Well, „weird, but a reading pleasure“ probably describes this one fairly. Not pleasant to read in passages such as the arrival of the Russians on a Brandenburg farm in April 1945, but very, very disturbingly powerful then. One protagonist is nearly unbearable – but then is she really? So yeah, weird, but intriguing and fun.
I suppose a close reading focussing on, amongst others, the animals, will discover careful scripting. This (scripting) is not immediately apparent to the eye – but it certainly does not stand in the way of a most enjoyable read, either. For more stars, I should have been able to discern it more readily – but then that‘s obviously, possibly, my problem. Tell me if you unravel the threads!
