Fandom: Once Upon a Time (TV) Relationship: Regina Mills/Emma Swan -------------------------------------------------- emma swan doesn’t seem like the kind of person you’d leave in charge of your kids, but somehow she’s landed the job of nannying the mayor’s son. no matter her rebellious streak, she’s more than a little concerned that she’s breaking the cardinal rule of nannydom: do not, do not, start sleeping with your employer.
When I saw Joc’s review of a million tiny little things come by on my Goodreads feed I was like “oh yeah, that was such a great story! I need to read that again.”
foxbones is one of my favorite Swan Queen authors even if she only wrote 5 stories for that fandom. I remember there was some big kerfuffle when she pulled all her work off AO3 (she was in the midst of writing step into my office, baby) as the result of some unpleasantness. I really mourned the loss, but fortunately the author had a change of heart and came back.
Summary: Emma Swan doesn’t seem like the kind of person you’d leave in charge of your kids, but somehow she’s landed the job of nannying the mayor’s son. No matter her rebellious streak, she’s more than a little concerned that she’s breaking the cardinal rule of nannydom: do not, do not, start sleeping with your employer.
a million tiny little things is a romcom Swan Queen AU with buckets of humor. I love the way she writes her characters and how they interact. For example the relationship between Emma and Henry is superb. And the relationship between Emma and Regina is smoldering hot. Like Joc mentioned, foxbones writes non explicit sexy times but you still have a very good idea where ‘Abraham gets the mustard’, as it were.
If you love Emma and Regina and somehow you haven’t read this, I would dally no more and add it to your to-read pile.

Themes: Cora is a delightful character, clutching her pearls, this Emma is pure gold, there is a nice juicy part for Ruby, ninja nanny, lots of romcom tropes, pure fun.

This one has only gotten better with time. One of the very few Swan Queen stories where I absolutely love Henry in it.
Re-Read #1: Aug 2019. Yeah, I know I read for the first time only 6 months ago. What can I say I needed a comfort read. Upping it to a full 5 stars. I like it too much not to. Its funny and heartwarming. Excellent characterizations. I even liked Cora(!). I liked it when Regina and Cora would argue in Spanish. Henry made me laugh. I love, love Foxbone's Chapter titles. I loved this fic more the second time around.
And this paragraph: She was not supposed to be a nanny, or a babysitter, or a person put in charge of children at all. She was not supposed to fall in love with the mayor of Brooke City, or find a fifth grade partner in crime, or get the happy ending. That was never part of Emma Swan’s plan. Not that plans have ever been her strong suit.
*********** Feb. 2019 review 3.5 Stars for this Rom-Com Once Upon a Time AU story. There is no magic. Regina is the mayor of a large city and she meets Emma at her gym where Emma is a personal fitness and self-defense trainer. Regina hires Emma as a bodyguard for her son, 10 yr old Henry. In reality Emma is more his nanny. I thought it was strange that the writer didn’t have Emma pick him up from school. Anyway, Regina pays her well and she is still able to teach her classes.
I loved the relationship that Emma has with Henry. It’s fun and teasing. The story is filled with warmth and well written humor. Slowly, eventually Emma ends up a live-in Nanny while a slow burn romance develops with Regina.
I really liked the longer length of this fully developed story. This will be a comfort re-read for sure.
Shortly after Regina joins Emma's martial arts class at the gym she offers her a job as her son's bodyguard and homework assistant. Emma accepts because the job won't interfere with her classes. Being a nanny might not be her forte.
It's fun and light with good characterisations of both Regina and Emma. Ruby, however, was the most entertaining of the lot.
Foxbones has become one of my favorite fanfiction authors. I found myself in a reading slump recently and I found this to be the perfect cure for that. I knew it was going to be great and it was.
