Scripture! Style! Extraordinary! Derived largely from his bestselling Twelve Extraordinary Women, as well as from some of his other Bible study publications, John MacArthur offers this insightful, scripture-basedlook into what makes mothers truly extraordinary. The book's contemporary design appeals to modern women's sophisticated tastes, while the message of mothers' faith unfolds. Among the extraordinary mothers in this book are Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Jochebed, Hannah, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, Huldah, Mary, the mother of John Mark, and Eunice. None of these mothers is perfect, but their strength is shown in their children and in their own lives.
John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
Faith makes a mother extraordinary! This is a very encouraging and edifying book about the importance of motherhood in God’s overarching plan. The book is a small one and thus would be a perfect gift to introduce young mothers to Biblical mothers and their important influence in the spiritual life of their children. The text was gathered from MacArthur’s book “Twelve Extraordinary Women” and his Biblical commentaries. The mothers discussed are Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Rachel and Leah, Jochebed, Deborah, Manoah’s wife (the mother of Samson), Abigail, Bathsheba, Mary (the mother of Jesus), and Mary (the mother of John Mark.) These women are representative of women who had fertility problems, mothers whose sons may not have behaved as they had desired, mothers raising children in a fallen world, mothers who have to let go of their children, mothers who may have had guilt issues of their own and mothers who are faithful, persistent and accepting of their children (all of them were dedicated to their children). Does this sound like issues mothers of today must face? Yes, exactly! So these stories have great relevance for today. Each chapter ends with a “Blessing for You” relating how the example of the mother of the chapter can pertain to your life and be a personal blessing for you. I highly recommend and state again the book would be a great gift for a new mother or a mother facing changes in motherhood.
This book is short, and it’s chapters are like short devotionals, which is great for my season of life. This has blessed me and has been surprisingly insightful for such a short read. I just wish it were longer! … so I’ll have to read MacArthur’s ‘12 extraordinary women’ again from which much of this book was excerpt
