An inspiring novel of hope, courage, and a woman's will to overcome adversity. Set in the early 1900s, Forever Determined follows the journey of Pauline Roka. Growing up with an alcoholic father and progressive mother, Pauline’s life is suddenly turned upside down when she is placed in an orphanage with her younger sister at the tender age of eight years old. Under the disciplined care and enduring faith of the Sisters of Intention, Pauline is sheltered from the harsh realities of a world beyond the orphanage walls. When she leaves as a teenager to follow her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, she faces heartless truths that threaten to shatter her aspirations once and for all. With a deep-set determination and fiery will, she catapults forward onto an arduous journey. In a series of twists and turns, her life unfolds into a succession of personal challenges further plagued by the economic turmoil of The Great Depression. Are the challenges too much for a poor orphan to bear or will she rise above it all to beat the odds? Her fate unfolds with a tumultuous climax and her life becomes forever changed once again.
It was a good story but written very simply and predictable. I wanted there to be some surprise or twist that would add interest. I admired the two girls in the story for their determination and I loved how the story was intertwined with a strong faith and hope.
Forever Determined is a real page-turner. It's an inspirational read and meets all the requirements of a "keeper." It tells a great story of a woman's determination, paints the picture of a life well-lived and demonstrates how the human spirit can overcome adversity through hard work, caring and kindness. I enjoyed every minute of the tears and joy!
