Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
I received a advance ARC copy from the author for my honest review. Realize that I'm reading an uncorrected advance and it won't be like the what's released.
I get it that the author uses his imagination but some scenes in his Sean Wyatt books, you can't ignore the stupidity of just what he described and in real life it just doesn't work that way.
Plus as I'm reading, just dumbfounded at several places were Dempsey easily could have made the intertwining storylines better verse the way he did it and left a few out.
Even better while you have the FBI, along other law enforcement looking for Sean, he could have had the new president secretly put a team together looking for him to protect him, aid him to finding what he was looking for and help rescue the former president.
In typical Dempsey fashion, he grabs you with the prologue about Meriwether Lewis but for whatever reason he doesn't jump right into the story, you end up with Tom and Sean rock climbing in the Prentice Cooper State Forest near Chattanooga, TN and even with Sean's fear of heights.
Buried in the rock climbing scene is the kidnapping of former President John Dawkins in his remote cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia and a shame that Dempsey didn't start with the kidnapping verse the way he did with 'The Omega Project'.
Oh bloody hell, at the point were you learn how badass the bad guy and his team is. So William Boyd lives in two Condo's in Seattle, yet he lives in a four thousand square foot cabin in the woods and is hurting financial. So yet he's selling one of the condo's for money, although the author talks about the billions he's worth, been able to buy influence and basically can do things normal people can't.
Then you realize later in the story that he was recruited by the Commander of the Navy, so you have a multi-layered of the bad guys, that Sean and Tommy find themselves up against.
Finally a new twist with Sean being set-up, yet Dempsey made a mistake also with Adriana. While climbing Sean has no idea were she is, but yet she's at their house sleeping in and he tips her off to get out of the house. With his Wife being trained by her agent father since her youth fight and survival skills. Just seems dumb that she leaves with the clothes on her back, jumps into Sean's new Audi and that it can be traced back to him.
With her background, just seems more realistic that she has a war bag for a fast getaway. Plus that they would have an untraceable car being listed under one of their other alias names, have a cache of weapons in it, be fueled up, maintained and ready to go at any minute. Especially since there is a way to escape with a vehicle out the back of the property.
Yet Sean is driving Tommy's SUV, he's in St. Louis puzzling over how to get word or update Adriana on what's going on and would figure something out when he calls Tommy later in the day
Just so much needless writing. Hypes up the Admiral and William Boyd's planned to ruin Sean but in typical Dempsey fashion, Sean will conquer the mentally fucked up dude in the simplest possible way and just way too predictable of a read.
It's like 'The Omega Project' reads like it's pieced together, it's seems like he recycles storylines, makes changes to it and the flow isn't fast paced.
Yesterday, I suffered through jury duty, actually repeatedly falling a sleep reading this, watched another juror next to me devouring 'It' and woke up today mad at myself for trying to finish it, verse just bring up something else on my phone's kindle app.
I'll be honest! Just find Dempsey way too boring, predictable, he offers very little new things, when he does it's buried in the same tired storylines, and he easily could have written this in 30 to 35 chapters verse the overkill with it being 49.
Another great story by Ernest Dempsey! This one had me gasping with shock, worrying about some of my favorite characters and amazed again by the abilities of Tommy and Sean. One scene that stands out for me occurs at the beginning of the book. Sean and Tommy are rock climbing looking for a clue to help with their current search for an artifact. A young girl is at the top of the rock wall with her friends. Suddenly she is hanging over the edge by her fingers. Sean immediately climbs toward her with no regard for his own safety. This scene is significant because Sean is deathly afraid of heights. This shows exactly who Sean is.
The latest Sean Wyatt thriller takes Sean and Tommy on a discovery adventure with dire consequences. Once again Ernest Dempsey has created a story that is very hard to put down. The action and intrigue will keep you on edge all the way until the end. The mix of history and fiction is excellent in these stories and The Omega Project is no different, however this story contains some very fascinating speculative fiction. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
An OUTSTANDING, AMAZING thriller!! Sean and Tommy find the most interesting challenges! These are the best adventures. I look forward to the next ones!!
I keep telling everyone, the one I just finished was the best! This one as my favorite - therefore making it the best! Please keep writing - need about 20 more! Or 30, 40👍
A mysterious package is delivered to Sean Wyatt at the IAA (International Archeological Agency). It contains an ancient Japanese puzzle box and a letter from Founding Father/President James Madison describing clues to a treasure hidden by Meriwether Lewis during the Lewis and Clark expedition across the Louisiana Purchase. When he opens the puzzle box, Sean discovers a thumb drive with a horrifying video message: former President John Dawkins is being held hostage and Sean has one week to find the treasure or Dawkins will be killed! Just minutes after watching the video, Sean receives a call from Emily Starks, his former boss at Axis and current lover of President Dawkins. Emily informs Sean of Dawkins’ disappearance, then drops a bombshell — Sean has been named as the kidnapper and every law enforcement agency in the country is after him.
So Sean goes on the run. Somehow he must find the treasure while avoiding being captured or killed. The chase is on and the author has really amped up the action, jumping from Sean to the villains to his friends doing what they can to help from the sidelines. It’s all so neatly engineered to combine a twisty plot with great characters and snarky dialogue into one terrific read. If you love adventure, you’ll love this book. Enjoy!
It just gets better and better. Having come to have rather high expectations from Mr Dempsey I must say he delivers and more. Another breathtaking yarn from the Sean Wyatt stable. Go aheag and read this you will not be dissappointed Three Cheers
There are several things I love about Dempsy's novels, no crude language and no descriptive sex. I love the history and the notes at the end, telling what was historically correct and what came from his great imagination. Having Seen cast as a fugitive in this story made it that much more suspenseful. I cannot help but imagine how many corrupt, dangerous and nefarious deeds are being carried out in the different areas of the U.S. government today. As I have heard "Power corrupts and total power corrupts totally." I am looking forward to the next installment!
On a personal note, a recent illness forced me to spend the last few months down in bed. Mr. Dempsey has entertained me with this collection of archeological thrillers (I think this is the 17th) and it has been great fun. As with all the Sean Wyatt series, you get some of Dempsey's research and conjecture that make you a little smarter while you are enjoying a good yarn. You won't be disappointed! And thanks to Ernest for making my time more tolerable!
My enjoyment of these excellent books is my only excuse for this being my first written review. I especially enjoyed this one, because the mysterious death of Merriweather Lewis is one of my favorite historical cold cases. My family is related to Colonel Lewis through my Mother's bloodline. Another appeal to this particular volume, is that I have visited every Lewis and Clark, or Corp of Discovery site mentioned. I haven't yet visited Glacier National Park, but it's high on my list for 2020 . I highly recommend All of Mr Dempsey's books.
Love this author. It may be fiction, but there is always enough reality to make you think and wonder what if! All the characters are fabulously written.. Adrianna is a favorite. She is so well written as to her feelings, ability, and moral compass. She is one tough lady! And very creative! Keep these characters alive and well to continue their quests for adventure. I can’t do without them.
When I say this is a typical Sean Wyatt book I am not knocking it. Typical here means good characters nicely developed, a good plot, plenty of action, and some historical bits added in. This is a good series, one I put to the top of my list. I recommend it highly.
Ernest Dempsey’s books always combine a bit of history with mystery, intrigue, suspense and thrills. This one is no different. The story line is well thought out, fast paced and provides a cast of well developed characters. Enjoyable read!
Or is it more fake news? Someone did actually kidnap him. This one ties into the Lewis and Clark expedition and has Sean and Tommy racing the clock to save Dawkins and prevent a catastrophic event from happening. Really fast paced ride.
A truly great story that blends history and fiction into a great story that is fast paced beginning to end. Loved every page. Can’t wait for the next journey!!
Another Sean Wyatt book that doesn't fail to please.A good storyline except for the end, which I could not understand how it could be used as an" offensive "weapon.Apart from that, Avery enjoyable read.
I like a good thriller and this book hit the mark. I also liked the action and intrigue throughout the book. The science or science fiction angle was good and will make me check out some of the other Sean Wyatt adventures. Thanks for the GoodRead.
A story about friendships being tested alongside a fast paced quest for an ancient weapon hidden long ago. I liked the sense of place as the duo travel into the ice box of the USA
Former President Dawkins is kidnapped. Sean is the primary suspect and an all points bulletin issued. Sean travels the Lewis and Clark route in search of the random demanded for the Presidents release.
Amazing page Turner.!man when I grow up I want to be just like Sean Wyatt! What a great author, every book I read is just as good as the last. You won't be disappointed.....do it!
Loved this story! Sean and Tommy have one week to solve a 200 year old mystery and find a doomsday weapon. Loaded with heart-thumping action, great dialogue, and wonderful characters.
President Dawkins is a long-time, close friend of Sean Wyatt's, so naturally when Dawkins' distraught girlfriend Emily Starke contacts Sean begging for help to save his friend's life, what else would he say but yes?
Full of twists, turns and surprises, Ernest Dempsey's The Omega Project mixes accurately-researched historical mystery and non-stop thrilling action.
Realistic, inspirational characters - Sean, Adriana and Tommy, plus a well-paced plot and a believably villainous antagonist, blend seamlessly into a complex exciting adventure, with a nod to The Fugitive and Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt and his NUMA team's archeological adventures.
The Omega Project is #17 in Ernest Dempsey's Sean Wyatt series, continuing his stratospheric arc into the upper echelons of authorship and is definitely yet another 5-star winner of a story you'd be mad to miss.
Grab a copy today and get ready to face your fears with Sean and friends, before reaching a satisfying conclusion you're guaranteed to love!
Sean Wyatt is a great hero character and the books featuring him are always fantastic and exciting adventures. This book is no exception, and indeed for me is probably the best so far. A great twist in this story is that Sean becomes a fugitive for kidnapping a former president, and he and Tommy are forced to go on the run and solve an ancient mystery at the same time. The very clever plot really keeps the story racing along at a breakneck pace, and I found that I was never quite sure how Sean and Tommy were going to get out of each predicament. The climax of the chase was particularly well written and exciting. I loved this book. I did receive an advance copy of this book, but I have no other affiliation with the author, and this review has been voluntarily written and reflects my personal opinion.
The Omega Project: A Sean Wyatt Archaeological Thriller (Sean Wyatt Adventure Book 17) by Ernest Dempsey reminds me of the TV series about the Book of secrets hidden in the National Library only available to be read by the sitting President. Because of the extensive research done by the author including visits to the places where action takes place, this and other of his stories make it effortless for the reader to believe it is all true. That’s why his books are such thrillers!
This was indeed a wild ride! Loved every plot twist and turn. When Sean and Tommy go onto a sort of scavenger hunt - you never know who they will meet along the way. At first, the accusations did not make any sense if you know Sean at all but THAT becomes a part of the plot. Plan to sit down with a large cup of tea and be prepared one again, be "transported" on the run with Sean and Tommy!! Thank you Mr. Dempsey 🙏
Whew! Hard to come up for air while reading this book - action galore with everybody on Tommy and Sean's team (and many more) getting involved in the "situation" that the team finds itself in. Us usual when reading a book from Ernest Dempsey, you can expect some real historical facts and some fiction - same goes for some of the facts and things - but, then again, if you have read any of Ernest's books, then you already know that.
Just no other words to describe this adventure. At first, when Sean gets the blame I was concerned that this had been done before and I worried. I almost skipped this book entirely because I thought it too much like another story. Boy am I glad I didn’t! It would have been an incredible shame to miss out on this epic journey filled with history and a touch of myth throw in for good measure. Good luck putting this one down before you finish!
