Born together and locked in endless struggle...that leaves us but one fate...Envy, the final Stigma appears at last...on Kana! To protect her, Aki resolves to battle Eriya in earnest and sets out for Tsubakiin Manor. The tale of the love and blood red bonds shared by the beautiful vampire twins and their thrall comes to a thrilling conclusion!
She publishes under two names in Japanese, that spell the same but are written with different characters. - 硝音あや: for shōjo manga - しょうおとあや: for BL manga
Final volume was quite info dumpy to the end but i loved it non the less, it almost felt like it was being set up for a sequel (and i'd love if that had been the case!). Overall though this series is just beautiful in its artwork, i love it so much.
gotta be honest with y'all, i can't recommend this. the art's decent but shouoto really was like psych, y'all thought kana was a protaganist? nah, it's the boys for me, our girl is just here to be in love and give us nothing <3
also i'm personally offended she made the angel dudes cops at the end. i was prepared to direct any leftover investment to them but i can't respect characters who voluntarily pick immoral jobs! you have magic powers, do something that helps people 😭
This story was much better and more flushed out than Kiss of the Rose Princess (but not as good as Demon Prince of Momochi House). The artwork in all of Shouoto's work is gorgeous, so it's worth checking out for that alone. :)
Ok, now I'm starting to think it's just me. This is roughly the third or fourth series I've finished recently that I really liked right up to the end, when it just seems like the author got tired and just...stopped. I don't need to know EVERYTHING about what happens to all the characters at the finish of a tale, but when you never really find out what the condition is of the two main characters, I'm hard pressed to call that a win. When the last thing we see is Kana and Aki leaping away after five years during which they never contacted any of all these people who almost died/had pieces of themselves amputated for their sakes to even say they were ok--that is some jerky behavior. We never find out what Kana's penalty was for hosting the stigma and Aki never even speaks so who knows what happened to him. For all we know, Kana's just jumping around with a well-preserved corpse because she's totally crazy by now. Meh.

The art was consistently beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised with how crazy the other twin was *shivers* he was so convinced that he knew what love was, when really it wasn’t what he was imagining 😬😬

I want to preface this review as a re-read; I initially read this series in 2023 and rated it four stars, and after another go I am keeping my rating. I also want to add that I've read multiple of Shouoto's works at this point including "Kiss of the Rose Princess" and "Demon Prince of Momochi House", which I rated last year.
As always, I really enjoyed the characters, the complex world with epic battles and characters who make their own way, and seeing the relationships and characters develop as the story went on. I loved the artwork and the centralized plot (in terms of location, I mean), and the brooding character and sunshine character who find a reason to live among love and insane supernatural goings-on.
All that said, the same problems I had with this series--as well as with "Rose Princess" and "Momochi House"--are present, which seems to be part of Shouoto's style. For some reason, I feel like the way these stories are written allows for the plot to be easily forgotten, storylines to be overwritten with twists that feel poorly explained, or final confrontations to come out of nowhere. Let me address each as I found examples. Throughout the series, I found things like the fire from Kana's childhood (how it starts, how she escapes, etc.) isn't explained sufficiently, and the Curious Events Club is really only important for one or two happenings. Rie doesn't show up again until the second to last volume and we never see what happens to her. In the end, Aki gives the Lust stigma to Eriya and somehow gets the stigmas by the time the time-jump occurs. I just want to briefly mention the time jump does feel like I've been robbed of the aftermath, but at the same time am satisfied all the same.
Admittedly, a lot of my gripes stem from Eriya. It seems Shouoto has a habit of writing "lynchpin characters" (such as Eriya, the titular Demon Prince, etc.) who often have complicated reasons for setting the story in motion due to their nature. That's fine, but nothing ever feels fully explained to me, for some reason. I don't know how to explain it other than you get drip fed things for volumes at a time before everything is thrown at you and resolved all within two or even the final volume. Eriya's end felt cheap and a little too quick, and I would have loved more time devoted to fleshing him out. The fact that a lot of his behavior is explained after it happens is also confusing, as the reader has to retroactively recall scenes that now make a lot of sense (please see the Tsubakiin Emperor). Somehow Shouoto's twists always feel confusing to me, and it's probably because of these pacing issues. I also have to ask why Eriya did what he did in the first place--sure, the love of your life is now undead and has a dead baby in her womb forever, but why did you think the best idea was to reincarnate yourself into it... and keep doing that for 5 more generations?
All in all, I love "He's my Only Vampire"--I love the world and characters and story created. I just genuinely feel there was not enough thought given to the pacing. This kind of story can work as 10 volumes, but to have the first few be nothing but slice of life sprinkled with supernatural stigma things and then realize Eriya is his own grandpa by volume 9 and have it all be over in 10? I feel like the audience doesn't get much time to really sit down and think about how screwed up this all is. Honestly, I'm just glad Kana and Aki got their happy ending. They deserve it.

The inky art, characters designs/outfits and some of the story's twists(when done right) I really enjoyed but the unhealthy relationships and disgusting behavior of the boys and the school bullies really annoyed me especially since Kana NEVER defends herself. At times I let it go but this time was too far and I find it concerning how reviewers romancized these bizzare scenes.Yikes. Also Kana is poorly written when it comes to her character development and she's indecisive, dependent on Aki,naive, weak crybaby and she's hardly irelevant to her own story which became mostly about Aki and Eriya. There's also A LOT of plot holes and retcons through out the story. 3 and a half star.
It started off really strong and it was really good for most of it but the last few volumes were really just a complete mess. Random plot points appeared out of nowhere and it all just really ruined the story for me. I stopped caring about the story and where it was going. I only finished because there was a few volumes left until the end.
The end was unsatisfying and nothing really made sense but I'm not surprised. I loved watching Kana and Aki's relationship develop over the manga but that is really the only good thing I can say about this series. The plot is all over, the characters are mediocre, and it's not really worth the read. The art style is gorgeous but that isn't really a redeeming quality.
I wouldn't recommend this series if I'm being completely honest but everyone has different tastes so if you really want to give it a shot go for it. It's only ten volumes so it really isn't much of a commitment. Overall I'm just really disappointed with how this series turned out. It's better than Twilight though I can confirm that.
“If they can live out their lives so joined, how could there by any greater or more fulfilling happiness? In the face of so sweet a bond as that... How could even a thing like eternal life ever hope to compare?”
Sweet ending. A little ambiguous but that’s Aya Shouoto for you. She loves to mind f*ck your brain. And I’ll let her do it because I have to read everything she writes/draws!!!! Anyway, I am okay with not knowing exactly what’s going on with Aki and Kana at the end. They obviously are together and seem truly happy. Hell, they get to be together for the rest of eternity. Let me be honest, I’m just glad that Jin got to live at the end. I love that dog! Haha.
4/5 for me and I don’t even like vampires. Haha. (But The Demon Prince of Momochi House is better fyi .. haha)
Wow, that's a messed up family tree if there ever was one. The ending is both positive and yet ambiguous at the same time. Just why is it that Kana and Aki have to keep moving and no one knew they were alive for so long? Did Eriya really cease to exist and that's why it seems like Aki now has all 7 stigmas? Does Kana realize her relationship to the angels at all or is she still in the dark about that and just living as Aki's thrall now? So many questions still, but it does seem as if they are at least happy together and everyone else is settling into their new lives without the stigmas.

So the whole truth came out in this last volume. It was a bit convoluted, but made sense at the same time. That last battle was quick and slightly abrupt, but I'm ultimately okay with how it turned out. I really loved that last chapter as well. I like Aya Shouto's works because the stories are mysterious and the character designs are lovely. Bingeing on this makes me want to start Kiss of the Rose Prince and Demon Prince of Momochi House again.
I binged through the last half of this series in one night and I'm not sure that did service to this series. There were a lot of things I found confusing or that I still have questions on and do believe that a re-read and time to ponder between volumes would be beneficial. The art style is beautiful and though this is the first series I have completed by this mangaka, I do already have another series of hers that I'm interested in reading in the near future.
It's over! I'm relieved to not have to wonder how this story ended anymore. I guess that's not a ringing endorsement, but there it is. I think the last volume was probably equally as good as the first. Which is to say, it's probably my favorite one. However, I'm not sure I could recommend the series to anyone. It shouldn't have been nearly as long as it was.
I am so glad that I picked up this series. It had such a great romantic atmosphere about it and I loved the artwork.
I only had six volumes to read yesterday and I just wanted to sit and read to find out how it ended. It had a great built up but I felt the ending was rushed and left me with a lot of questions. Overall, I highly enjoyed this series and I hope its made into an anime.
I don’t even know what to say. I mean— how does she go from running inside the burning building to that ending?! I don’t get it. It felt as if a lot is missing. I don’t get how manga end like this. Kind of disappointing. Great series but those ending scenes… I mean—Hitaki didn’t even get to tell her —gah!!! So much was left unsaid.
Great ending! Lots of action and the ideal level of romance. As a manga overall, I enjoyed this series quite a lot. It was a nice balance. I’m pleased the romance wasn’t dragged on for 9 installments of slow burn, and they got to it in a decent length of time. The plot was easy to follow and the art was lovely. Overall series rating: 4.5
A confusing, but riveting conclusion to a series that has an abundance of poorly planned story-telling and plot twists disguised as information reveals. Or maybe it was poor translating, either way, I spent way too much focus trying to suspend my disbelief that I should have. Still, it kept me engaged til the end and the art is very pretty.
There is some info dumping at the brining to flesh out our final battle that wasn’t what I was expecting at all. But I liked the epilogue, we got to see all the ever after. I do think the sister thing didn’t need to be spelled out, it was a given but fine. I like that got to see her brother and her Aki are getting some sort of happy even if it could be happier in my opinion.
It ended beautifully, They were together in the end finally. Happy and in love. I have just been saddened it was the last book, I wish there was gonna more. I am a big fan of this manga writer so much. Another bestie to add to my Favorites.
Great series with an open possibilities ending to it; where the readers can make open ideas and possibly the writer can start a new series, adding to the story. Slight suspense and twists ! Overall, one of my favorite manga series. Thank you !
