This is the story of a farm boy trying to win the love of Hilary. After much patience and heartache it seems obvious that love will blossom, when tragedy strikes. Will it tear them apart, or will they be able to have the courage to start over?
Anita Stansfield, the LDS market's #1 best-selling romance novelist, is an imaginative and prolific writer whose romantic stories have captivated her readers.
"With sales approaching a half million, Anita Stansfield has clearly found a niche in this market," said Nicole Martin, Publicist for Covenant Communications. "Her popularity stems from her ability to empathize with and write about the issues that LDS women deal with on a daily basis."
"I always write for women like me. It's through my interaction with other women that I've found there are some personal and emotional struggles that are typical," said Anita Stansfield. "I hope my writing makes women feel better about themselves and shows them these real problems can be solved through gospel principles."
I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could. Liked this book the best of all of Stansfield's that I've read. This one I would not let my teenage sister read because I think it has things that are a little more adult, but I would still classify this as a clean read.
Good love story, though it's not a typical happy ever after kind of story no matter how much you want it to be. It's too real for that and maybe that is what makes it something you can relate to rather than something to dream about.
This book is about a girl named Hillary Smith who has recently lost her older brother and a close friend of her brother, Jack Hayden. Hillary was bound and determined not to fall in love with Jack for many reasons. Some of these reasons include his annoying Texas accent, his cowboy wardrobe, that annoying toothpick that’s always in his mouth, but most of all, Jack reminds her of the loving brother she missed so much. Jack loves Hillary more than what words can explain, but she wants nothing to do with him. With a little bit of time together, Hillary is realizing she is starting to have feelings for Jack, but tries to dismiss them. After Hillary gets a mission call to Bulgaria, Jack gets married to one of Hillary’s old roommates from BYU, Lorie Walker. They got divorced early in the marriage for many reasons. Hillary gets back from her mission and jack can’t wait to see her once again! It has been 18 months since the last time they've seen each other. After some time being home from her mission, Jack proposes to Hillary. A horrible accident strikes the two of them right before their wedding that leaves them relying on themselves, each other and their faith in God. I totally recommend this book for girls ten and up. It teaches you amazing life lessons that are definitely going to help me in the future. Life lessons such as counting your blessings, not taking things for granted, loving one another, and self reliance. If you are looking for a heartwarming book that will make you laugh and cry at the same time, this is the book for you. I fell in love with the characters right away and I hope you will too! I would rate this book 9-10 because I feel like I feel like it kept repeating some things, but besides that I loved it! I liked how the author tied in great life lessons for the readers. I loved how the author wrote the story. everything about it was really good. If you have read books by Jack Weyland such as Charley, Sam, or Saving Kristen Boone, you would love this.
This one was hard to read. The very beginning I was hooked on the characters and the setting. As love bloomed I was giddy and excited. When tragedy struck, I was devistated. Even to me, I find it kind of funny (once I'm done reading a book) that a book can have such an impact on me. Anita Stansfield weaves a good tale and no matter the circumstances in her books I always fall prey to some unwanted emotion. I admired the dedication of love that was completely evident in this book and I loved the power of self confidence. It was amazing to see/read the transformation that can happen when one believes in oneself.
I loved this story so much! Anita's Characters are always amazing, you can't help but fall in love with them. And Hilary and Jack are no different. Hilary is so strong and I must admit that I have a huge crush on Jack.
The only negative thing about this book is something I have noticed in most of Anita's stories. She tends to repeat thought processes and frames of mind to the point where you just start skipping over paragraphs when a character is thinking about something. Their thought are often very redundant. But, even with all that, her stories are still amazing and I have loved reading them.
There were times in this book that it took me forever to get through. It would start out pretty good and then it would crumble. And then there would be hope, and then it would get worse. It felt like it kept doing that, just up and down with happenings all around the characters and about the characters. But the thing is, that is what life is all about. I felt frustrated when Hilary just could make up her mind of what she already knew in her heart. She was just too afraid to admit it. I enjoyed this book with hope-filled joy and the possibility of finding true love and happiness!
This is a good story, but incredibly long. I thought it could have been split into two different books because half-way through, I thought the story ended so nicely that the rest of the book felt a little like a drag. It was just too much for one book in my opinion. However, the story is good and being Stansfield, it's pretty well written.
Oh! I love it so much! I love the characters and everything!! AHHHH! :D The struggles were so hard for them! I really thought sometimes things were just like BAM BAM BAM bad things all over the place and the happy moments were very scarce. The romance was great. Sometimes I felt it really just drug on and on and I was like FINISH IT ALREADY! but hey it was good :P. P.S. I love Erin :)
I'm not much for romance novels, but this one was decent. It shows how a couple fell in love, married, had a lot of difficulties, but were able to work them out by being patient with one another and living the teachings of Jesus Christ.
This book shows how people come through very, very hard trials and become better people. I have read many more of her books in the last year. They are uplifting and always have people in them that are having trials and how they overcome them.
I was very touched by the empathy that Hilary had for Jack in this book. It reminded me of how I want to be with my husband in our marriage. If you decide to read any of Anita's books, this is definitely the one. VERY good read!
When Hilary Smith and Jack Hayden finally set the date, I was hoping for the "happily ever after" ending. Not to be. Before they even make it to the altar, devastation has to set in. I think the story was strengthened by the deep and unconditional love between these two.
Once again best-selling author Anita Stansfield has captured a powerful and deeply romantic story that touches the human spirit and magically captures glimpses of eternity. It is a drama that will linger in your mind and heart long after the final page is turned.
I agree that her books tend to be a bit sappy, and more often than not, everyone lives happily ever after. Yet-book after book, character after character I always come away with a deeper understanding of what she tries to teach about gospel principles through the lives of the characters.
Loved the storyline and it had me captivated but I wouldn't list it as a clean read as I had problems with language In it and certain topics in it. I emailed author my thoughts and tried being respectful but she got ugly. I haven't read her books since
I've read nearly all the Anita Stansfield books this summer except for those in a series. In the beginning, I read to study her style but ended up not being able to put her books down.
