Covers topics from what the dark web is, to how it works, to how you can use it, to some of the myths surrounding it. Casting Light on the Dark A Guide for Safe Exploration is an easy-to-read and comprehensive guide to understanding how the Dark Web works and why you should be using it! Readers will be led on a tour of this elusive technology from how to download the platform for personal or public use, to how it can best be utilized for finding information. This guide busts myths and informs readers, while remaining jargon-free and entertaining. Useful for people of all levels of internet knowledge and experience.
This is an excellent intro to the Dark Web from an information professional perspective. The book offers readers a balanced description of what it is, how it originated/history, and what goes on there, paying particular attention to the value of using it for enhanced online privacy.
The book includes practical how-to information on how to access the Dark Web. Some of this may be a bit technical for the casual reader, but a huge bonus for someone who wants accurate instructions from a reliable, non-dodgy source before attempting to navigate the Dark Web.
That said, not a fast and easy read, but then again, I don't read a lot of technology writing. Maybe this is normal, but it definitely feels more like a college-level textbook in its style. Be prepared to spend time with the text.
Overall, it's a valuable resource for people interested in the Dark Web, but too cautious to just dive in on their own without any help. The history of the Internet portion is also worthwhile on its own.
Of particular interest to subversive(-ish) librarians and library science students.
