She’s been a tomboy and a horsewoman her entire life. He’s a city-slicker who reminds her of a past she’d rather forget.
Breanna White is a cowgirl to the bone. As the youngest adopted sibling — and the only girl — her protective older brothers have always told her that she’ll have to change her ways to attract a man. No thanks.
Adam Cartwright is the wealthy son of a Philadelphia businessman. He’s expected to marry well and run the newspaper his father has spent years building. But Adam doesn’t want a society marriage. He wants Breanna, whose independent spirit captivated him from the first moment they met.
When the city boy comes calling, Breanna falls hard. But there are family secrets in Philadelphia that could change the way that Adam feels about her. A first kiss sends her emotions into a tailspin, so she does what she does best — races away.
Will Adam chase after her and capture the cowgirl’s heart?
Lacy Williams wishes her writing career was more like what you see on Hallmark movies: dreamy brainstorming from a French chateau or a few minutes at the computer in a million-dollar New York City penthouse. In reality, she’s up before the sun, putting words on the page before her kids wake up for the day. Those early-morning and late-night writing sessions add up, and Lacy has published fifty books in almost a decade, first with a big five publisher and then as an indie author. When she needs to refill the well, you can find Lacy birdwatching, gardening, biking with the kiddos, or walking the dog. One thing I love about Lacy Williams' books is the carefully crafted emotion she builds throughout the entire story. Every thought, word, and interaction has a purpose, and I love seeing how it all comes together in the end.
Catching the Cowgirl definitely delivered when it came to the reader's emotional response to the book. The story was so sweet, and I enjoyed watching the characters fall in love as they're thrown together into a situation that isn't "me and I" but "we" where they can build trust with teamwork.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more works from this author.
Breanna is a tomboy that puts up walls around her kind heart. Adam is a city slicker that can't get Breanna out of his head. When he comes to court her, they both find out they need each other more than they thought.
Catching a Cowgirl is a sweet story of love and learning to be vulnerable. I loved both characters and how they learned a great deal from each other.
I liked the adventure of the horse race that brought these two together. The moments between them were adorable and satisfying.
If you like Western romances with headstrong, but compassionate heroines, and kind heroes, then give this a chance! It's a short but sweet read.
Romance, sweet, western; series but stand alone read Breanna and Adams story is a sweet, suspenseful, romantic fall. The moments between them, where Adam knew, tried to show and convince Breanna that it could be real between them, was well done. Both the hero and the heroine had moments of introspection, reflection and growth. Their families, the race, the hardships and self doubts, the uncertain path to their future, well planned, suspenseful, sweet, and satisfying. Two honest hearts, with sincere attraction, coming together despite all the obstacles.
So now that I've completed the series, I have to say that Lacy Williams is a good writer. I thought that each of the books in this series were good, though the plot for each was a stretch for any one family to contend with. I don't recall which, but a couple of the books in the last half of the series really need some new editing as I found many misspelled words and incorrect words. A couple of times throughout the series I found the phrase "wrap my mind around", and I find that difficult to believe it was normal for the time. I feel like there is possibly another book we haven't seen yet, as Ms. Williams left us wondering about one more relationship. I will read it if she does follow through. At about book 5 or 6, I thought to myself that I was kind of tired of this family, but I kept reading. No regrets there. I really think that 3 books is a good amount for a series. Otherwise, it can get rather drawn out. All in all, I'm glad I read these books. My mom is reading them now!
I loved this book! I've read all the books regarding the White family and couldn't wait for the story about Breanna! It's been several years but it was worth the wait. In a family of all boys, adopted by Jonas White, she was bound to be a tomboy. She also had a medical issue when she was small and I loved meeting her years ago. She's grown up into a feisty woman who still loves horses. Enter Adam Cartwright from Philadelphia. A city slicker who will be running his father's newspaper. They once had a horse race and Adam never forgot Breanna. He's still captivated and hopes when he comes to Wyoming to ask her to move to Philadelphia to live, she'll go - no thanks! Breanna can't imagine living anywhere but the wide open spaces. As the two get involved in an endurance horse race, many things are unfolded. What will happen when the race finishes and decisions have to be made? A wonderful book and fantastic characters!
A continuation of the White Family saga. Unfortunately, this volume, while charming, was lacking in depth. There were the ever-present grammatical and spelling errors as well as continuity issues. Some characters' motivations were never remotely explained, and the paper's ultimate leadership felt like a deus ex machina.
I would strongly urge Ms. Williams to find a good editor who will help develop her into the top-class author she has the potential to be. The books are worth reading.
Read a quarter of the book and went to READ BOOK to get out of it and to post a review. Ah. What a waste. It is ok for young people (as far as I got anyway) Really boring and blah.
Fun story to read. Breanna was the perfect cowgirl. Dresses like a man and enters a horse race that will last 4 days for $500. Adam wants to keep her safe so he enters the race also. What a trooper he was. Here he was a city slicker with not much time spent in the saddle and yet he heads out for a 4 day horse race. After the first day, every bone in his body hurts. But he manages to pull himself up into his saddle the next day. Even though Breanna went back to save a boy with a broken leg, fished Scarface out of the river (even though he pushed her off her horse and made threats against her), and her horse coming up lame in the last day of the race, she perseveres. Adam tells her to take his horse and he will meet her in Chicago. It's a race to the finish where Breanna wins with a close call. $500 in those days was a lot of money. Adam and Breanna's love story was sweet as it slowly began to grow after Adam told her he was smitten with her. She never felt she could fit into Pennsylvania life but agrees to marry Adam and go live there. She buys a horse with part of her winnings. The colt is a Christmas present to Adam. Fun times to read about and the author certainly kept things moving along with all that happened in the race and how Adam and Breanna came to love each other. Good book for an afternoon read.
This is a little hard to rate as I don’t know how I really feel about it. Overall the story and couple were well written. Breanna has always been that character I was itching to see get her happy ending and the connection with Adam was wonderful. The trouble for me was the end- I found it to be unrealistic. Breanna as we know her would hardly find such contentment in the place she lands. Yes I do believe home is where the heart is, but she’s a wild spirit and it didn’t make sense for her to settle down in Adam’s world. Even if the author tried to make it make sense.
Honestly it didn’t really fit Adam either. Breanna was made for wide open spaces and freedom. Even though she ends up “on the outskirts” of Philadelphia, it still felt like she was pinned in.
I liked the resolution for Adam and his brother and Breanna in the race. I will admit that I had a deep reaction to what happened to the kitten. Tears rolled. I did enjoy the story as a whole but Breanna and Adam on a “big ranch in Philadelphia” just wasn’t what I hoped for for this character. Especially when family is so very important to the Whites.
This is a wonderful story. It’s so different from most other western romance novels I have read. Breanna is a very strong in character, selfless and determined to keep her independence and love of horses. Adam, the city slicker, fell in love with her the first time he met her as she was visiting Philadelphia. Three years later he decided to make his dream of Breanna a reality and traveled to Bear Creek, Wyoming to court her and ask her to become his wife. Never in his wildest dreams would he have anticipated entering a cross country horse race. The two of them partnered up to make the long trek. They endured many challenges and hardships along the way but it also gave them the opportunity to really get to know each other, their weaknesses and strengths. It was great to witness them slowly growing in love with each other. I loved how they finally were able to mesh their futures together and reach their HEA. I gave the book only four stars due to some editing slip ups, however, this is a book I can recommend for anyone to read.
I have not done reviews for Books 2 through 7 because I was so excited about the next book in the series. I recommend you read this series in order. It just flows better that way. I had read Book 7 quite a while ago, but as I realized I had read it before I decided to read it in the context of the series. I'm glad I did because I had a better understanding of the finer points in the book.
This is a saga of a single man whose past caused him to have a heart bigger than Texas! By single I mean not married. It chronicles the first 8 of his children, the woman he loved and the life he made for them all.
I really am not sure if this ever happened in this way in the late 1800 and early 1900s. But it is plausible! Lacy Williams makes it so!
READ! READ! READ! You will be glad you chose to do so!
3 stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical western romance Catching the Cowgirl (Wild Wyoming Hearts Book 12){Wind River Hearts book 12} { Wyoming Legacy book 7} by Lacy Williams and this review was given freely. Action, drama, honor, survivor's guilt, an unscrupulous competitor and three romances in one. Contains some twists then ends happily for two of the couples. Philadelphia reported Adam Cartwright laments his destiny to run the family's newspaper business, feels guilty about his brother's accident, and struggles to win Breanna White's love while Seb struggles with the loss of Emma, who is convinced that her sudden blindness makes her unworthy of Seb's love.
Having read the first 8 books in the series over the past month, I really enjoyed Breanna's story. The plot device of the cross country horse race works well. Williams does a good job on developing the relationship between Breanna and Adam. They communicate honestly and come to value each other for important character qualities, not just outward physical attractiveness. I do wish there had been more spiritual development, especially in Adam, as he doesn't seem to have the same solid Christian upbringing that Breanna has.
There are hints about Seb's story, so I can't wait for that!!
I started out with a very strong opinion about what should and shouldn't happen with Breanna. This book was so well written that I was convinced of the correctness of the ending by the author through the story. I love Breanna's spirit and courage. I think it was so important for her to have time to really think through what she wanted. I loved seeing her interact with her mom towards the end of the book. I want to be really careful how much I say because I don't want to give spoilers. Excellent read!
This is Breanna’s and Adam’s love story. Adam met Breanna briefly when she was 15 and visiting Philadelphia. He goes to visit her and wants to wed her. She has reasons for not wanting to go back to Philadelphia so he has to try to change her mind. She runs away to a cowboy race and Adam follows. This is the best part of the story, love the interaction between those two. Would recommend this book to all.
As Brianna 's turn comes to fall in love in the famous White clan. , and being the only girl, her story is bound to be full of fireworks and challenges. For example falling in love while on a gruelling 5day cross country horse race. And someone wants to hurt your girl. But, she is still fighting being yours. It is a good good book and great series.
This was a wonderful story. I loved reading about Breanna and Adam as well as seeing her family. After I read this book, I found I had her parent's story(Homesteader's Sweetheart) and read it. Breanna comes from a fun, loving family. If you like clean, western romance, you will love this story!! I look forward to reading Breanna's brother's stories as well as Penny's brother, Sam's story.
Got to read this story, it's amazing and very encouraging to see how life can be changed. Adam knew what he wanted and was willing to do what it took to go after it too. Breanna was letting her past affect her thinking about getting serious over Adam. Time and compassion can do wonders for a relationship when you really love someone and are able to put them first.
Another reason to read Lacy Williams (Wind River Hearts series), this amazing series of a family that has love, trust and devotion to one another no matter the circumstances. The characters in this 12th. addition was inspiring and awesome. The characters continue to be complex and the storyline will definitely make you feel like you are right there with them as they manage to face trials and conflicts.
Catching the cowgirl is a sweet, clean historical romance that is a part of one of my favorite series. I have read the previous books in the series and would recommend this one or any of the others as a good book to read. It kept me captivated and I can't wait to read Seb's story. Thank you Lacy for another great book!
This story was different than the others, it's good to see Breanna finally grow up and a man who loves her for the way she is but yet challenges her to be better. I am also waiting now on the story about Seb and Emma since its been revealed their is love between but Emma went blind. I am guessing that's number 8.
A country woman and a city man meet briefly when she's 15. He hasn't forgotten her and travels across country to win her love. She takes him on a wild ride. Will they be able to compromise enough to find their HEA? The typos and wrong words were distracting enough to downgrade 1 star.
I waited a long time for Breanna’s story. The only thing I don’t like about it, is it’s a bit too short. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the Whites. I love that Breanna was able to be herself. Adam made a great character in the story as well. Loved the race too! This book is well worth reading.
The most unusual of the bunch finds her match. A horse race like the Iditarod. An unusual family, started by an exceptional human being, raised wonderful people, against all odds, with God, hope, and love. Great series. Highly recommended for all readers.
I am totally enjoying this series and getting to know all the White siblings. They are all adopted and we get to see them grow up and find love. I loved Breanna and Adam's story. These two are perfect for each other. A captivating read that I read straight through.
I absolutely love Lacy's books. I so enjoyed reading about Breanna and how we got to get another glimpse of her family members that I have grown to love. I read through this one in a day! Can't wait to read more about Seb.
Loved this story! Brennan has been one of my favorite characters in this series and I was so excited to read her story! Loved seeing h Adam as part of it! Altogether a great read!!!
As always I fell in love with this western, Ms. Williams has such wonderful people in her stories. I hope that there will be one more book. I long to find out what happens to Seb. This can not be the end.
