I can tell the author is a Cat Person Extraordinaire as her writing reflects her huge heart for the feline species. I appreciated this compact guide to kittenhood. My husband and I unexpectedly welcomed a nearly 12-week old into our home last week and I'm devouring as many cat books and instructional videos as Miss Millie will allow. She is my first kitten and my husband's first cat--we have a lot to learn!

Rainbolt's guide covers the basic steps concerning readying your home for a kitten be it by purchase, adoption, rescue, or fostering. She goes through how to introduce a kitten into your home, including introducing children and the other household pets to the newbie kitty. Topics such as the litter box, foods, water, toys, carriers, and grooming items are given ample room in the chapters.

My gratitude goes to the sections concerning medical and veterinary care. I did not realize that healthy-looking kittens are so susceptible to virus and diseases and their risks of problems can be tenuous until about 16 weeks of age. I did a lot of crying while reading about what could befall a younger kitten. I personally will rest better once Millie sees the vet at her scheduled appointment.

One topic that I hoped would be covered but is not in this particular guide is cat insurance or wellness plans.

I did find the traveling with your kitten chapter to be insightful.

Recommended for new kitty caregivers/owners!

I’m adopting a kitten soon and had looked everywhere for a comprehensive guide to foundational kitten information. I couldn’t find anything! This book had it all, and it was written in an engaging and friendly style. Highly recommend for new kitten owners.
