This is a quick read but I had a difficult time connecting to or liking any of the characters. The whole dynamic between Taylor, David and Natalie is weird and doesn't make any sense to me. Taylor is straight but he is willing to have a relationship with his best friend's new husband David. Natalie married David to help him hide that he is gay from his family and she benefits from his wealth. David is attracted to Taylor and hires him to work for him then seduces him on a work trip. This story would have been more interesting to me if instead of hinting that the marriage is a sham the author was more clear about all of the character's motives and decisions. I also dislike that Natalie and Taylor try to push David into coming out. There is a lot of potential in this book but it is never quite realized. I was given an ARC to review by the author.
I don’t get it ~ this book could have possibly had potential if the story was expanded, detailed, and put more thought into, but ... there was no character development, the relationships between any of the characters made no sense at all, no engaging storyline—I could go on and on. It almost seemed like the book was a work-in-process.
I read this book as part of an arc program. This was the story about David, a wealthy businessman who gets married to Natalie. Natalie's best friend Taylor is looking for work and when Natalie suggests David hire him as an assistant, Taylor is happy. Taylor goes on a business trip with David and when he goes to David's hotel room, David answers the door naked and offers himself to Taylor. Taylor refuses and goes back to him room. Taylor is not gay and is surprised David hit on him. When David tells him Natalie knows and is ok with it, Taylor starts to wonder. Taylor thinks David is attractive and now starts to question if he himself is gay and question all his past relationships. Taylor and David have a connection and want to further explore but things soon go wrong and they have to part. I liked this book, I liked Taylor, I liked how he really came to realize who he was and wanted to be with David. Good one.
This book didn't work for me. One of the MC's, David Eden, is quite a morally dubious character, and a strange choice to make in these "metoo" times. He deliberately hires Taylor as his assistant so as to be able to hit on him easily... (from a position of power) and then afterwards dumps Taylor with indecent haste. David is married to Taylor's best friend, Natalie, in a sham marriage to convince his father that he's straight, even though a bit later in the book David tells Taylor that he thinks his father already knows he is gay. I also heartily disliked Natalie for being so mercenary/superficial and willing to live a lie in exchange for a life of luxury. There is very little motivation for Taylor to fall in love with David. The storyline didn't feel plausible to me in the least.
I’m afraid this book didn’t work for me, it was written okay, but it just didn’t feel feasible. I did like the idea of the story it just didn’t follow through with the expectations. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. David and Taylor are the MC’s of this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
It feels rushed. As usually with these short readings, it doesn't give time to develop the characters, so you don't empathize with them. Their relationships are not understandable or believable. A very bad reading.
This is a cute short story. Finding out what was missing in your life should be a relief for Taylor. But it's not that easy. David has brought out feelings he didn't know he had and he can't have him. This book was short but very emotional. I didn't know rather to feel sorry or be mad at David. You should be able to love who you want to. I loved Taylor and how he dealt with all the changes on his life. He could have ran but he decided to take things head on. My kind of guy. I would love more of these guys.
