A dragon shifter series set in the same world as The Bride Hunt books
Sad and depressed about where her life is taking her, Demi decides to go for a long run in the forest. Stretching her legs helps clear her mind. It helps unravel the stress building inside her. One terrible moment in time has changed everything. She can’t come to terms with what’s expected of her. Her whole life is suddenly leading to one moment. One destiny that was never meant to be hers. One she doesn’t want. One she can’t escape.
Lost in her own thoughts, she realizes too late that a vicious beast has been hunting her. A shifter of a different kind. This one is massive, and scaly, with wings as wide as the bridge over Vale Creek. His mouth is filled with long, sharp teeth. He has murder in his eyes, which are focused on her. Demi has always been led to believe that dragons are majestic creatures. Strong yet compassionate. Not this one! This dragon is savage. A beast so feral he’s having trouble shifting back into his human form.
Even though there is little chance of survival, Demi is going to fight him with everything she has. A wolf shifter is, after all, no match against a powerful beast such as this. Little does she know, he has no intention of killing her. In fact, the opposite is true. If she knew what he was thinking, she’d run faster, fight harder.
Contains hot alpha males and therefore strong sexual themes/language. Ends on a mini-cliffhanger!

Obsidian....I mean come on with a name like that you know this is going to be a stellar MC!
This was every bit what I wanted from this character. Fell in love with Obsidian in book 1 of the "Earth Dragons", for that reason I immediately started book 2. One of the smartest things I have done this week! Such a protector! One of the rare MCs who protects his mate physically and emotionally. His acceptance of Demi's need to be heard, to have a decision for her future filled my heart. The complete devotion to her and the page melting scenes were swoon worthy.
Best couple so far! Demi by far was a perfect mate for Obsidian. She has suffered such a great loss, followed by her life being taken over by the alphas in her pack. Being in her "fur" is the only place she feels free, just as Obsidian only feels free in his scales. *sigh* true love.
So much happens in this book. Many *gasp* moments followed by *awwww* moments rounded off with several *why doesn't my man every do that* thoughts....lol
Enjoyable and amusing, I love these shifter books . This wasn’t quite as good as the first in the series but good non the less . Obsidian finally sorts his act out and takes the plunge finding a mate in the most unlikeliest Wolf , one already taken, at least in word if not deed . It’s a good story with steamy bits throughout, and one I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
Savage Guard is the second amazing book in the Earth Dragons series, which follows The Bride Hunt series. The story revolves around dragons who meet the one and their lives are changed forever. But there are dramas along the way. That's when the fun begins.
While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters must fight to stay alive, but what they discover is even more significant than they ever imagined.
I love the strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles!
If one thing is sure Mrs Charlene Hartnady never fails to deliver badass but kind and caring alpha shifter and their strong mate. This story took a different turn from the previous one, it was still steamy hot but it was more an introspection about what is right to do, what is one’s duty and how far one can go. I loved Obsidian, he is a loner because of his strength and his too close symbiosis with his dragon but it does not make him a bad person, just a little awkward when among others but never he will hurt voluntary someone. His dragon recognized in Demi his late long before they both understood their own feelings. I had some problems to warm to Demi, sure she is grieving her late sister but her inability to make a real choice and stand true for herself, she went back and forth. She won me when she was ready to sacrifice herself to save Obsidian. I’m now very curious about the next book to come in June. 4.5 stars
Although I am a massive fan of this series and all of the ones that came before this book, this one was a little off for me. I have been waiting for Obsidian story for a long time, and I was so happy to see his book come out that I couldn't wait to read it. However, I somehow felt a little cheated. Obsidian almost turned weak as soon as he met Demi. I get that meeting your mate changes you, but I don't know, I guess I expected a little more from such a big and intense dragon.
Moreover, Demi while she is a strong female but with the heartache, she was going through I felt there wasn't enough of a pull for her and Obsidian to get together. I mean there was what two months for them to not even be together. For Obsidian that must have been horrible, especially if you have read the other books, that is like death for the dragons. How did such a great dragon leave his mate for that long?
So yes I read this book, but it was not one of my favorites. However, it did leave me with hope for the next one.
Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book two of six in The Earth Dragons series. (Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

It’s her one opportunity for escape, even though there is little chance of survival, Demi is going to fight him with everything she has. Little does she know, he has no intention of killing her, in fact, the opposite is true, for if she knew what he was thinking, she’d run faster, fight harder. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
A dragon and a wolf caught in unfortunate circumstances in their lives.Obsidian is the twin brother of Mountain in Dragon Guard. Obsidian is call Savage by the dragons because he is so strong and is brutal when they spar. He has removed himself from them that his beast is taking over. His twin worries about him. Demi, a wolf, has suffered the death of her betrothed sister. She can't work through the her sadness and the nightmares she has every night. She is expected to step in her sisters place of marrying her deceased sister's betrothed Cody from the bear clan. She can't see herself follow through even though it is required by both clans. Obsidian sees Demi and takes an interest. When Demi lays eyes on Obsidian, she sees a good, kind, funny and sexy dragon. Something that Obsidian hasn't ever been described. After spending a few hours together, Obsidian knows he needs to take care of and protect Demi. Demi has never felt cared for or protected by any wolves she has been with. They both share hardships with their families and clans but not necessarily the same things. The relationship that develops between them is not an easy one but you can see that is would be one meant to be and one that is a match. Great characters in this book especially Obsidian and Demi. Lots of action, humor, companionship and hot scenes. Love these books by Charlene Hartnady and definitely recommend. Can't wait for the next Earth Dragons book. I purchased this ebook as well.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
Demi, a shifter, releases fear and frustration by running freely in her wolf form. The fear arises from her family, pack and a bear alpha pressuring her to mate against her will. Frustration being all of them refusing to listen to her begging and pleas that she did not love the alpha because he had been engaged to marry her sister, Brie, prior to the car accident that took her life. Demi knew he only wanted to mate her as a means of replacing Brie, and that he had never truly accepted her demise. Brie had been head Alpha of her clan, and had become favored to wed the favored Alpha of the bear clan as part of tradition. Upon her death, Demi became next in line to complete that task despite her feelings. After another heated argument with her family and bear alpha, Demi shifts into her furs and runs off to cool down. Obsidian, a dragon shifter, watches with awe and admiration as the wolf below him runs gracefully and athletically over rocks, fallen logs and around trees. His dragon urges him on to capture the female as he flys over her. Captivated, Obsidian drops down in front of Demi and because she is startled and afraid, she tumbles and strikes her head becoming unconscious. This is an unusual plot with surprising turns. It's a page turner and best read when you have time to finish it because it's hard to put down.
This was another fun story in the series... I kinda wish there was a bit more about the integration of a wolf into the Dragon Lair, and what will the offspring have as special powers... They never mentioned any of the interesting Bride Hunt mystery over the offspring... I love Obsidian he is excellent and perfect for his wolf... It would have been fun to see him interact with her brother Serge too. But I kinda was a little let down with the finish of their story... It just seemed like a lot just happened in between one chapter finish and the beginning of the next... I was hoping to see her introduction to the Lair and to Page... What about when she found out she was pregnant... And how did their mating ceremony go... After all they went through surely that was important... I still love Charlene Hartnady but just a tiny bit wishing she had added one more chapter at the ending. It all seems to happen just not in the actual story. I am looking forward to Shade story... It might be very intriguing.
Can I just say that this author never fails me? She can write about anything and make it funny, sexy and emotional as hell! Thank you!!!
Character breakdown;
Obsidian: I knew I wanted to get to know this dragon since the last book! But I did not expect the dragon I met! He was funny, sexy and pretty dirty lol. I LOVED him!
Demi: I liked her to a point there were times I wanted to beat her over the head with my kindle. Now listen, people make stupid decisions but sometimes I questioned this one. I will give her this though, she was devoted and never have up on those she loved.
Favorite Quote: Obsidian shifted. It was difficult. It hurt. Shifting with an erection was not an easy feat.
This book is worth everything!! Definitely check it out you'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll get hot and bothered.
Oh my! Obsidian was such a good surprise. It was completely unexpected what this story would turn out to be after the cliff hanger in Mountain's book. Demi is a strong-natured wolf shifter who catches his eye and who also happens to be promised to the alpha of the bear clan. The responsibility for lasting peace and unity of the joint packs rest on her shoulders after an unfortunate tragedy strikes her family. Unfortunately Obsidian just happens to meet her face to face when she's most vulnerable and that set him on a path that could lead to a war between the species. The story that follows is rife with passion but has many tense situations that the main character must go through before they can find any sort of happiness.

This is definitely one of my favorites from this writer. Honestly, I often either really like her stories or really dislike them. Demi was someone I really got interested in and someone in a really tough situation. Obsidian was also someone that I really liked learning more about and the two together were a great story. They went through a lot to get their happy ending and the wasn’t the focus on casual and meaningless sex in this story or by either of the main characters that generally just turns me off. Not sure I’ll be reading the next one about Shale, as he seems like a total community dick to me and frankly her storylines that revolve around the characters like him, and around endless meaningless sex are the ones I like the least.
I suggest you start reading from the beginning with The Bride Hunt series or even the The Program. It is the best way to enjoy and really embrace this world Ms. Hartnady has created.
The storyline was creative, realistic, and a bit sensitive in some areas, but it totally worked in developing Obsidian's character. There were situations/scenes described to appear a certain way that may be sensitive to some people. They weren't overdone and they weren't overly explicit. Considering the topic, I think she did a great job in writing it without going to far and again without having to be too explicit. I love her characters and how realistic they come together. She gave them time and space to grow and develop. I'm am so looking forward to Dragon Whelps, that one is gonna be a real doozy. Happy Reading!
Obsidian leaves his brother’s mating ceremony quickly as he prefers being in his beast form as opposed to his skin. When he takes to the skies, he hopes to catch a glimpse of the female wolf shifter. However, when he spots her, something inside him urges him to hunt and take her.
Demi is sad because of everything that’s happened in the last year and as a result she’s not sleeping well and now she’s expected to step up into a role she never wanted, under duress. When Obsidian chases her she fears for her life but once they both shift....their desires take on a life of their own❣️
A complex story that is well written, captivating and emotional. Loved Demi and Obsidian and the ending packed a punch 🥊 Can’t wait to see what happens next for Shale😍
So I am not sure where to start with this book. It put me through the wringer emotionally! The beginning kicks off with a very detailed and emotional scene. I love seeing how Demi and Obsidian's relationship develops. At the same time throughout the story I go from feeling bad for Cody, to loathing Cody, to feeling for him again. This book is probably my second favorite book by Charlene Hartnady. She takes you on an emotional journey. This story deals with real issues which I love at the same time Charlene keeps the story light enough not to let the romance of the story get dragged under!
I read an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Charlene Hartnady has done it again! Another great addition to the dragon series! Obsidian spends more time dragon than human, but he has his reasons. Demi is a wolf who is trapped. She is grieving and is not able to make her own choices. Obsidian may be savage but he sees more than others. This is a book that will hook you from the first page! You definitely will not want to put it down once you start it! There is so much going on in this story, and it will make your heart race!! I highly recommend reading this book, the first earth dragon book, and then all of the other dragon books! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
Oh how I really enjoyed this story. Obsidian turned out to be so much better than anyone could guess. The right female will do wonders to any beast. Demi turned out to be able to connect with a side of him no one else could find. Mountain found other sides of his brother but the true connection came with Demi. The whole bear wolf pack contract was just whack. Demi's father was the worst for not even listening to his daughter. Unfortunately that happens way too often. The story has hot sex, a new friendship that goes beyond, a mating to end trust, a great mating, total misunderstanding and a few big surprises.
Savage Dragon: Earth Dragons Series: Book 2 By Charlene Hartnady Kindle unlimited purchase It has been a year since Demi's older sister, Brie, died in a terrible accident. Brie and her fiance, Cody, we're driving home from Sweetwater when Cody lost control of the car. It has been a difficult year for the two packs. Obsidian likes being in his dragon more than his skin. He hardly talks anymore. It's all grunts with him until he meets a sad wolf in the forest. The way Demi and Obsidian met was wild. They couldn't keep their hands to themselves. And because of this I recommend that readers be over the age of 18. :( sorry.
Demi and Obsidian's meeting was purely accidental but it had potential to be so much more. This was a story with plenty of emotions on display. Grief was unmistakable throughout the majority of the tale as each character handled their grieving differently. It was easy for the reader to be swept up in the melancholy mood set by the author. I enjoyed the very likeable dragon, Obsidian and the object of his affection, Demi. This was an extremely interesting and pleasant book that ended way too fast.!!!!!
Oh how I love these dragons. We met Obsidian in his brother Mountain's book. He is a loner and spends a lot of time in his dragon form. Demi is a wolf shifter dealing with the tragic death of her sister. She also likes to spend a lot of time in her animal form. Obsidian has been watching Demi run in her animal form for a few weeks. He is drawn to her they are kindred spirits. I really enjoyed this story. Seeing the connection between them and how hard and fast Obsidian fell for her. Great addition to the series!
This book was much better than Dragon Guard. I connected with the characters as a couple more than the previous ones. I do hate that it ended so soon after starting the book, but it was a short book, more like a novella to me. This book restored my wanting to read the next book but to my dismay, it’s not out yet! I try to not read a series until all the books are out, but I somehow didn’t check that status out before I started this series. Bummer for me! I do recommend this novella/short story series since it’s KU.
This one was interesting since it is a Dragon and Wolf.
I did get fairly tired of Cody and all the drama with that. Wish that could have been a shorter part of the story. I understand why it was in their and it was the main story line, it just felt like it dragged on more than I would have liked.
I really like Demi and Obsidian together. He reminds me a lot of his twin Mountain, both are so sweet and patient.
Over all I think I really like the earth dragons of all the dragons, they seam to be slower to anger and are willing to wait.
Really enjoyed this story plot. Found the characters to be really relatable, strong, and fun. This is another standalone story from this author. I like the Demi’s character is a strong female character. Really enjoyed Obsidian’s character’s and how even though he may have started out as more dragon than others he knows how to treat a female and he’d give his all for her. For those who like shifter romance, you will not be disappointed with this read.
I loved this clash of Obsidian & Demi. Both Shifters who prefer to be in shifter form & Obsidian has been struggling with his human side. He appeared in the previous book so it was inevitable that he would get his own story but he is so hot in his own right. I love this Earth Dragon series & in fact all of the Dragon Shifters so cannot wait for the next one that already has me wanting to read it. Loved Obsidian as a dragon with issues appeals every time
Obsidian has always been a bit of a loner. It isn't until he comes across Demi, a black wolf from the wolf pack, that his dragon raises its head in search of its mate. But Demi is promised to another. Her sister was meant to mate the new Alpha but unfortunately died in a car accident, and so he has settled for taking her a second choice. Can a mere bear alpha stand in between the dragon and the wolf shifter it loves? Recommended read!
Liked reading Obsidian’s book. I didn’t like the back and forth in the story but it’s understandable. I took off a star for grammar errors. I always read whatever Charlene Hartnady puts out and it never disappoints.
If just finding this series, I suggest you start at the beginning, before we even met Earth dragons and shifters, in mated to the vampire king. It has several spine offs but I found it better to read in order, plus every story is great!
This was a good one! I love Obsidian. So big and mean looking and completely misunderstood. Demi is also in a pickle. She’s being forced to mate with the bear alpha when that’s the last thing that she wants to do. All it takes is one moment for things to change. A fight, a rescue, a clash of ultimate feelings. Then it looks falls apart and it looks like they’ll both be chained forever. It’s a really good story. Loved this one!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. For starters the storyline is great. I've read stories where the shifter is insane or possessed, however, there aren't many that touch upon a shifter being depressed etc...... I like the strength and intelligence of Demi. There's such a sweetness to how the relationship evolves between her and Obsidian, that it makes the build up towards their HEA, that much more pleasurable.
Another good book in this spin off series Obsidian is Mountains twin brother he is known as Savage as he spends more time in his Dragon form than his human and does not talk much or interact with others too much and is thought of as turning feral. Things become interesting when he meets a wolf female who herself is suffering difficulties these two have immediate hot chemistry. It's an interesting story with twists and turns a good read.
