Ethan and Ava

New Adult
69K words
Ethan Jackson has had a thing for Ava Anderson longer than he cares to remember. But her brother is one of his best friends and there are rules and crap about stuff like that. But she's always there, right in front of his eyes and the wanting is only getting worse as the days go by. What, exactly, is a guy supposed to do?
Excerpt:
Ava quickly walked through the house and barricaded herself in the bathroom. Hearing the door slam shut, Ethan felt his temper rise as he followed her into the hallway and leaned against the wall, waiting for her to come out. The longer she ignored him, the more his fury grew.
She finally came out of the bathroom, still ignoring him completely. He was hot on her heels as she went inside her bedroom. He gave her no choice, he followed her inside and shut the door, leaning against it with his arms crossed.
She watched him with both anger and what looked like a tiny hint of trepidation. Shit if that didn't soothe him somewhat. But then she opened her mouth and his ire came roaring back to life. "Get out," she ordered flatly.
He shook his head, it was all he could manage without snapping at her.
Her shoulders stiffened. "Ethan. Get the hell out of my room."
Other than fisting his hands, he remained perfectly still. He felt a burning itch to move across the room to impose on her personal space, but he knew that idea would be utter insanity. He soothed himself with a biting question. "What the hell was in your head when you decided to go there tonight?"
Her eyes sharpened as her mouth flattened into a grim line. "Nothing. None of your business. Get out."
He sucked in oxygen through his teeth as he tried to calm down. "Ava. Listen to me. Ty was past irresponsible when he took y'all there—“
She cut him off with unbridled anger. "Bullshit. It was only a party."
Well hell, she wanted to cuss at him? "Bullshit? Bullshit?" he bit out. She glared at him from across the room and he felt his temperature kick up another notch as he slammed her with his opinion. "You didn't need to be there tonight. You took advantage of the fact that your parents are out of town—“
She interrupted him, the pretty lines of her face drawn into a scowl. "This doesn't concern you at all. Who the hell do you think you are to lecture me?"
Her anger only pissed him off further. "Ava—" he growled.
"You're nobody, that's who you are. Nobody who will ever have any say-so over me."
"Nobody?"
She stared at him in belligerent silence, her nostrils flaring.
He pushed off the door with a booted foot and took a single step forward, mounting rage mixing with never ending hunger making a volatile shitstorm of emotion damn near overflow. He contained it to one cutting comment. "Your brother is worthless when it comes to protecting you--"
She cut him off. "I don't need his stupid protection and I damn sure don’t need your protection and I repeat—it’s not your business." Although her anger was palpable, Ethan's gaze was drawn to her chest, which was rising and falling in agitation.
Forcing himself to get a grip, he looked into eyes that were shooting daggers at him. "I've known you since you were a little kid and if Ty won't take care of this bullshit, then you can bet your ass I will."
She clenched her teeth, looking as if she wanted to punch him. "I don't need another brother. You're not my damn brother, Ethan."
He tried to rein it in but her answer set him off. He felt a jolt of adrenaline and lowered his tone to a firmly modulated threat. "Oh, you got that goddamn straight. I'm not your brother.

Always a fan of romantic fiction, I've always been in love with the alpha-male. So in love, I've never been quite satisfied with the restrictions of series romance. I like to get into a guy's mind and have him do or say exactly what he's feeling at the moment, and sometimes I shock even myself! I consider my stories soft erotica; one man, one woman, heterosexual. But since abiding love is always the happy ending I'm looking for, my couples are always monogamous. My guy would never share his woman with anyone, and she is always enough to satisfy him. Since I believe that love starts with lust, my stories are always highly sexual, explicit in nature, and hopefully totally satisfying to my readers. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

Loved Ethan and Ava. He loves her so deeply and he is so devoted to her but getting through life can be hard work. They suffered so much but their love was strong and they overcame everything. I adored all the drama and angst. Unplanned pregnancy can be so difficult especially when you are so young as these two. They really matured and evolved and Ethan was a great family man determined to make his family happy. I was so happy that he resisted his slutty groupies and remained completely faithful to Ava. I thought Ava was going to lose her baby but I am glad I was wrong. I could not put this book down. Lynda Chance writes the best epilogues by the way. Future epilogue 18 years later with 3 kids and their son graduating was heartwarming. Safe: heroine is a virgin and hero is faithful after they get together.

3.5 stars.

I couldn't get away with the teen-aged wannabe OTT alpha crap, and Ethan was all that and then some. 🙄

But I think my biggest problem was their ages, they were just too young to be so sexually serious (if that's even the right way to say it?) I wish the author had made them even just a couple years older. I'm no prude but nope, too young for me to feel comfortable reading that.

Holy heck! Okay, wow! While this book is everything I expected from this author, it also had some angsty surprises that gutted me.

Ethan has known Ava all their lives. As his best friend’s little sister she’s always been right there in front of him. That also means when she begins to grow up and becomes a woman…she is right there in front of him. And he doesn’t miss a single thing. After fighting against his desires for so long, he finally makes his move.

description

Ava has had a huge crush on Ethan forever and when he finally takes a step towards her, she’s so very ready. But life can tend to get complicated and such is the case when it comes to Ethan and Ava’s relationship. They have a lot of things going against them but if they hold strong together and stick to their plans they can find their happy ever after. But again…life is complicated.

They had a long road ahead of them to get there, but he was single-minded – hell bent even – in his determination to achieve the life he wanted for them. Everything else was just details.

I absolutely LOVE Ethan. He is everything I adore in a hero. Fierce and determined in his need to claim his woman. Protective, jealous – even when not necessary, and strong enough to face their troubles without giving into them. His desire for Ava couldn’t have been more clearly shown. He could only fight it for so long before he takes what he was always afraid of never getting even a taste of.

description

While Ava’s character was a little less developed, she is the one that most of the angst revolves around. Her issues with her family had me on the edge of my seat so many times. I mean, really. Her mother was like psycho-mom and I never did trust her.

I’ve loved everything that this author writes because she knows exactly how I want my hero. Even if there are parts that might drive a reader crazy, it’s ultimately the hero that will keep you coming back for more. After all, she’s the queen of alpha heroes for a reason. They are just soo good and Ethan reminded me of that fact.

Ethan loved her with a single-minded devotion that brooked no resistance.

description

This is a fast read and holy heck the chemistry is sizzling. As in, I-hope-no-one-sees-my-red-cheeks-and-quickened-breathing sizzling. The angst is pretty high here but not outrageously so and almost all of it is due to outside forces. We have some great views of Josh and Hannah and what I hope is the foundation for Ty’s story. There’s a reason he went to Houston and I know who choose that town to live in.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is addicted to a ferocious, all consuming alpha hero. Every woman needs an Ethan in their life!

Unusual story for LC that usually writes about older alpha obsessed men and younger feisty heroines.
It has the same vibes as her other books, that is a very strong chemistry and a great sexual tension through all the book, but the plot is different.
Ava and Ethan are teenagers.
He’s her brother’s bff and has been attracted to her since forever.
He’s only two years older but until she’s 15 he tries to deny the attraction and dates girls as old as him.
This means that he has sex with ows.
Actually it didn’t bother me so much because poor heroine w as basically a child so it would have been annoying if he tried to seduce her at 14.
Since she’s 15 he’s been celibate because has understood that he can’t fight what he feels for her and when she’s 16 they finally start dating.
Then just when he’s going to college, she gets pregnant.
And the problems start.
Basically there are no issue concerning their relationship because after he surrenders and makes their relationship official, they are completely devoted and faithful to each other with a maturity that somehow is surprising.
Even in the end when some college groupies try to mess with them, the heroine shows a complete trust towards the hero, never believing the nasty girls that told her that he was having fun with half the college girls.
That was good.
The drama and angst come from her parents that refuse to accept her pregnancy especially her mother who even tries to make her have a termination by deceiving her. It was painful and nasty.
All is well- not all exactly but all that matters for our couple- in the end, and they manage to get married and have a happy life and a nice family as they always dreamed of.
So, what I mostly appreciated here:
- the chemistry. Veeery veeery good, and I must admit that the author did a very good job because the sex between them was just what you expect from a couple of teenagers.
No nasty things or unlikely kinky attitudes that one don’t expect by two young people that are also deeply in love for the first time in their life.
The best moments are when he touches her thigh for the first time in a bar while their friends are quarreling- first as a reassurance then as a forbidden pleasure , and their first time, not planned and very very hot.
- the realistic ways describing how they find out she’s pregnant, their mental processes, and the reaction of their families, very different since his family is supportive and caring while her family is hostile and angry, especially the mother from hell.
It’s a simple plot but very well done and very angsty especially after the hero leaves for college and her mother abuses the heroine psychologically for months until the poor girl leaves risking her life and her child’s- doing something very stupid but very believable for a teenager without any familiar support.
I know it may seem not much but it takes some talent to describe this situation- very frequent and very common- with such accuracy both psychological and emotional.
I really appreciate the whole book and I loved both characters- the heroine was so young but still brave and strong, think about how a 17 yo would feel if her parents pushed her to get rid of her child in one way or another, and the hero was brave and very moving in his desire to be a father and a husband to her, he was waiting for her to be 18 then he would marry her and make her his, so she would be under his care, so young yet so determined. I also liked the difference between the two families, that I think it’s something that can happen very often.
I’m not ashamed of admitting that I sniffed and sobbed more than once.

"I love you too, Ava." Wrapping his hands around her face, he leaned in, his lips barely brushing hers as he spoke. "And I'm going to love you 'til the day I die. Nothing can ever change that; no force in the universe will take you away from me. I won't allow it."

"Ethan and Ava" is their story..AND IT'S FINALLY HERE!

Firstly, I'm going to put this out there. THIS IS A BIASED REVIEW, because
-Lynda Chance is in my top 5 all time favorite authors
-I've read most of her books over 50 times
-The Redwood Falls continues to be one of my beloved YA/adult erotica series which has again seen multiple rereads in the time I've waited for this book.

So, we finally have Ethan and Ava's story.
We know Ava is Ty's sister, Hannah's best friend; Ethan is Ty's best friend. We know both of them have been obsessed with each other for a while now.
The book revisits all our favorite moments/glimpses of this couple from the previous books- the scene when Ethan sees Ava in her bra and loses it, the party scene mentioned in Josh's book, the diner scene, the kiss in the locker. We now get more insight into their world.

Ethan and Ava cannot stop wanting each other, but things are not that simple. She is Ty's sister, and he cannot break the bro code. Hence . However, seeing her in the bra and panties at 16 triggers a chemical reaction, finally making him claim Ava. Thus begin another sweet romance in Redwood Falls, which everyone soon comes to know and accept. Initially just enjoying heavy petting, soon they embark on passionate meeting of bodies and souls, confessing their love for one another.

But Ethan has always had big plans. Wanting to escape the farm life he grew up in, he stands a chance of getting a prestigious football scholarship, something that would get him out of his small town. But then, Ava misses her period, and all hell breaks loose..

The book then shifts to being a sweet love story where MC's deal with a teenage pregnancy, while trying to tackle studies and families, as well as their own insecurities. Soon tragedy follows, but will their love triumph?

So being honest- was this the best LC book? No. Was this even the best in RF? Nope. But this provided resolution to a long running series with characters who were introduced in bits and pieces in the previous books, and finally found their HEA in this one. The first half of the book is a little weak and repetitive, but the second half provides the savage angsty punch that the author is a master in, with a nice sliver of heartbreak; and you also get an insanely obsessed hero who would do anything for his heroine, and that just makes up for a lot!

Saccharine heartwarming epilogue!

" Ethan had tried every freaking thing he could think of to not be so damn aware of her. He'd tried other girls, shit, lots of 'em. He and Josh and Ty were always trolling for chicks, and while it had passed the time, it hadn't done Ethan a bit of good. Every freaking girl he'd slept with had one face. Ava's. Every time he'd pushed into a girl, he'd had to grit his teeth while he promised himself that someday, some way, he'd have the girl he really wanted.

Nope, it hadn't done a damn bit of good to screw other girls...."

I am finally able to tick off one (out of two) of the most awaited, anticipated and beloved stories of my reader LIFE!
and ya know this life mostly consists of waiting but this story has been my most awaited
I haven't forgotten this.

And now..

I have it.
Ethan and Ava!

My beloved characters.

I mean.. I am so damn lucky and persistence pays off because Lynda remembered me from all my constant bothering and badgering her for these two.

And they were every bit oh so sweet!

Oh girls get ready GET READY to go back to Redwood Falls and meet these two beautiful loves. And also Josh and Hanna haha!

I loved the story. Held such sentimental value to me and that may or may not have clouded my judgement and review. Well sue me but this baby was perfect to me.

Two small town teenagers have the hots for each other and inevitably get pregnant, causing all sorts of anguish between themselves and their families. The purple prose was epic in this one to the point of making the story unintentionally comical, at least for this reader :) However this is the style for this author so if you are already a fan of hers, you will probably enjoy it. If you are not familiar with her OTT ways, fasten your seatbelt!

I waited a long time for Lynda Chance to release another book. This is the longest she has waited between books. I have to say the sex scenes in this story were beyond smoking! Wow, I was blown away about how freak'n hot they were. Lynda Chance has outdone herself. My only complaint is that I really did feel Ava's life was ruined by getting pregnant so early. We never heard about her finishing high school, going to college, or having a career. Plus, what happened to her family was a result of the pregnancy. There was so much crying and sadness in this story. Even when it ended, I didn't feel happy. Nevertheless, Lynda Chance has ruined men for me since her heroes are so perfect. Her heroes are extremely possessive, obsessive, jealous, and protective of their love interests. I wish the next book would feature adults, bc they are too many constraints when writing about kids. Hopefully, we won't have to wait as long as Chance's next book.

This surpassed every expectation I had and was worth the wait. Lynda chance have everything I wanted and then some!

ALL THE MEGA STARS!!

I’m a HUGE fan of an unapologetic, OTT, and possessive alphas and Lynda Chance fits that bill perfectly. EVERY TIME! So any time she releases I am over the moon and when it’s a release that’s your favorite YA series?

We meet Ethan Jackson and Ava Anderson in the first book of the series Josh and Hannah as their best friends. Ethan epitomizes the perfect alpha to our brave and strong heroine, Ava. When they are faced with life altering challenges, Ethan does not let his girl down. He steps up and I couldn’t love him more. When he realizes despite everything It’s always been Ava for him, he commits and falls even harder.

"He'd always had it bad for Ava Anderson. Damn bad. His entire life had always revolved around her."

“I love you too, Ava.” Wrapping his hands around her face, he leaned in, his lips barely brushing hers as he spoke. “And I’m going to love you ‘til the day I die. Nothing can ever change that; no force in the universe will take you away from me. I won’t allow it.” With another push of his hips, he was seated deep inside her, the only place he wanted to be. “And when I die, your name will be the last breath from my lips.
And with that, he took the kiss he was dying for.

"He kissed her for all he was worth; he kissed her for the man he’d become and for the boy who’d yearned so fiercely for something he didn’t think he could ever have.

From the main and secondary characters to the plot and romance, this was everything and I absolutely adored this books.

This is the fourth book in the Redwood Falls Series but it could definitely be read as a stand alone list like the rest.

It’s been a long time coming this book from one of my favourite authors, and while the chemistry and sexual tension between Ethan and Ava was hot and passionate. I just found it hard to believe this was about two teenagers still in high school.
It also contained one of my pet peeves, when the leading man cannot for whatever reason have the h he has sex with a load of other girls that’s really annoying, ( although to be fair this was not gone into great depth, but it was there) also more annoying is while the h remains a Virgin.

So the largest chunk of the story is all about the pent up lust and wanting on both their parts but more so Ethan.

Then nearer the end it’s all action with loads happening some of it was a bit much, Ava’s mother was a real crazy person. Overall large parts of this would have worked more for me had the two main characters had been older.

I don’t say this lightly because I’m a huge Lynda Chance fan but I’m really disappointed in this book. I wish this was a single, female POV book rather than a dual POV one. Too much page time was given to Ethan’s thoughts, I found it to be repetitive. There are too many time leaps. They kiss then we are told a couple of months have passed and suddenly they’re in love. We don’t get to read about the relationship development at all. It’s more tell then show. In the first book and even in this one it is mentioned they have a volatile relationship yet we don’t get to see any of it. They don’t get much page time together. There are very few conversations in the book between the couple. Plus the conflict with Ava’s mom was resolved so abruptly it didn’t make any sense. I really hope the next book by Lynda Chance is better.

I was interested the most with Ethan and Ava's story after reading Josh and Hannah. Sadly, the Anderson's (Ava's) family drama took so much space that it nearly overshadowed the MCs.

Okay, I know that the family plays a big role in teenage pregnancy BUT I also wanted to see how it would affect the MCs' relationship especially when H left for college. The family drama was shown but most of the MCs' relationship was told.

Also, the retelling of Josh+Hannah moments was a bit too much for this very limited, short book. I love them and I would've been fine with it IF it didn't seem like H/h are the side characters every time a Josh+Hannah moment was retold.
And then, the MCs relationship was rushed without enough couple time. 🙁

H: 4 stars
h: 4 stars
H/h as a couple: 5 stars
Story: 5 stars
Execution: 1 star

▪️ Some wannabe-OW drama.
H's dorm mate's fbuddy caused drama, but it was handled quickly.
NO cheating. 💯 faithful. 😊
▪️ Unplanned teen pregnancy, h.
▪️ Premature birth.
▪️ Death, off page.
h's dad (car accident).
▪️ Explicit scenes H/h only.
There are 2 dorm scenes where H walked in and saw his dorm mate with multiple girls. H got angry and walked out, and on the next scene H also walked out after he punched his dorm mate and kicked the girls out of their dorm.

This was an ARC and i couldn’t have been happier for the trust. I have read all of her books as well and one of the things I love the most is that her alpha’s are tough possessive men, that take care of their girls. Ethan was no exception. We learned a bit of Ethan and Ava from the first book in the series, given that Ethan was one of Josh’s best friends and Hannah was Avas. I was excited because it had been a couple years since i have wanted to know their story and i was not disappointed one bit. Lynda was able to bring forth a great romance story in their shoes as “high-schoolers” and at the same time show their growth and maturity as the story developed. Another thing that absolutely adore (and believe me, you would think its common sense) but she has maintained consistency throughout all 4 books in this series between timeline and characters. If there is something i hate when I read a book in a series is inconsistency and timeline being completely off, so kuddos for that one. I also enjoyed being able to see part of the other characters and what i hope is a hint for a new story and that is Ty’s book. Not to mention that her epilogues are the best. She give us a happy ending plus what their life is like years down the road with lots of realistic points of views and without making it cheesy. I don’t know honestly i can keep going on and on about how much i loved it but seriously i did and it would take a page if i continue.

It was my pleasure that had time to read a book from an author I’ve been faithful to since I read her first book in 2011.
Lynda has been writing the alpha processive males that make your kindle steam up. So, when I saw a new book after a large time gap, I had to have it.
Finally, I fitted it in between reading ARCs and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
We met Ava and Ethan in Hannah and Josh’s book and I also wondered what had happened to them. This book picks up right from when Ethan starts looking and best friends’ sister in a sexual way and I finally find out what happened.
Even though we meet Ethan at a young age he shows all the traits Lynda males ate famous for.
It was a pleasure to visit Redwood Falls again and meet up with some of my favourite book friends.

I found this story to be bittersweet. Ava and Ethan go through so much for such a young couple. There are some really tough times for them. There was more angst than I thought there would be. It’s great to have Lynda back!

Okay book.

I was hoping that there story would be similar to Hannah and Josh relationship. But the there relationship was great and they both had great chemistry. I love that Ethan really stood by her side through it all. I also like how so many times he wanted to be a baby but he kept it together for Ava. Ethan’s and Hannah’s parents were great. I love how both couples always showed so much love for each other. And Ethan and Ava were able witness that love. Especially Ava because it seem like her mother was an uptight woman who probably didn’t show affection to her husband. Overall the book was a good read.

i just know i will finish devouring this book tonight, thus, an advance goodreads log (somewhat unusual for me) but i need to vent, and this feels like the perfect opportunity.

at the time of writing this review, i am at 53% percent of the book, however, you better believe that it is a 5 stars and nothing (okay, maybe cheating which i know will not happen) can change the fact. i first read the first book of this series, Josh and Hannah, somewhat 4-5 years ago; when i was meagrely a teenager myself. the feelings that novel evoked in me is still something i keep being in the quest for even now. i like to think i am a prolific romance reader, i was at least in my teens, but the years have sharpened my taste and i, more often than not, find myself disregarding romantic fiction. the ones i read (read: devoured) in my teens still hold the candle, and there have only been a few in the coming years (i can count them in one hand) that surpassed the mark.

i digress, but while i was reading Josh and Hannah in those naive times, i was immediately gripped by the secondary characters in that novel. Ethan and Ava. their chemistry was just so perfect, stomach-curling, that i kept hoping for more of their parts in the story than i did of the primary characters. do not get me wrong, i loved the first book, i still hold it dear in my romance-craved section of psyche, but Ethan and Ava were the bar for me and i had been longing (in capital) for their story to make way. and it did, long years later, when i did not have the willpower to invest. saying that Ethan and Ava was one of my most anticipated reads would be an understatement, but i waited for this book in a daze and when it finally came, i was in such a state that i could not afford reading a book i knew i would adore with my heart. as vague as it sounds.

now, fast forward a few years, i am at long last reading this book and it is amazing. romantic, captivating, angsty, tension-filled... everything i love and better in a romance. but i am so mad, so disappointed. lynda chance is a great author no doubt, but i figure she prioritized these characters far less than she did the others. i could do with so much more of this book, i could read 600 pages of Ethan and Ava, but unfortunately, the settle was for only a couple hundred pages. plenty was missed in this novel, i almost believe that the author showed more of their story (especially their post-relationship chemistry) in the first book than she did in theirs. i wanted to know more of their dates, i wanted to know about the fights they had, their fleeting moments. but all i received was an accelerating plotline that had serious potential to expand and explore.

do not get me wrong (again), the narrative that i am getting at present is also deliciously good, but i wanted more. so so much more.

anyway, thanks for taking a peek at my rant. it might land over the top of your head but i needed to push it out.

bye,
x
