About the author

C.T. Barney

1 book1 follower
C.T. Barney discovered writing as one of her passions during the summer of 2016 while enrolled in a stress management class. Several exercises required the students to carry a notebook around and scribble down thoughts and observations to practice being mindful. Long after the course ended, the notebook stayed at her side. Her notes inspired the creation of scenarios, characters, and eventually the idea for the Cleo series.

Barney was born in Las Vegas but lives and writes in Oregon with her frugal husband and two hungry sons.

I had my doubts going into the book. The cover looked science fiction-y, and so far I've never enjoyed that genre.
It ended up just being a fun read with a lot of relatable relationship problems for a teen girl with her family and friends. Cleo struggles to be herself, or even know herself.
I really liked the relationship between Cleo and her brother Alex. I also really liked Patrick. He seemed comfortable with himself.
The real plot of the story is that Cleo has always had strange sleepwalking experiences that she can't remember. During those times she seems to be someone else. This part of the story went slowly and didn't resolve. I didn't mind the pace of the mystery/fantasy/science fiction part of storyline because I liked the fairly natural progression of the relationships surrounding the characters.
Hopefully this is a series, or I'd definitely drop the rating because the end of the book is abrupt and without resolution.
*Some swearing, teen drinking, sexual assault (not rape). But still overall pretty clean.

I was drawn to this book by the cover and after reading the Synopsis I felt it would be a good read. I definitely liked Cleo as a character although she did frustrate me at times, but that’s the life of a teenage girl trying to fit in the conformity of normal peer pressure life. I loved her brother and thought he was a great mix to the story and had good humor. I loved Patrick the best friend and he was very sweet and loved his role in the books. I cannot wait to see what is in store next as The story continues so I will be awaiting the next books. I love the sci-fi appeal of this book and cannot wait to further explore that. I feel this book does a good job at approaching peer pressure, social conformity , dating pressure , and finding yourself in your teen years, I do recommend this book and look forward to seeing what happens to Cleo and the clan next .
