After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series - the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and is now available.

Miranda is a serial killer. She killed 12 people, declared criminally insane and is residing in a secure hospital.

Miranda relates to the reader each and every crime in detail. Some she says were accidents, but then she got hooked on killing.

But the big question is .... did she really commit these crimes? Or is this all in her own mind?

The police have one opinion ... her therapist has another.

Many thanks to the author / Books n All Promotions for the advanced digital copy of MIRANDA. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Miranda isn’t someone that anyone can really bring to mind, even after they have just met her, you can’t say she is beautiful or ugly, has a little button nose or one your can’t take your eyes off. She simply has a face which is nondescript. What is memorable about her is that she is one absolutely scary as hell serial killer that has murdered 12 people in a really short period of time. What I do remember about her is her lack of empathy for her victims and her mesmerizing fascination at watching the helplessness of the dying in their final moments and confusion in their eyes as they couldn’t believe this was happening. I was more than relieved to find that this woman was off the streets and in Crowfield, a high security psychiatric hospital wing attached to the prison.
The story drops back to three years before when an accident on a snowy road, that Miranda in driving along too fast, loses control of her car that then hits a bollard, which is thrown down an embankment, that then strikes a walker on his way to a meeting. It hits him with such force he is thrown into a freezing river while Miranda watches on. A one in a million accident that gives her a thrill big enough to make her an addict to murder.
The story now bounces back and forth between Miranda present day in the psychiatric unit and a doctor who is after more than a solution for his violent and mentally deranged patients. To all of the murders and the police task team that are assigned to these random deaths and puzzling situations that are like a disjointed dot to dot without any numbers to join them to make a bigger picture. I very quickly took to DI Keen, her sheer dedication to solve these unrelated murders that really niggled her that something was very missing from them all and her battle to try to save a marriage, where between her and her doctor husband the most intimacy they had were the notes on the fridge door.
This is a truly busy book that had me on a constant high and tense on all the story lines as it bounced from one to another. You simply can’t guess the outcomes of any of them. Absolutely belting! Highly recommended!
I received an e-copy of this book for a Blog tour. This is my honest review.

So the end of last year I binge read, and enjoyed, the entirety of Stewart Giles Jason Smith series, so I was excited to find out he had another book out.

This is a bit of a departure from his usual police procedurals (even though there is an element of it in there) and is a stand-alone psychological thriller which if you’ve never read any of Stewart Giles’ books would be a good place to start.

Starting this novel I didn’t really know what to expect but I was really pleasantly surprised. Miranda is a cleverly written story that is non stop entertainment from beginning to end.

We go back and forth between Miranda in the present day, who is locked up in a mental health facility and a few years previously when the town of Dunford has a spate of particularly brutal murders.

Miranda is one of those women you’d see every day, not someone who’s that memorable which is probably why she got away with the deaths of twelve people. But did she really commit those murders or are they just delusions of her mentally ill mind?

I did not see the ending coming at all, which for me is always a plus in a book...although it did leave me with a few unanswered questions. Also one of the characters, DI Keene, got a little repetitive to me, going on and on about her marriage issues, there did seem to be any really, but of course that’s just my opinion.

Overall Miranda is one of those memorable books that will keep you guessing until the very end.

This is a completely stand-alone Psychological Thriller with police procedural thrown in.

OMG Stewart Giles has really pulled it out of the bag this time. I have read hundreds of crime fiction books but never anything quite like this and I mean that in a very good way. The story switches from 1st person to 3rd person and different time zones but it all works perfectly.

This is a fast read because I couldn't put the book down and the suspense is a strong thread running all the way through the story. The reader is fastened in to their seat and taken on the roller coaster ride of a lifetime totally engrossed in a book that just keeps on giving all the way to the jaw-dropping finale.

Meet Miranda, a series of circumstances throw her onto a path of killing that she never expected but one she gets a real taste for. The police are following false lead after false lead with innocents being arrested and the additional problems of drugs and street violence thrown into the mix they really are up against it as the killer stands by watching.

Miranda is a unique character, a serial killer but one that I really have to like. She is nothing special, a loner who is ordinary looking and she blends in to the background silently. She doesn't come across as evil but the bodies piling up suggest that she certainly is. She certainly doesn't fit the profile of a serial killer either and that adds to the intrigue.

DI Keene is married to a doctor and they are like ships that pass in the night with the responsibilities of their respective jobs. Trying to keep her marriage together as she struggles with the ever increasing pile of bodies that are totally unconnected it is debatable if some are murders or not. Life is not easy and just when she has life and work back under control fate steps in.

If you like crime fiction you will love this. Police Procedural and Psychological Thriller all rolled into one. No padding, this is all action and high speed action at that.

Definitely 5 golden stars from me this is the best book I have read in a long time.

I have been extremely excited by this book since I first heard about it and I was not disappointed.
I have read all of Stewart's books, as well as listening to all the Smith ones on Audible and love them all. This book is no different in that sense, but it is a standalone psychological thriller, which is different.
With this book we start off by knowing who the serial killer is, but not what she has done. The killer in question is Miranda, who is in a maximum security mental institution as she was found guilty of being a serial killer, but convinced the judge that she was insane.
We start off by meeting her and throughout the book there are chapter flashbacks to her crimes, along with getting to know her now through other chapters.
The way the book is written is very clever as we slowly learn more about her, the facility she is in, and the crimes she has committed, along with following the police investigation of the crimes throughout the book.
I love this book as it is so different from normal crime books and had me hooked from the very first page. There are so many twists and turns throughout and you never quite know Miranda and her mental state as the drugs and her persona are very clever entwined leaving you guessing as to whether she really is insane or just using the system to her own advantage.
It isn't until the very end that you finally figure her and everything else out by which time you have been fully immersed in the storyline.
Overall it is a very unique book and Stewart has definitely upped his game with this one. The book is a brilliant read and one I would highly recommend to everyone.

I’ve not read any of this authors previous books so I was looking forward to reading this standalone. I wasn’t disappointed.

Miranda is in a secure psychiatric unit for killing twelve people after convincing the judge she’s criminally insane. Here is her story and what a story it is.

I’m not going to go into the storyline as I feel you need to read this story for yourself. The secondary characters have their own stories which adds so much more to this story.

I thought this was a clearly written story. I couldn’t resist but to read this in one sitting.

Expect the unexpected.

This author sure knows how to captivate his readers. I’ll definitely be looking into reading more from him in the future.

Miranda is a standalone written by the very talented author of the Smith series: Stewart Giles.
Having read and enjoyed all of the Smith series I was looking forward to reading this as it is something different although still of the same genre.
Miranda is almost 28 years old and an inpatient at Crowfield Security Hospital which is joined on to Boston prison in Otherly, North Yorkshire. I was hooked from the beginning where we get to meet Miranda and follow the events that led to her being held in Crowfield instead of having to serve a prison sentence. As with some of Stewart's previous books, I have enjoyed the interspersed humour throughout the stories and this also had me chuckling away and didn't disappoint! Had some of the situations happened in real life then I would certainly not laugh and I would feel a mix of different emotions but I love Stewart's writing style; he writes the greatest stories with cleverly thought out characters and just the right amount of humour.
The chapters alternate between Miranda in the present day and then back 3 years to when it all began - an accident that resulted in a man losing his life just before Christmas. From then on victims are found and the only detail of significance for the police comes from some witnesses who report seeing a woman with black hair but they can't recall her facial features - she has a face that people simply just can't remember. I couldn't wait to finish it to reach the conclusion which shocked me to the core! You'd think that with knowing the killer, there wouldn't be much of a story but this most definitely is not the case; it's a very clever storyline and makes for compulsive reading. I loved Miranda's character and felt sorry for her many times as some of the hospital staff are very unsavoury characters and I felt angry at their actions; luckily there was one who showed some kindness to Miranda. DI Patricia Keene and her team really have their work cut out and the evidence mounts up for one of the murders but is the suspect responsible for the other crimes, too - is Miranda innocent? I tried to work out the connection between the victims - is there a connection? From start to finish, it's a fast paced read with lots of twists and I dare you to read without being hooked! Another highly recommended read - thank you!

Having killed twelve people and been assessed as criminally insane by most of the experts who have seen her, Miranda is incarcerated in a secure psychiatric unit. On her worse days she spends most of her time locked up and under guard, and on better days gets to associate with the other inmates or attend group therapy sessions with the lecherous Dr French. The chapters which Miranda narrates are set in the present day, and the rest of the chapters follow the police investigation three years ago into the deaths of ten people in a very short space of time. The first death for DI Patricia Keene and her team seems to be a straight forward hit and run, closely followed on Christmas Day by the discovery of a brutally stabbed woman in a pub skip. The investigation gets stranger when three people all apparently jump from a block of flats at the same time and the ensuing chaos results in further deaths. Motives seem varied and DI Keene even has a strong suspect for one of the murders, but there is a little niggling doubt in her mind together with multiple sightings of an unidentified woman.
The book is very cleverly written, entwining strands from the past and present, but it is only at the end that the reader will truly understand how events interact as it leads the reader first one way and then the other right up to the final twist. I loved the fact that the killer's thoughts are mixed in with the actual police procedural part which would have been a great story on its own. Also since the book contains no graphic violence or language it is one that is suitable for any reader. Highly recommended and a great introduction to this author's work.

I read this book with my breath hitched in my throat. I don't think I could take a single deep breath in the entire prose. The writing was straightforward, the story foretold in such a way that I couldn't help but be intrigued by Miranda, the serial killer who had been sent to a psychiatric for 12 murders.

My second book by this author, and I think I have become a complete fan of his writing. There was power behind his words. It was all his fault. He made me like a serial killer who killed in a cool manner and lived to tell me the tale.

What could I say about this author whose mind was so wicked that he enamored me. I was pretty sure he put me in some kind of trance while reading as I couldn't stop reading. Never have I come across an author who could make me love evil so much. I was pretty sure there was a reason for the kills or she simply liked it.

The cops investigating the murders were good in their work. You wouldn't believe this, but I wanted to tell the author to kill the cop's husband. I tell ya it's not my fault. I was hypnotized by this author. He made me a literary killer with my thoughts.

I wonder what he had for me in the next book Mistress.

I finished reading this book on my lunch break today and wanted to get my thoughts down as soon as I could for my stop on the blog tour!

I have to say that I really enjoyed this story, it was different from what I expected based on the author’s previous releases but in a very good way, I thought it was a really good way to approach and tell the story. I loved the different time periods where you go forward and back in time to learn about the past, and present for Miranda.

Miranda is one of those characters that you will remember for a while. She has a brilliant unstable personality and I loved that about her, she as really well developed and I can imagine the author having lots of fun writing about her.

4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon – very enjoyable thriller and I can’t wait for his next book to be released!

I've read every single book that Stewart Giles has written and I've got to say that this one is the best by far, although I thought that about his last book and then I'm hit with this one!
Miranda is in a secure unit attached to a prison in Yorkshire. At her trial, she convinced the judge that she was criminally insane so she is spending her time either locked up or engaging in therapy sessions with the toe-curlingly lecherous Dr French. The twelve murders were committed three years ago and, interspersed with Miranda's re-living of the events, we follow Detective Inspector Keene as she attempts to solve the crimes. We also meet her busy doctor husband and realise that their marriage is barely ticking over as they never have time for each other.
Each chapter brings us more clues as the evil-doer and the policewoman continue their parts in the drama and we wonder why no-one believes that Miranda is the killer. It is eye-popping to understand more of what is going on in Miranda's head and there were times when I wanted to scream that the police weren't taking her seriously. I couldn't put this book down, even forgetting to eat as I devoured the story. If you love a good murder, you have twelve of them in this book and I defy anyone to know how it will end.

Having read one of Stewart’s books before I was really looking forward to reading Miranda. This is a stand-alone book so you don’t have to have read any of his previous work to enjoy it but after you read Miranda I am betting you will want to go and check out the other books he has written.
When a body is found floating in the river just before Christmas DI Keene is tasked with trying to find out what happened. As more seemingly unconnected murders happen in a short space of time she is stretched to the max. The only thing that seems to connect them is an apparent witness to several of the incidents.
At the start of the book Miranda is locked up in a high security facility after being found incapable of being sent for trial for 12 murders. The facility is run by some very dubious characters none more so the therapist Dr French who seems to take great pleasure in having a group of sometimes highly medicated women under his control.
I am not usually a big fan of books that flit between the past and the present as they can often get confusing. Somehow this one just seems to work. All the parts in the present focus on Miranda and her time in the facility, seen from her perspective so you are left wondering at times if what she is saying is the truth or the version of the truth that is playing out in her mind. The visits to the past focus on the police investigations. You also get to see into the life of the DI as these complex investigations threaten to take over her life and make her question her marriage. As each event occurs you are taken along for the ride trying to work out the connections between them, as on the surface the police have credible alternative suspects for each crime.
Stewart Giles has produced a book that certainly has a lot of twists that keeps the reader guessing as to which parts are fact and which are fiction (if any are) and I will admit that I didn’t expect the ending at all. The main characters certainly don’t disappoint with the killer appearing to have no redeeming characteristics including no motive other than they seem to enjoy the thrill of the kill.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable read and would heartily recommend it to anyone who is a fan of psychological thrillers.

Miranda is a serial killer by her own admittance. She is in a secure unit. We learn of her story from her side and from that of the police at the time of her killing spree. A man is found by the river possibly the victim of a hit and run. A woman has been killed near a pub and it looks like her boyfriend could be to blame. Three people have supposedly jumped from a block of flats at the same time, one being an elderly woman with a terminal diagnosis. DI Keene has her work cut out with more murders than they have ever had to deal with and she has that gut feeling that they are somehow connected. As yet she is not sure how, but her tenacity just won’t let this one go. I really enjoyed this and took to the characters- even Miranda and felt sorry for how she was treated by Dr French. The pages turned easily and I wanted the book to be longer, if that makes sense , I was enjoying it so much whilst wanting things to be put right. A crime book with a psychological perspective, something that little bit different. You just get the feeling that something isn’t quite right but can’t put your finger on it. A very interesting read that left me thinking and with a smile- I think!

Oh my goodness this book is amazing. Such a cleverly constructed story. Very well written. The reader is soon drawn into multiple storylines and you want to know what happens next.

Who is Miranda? How come so many have been affected by her? Why did she kill so many? What's her life like now in rehabilitation?

Reminiscient of a modern day Ruth Rendell thriller . We know who the killer is, but its not a complicated plot, just the knock on effect of ordinary everyday activities spiralling out of control.

You will empathise with Miranda and by the time you reach the conclusion, will be left wondering and thinking about what is real and how it all came about.

Stewart Giles has hit it out of the park with Miranda. She lived in my head for more than a week after I finished reading the book, which I did in a day because I just couldn’t put it down.
Stewart’s ability to create interesting, believable, relatable characters is unsurpassed. As is his ability to weave characters into an intricate maze of a plot. The ending stunned me and left me reeling.
It’s been a really long time since I have loved and hated a protagonist as much as I did Miranda.

Stewart Giles’ latest book is as dark as promised. I’m still shuddering.

Miranda is a detective story and psychological thriller in one; two stories, running parallel, kept me enthralled, appalled, and guessing, right to the end.

MIRANDA: SHE MIGHT JUST KILL AGAIN is creepy chilling. Murder and mayhem discussed with such nonchalance it's heart stopping.
