn’t have a main character, but rather 3 of them. This leads to some confusion and some poor reviews which are a bit unfair imho.
Can’t recommend this enough to all the ReZero fans!

wow, that was great. I love the characters, their relationships, the world, and the momentary disappearance of Subaru (Don't dislike the guy, but need some time away from him). it was sad, knowing the future while rooting for the prince, but a great entry in the series, highly recommended!

Doesn't solve any major misteries of the series but is good at showing Tappei's mastery in writing characters, over the course of this volume you start caring about the main characters more and more, until the end, when you're in tears even when what was going to happen was obvious.
