I hate Liam Alexander. I hate his Rolex. I hate his scowl. I hate everything his multi-billion-dollar company stands for.
When the pompous, rich, arrogant jerk comes strutting into the coffee shop, I barely managecivility.
But people make mistakes, and when I screw up, it's epic.
I never expected the jerk would actually be a well-respected member of Club Verge. I never should have trusted the masked stranger when he beckoned me. I never should have taken him up on his offer.
And the biggest mistake of my life? Letting him kiss me.
Fueled by dark chocolate and even darker coffee, USA Today bestselling author Jane Henry writes what she loves to read – character-driven, unputdownable romance featuring dominant alpha males and the powerful heroines who bring them to their knees. She’s believed in the power of love and romance since Belle won over the beast, and finally decided to write love stories of her own.
What a great addition to the NYC Doms series and each story will read well as a stand-alone. The chemistry between billionaire Liam Alexander and Cora Myers is off the charts. Talk about a love-hate situation---he is all about buildings and money, and she is for protecting the earth—the Greenery will be a level of contention between them. What happens when they have an encounter at Verge? Once they have a small taste of each other, it won’t be enough.
Cora Myers works two jobs, including tending bar at Verge, plus goes to school full time on a scholarship and she has legal guardianship over her two younger siblings, fourteen-year-old Bailey, and ten-year-old Ben. Cora sure doesn’t have time to date, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have fantasies. Working in Verge, she can only get a glimpse of a world she would love to explore from the books she has read.
Liam Alexander is a private man who is very public because of his business and wealth. He is a man who is use to getting what he wants. His latest building project includes destroying the Greenery to put up a new building—but it is getting an uprise from the college students. He is without a submissive and rarely will go to Verge to play, but when it is a masquerade night, he feels comfortable attending where no one knows who he is.
The plot will have a bad encounter at the bookstore between Liam and Cora and then she goes to work at Verge, and it is masquerade night. What a shock when a masked man summons her to him and wants to play—something she has never done before. She will consent to an OTK spanking—but then things go bad afterward. Once Liam has had a taste of Cora, he wants her, and he is determined to have her, under a two-month contract. Can he buy this girl and will she acquiesce to his offer?
OMG, this story is hawt, with so much angst, passion, power, and possession. Cora goes into the contract with the knowledge that it is only two months, it will help out her and her siblings, and it allows her to experience a D/s relationship. Can she abide by the rules? Rule number six is no falling in love—like that would happen! He knows she is one of the college students protesting his destruction of the Greenery, but he won’t interfere—it has nothing to do with their D/s contract.
“I can fight you, but you’ll win in the end. You won’t punish me for trying to stop your company, but it barely ruffles your feathers.”
“There is nothing fair about a power exchange,” I tell her, “You’re signing an agreement for there to be an imbalance of power.”
The story is a forbidden love story of a wealthy older man and a struggling young woman. It is only a two-month contract of her complete submission. But life isn’t always as simple as black and white and the more these two are together, the more they crave of each other. As their time ticks down, their feelings come into play. What happens when life throws them a curve-ball? It is a power struggle of accepting that with two consenting adults who both want the same thing, there is nothing wrong, as long as it is safe, sane and consensual. The story will depict scenes inside a BDSM club but in his private room, along with explicit sex scenes.
“It’s where she’s happy, though. Submitting to me comes as naturally to her as blinking her eyes, intuitive and instinctual, her visceral reaction to my dominance a beautiful sight to see. But sometimes, she needs a little help to get there.”
Just finished reading and I really enjoyed reading, Cora and Liam's story. The story contains BDSM, erotic, manipulation, romance, and hot filthy sex. Cora is a college student working two jobs to support her small family. She was awarded guardianship of her two younger siblings after her mother died of an overdose while in prison. She is working at Books and Cups, as a barista. She gets a call from her sister. While she is defusing a problem at home. She hears a voice, Sorry to interrupt you talking with your boyfriend, but I'd like to order a cup of coffee. Today. He has a voice that sounds like sex. Cora heads over to her second job as a bartender at Verge, a BDSM club. When she gets there she goes to her area and started making drinks. She had forgotten that it was a masquerade party. She feels someone staring at her. She asks her friend if she knows the man that is staring at her? Her friend answers, she didn't know who he was. Liam was a member of the club and he came dressed in a mime costume for the party. When he saw her across the room he recognized her from, Books and Cups, he knew he had to have her. He saw her coming towards him, he knew he had to remain to be a mime. When she was near him he takes her hand and leads her to the dungeon....
Opposition is the sixth book in the NYC Doms series, and while there’s familiar faces, this book can be read as a stand alone. Cora works two jobs, is a student, and has custody of her two younger siblings. Her life is not easy, and it’s not any easier when a rich jerk comes into the bookstore, making demands. Everything becomes more complicated with her mixed feelings of attraction, hate, and she’s shocked at his signs of caring. Liam has lots of rules and Cora breaks just about every single one of them, but when the rule is not to fall in love, who will break that first?
Oh my goodness, I just absolutely devoured this book! It was sooooo gooood! This whole series has been fantastic, but the chemistry, mixed emotions, and both fighting against love, Cora and Liam might be my new favorite couple of this series! Cora is such a strong woman, doing everything she possibly can to keep her siblings safe and fed, but knows she’s stretching herself thin. I was so happy that even though she might not have liked the initial impression of Liam, she still gave him a chance. Liam kind of came off as an alpha-hole, but I loved all of his layers, the sweetness of his Dom, the caring nature when he was around Cora’s siblings, and the protective and possessive sides when it came to Cora. I absolutely loved their chemistry, as they hated each other and grew to respect and love one another. I loved that they both jumped to conclusions about each other without fully knowing the other’s circumstances, but I also loved how they were able to make the best of the other come out. Their steamy scenes were just as impressive, too. I loved this book, I didn’t want to put it down, I can’t get enough of this series, and if I could give this book more than five stars, I totally would!
This the newest book in the Club Verge books, involving the best sex club in Manhattan. I've loved every one of these books, and am always excited to see what Jane Henry is going to do next. I almost always love her heroes and heroines, even when the Domly types are being uber-Domly. However, I can't really say that about Liam.
Cora is a college student who works 2 jobs and goes to college. And oh yeah, she's also guardian to her two younger siblings. She never has a second to herself and she just can't get ahead. If it's not one thing, it's another. And today, it's the jerkweed who was all condescending and rude to her and the stuff that the book store sells. Which includes erotic stories written by two of her friends. However, she manages to dust herself off so that she can go to work at her second job, bartender at Club Verge.
Liam hates poor service, and so when he stopped to get a cup of coffee and found the woman at the store on the phone to her boyfriend, he was nasty to her. You see, Liam is uber rich and a Dom, and no one treats him with disrespect or says no to him. He felt that Cora, the woman behind the bar, was disrespectful. So when he sees her behind the bar at Verge, and is able to hide his identity from her because it was a Masquerade, he just wants to get to know her better.
I spent a lot of time in this book not really liking Liam a lot. He's really cold and calculating, and just a serious jerk. I really don't like the way that he treats people in general, nor the way that he treats service staff. I do eventually come to like him, but he's definitely not my favorite of Jane Henry's guys. All that being said, I do think that he's fairly good for Cora. He gives her a place where she can lay down her worries and burdens and just let someone else handle everything. For someone who has had to be so in control, like Cora, that has to be a relief.
I really like Cora. I admire her grit and determination. She also is going to fight for what she believes, no matter what. I truly respect her for stepping up and taking care of her sibs.
There was only one thing that I was curious about that didn't get answered, and that's Bailey's teacher who seemed to know something that he shouldn't, and was trying to lecture Cora. I might've liked to see something more from that.
This is what I consider the perfect bdsm romance ... truly more D/s with a little discipline and fun bondage. All consensual. There is no cruelty in this D/s Romance.
What I love is that the h has already been exposed to the life style as she is a bartender in a bdsm club, has good friends in the lifestyle and has been extremely curious, though hesitant to try, even admitting it affects/arouses her before she ever even meets the H (Dom).
The H, although a dominant, is not without understanding. I love that he realizes that her smart mouth is a kind of protection, a wall she's built because she is overwhelmed by responsibility and has never had anyone to take care of her. So though he punishes her for her smart mouth, he also uses it as a mechanism to get her to open up and let go of her fears (not about the lifestyle, but about her responsibilities.).
I love that she is smart, cautious and thinks things through before agreeing to be the H's sub, in spite of her curiosity and the fact that she is in desperate need of the money she would earn as his sub. Her siblings, whom she is responsible for, are her first consideration, part of her negotiation and always her main concern.
I loved how he always came to her rescue and I loved watching them both break Rule #6!
Cora has a lot going on in her life, trying to raise her brother and sister, working two jobs and going to college full time.... it's just time consuming! Meeting up with Liam at he coffee shop she works at instantly ticks her off. He's rude and a jerk, handsome but a jerk. Imagine HIS surprise when he spots her at Verge. After a small scene together, it clicks who he is and she storms off. And so it begins.. they "hate" each other but at the same time, are drawn to each other. Liam can't get her off his mind and when things happen, he finds himself helping her out beyond what he is used to doing. Things conspire against them but will they be strong enough to stand against the storms coming their way? I was instantly drawn into this book and at times wanted to smack both of them. Loved, this book.
Sigh!.....i just love me some Jane Henry! I have to say this is one of my favorite books of hers. Cora and Liam are such well developed and rounded characters, believable and relatable. Liam is closed off, emotionally detached and his relationships are by contract and for a set amount of time. The biggeset rule "don't fall in love", which personally I don't think was for his subs, I think he was afraid to let himself fall in love. In comes Cora, real, hardworking, not impressed by him or his money, student, "parent", loves her family and will do anything for them. Totally out of Liams realm of experiences with women. Liam is not sure what to do with her and his attraction to her, so he falls back into his contract conditions hoping to keep control. The poor man didn't stand a chance, lol. Cora's heart is big and true, her brother and sister lovable and charming and Liam is hooked from his first meeting with them. Cora and her family bring out emotions Liam has never truly experienced before, caring, protective, supportive, loving and more. He finally sees what being a real family can be like (not the cold, emotionally distanced way his family is). Liam's broken his own rule, he not only fell in love with Cora but with her sister and brother as well! Add in incredibly hot chemistry, sexy BDSM scenes, fantastic personalities and a story line that will grab your heart and not let go and we a 10 star book! Well done Ms. Henry!❤❤❤❤❤it!
Cora💃, a barista☕, doesn't realize the tall, sexy, rich jerk who frequents the coffee/book shop is a member of Club Verge, the BDSM club she also works at as a🍸bartender for a second job. Cora💃💋 also cares for her younger brother and sister after their mother OD in prison. All at the same time she is trying to finish college. Talk about multitasking! Only in NYC! Her wages barely pay for their tiny apartment. Sometimes there's no food.
Liam🐺🍆🌋 is the tall, tatted up, rich jerk who perused her at the coffee shop. Later that same 🌙night, he comes into Verge👋 dressed in all black with a mask🎭, because it's masquerade night. Liam🐺🍆🌋👋 always wears a mask🎭 anyway, because he's a very wealthy wall street mogul. He heads right to the 🍸bar and Cora💃💋, crooking his finger at her to come to him. He's a known dominant! He knows Cora💃💋 is a fiesty natural submissive. YEHAW! Liam🐺🍆🌋👋 wants to do something baaaad naaasssty to Cora, but he hasn't figured out what yet! OMG!
ARC Received via Bookfunnel💨 I also got the book with KU.
What a fun sexy book! Can Cora💃💋 tame the big sexy beast that is Liam🐺🍆🌋👋? YEHAW! Ride em Bareback, Cowgirl! 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
I usually don't care for sex club setups but this one was ok, as the intimate stuff happens in the hero's private room. There was quite a bit of build-up to their first sex scene. The hero chases the heroine for the first 50% of the book which I kinda liked and I enjoyed how the author established the characters. Then the second half happened and boy let me tell you what a disappointment that was. This is a kink book but their growing as a kink couple is more or less brushed over. The heroine is a virgin and I didn't mind that her first time was a little, let's say, energetic and violent but I would have preferred the hero to show some decency and tenderness at the right time in the following chapters. The heroine is the sole carer for her two younger siblings and the hero changes from "I want to be alone and don't have any relationship with my contracted subs" to "let's play ready-made family" in a second. While he's not the most outstanding hero in romance-land, he was ok and earned a stronger character growth. Hell, both main MCs needed some serious bonding and growing time, and I as a reader could have wished for more showing and less telling. C-
“‘This is all very Fifty Shades,’ she mutters. ‘Fifty what?’ I ask. ‘Oh, you’re funny,’ she says. ‘As if you don’t know what I’m talking about.’ Of course, I do, but it’s fun to tease her. ‘Cora, I’ve been doing this since Christian Fucking Grey was in diapers.’” --- Jane Henry, Opposition
I love this nod to the BDSM community that's been around "doing this" longer & better than Christian "Fucking" Grey and Anastasia Steele could ever imagine; a community that would blow their minds with the SSC concepts of Respect, Honor, Care, Support, Honesty, Acceptance, and so much more; people who know the lifestyle doesn't have to be born from abuse or childhood trauma and that it's not something that needs to be "fixed!"
I loved the sizzle and snap in this enemies to lovers romance. Liam and Cora's story was filled with kink, steam, drama and intense emotions. Witty banter and a very tangible feeling of "I hate you so why do I want you" keeps you on edge and entertained as you read this enjoyable story. The writing is great and the pacing spot on. Cora was a character that I liked from the start, while Liam had to grow on me. He really was quite the jerk at the start of the book. Really isn't that why we love this type of character so much?! If you enjoy a spicy, BDSM read with lots of feels this book is not to be missed. I am posting a honest and completely voluntary review.
Cora struggles daily just to get by; working two jobs, going to college and being the guardian of her two younger siblings. So when Liam comes into the bookstore she works at for coffee acting all high and mighty, she cops an attitude. He decides to get back at her while she's at her second job at Club Verge, a local BDSM club where she is a bartender. He tricks her and she gets super mad about it. He ends up talking her into an eight week submissive contract and one of the rules is no falling in love. But can you really stop love? This is a great read and I highly recommend it!
I liked this book,Cora is a beautiful young woman with a lot on her plate. Liam is a wealthy entrepreneur. Upon entering the coffee shop where Cora works, they have an instant dislike of each other. They run into each other at club Verge, where Cora part time bar tends. Liam singles Cora out for some dungeon time, only she is unaware it’s him until she spots something familiar. They are both smitten with each other, both have baggage. Upon entering a relationship contract for 8 weeks, it is so much fun seeing how they interact.
Liam Alexander, ruthless businessman and stern Dom, did not count on sassy Cora worming her way into his well ordered life. He wants her but on his terms and only for two months. Cora is juggling two jobs, going to college and raising two siblings by herself. She goes hungry more times than not and is sleep deprived most of the time. Liam makes her an offer she can't refuse because the wolf is at her door. All she has to do is follow his rules especially the one that says don't fall in love with him. Piece of cake, right?
First off, I loved this story. It’s a typical trope: rich guy pays poor girl to be his submissive, yadda yadda yadda, HEA. The characters were really well drawn with a solid plot as their anchor. But, after their first real scene the story jumps six weeks! Like, the author needed to make deadline so let’s just skip to the end. Even left a question unanswered which really annoyed me. In summation, great story with a familiar theme but doesn’t take the time to end as well as it began.
I absolutely love this series and this book is a great addition. The storyline is really good and the characters are strong and you can really relate to them. Oh and did I say that there is a really panty wetting go dom on your ass alpha male to drool over.
I highly recommend this book I couldn't put it down. If I could rate it more than 5 stars I would.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. It was in my recommendations list. I'm not normally into reading BDSM stories but maybe the ones I've been exposed to previously just weren't written well. This story was well done and I like the way the author linked the BDSM activity with the emotions trying to be reached. I will definitely read more of this author :)
I loved reading Jane’s NYC Dom series that’s based on the characters at Verge one of the hottest BDSM clubs in NY. I loved the chemistry between Cora and Liam as they butt heads with each other when they first get together and as they negotiate their way through the contract. This story was too good to put down once started and def can’t wait to read more in this series..
This was one of the best stories in this series. I really enjoyed the getting to know each other parts. It is kinda interesting watching Liam and his college protester learn they both have fallen in love... and broke their contract. Only one complaint really... the ending does lots of time jumping and summary of what happened... it might be even better if they had a collaring at Verge and at least one tour of the new Master Suite. I enjoyed this quite A lot
Cora is working two jobs and going to college full-time and the guardian of her 14 year old sister and 10 year old brother. She's not making ends meet. She's a bartender at a BDSM club and is curious but not part of that scene. Liam meets her and asks for a two month contract to show her the lifestyle. Not falling in love is actually in the contract. Lots of dominant action.
Loved ,Liam and Cora's adventurous love story. A contract leads to falling in love. Liam a true Dom and Cora learning the ropes going to school.taking care of her siblings. Lots on her plate. Liam to help her financially hires her for 8 weeks. Lots of emotions through out.
Verge still a strong places great friends. Guys so connected. It was beautifully written. True love always wins. Thank you Jane. Look forward to you next adventures.
My first read in the series and it was hot, steamy and did not disappoint. I loved the chemistry between the characters that continues to sizzles as they find each other in and out of bed. Going to read the rest of the series now that I discovered an enjoyable and entertaining read.
I love this book and hate it. I love it because all of Ms Henry's books are such excellent reads. Her characters, story lines, and the whole world of the NYC Doms are excellent. I hate it cause now that I'm finished I have to wait for the next one and it can't come too soon.
Wow this book is amazingly fantastic. Liam and Cora are my favorite characters in this series. This book is now my favorite among the NYC Dom series, which is major because I love book 1. Let me say I adore Bailey and Ben. This story is an adventurous journey. The writing and flow of this book is perfect. I absolutely recommend this book
This is a great power play book. Liam teaches Cora how to truly submit. Their story is complex and romantic. Yet so much about the contract between a Dom and his sub. For it shows how committed a really great Dom is to making his sub the true focus. I read this in one day. From a New Fan... Pam James.
If it wasn't for Liam being an ass at the beginning I would have given this one 5 stars. I have a hard time believing that an experienced Dom would be that insensitive and cruel. Thankfully I really grew to love him and he is seriously hot! Cora is such a strong and brave woman. She has the weight of the world on her shoulders and really needs the release that submission brings.
Liam and Cora’s story was so worth it. Watching Cora work so hard and finally get a break and to see how Cora changes Liam. This story was so good. I also live that you get to follow up with the other characters from the other Doms of NY series. Jane Henry did not disappoint. Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St Claire narration is great and has becoming some of my favorite narrators.
Liam and Cora are like fire and gasoline and I love it. She tells him like it is and ticks Liam off. He in turn takes no grief and gives Cora what she needs. The heat between them is great and gets you wishing you were Cora.
Absolutely love this series , this might be my favorite book yet! Cora is so strong ,independent and determined. Liam is all power and control. He like things neat and temporary. The chemistry jumps off the page! I wanted more more more
Great prose about a Dom use to hiding his real self away.
He's rich, never had love and he loves to control a naughty Sub. She doesn't think she is a sub though the lifestyle has intrigued her. She is use to taking care of everything. They are pretty good together.
