Scott Ivie is finally learning what it means to be part of a family. In fact, he has merged so perfectly into the Hamilton family that he almost feels he was destined to be living and working with them in Australia. After all, it was Jess Hamilton who first introduced Scott to the gospel.
But when Jess's younger sister Emma returns from her mission early because of a health problem, she is less than pleased to see the good-looking stranger sitting at the family dinner table.
Facing a life-threatening crisis, Emma has far more important things to worry about than a gold-digging American-even if she is attracted to him. Could there be more to Scott than Emma can possibly see right now? Best-selling author Anita Stansfield once again delivers a compelling story of family unity, faith, and the miracles that can come through the power of the gospel
Anita Stansfield, the LDS market's #1 best-selling romance novelist, is an imaginative and prolific writer whose romantic stories have captivated her readers.
"With sales approaching a half million, Anita Stansfield has clearly found a niche in this market," said Nicole Martin, Publicist for Covenant Communications. "Her popularity stems from her ability to empathize with and write about the issues that LDS women deal with on a daily basis."
"I always write for women like me. It's through my interaction with other women that I've found there are some personal and emotional struggles that are typical," said Anita Stansfield. "I hope my writing makes women feel better about themselves and shows them these real problems can be solved through gospel principles."
This is my favourite book of the series. I really liked how we were able to see from Emma's perspective (though it felt like the majority of the book was told from Scott's viewpoint) and learn more about her as a member of the Hamilton family, as I don't feel like we really got to know her much previously. I loved the way that Scott was drawn into the family . . . primarily not because of his own need, but the need of the Hamilton family. I love that he came to play a vital role in their lives. While I didn't 'love' it, per se, the storyline of Emma's chronic illness rang with truth and poignancy to me. I know I've felt some of the same things and had similar thought processes as she did, even though my own illness began after my marriage. I love that the theme of God's miracles was woven through the entire story. And it wasn't just an implied theme. Each time someone would say 'it's a miracle', my heart thrilled. It reminded me very much of Sarah McLachlan's song 'Ordinary Miracle', in which all the wonderful, beautiful things that God has given us are stated as the miracles they are. Note that this book is written from a Latter-day Saint worldview, which, while interesting to me personally, may not be interesting to all. 4.5 stars
#5 in the Gables of Legacy series, again I loved the story. The continuation of the characters building within the series has been one of my favorite things in this series. This story is based on Emma, the youngest of the family, who is going on her mission but is facing a life-threatening issue that she's afraid to let anyone know about. When she realizes the man she cannot stop thinking about is now living in her family's home in Australia, she decides she hates everything about him, her life and this awful circumstance she's been placed under. Can Scott Ivie change her mind in time to do something about it?
Once again, I loved the story, however the religious undertones of the book are very strong, so if you are not a fan of reading about that, then this isn't the book for you.
I love this series so hard. The setting really gets me. It is truly another character and I'd love to live there. I feel connected to it. Australia, horses, Victorian home--all of it. I want it. This story is really kind of predictable. It is convenient too. How lucky for all of them. If life worked out like that we'd all be sittin' pretty. Even as much as I love it and the character's I'm not much of an insta love kind of girl. I'd rather they were really great friends first. Or actually dated longer than one date before they got engaged. But, I liked the story even with those things. I wish author Anita Stansfield would resurrect this series and write more. I'd read 'em!
By far, my favorite of the series..at least so far. I have one left to read but I really enjoyed this one especially because you can really personalize it to yourself and your situation. It has some great LDS topics and themes outlined through-out the book that I really enjoyed, especially over coming trials and looking for the good throughout them. It also had a great romance story that yeah, was a little cheesy, but let's face it what else are you going to get with an LDS author. I really liked it.
This was another volume in the Gables of Legacy series. It tied in nicely with the previous books, but for me the story was not as compelling as the previous books. The Hamilton Family continue to have their share of family trials and learning to cope with them as they rely on each other and their love of the gospel and the peace it can bring. It seems they have more on their plates than most of us do, but then maybe there wouldn't be a story to tell if they didn't. I'm not sure it is very realistic in our lives today to have so many possible life threatening episodes.
My mom suggested I read these books from the church library and they couldn't have been more amazing and I'd recommend them to anyone. I tear up in every book and this one was the perfect conclusion to this five part series, you will fall in love with the Hamilton Family!!!
This is one of my favorites in the series - it's probably the romance :). I like that Anita Stansfield makes these books individual stories. I don't get all stressed out waiting for the next book to come out, because they are complete stories in themselves.
This one kind of seemed like she just flipped the same story as Jess and Tamra around a little to Emma and Scott. Don't get me wrong it was still a good book, there were just a lot of similarities between Tamra and Scott, almost the same story just different names.
I think this is my favorite book of this series. The Hamilton Family is amazingly wonderful and they are lucky to have someone like Scott Ivie join the family!
