Nothing is more important to me than you

Excuse me? Is that a freaking confession?

Moving on omg I am in love. Love. Love with this manga. Taichi, Touma, Futuba and Itachi all are my precious babies. They are so good.

That scene with Itachi and Futuba was so relatable about having multiple important people in life.

The scene where touma and taichi were holding hands and he stared crying. So emotional 😭

And we have a freaking new ship sailing. I knew this was gonna happen but I also know that this is temporary because I freaking read the spoilers.

That cute Halloween extra and those extra sketches were so beautiful.

And you know that scene where Sheiya confronted taichi about there future and taichi said they don't talk about that. It's true when we are in school and we know we have to choose college and move on we don't think about it at that time because we just want to enjoy the time being.

So yeah looking soo freaking forward to next volume.

AKSHDHDJA. This is my favorite volume so far. Taichi is soooo precious and he must be protected at all costs. Also, that scene where they are watching the baseball game, I was SCREECHING. They’re so cute 🥹 I feel like I need to binge the rest of this series immediately.

Blue Flag is such a beautiful manga, and this was easily the most heart-wrenching volume yet. There was so much great character development from each of the protagonists!

I love witnessing the progression of Kaito’s art. Their illustrations have always been incredibly refined (which is one of the reasons I adore this manga), but recently the precise attention to detail has become even more incredible. Certain panels centred around character expressions took my breath away with how beautifully drawn they were.

It broke my heart to see Taichi riddled with guilt over Touma’s injuries. Their friendship always makes me smile, and I’m glad to have gotten some more incite into their past. The complicated love quadrangle became even more dynamic due to Futaba’s changing feelings, so as always, I’m really excited to read the next volume!

"THERE'S NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT TO ME...THAN YOU!" I damn near passed away!

"Just for the bottom of the ninth. Could you, um...hold my hand?"

I feel so bad for every single character. They are so full of love and so unsure of a safe place to put it. And every direction seems wrong. UGH! They're so precious and I want them all to be happy SO BAD~

[ Re-read in 2022, Mexican edition. ]

"How can I become someone who deserves these people?"

I’m sure we’ve all wondered about this at least one time in our lives and it sure as hell hit me close home. As we grow up, and if we’re lucky, we’ll find people that will give meaning to our lives. And they call on our mistakes, our problems or the things that we’re not proud of –these people will love us unconditionally, even when we push them away, because they just know that’s when we need them the most.

To me, friends are the family I choose to have, so whenever something bad happens, these are the people that can make me feel better, that remind me that I’m not alone and that their love is the only thing I need so I can get up again.

So, I’m not joking when I say this volume hit me hard in different ways. Taichi feels guilty because Touma got injured and now he cannot play in the finals with his team, but it’s not only that. He’s been bottling his feelings up for a long time, and so, he takes all his shit on Futaba. But this precious girl holds his hand and she never lets him go. Even when he calls horrible things on her, she refuses to give in...

Now, the gesture of holding hands is far beyond romantic PDA. Holding someone’s hand when they’re in the middle of a crisis, or when they can’t stop shaking from fear or with uneasiness, is like saying "I’m with you. I won’t leave you. You won’t go through this alone, because I’m here.”, and man, that’s beautiful in so many ways.

I really like we get to know everybody’s conflict and emotions. I mean, I know they’re a bunch of kids but it’s important to talk about what we feel and think with people who are close to us.

One of my favorite quotes from this volume was this:

"Thank you for not leaving me back then. You saved me."

And that’s because I owe my life to my friends and family, because if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here, saying these words.

Volume 3 of this series about a swirl of teen feelings around issues of friendship and attraction. Two are straight, two are gay. I think the point, overall, is to underscore that especially early on, much is exploration and fluidity, shifting much of the time, until people settle in for a long in a longer and perhaps permanent relationship. But that's not where we are; we are in a period of youth, where difficulties in communication and just identifying and the naming the feelings and attractions can be acute. I mean, for some it may be less complicated, but attraction is always complicated, right?

Volume 2 had a happy cover, with three smiling kids; this one shows two people, Taichi and Futaba, holding hands, but they seemed sorta stunned, which points to the greater intensity of this volume.

Warning about possible spoilers? In this one we return from the cliffhanger where it was apparent Toma was hit by a car that swerved when Taichi attempts to save a cat. But hurrah! Toma "only" has a broken leg. When Taichi, wretched with guilt, tries to apologize, Toma blurts out, "There's nothing more important to me than you!!!" Gulp. Futaba, who also was crushing on Toma, sees the mutual attraction that Toma and Taichi have for each other, and relinquishes, supports the direction that particular couple seems to be heading toward. And there's more layers of complications here, too, even including Taichi's older brother.

Wow, the way the author suddenly shows you how much deeper and more ambivalent Futaba and Taichi's inner thoughts are is really well done. I am looking forward to seeing this for Toma, too.

Well that was a relief once you open the book.

No one dies! Yay!

Anyway we get into the mind of these characters even more now. They're finally starting to admit their true feelings to one another, which is a breath of fresh air instead of waiting 20 volumes in a manga. Taichi immense guilt from his actions of the last volume. Futuba also tries to figure out her feelings and with the help of Masumi she might just get that.

It feels nice the characters moving forward with their feelings and truths. It's also nice to see that a lot of characters view them as friends and not just sex objects. I really love the emotional bits, but the comedy is still pretty solid too. The art is gorgeous at points as well.

This is probably one of my favorite slice of life romance stories.

Well, I started another book because the last one ended on a massive cliff hanger, but I think I'm setting the series down after this one. I still think it's very well written, but the main character has such low self-esteem that he shouts at other characters that he sucks, he's a jerk, he doesn't deserve their friendship and they should leave him alone. I bet the arc of this series will be building this character up to where he believes he deserves their love and friendship, but I just don't feel like dwelling in this character's self-pity at the moment. I would have eaten this shit up as a teen though! Especially with the queer characters.

Back on track as we dive into relationship turmoil following the cliffhanger accident from last volume. And now Toma's big brother shows up and sets up another cliffhanger ending. Wish I had the next book already.

Following the car accident, Taichi is riddled with guilt, almost to the point where he becomes unpalatable as a character. But the truth is, this is a recreation of trauma for him, and his reaction is perfectly plausible in terms of both that and his age. By saving the kitten he resolved his earlier trauma, but it came at the cost of Toma's shot at Koshien, which stands to derail all of Toma's plans for the future. More than that, it forces Taichi to understand just how important he is for Toma, and given that he's not sure why an awesome guy like that would want to be friends with a loser like him anyway. Even without factoring in the multiple romantic subplots, that's something that he's not quite ready to cope with, and when you factor in the whole Futaba thing, it's amazing that he's functional at all.

Growing up is hard. Few books show that as well as this one.

Toma's in the hospital with a broken leg, and Taichi feels super guilty for hurting Toma's baseball career to save a kitten. Futaba tries to comfort Taichi, and the two begin to realize their feelings for each other. This volume had some lovely quiet moments, in contrast to the anger and guilt being felt by the various characters. This seems to focus more on Taichi and Futaba, while Toma's feelings for Taichi aren't explored as much.

Slow consistent progression in the triangle of Taichi, Toma and Futaba. Classmate Masumi isn't as naive and is picking up what is truly happening. Some other high school characters (pushy girls seeking Toma; nerd friends of Taichi) play some small roles.

Toma gets injured and can't play in the final baseball game. Taichi blames himself for the injury as he rescued a kitten, but then needed rescuing from Toma. Futaba sought Taichi's help in previous books to woo Toma, but her friend Masumi helps her to realize that she (Futaba) has fallen for Taichi. Taichi still is trying to help Futaba get Toma, as the two boys completely miss their intense BL connection occurring.

We have Masumi and a big brother that have some wisdom and help keep these other shy teens semi-informed/pushed toward seeing who they REALLY are and opening up.

Slow story that I hope has a conclusion in Volume 8!

4*
