Wild Virginia Nights by Christine Dorsey (1990) … I saw this book mentioned recently, had to buy it as I grew up in Virginia.

⛏️❤️ Setting: 1830 Virginia, near Lynchburg / Roanoke, plus bits in Richmond and northern England.

⛏️❤️ Plot: Briefly, Catherine has inherited a failing coal mine from her father, and in desperation she hires an Englishman, Nick who’s worked in English coal mines. They clash.

⛏️❤️ An interesting and well written story with a bit of mystery, who’s sabotaging the coal mine? I so appreciated that it was not an enemies to lovers trope. Kate can be insecure, and Nick is a man of few words..so they keep their feelings to themselves. There’s plenty of sizzling steamy scenes… loved the frolicking in the pond ones.

⛏️❤️ Cover artist is John Ennis.

DNF 20%. The characters and plot of this book are so up my alley, but the POV switches every paragraph between the MFC and MMC when they’re in a scene together. While I’m used to head-hopping in vintage romance books, this excessive frequency gave me a literal headache every time I picked it up. Sad not to finish the story, but still happy to own for the gorgeous cover.
