I've done a lot of spiritual gifts inventories in my time and read many books on the topic. I like that Bugbee aims to help readers create a "spiritual gifts profile" that includes not just discernment of your gifts, but personality style and ministry passion. He also has some really solid material here about servanthood vs servility. He clarifies attitude issues relevant to using spiritual gifts, and he is careful to define terms clearly for the reader. I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to understand their own gifts and find ways to serve.
Great book for Christians to clarify their ministry passion, personal style, and spiritual gifts. Knowing our servant profile is affirming and keeps us on track to do what we are called to do instead of spinning our wheels doing other people's jobs. Still, I have been blessed to sample all kinds of jobs at church over the past 3 decades (from dishwashing to preaching) and that kind of all-around experience was valuable in recognizing what role I'm bested suited and energized by. This book is more that the typical, quick, spiritual gifts inventory that leaders (including myself) have tried to peddle. This book takes you through a process of self-discovery. Nevertheless, there is an inventory in the appendix and other resources can be found at http://brucebugbee.com/
Bought this after listening to Fiona Macdonald of Bible Society talk about Unwrapping Your Gifts. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to be a part of the body of Christ and know how they can best serve God and function effectively as a Christian. You might want to ignore some of the Americanisms in it and not be too prescriptive about the questionnaires and quizzes in it but the questions at the end of each chapter are challenging and a good opportunity to listen to what God might be telling you to do. If you don't know Jesus then it might be useful in some way but probably not very relevant. It was good to consider personal style and what my passion is in all areas of life. Helped to understand what motivates me.
I read this book along with taking a spiritual gifts class. I found it a very easy book to read with relatable analogies and stories. This was my first introduction to spiritual gifts and the book really helps breakdown how to discover where your best place to serve God is. I loved taking the spiritual gifts assessment as well as discovering my personal servant profile. The book really emphasizes that each member of the body of Christ is unique and has a place for each of us that is our perfect fit to advance God's plan. I would recommend this to anyone that's looking to become more aware of how to serve with their unique gifts.
I read this book for a spiritual gifts seminar at my church and I'm so glad I did. With short chapters - and an overall short book- and short worksheets, I was able to truly pinpoint my passions, my personal style (structure and task-oriented), and my spiritual gifts. It's freeing and empowering to know I operate and what truly revs my engine. Highly recommended for those who enjoy personality type discovery, those who are currently serving in ministry, and those who are trying to figure out where to serve in ministry. A lot of folks at my church enjoyed it too.
This book was recommended by my church to enable people to discover the area of ministry that best suits the person. I found it affirming and enlightening. The book contains tests that were accurate in evaluating on a person by person basis the ministry fit that would help not just the person, but the local church as well. I highly recommend it.
It’s been too long and I really don't remember much of the book. Therefore, it's probably not fair to give it a rating. I put three stars to give it a middle of the road rating.
As a pastor I have tried to instruct over the years people at different phases of their spiritual growth with regard to gifting… This is a one stop shop.
