The Second Reformatin lovingly, yet firmly challenges us to evaluate the church today. This book deals with hard questions that many of us have wrestled with for years.
This gives insight into the cell church as well as the cathedral model that most churches today follow. Makes one really aware of how the early Christian church function as compared to the model that present in this day and time. Makes one really think about why we're doing church like we are today.
I did it: I judged a book by its cover (I always do). And this time I was really disappointed. I love the cover. The book, however, was a let down. He starts with a disclaimer that this book won't get into specifics, it will just cast the vision for a small groups-based church. But what I couldn't get over was the fact that throughout the entire book he stakes his claim on the validity of the cell groups model by appealing to the New Testament--but he never gives solid evidence that the model he's describing is actually practiced in the New Testament. It looks more like Reformation-era pietism than first-century Christianity to me. And if he disagrees, I wish he would prove me wrong.
This is the classic book that informed much of how Circle of Hope got organized. It makes a great, Biblical case for why the system of the modern and hypermodern church needs to reform and reflect the basic ideals of the early church. If you are willing to engage in some practical theologizing you should read this. If you are leading Circle of Hope you should definitely read this. -- Rod

It's a great resource for a cell church. Even though it needs a contemporary update, it is still very relevant. Recommended, highly. It was incredibly influential for Circle of Hope and its formation. Our cell leaders still benefit from it. It is nicely affirming.
