Age of Union is a compelling guide for igniting today's changemaker. Grounded in four pillars—leadership, culture, spirituality, and nature—the book advocates that the time for change is now and that our choices are the catalyst.
Dax Dasilva, a leading tech CEO, arts entrepreneur and LGBTQ ambassador, shares his experience and present observations to ignite a movement of unseparation, a united front across all people, cultures, and living things.
Helping entrepreneurs become leaders in their communities through Lightspeed's technology and elevating artists through his work at Never Apart are fundamental to Dasilva's philosophy. He fosters cultures of innovation, promotes diverse leadership, and values different viewpoints.
Here, he presents his model for the new changemaker, for the leader in all of us, to find purpose in collectively contributing to a better tomorrow, and give rise to an age of union.
Dax Dasilva is a global tech leader, environmental activist, and author, most well-known as the founder of Lightspeed Commerce Inc. and Age of Union. Dasilva founded Lightspeed in 2005 as a POS software, which has evolved today into a one-stop commerce platform for retail, hospitality, and golf merchants in over 100 countries. In 2019, Dasilva released his debut book, Age of Union, as a compelling guide for igniting today's changemaker. This would later inspire Dasilva’s non-profit environmental alliance, Age of Union, which is committed to uniting humanity with nature through conservation efforts, film, and immersive experiences.
This alliance launched in October 2021 with Dasilva’s initial pledge of $40 million towards conservation efforts that help solve critical environmental challenges around the world and inspire high-impact change by showing the positive impact that every individual can make. Since then, Age of Union has successfully protected and restored threatened biodiverse ecosystems in Canada, Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Peru, Haiti, Trinidad, and West African waters, while also protecting important species such as leatherback turtles, orangutans, dolphins, lowland gorillas, and much more.
Age of Union has also produced an array of short independent documentaries, including The Heart of a Mission, We Are the Saint Lawrence River, CAUGHT, and The Corridor. Shortly after, the alliance launched the short YouTube film series On the Frontline. As an acclaimed executive producer, Dasilva was honoured with a 2023 Emmy award for his contribution to Wildcat. He continues to work on international film projects with renowned figures in the industry.
In 2025, Dasilva will release his second book, Echoes from Eden, which chronicles his voyage to some of the world’s vanishing frontiers where he joins forces with legendary conservationists like Dr. Jane Goodall in a rallying cry for environmental stewardship.
This hook should be mandatory to read in high school. Dax has extremely inspiring ideas and shares a philosophy that if more people adopts, the world would be a better place.
I'm disappointed by this book. I believe the thesis carried out here is essential, and resonated with me. However, the verbose and dull writing style gets in the way.
The last chapter where Dax lays out 40 practical ways through which we can bring about this "Age of Union" was the one that I preferred the most. I also enjoyed learning about Dax's upbringing and background.
Check it out, but prepare yourself for some long dry passages (skip those).
This is a wonderful book. We know we need unity to bridge the divisions that impede peace. We know also the urgency of safeguarding the planet's ecosystem. The book focuses on the fundamentals of our existence : Spirit, community and nature, revealing how these are intimately related.
The author's view of spirituality is refreshingly inclusive, intrinsic, accessible and grounded. It begins with connecting to soul and spirit (the wellspring of purpose, love and inspiration), but finds its expression in service and unity, as all authentic spirituality does.
We have heard much of ''the power of intention'' and many testimonials about it, but this is usually directed to acquiring personal wealth, etc. The author gives us an expanded view of the possibility of this force, proposing that we use it to foster unity - so greatly needed. Thus, having the intention of unity (a ''will-to-unity'') as a motivating factor in our daily lives will help catalyse and accelerate world unity.
The spiritual foundation presented in the first half of the book culminates in the second half with a focus on the concrete challenges facing humanity. After expanding our vision of who we are and our interconnectedness, the author now draws our attention and conscience to the suffering of animals and the harm to nature we have done, which cannot be separated anymore from ourselves. These are the issues that matter.
The author call us to compassion, responsibility and leadership - to hold the vision of unity while acting right where we are. We are encouraged to reach out to other like-minded people and together make a difference. We are inspired to step up.
We are fortunate to be the beneficiaries of this excellent blueprint for personal growth and service. The author has clearly given us his best - the fruits of his spiritual journey and the wisdom of his experience. He is that rare visionary with his feet on the ground, bringing what is highest to where it is most needed (now more than ever). And he walks the talk by freely giving it to us. We can reciprocate by also living what it teaches and sharing it with others.
After having read books from Yuval Noah Harari, Jared Diamond, George Monbiot, Douglas Rushkoff, Age of the Union provides very practical guidelines that individuals can implement on a daily basis to improve their lives and lives of others to live in harmony with nature and our environment. This book is very timely narrative as we live through this pandemic. It’s time to pause and reflect as we live through this catastrophe. How we behave after the pandemic will shape how long we will be to live on this planet and avoid future pandemics and national disasters. We are all one with nature, let’s behave differently!
A Canadian author! The book is gorgeous with its orange tone. It has about a handful of photos as well. It's really amazing to see a tech entrepreneur championing the spiritual aspects of life and urging us to lead with more integrity, heart and consciousness. Despite Dasilva coming from a Jewish background, I found his philosophy approachable and accessible for all. A beautiful rendition and a call for all of us to ignite change in our own beautiful and unique way.
The editing could have been better, but generally I SO resonate with DaSilva's ideas! I actually didn't learn so much from the book because these ideas have already unfolded in myself in a very similar way - I loved reading about this common vision. However, the leadership part was new for me, and just what I need at this time, and I'm very thankful for that.
A beautiful book of inspiration for change-makers and all who believe by coming together we have the power to heal ourselves, our communities, the environment and the world.
