Luke is a storyteller whose dreams include learning the ways of the Force, becoming a sentient robot, and maybe even one day growing up. Also, lots of zombies… Don't ask.
After studying engineering science at Penn State and neuroengineering at Drexel, Luke finally decided to throw in the towel on actually building a working Iron Man suit, opting instead to simply make things up and write them down. Boy, is he having more fun now.
When he's not holed up in his cave trying to string words together, he can often be found powerlifting, video-gaming, reading, and/or drinking the darkest, most roasty beers he can get his mitts on.
You know what? Enough about Luke. He's not that interesting. But if you'd like to say hi to him for whatever reason, he'd probably be glad to hear from you. Contact him at luke@lukermitchell.com (kind of a silly email address, right?) with questions, critiques, or just a friendly hello!

So ends the trilogy of Wars of Enochia, poignant and compelling story, a wonderful in depth story of Enochians with the political and religious clashes, the rise of the dissidents and their fight with the ragnok, the acceptance of the rising mental powers of some the citizens.. This has been a culmination of a great series, mystery and secrets uncovered, albeit through much bloodshed. I was captivated from the beginning, a hard to put down read!
Luke R. Mitchell has once again shown his prowess at writing an entertaining, thought-provoking, action-packed story. This is the final book of the Enochian Wars series and is an artful conclusion to this enjoyable journey into the world of Haldin, Elise and crew. There are plenty of thrills and good humor along the way! I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in well-written sci-fi/fantasy.
This is book three and the finale of The Enochian War series. Haldin Raish, known as the Demon of Divinity, is famous for all the wrong reasons. The High Cleric is being very selective in using clips of Hal’s actions, most recently in the hybrid massacres and the fight for Oasis, and previously for his escape from execution in the White Tower itself. Now, the Cleric has named all those like Hal, be they Seekers or Shapers, to be demons and the same as the Raknoth which Hal and his friends have been fighting against.
It seems not many believe the stories of the Raknoth and blame Hal and his fellow Shapers for all the problems and the High Clerics have hidden any evidence of the Raknoth and their actual influence within the Sanctum. The High Cleric uses the White Tower as a staging post to declare holy war on all demon kind, with Haldin the prime suspect to be hunted down. All followers of Alpha are encouraged to turn in any demons and join the fight against this mass evil in their midst.
As Hal, Elise, Johnny, their friends, colleagues and family are sent into hiding, even as they are stil trying to find the remaining Raknoth and destroy them. Alton Parker, the one Raknoth they know the identity of has given himself up and is being held captive. He will only speak to Haldin! Garrett and Siren, former Seekers, have also joined the small group, but Hal and his group still have to get used to them and Parker supposedly being on their side. After all of those guys have tried to kill Hal and his friends multiple times!
What those at the Sanctum don’t understand and have no wish to understand, if they kill all the so called Demons, there will be no defence against the Raknoth and the even more powerful Rakul. Blindly living by their faith and putting out negative clips of attacks, covering up all the good Hal and his group have done and avoiding publishing any data regarding the threat from the Raknoth, has left the rest of the citizens all against the ‘demons’. Hal and his group of so called allies, need to work together against the beliefs of the people of Enochia and the fanatics hunting them. Hal is stuck in a place he can’t be free or trust many people. The whole planet is a no go zone for him.
Where he will go and who will go with him is yet to be explored. You need to read the book and maybe catch up with the Harvester series to find more out about the Raknoth and the importance of the Children of Enochia. Sad to see this part of the saga ending after just three books, but if you have read from the start of the author’s books, you can see where this one would end up and its place in the storyline. Another fantastic, action packed and relationship driven epic read. I want to see what the author is going to come up with next. Whether that will be back to any previous characters storylines or not, I’ll have to wait and see! Well worth a read. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
I’ve read all the books in the Harvester and Enochian war series. Children of Enochia is a good conclusion to not only Enochian war but also the Harvesters series. For those who haven’t read all the books, the good news is that each book really stands on it’s own. Each comes to a reasonable resolution. However, there are a few threads that snake through all the books. All the loose ends are sorted out by the conclusion of Children of Enochia.
Children of Enochia is a good story with the main characters, especially the narrator and primary character, Haldin, being well drawn out. Haldin is involved in several action sequences involving aliens, reactionary religious forces, shadowy ancient organizations, and crazy ass zealots. But there is also introspection and calm moments with Haldin working to understand his place in the universe and how he can best help the people he loves and his home, Enochia.
The other interesting character development involves an alien who has gone from being the ultimate source of evil and pain on Enochia to an ally of the humans. The author could have taken the easy way out and merely had the character just decide to leave his life of evil behind and begin to do good works. Instead, as the plot unfolds, it is clear this not just a change of heart but rather the calculus of self-interest by an amoral, near-immortal creature. Best character development in the book.
The bottom line is that the book is fun, plenty of action, and resolution of plot threads remaining across the series. All in all a satisfying conclusion to the 8 book series.
How Hal, Alton and Elise got from Enochia to Earth... together
The last we saw them, in the second book of this series, Alton was Hal and Elise’s (and all humans’) mortal enemy. But having read the author’s Harvester series first, I knew Alton and the Enochians who traveled to Earth were allies. Friends, even.
It was a shock to see Alton as such an evil bad guy in this series!
Which made his character arc particularly intriguing.
Garrett’s and Alexia’s as well (read the novella, Garrett, to see his story from his POV—a good read!)
My complaints about Children of Enochia are that Hal’s impact on the world feels way too powerful. I find it hard to buy that anyone would cause such universal hatred on an entire planet. Heck, some percentage of people probably aren’t even plugged into the news! And opinions are simply never that unified. Besides, people don’t have long attention spans—in a few months, or a few years, his supposed crimes would be forgotten.
So the idea that he has to leave the entire planet? It feels ridiculous. It makes a great plot point, but it doesn’t make sense, logically.
The book also gets a bit rambly. But other than that, it’s a fun adventure, with lots of adrenaline, some plot twists, and well-drawn characters. Luke R. Mitchell’s books are always good reads. 👍
This series was such a ridiculously fun ride. So much adventure. Thoroughly interesting world building. Loveable (or, in some cases, love-to-hateable) characters. And! It avoided the pitfall of so many prequel-type stories that have a harder time building tension because the reader knows something of what happens next. I'm definitely looking forward to whatever Mr. Mitchell writes next.
I liked it. Good ending, though a slow one. What does a hero do when their job is done? Why is Superman stopped all crime? What would he do then? That’s a little of what our protagonist faces in this book. He’s not really needed, and he has to face it. That’s an interesting story to tell, but not a very exciting one.
So this is book 3 and I enjoyed it as much as the rest. Everything I have read by Luke Mitchell was well crafted and a great adventure. Keeping these in my library.
Wonderful expansion of author's "HARVESTER series" superior world-building,and character development/world-building skills shown throughout the entire series..(do yourself a favor, and start with SOLDIER OF CHARITY to start in on the reading fun) Loved this series from the start!! I refuse to believe it's over! Regardless,an entertaining, excellent read.
