When Pepper Dunn purchases a cat figurine at a yard sale, she has no idea what she’s in store for. First, a crazy woman tells Pepper that owning the item will get her killed, then Pepper discovers the item is haunted by the spirit of a dead cat.

As if things couldn’t get worse, when a murder is traced back to the cat figurine, it looks like owning the object may in fact, get Pepper killed. But Pepper is no coward—she won’t back away from a situation simply out of fear.

But life becomes more complicated when Pepper’s personal life gets out of whack. Turns out Grandma Betty has a secret admirer and Betty is intent on discovering that person’s identity, even if it means she’s tracking a killer.

Then Axel makes a proposal that freaks Pepper out. Will she finally accept the fact that she and Axel are meant for happily ever after? Or will solving a murder not only get in the way of her happiness, but also get her killed?

Hey, I’m Amy,
I write books for folks who crave laugh-out-loud paranormal mysteries. I help bring humor into readers’ lives. I’ve got a Pharm D in pharmacy, a BA in Creative Writing and a Masters in Life.
And when I’m not writing or chasing around two small children (one of which is four going on thirteen), I can be found antique shopping for a great deal, getting my roots touched up (because that’s an every four week job) and figuring out when I can get back to Disney World.
If you’re dying to know more about my wacky life, here are three things you don’t know about me.
—In college I spent a semester at Marvel Comics working in the X-Men office.

"Southern Hauntings" is the 11th book in Amy Boyles' series "Sweet Tea Witches Mysteries." Another great addition to this series. I never know where Amy is going to go with it, but she does an amazing job. I liked how Pepper's grandma, Betty, has a secret admirer and will do anything to figure out who it is. I really like Pepper and Axel's relationship and how they are becoming closer and closer and use each other to figure things out. I can't wait to read the next book.

I really like this series it is so well written and this book was no exception. This time Pepper buys a familiar figurine at a yard sale that can trap a familiar in it so they can travel easily. When an old lady, who tries to warn Pepper who ever owns the figurine dies, dies Pepper with help from her family and Axel looks to solve the murder.

I love Pepper as a main character and love her cousins and Grandma. Their antics make me smile. I love the familiars in the book like Mattie the cat and Hugo the dragon. The story line is very well written and a quick fun easy read. The story line had twists and turns and side stories all that kept me wondering almost to the end.

I still can't bring myself to like Axel. I really liked him at the start of the series but now since he is wants to mate Pepper he is just becoming a controlling alpha male who seems to do nothing else but tell Pepper what to do. Saying I love you and then trying to tell her what to do all the time is a way to show your love.

A familiar feeling

Terrific. A great read with a nice tight plot although I must admit that I had guessed the culprit a out 3/4 through the read. Nevertheless an enjoyable read that ends with a bit of a teaser for the next book. But it would be great if Betty did meet someone - preferably someone with a similar character to hers. Would make for fireworks and a few chuckles.
A yard sale leads our main character to take possession of an artifact. An artifact sought after by others. It leads her to not only gaining a ghost cat, meeting members of a society she hadn't heard of, getting warnings and murder. Why did someone kill the old witch? We're her warnings real? Then to top things off the ghost cat calmly informs her that his owner isn't dead. So where is he? Meanwhile Betty is getting gifts from a secret admirer and has wedding dreams whilst Axel too has dreams of a wedding. His and hers. Is she ready?

The entire problem revolves around a critter carrier. It's a small device that can carry the essence of a familiar. There's also the possibility that whoever carries it will die.

Of course Pepper ends up with it. If that wasn't enough of a problem for here it seems there's a ghost cat around, a murder, a possible murder, a possible kidnapping, a Head Witch Order that steals power from other witches and that hates werewolves, Rufus and of course people that want to get the critter carrier away from Pepper.

Then there's Betty who thinks she has a secret admirer and tries to find out what it is. To me Betty is a pretty weak character and there's not really anything about her that makes me think she's a character that the series really needs.

Other than her I like this book as much as I liked the other books in the series.

Southern Hauntings is the eleventh book in the Sweet Tea Witch Mysteries series by author Amy Boyles. I have found that I enjoy the author and how they write and approach the stories.

Pepper and Axel are still in this relationship that she is absolutely terrified to take anywhere more than were it is now, which is basically your typical high school frustrated relationship. There is another murder that they end up solving and in the process we learn more and more about the family.

Although I have loved this series, I was a little disappointed in this book and the whole wishy-washy way that Pepper is treating Axel. Just not sure I want to read anymore of that, I just want her to be an adult and make a choice and stick with it no matter what, good or bad.

entertaining Supernatural Cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and then entertaining storyline. Pepper done is a witch who lives in a supernatural town in the south. She lives with her grandmother and two cousins. She owns and runs the local familiar shop. Her boyfriend is a private investigator and one of her cousins is dating the chief of police. Her grandmother is one of the powers behind the town. We gone and follow the adventures of pepper and her family as they stop evil from invading their town and saw all the different mysteries and crimes that happen around town. Oh and by the way she has a small dragon for a familiar. Check it out it’s a very entertaining and fun series

This is amazing!

This addition is incredible. While Pepper still hasn’t put much effort into learning to utilize her magic, she is an amazing sleuth.
Pepper hasn’t really taken her responsibilities as seriously as she needs to. She had started off on the right path, but somewhere along the way, she became more caught up in solving murders than becoming a responsible witch or even a responsible owner of a familiar. Pepper has been backsliding to her former personality before her powers kicked in and it is costing her in ways she never dreamed of.
Other than that disappointing advent, I still love the characters even when some lack initiative and follow through.
An excellent series with vibrant and larger than life personalities and smart mouthes.
Family friendly!

So, I think my stay in Magnolia Cove has come to an end for now! I love these Novella style books so much, but I really like buying them in a box set! Now that I’ve completed book eleven; I’ve noticed there’s 25 books in the series. The only problem are a lack of box sets. So for now I’ll be taking a break! I liked this installment but wasn’t totally in love with it. I did like that the story centered around a trinket holding the spirit of an animal, but I didn’t like a lot of the roles our favorite family of magic played. I might just be burnt out on the books and I’m sure that’s what it was but I wasn’t super compelled to buy the next one after this.

As always, the wonderfully funny cast of characters made this book stand out and made me laugh out loud multiple times. From Gramma Betty having a secret admirer, to a talking ghost cat, there are many endearing and hilarious moments found. I didn't love Axel's possessive "alpha-ness" towards Pepper here, but he did realize that it was toxic and will be working on changing that in future, so I was ok with it in the end as we got to see some character development along those lines. I am really enjoying binging this series, and every read is unique enough that I never feel like it's formulaic, and I'm often surprised with the reveals.

What's A critterling?

Well, you learn something new every day. I've learned that reading these Sweet Tea Mysteries is really stomping on my craving button. I am always craving all of the good Southern foods Pepper enjoys! I've never heard of this critterling everyone seems to want, even willing to kill for it, but Pepper is on her game balancing her avoidance of the M word with Axel and her overwhelming sense of curiosity! Great funny, quick read that helps chase away the isolation blues! 😍

Pepper so obviously has anxiety, like come on guys I think it’s time for her to get a therapist and some medication. Also she’s solving a different murder like every week and getting attacked and stuff? Like she needs some therapy stat
Anyways I guessed it again!! Ingrid being the murderer was pretty obvious, even for this series. It was kind of weird when they found Albert in the shed tho? Like I couldn’t tell if he was trying to help them or go along with Ingrid
Anyways, I want axel and pepper to just get married at this point like I’m tired of all this beating around the bush

Another fun book in the series. Clever and creative. It was nice to have Pepper and Cordelia together at the final confrontation.

My only critique was the rushed ending and abrupt insertion of Rufus. The first mention of him really came out of left field and it was a bit disappointing that Axel didn't end up in the forest with them. He never would have left Pepper alone after they discovered the ladder and even if he did, no way he'd have his phone off or not answer.

Getting old.

Aside from the story, the relationship s between the main characters stay biting my the same. It's clear how Rufus and Axel will be achingly in our heroines heart just like it was from the start. And the whole.agonizing over Mating.. Good grief.. How old.is she? Go forward or stop. Just don't stay the same..

Another fun read

Ghost cat, an old friend, a secret admirer a twisty mystery, all lead to a fun read. More development in Pepper and Axel's relationship. Pepper still needs to learn some of her magic, especially for the looming threat that is coming.
Let's hope she gets it together soon.

I recommend the series.

I totally twisted plot That will keep you intrigued from beginning to end.

Once again our heroin works on the unraveling The mysteries of the artifact known as the critterling. How does it work and what can you do? Keep turning the pages and find out. Find a comfortable chair open your book and immerse yourself in this mystery, enjoy.

Hooked on a series!

I can’t read these books fast enough! Most stories are the same ole thing just written with different characters. This series is a roller coaster gone wild! Always entertaining and keeps me guessing. This one threw me a curve I didn’t see. A pleasant one. Highly recommend this storyline-but please...start from the beginning!

Love the series

This series is filled with a variety of characters. Grandma Betty will either have you tearing your hair out or rolling off your chair with laughter. The familiars are hoot too, from a store filled with the normal variety to a dragon for Pepper, the main witch character.

Time for the heroine to step up!

I completely enjoy this series; however, Pepper needs to grow in maturity and power. The storylines are always imaginative, and the family foolishness is fun, but refusing to get a handle on a power that people will kill for places Pepper firmly in the category of TSTL. Poor Axel deserves better!

The familiar ghost

In this book Pepper gets a powerful artifact. Rufus is back and Axel wants to get married. Pepper is warned that people might want to kill her for the artifact and then someone dies. She tries to figure out who the murderer is and who Betty's secret admirer is. I love Amty Boyles books.

Another great book

I am so addicted to this series. I have purchased every one of them! They have mystery, intrigue, magic, twists you don't see coming and a whole lot of sass. They are clean so the younger ones can read them. If you are looking for a great can't out down book, I suggest you start this series. Highly recommend!

eh

This one was harder to get into than the other ones. It took me longer to read as well just since I was probably burnt out from some of the others. It was cute but kind of repetitive at this point. Pepper is annoying me with not wanting to learn her magic or talk to Axel about marriage or mating or any of that. But at least she and Rufus are friends again.

Slow start..potential spoiler

The start was kind of wonky but she really did a good job of tying up loose ends this time .... I do miss the fact that she excluded sylvestor the snake from an end. Yes it was implied, not quite the same. I'm really glad she brought Rufus back!! That Pepper is standing up for herself and not just blindly taking orders from Axel. ...Reading on!!

The twist I was waiting for

Without giving away a spoiler it will be hard to leave a good review. I purchased this book along with book10, in book 10 it didn’t go as I thought it would and so my review was less than it should have been and I will be editing it to a 5 star. You need to read book 11 along with 10 before leaving a review. Looking forward to book 12.

Another good one

I love this series but it does get on my nerves how Pepper is so whiny about her power s. I would really like to see her become more of a bad ass and up her game with her magic!

Each book in this series has been a delight and I always enjoy reading every one of them. Pepper loved in a very southern witchy town that has all kinds of crazy, zany citizens. I love the characters and I a.ways enjoy the mystery.

The end is near

This book was a laid back easy read. I lampshade moving on because it will be the last in this series. I will have to say goodbye to these characters which I feel I know personally. But this book points to the end.
