Learning a lesson the hard way is a lot easier when there are two guys teaching it to you.
Failing out of college, Charlie should be focusing on his summer history class. The only problem is, there’s this hot older guy playing pool whenever he goes to Terry’s Bar. Even if the stud seems out of his league, Charlie loves a challenge. But as his best friend watches, are Charlie’s self-destructive obsessions getting out of control?
Sometimes, Alex was just happy that he survived his troubled and reckless past. The wildest he gets these days is a game of pool once a week at Terry’s. Otherwise, he’s busy running his recording studio, and loving on the man who saved him when he was at his worst. Luckily, that man likes an open relationship, so Alex doesn’t have to leave his old life entirely behind…
When Ryan met Alex, he knew he had found someone special. Damaged by the world, the younger Alex just needed a guy to show him that a different life was possible. Together, they have the happiness he’d always dreamed of. But with a successful career as a history professor, and a hot sex life at home, could it finally be time to expand their love, and to want even more?
Like they say, history repeats itself. For these reformed bad boys, that might be a good thing.
The History Professor is an MMM romance, the first stand-alone novel in the Taught by Two series. It has casual hookups, a little kink, May/December love, and lots of heat on the way to a very happy ending! Enjoy!
Vamos con 3.5* porque pasé una rato agradable, aunque Charlie me sacó de quicio en casi todas las ocasiones, pero resulta una lectura entretenida si bien no muy original en la trama.
So I really enjoyed these characters, but I was a little disappointed the book didn't spend more time developing their relationships with each other. There were several scenes where they were (separately) hooking up with strangers. They were sexy enough but really unnecessary. They didn't drive the plot and really slowed the pace of the story. A lot of the book was spent in narratives of the characters reflection on themselves and soul searching. It started to read like a self-help book at times.
There was absolutely zero conflict between the three of them. I get that Ryan and Alex had an open relationship for years but that was for hookups not bringing in a third. In my experience it's never that smooth or easy. No matter how well you know each other. It wasn't very believable.
The relationship between them didn't even really start until 70% of the way through the book. That first 70% felt like it was just setting the scene and taking too long. Really if you can cut a scene and your readers can still follow the story cut it. If the same information is being relayed to the readers more than one or two times cut the extra. It also needed more "show" and less "tell". It wasn't a bad story it just neede a lot more editing and tightening up.
I've read other books by this author and really enjoyed them so I'll keep reading the other books. Maybe this was more just a personal preference issue.
I will start by saying that I really enjoyed this book as a whole. I always find MMM books a little confusing because you have three names and characters that are developing and it is a lot of information to remember. My main complaint is that the entire book was more so building up to all three of them coming together and realizing that they wanted to be in a relationship and the growth they went through because of this change in what they thought their "ideal" relationship looked like. (Sorry that was a long sentence). And the book ended. I wanted more. I know that sounds like I didn't enjoy the book, but I really did. I liked the three main characters and their different personalities and the love that we saw begin to grow. I just wanted more from their story, like there could have been an epilogue that jumped five years in the future and showed us how their relationship had progressed but there wasn't anything. My last thought will be to say that I know there are two more books in this series but it doesn't sound like they will include these characters at all (I only just started the second). But maybe we will see them again? Or maybe we won't. I lied. One more thing. I loved the best friend/roommate (Julian) and I would read a whole book about his relationship and journey with his boyfriend. Okay, now I'm done.
DNF at 14.3%, which is kind of a record. It was quite some time since an erotica book upset me so much I had to drop it off before the first sex scene came along. This is the second book in a row from this author I've had to stop reading at an early stage. I just can't stand arrogant and obnoxious MCs, even in an erotica book (I'm talking about Charlie, in case it's not clear, not that I ever got to reading another POV besides the epilogue). Am I really supposed to cheer for him all the way to his happy ending? no thanks. So this author is clearly not for me, no matter how hot his sex scenes (hypothetically) are.
Hmmm. I didn’t like Charlie. He was cocky and rude and a horrible friend. I think I would have been fine with that if Ryan and Alex had then turned him around or something but they just get together and the book ends.
I actually really loved Julian and I want to know more about him and Tucker. Do they find a third to help them out? Tucker definitely needs a Daddy and Julian seems too submissive to make Tucker keep his promises.
I need to hunt to see if Julian and Tucker get a story but the next one in the series features three brand new guys.
This was a reasonably well written gay romance novel in terms of English usage but the plot wasn't explored that well. So, although the character development was decent, I felt like the story could have been much deeper and longer than it was, which would have improved it a lot. I've read much better novels by this author, so this one was a little disappointing to read. I'm not interested in reading the rest of the series, especially since they're about completely different characters with seemingly zero connection to these ones that I was just starting to like by the last 20% of the book.
Romantic stories with multiple partners are since of my favorite stories, so I jumped on this one when I saw it. My favorite thing about the story was that it wasn't the stereotypical threesome story. Instead it was a smart, thoughtful look at a couple adding a third.
The additional discussion of how important and interesting LGBT history is added to the background of the characters and helped them all connect.
I enjoyed this story, but I wanted a bit more, perhaps an epilogue a year or do later, but this ended with a happy for now which suited the characters. The characters were good men, damaged in places, and definitely human, but you could relate to them in their situations which meant I cared for them. Even though Aldx and Ryan were older, they still didn't have everything sorted in life and their characters developed too which I liked.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked being able to see all three MC's POV. Really well written and great steamy scenes. Lots of heart, low angst and sexy times. Damn near perfection. I hope I get to read more about these guys. And I definitely will read more from the author R. Cayden.
This book seemed to relate itself to the present and past in relations to gay history . It also revolved around age gaps between three very unique men . Much like the story of the three bears .... This one seems to old and this one seems too young but all three together are just right.
This was a really enjoyable read. Charlie, Alex, and Ryan were all very unique individuals, and meshed together quite well. There were some pesky typos throughout the book but they didn't deter from the story itself. The story was very engaging and solid. I look forward to reading more books by author.
And we're all still worthy of being valued. Fascinating glimpse into the 80s and 90s history of gay life are sprinkled into a solid story of real, fallible, and lovable people.
I absolutely hated it. Not worth the read. Don’t waste your time with this garbage. Does reality go right out the window. Yes. Is it boring. Yes. Does it suck. Yes. Did I waste my time that I can’t never get back. Yes.
Bratty main character and super abrupt ending. What the hell. this had the potential to be really great but just wasn’t. I was waiting for it to develop, for the story to get going and it just never did. What happened? I am left waiting and and wondering.
