Il est tard. C'est l'heure de dormir. Pour aider le jeune enfant à trouver le sommeil et à faire de beaux rêves, Chuuut ! lui propose d'observer la nature et les animaux qui se préparent tour à tour pour la nuit.
If I' m reading a book to a child especially at bedtime I don't want to be sidetracked and imaginations excited and engaged. Shhh! is a popular title but this is the first one I've read - you need look no further. Beautifully illustrated and incorporating items and toys in the child's own bedroom and vocabulary. Calming and charming. Mellow and melodic. The words vocalise the sound and thought of sleep. All his toys are going through the same routine, even counting sheep. Quiet and quieter still. Even the cat on a nearby roof has succumbed to the timbre of tiredness. Loved it, want it, how many more sleeps to christmas
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product.
The synopsis for Shhh! is longer than the actual book. It's also a little misleading, because it didn't soothe me or my children. They were still bananas after reading this story, although they did enjoy it. My daughter liked pointing out the animals and making their sounds, while my son thought it was funny to see a lion brushing its teeth.
However, the story felt choppy and didn't flow from page to page. There were very few words, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I felt disconnected from the overall story. It was just me turning pages and saying words, instead of feeling like we were a part of the story.

Shhh! is a simple story about going to sleep. A little boy lies in his bed, snuggling his favorite animals, while the world around him prepares to tuck in for the night, just as he should.
Definitely a book that is geared to much younger children, perhaps the board book set (newborn to maybe five or so), and a great, quick bedtime story. The illustrations appear to be watercolor and pencil, vibrant and adorable, and perfectly suited to this cute little book.
Note: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I pride myself on writing fair and honest reviews.
This is a very sweet, nicely illustrated bedtime story. It is time for bed and from the moon to the stuffed animals in the room, everyone is slowing down and getting ready for bed. The text is lyrical and slow paced. I enjoyed the illustrations with the large brightly coloured animals. I would have rated this one higher, but the ending was a bit abrupt for me, but I understand why the author chose to write it that way. My granddaughter liked this one. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
Perfect little bedtime story for wee ones! All the critters little ones like are getting ready to go to sleep, or already asleep. The story is short and uncomplicated and peaceful! I love the illustrations! Bold and simple. I look forward to seeing the actual book as I am sure the colors will be magnificent! Wonderful book.
I received a Kindle ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.
Most of the animals are pictured as cartoon versions of animals, but then the lion is wearing pajamas and brushing his teeth. And the moon image made all of us reading it in the library cringe. Little creep factor happening.
This delightful bedtime story will lull even the most reluctant sleeper to sleep.
"Night falls...It is late. Close your eyes. Time to sleep."
A small child listens intently as the world shuts down around him. He envisons the moon tiptoeing up to the sky, a polar bear curled up on an ice floe readying itself for sleep, a lion in pyjamas brushing all of his teeth, and a herd of giraffes snugging down on soft, pillowy clouds to get some rest, just to name a few.
The child's whimsical imagination combined with the simple lyrical text are a perfect combo... one that is guaranteed to lull your child to sleep. The illustrations are vibrant, humorous, and very kid-friendly. The book soothes, calms and invites your child on a journey culminating in Shhhhhh! Sleep!
I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What a lovely picture book! What makes this kids book so much fun is how imaginative the illustrations are. They are whimsical and will definitely make the little ones wonder and help them have some creative sweet dreams.
This book is charming and it really puts the reader (and the little ones) in a relaxing mood ready for bed.
My only complaint is that the font could be better or maybe placed in a way to go better with the images.
Personal notes: Since the first book read and reviewed this year is a kids picture book about sleep, it must be a sign that I should sleep more this year (and maybe go to bed earlier).
On the inside of the cover jacket, the book claims to calm the liveliest little one or something to that effect. I was foolishly hopeful. My toddler never wants to sleep. Like ever. It takes an hour or two every night to get him to sleep. The story is calming and the pictures are muted to help dull the imagination. Sadly, my toddler thought this book was fantastic. He told me about every little thing on every page. The animals, the colors, the clouds, the sleeping boy. I give this book 5 stars even though it didn’t make him sleepy one bit. It was very engaging for him so I’ll take that as a win.
Shhh! by Barroux Book starts with colorful children's pages showing the darkness. Simple sentences and some pages with no words leaving it to the child to imagine what's going on from the pictures. Shows various animals and how they are going to sleep for the night. Best part is about the sheep! Cute young children's story. Received this review copy from Quarto Publishing Group - words & pictures from Netalley and this is my honest opinion. #Shhh #NetGalley

I had this galley in late 2018, then my backlog welled up and the copy expired.
But now seeing a few pages of it in a book preview made me want to leave a review.
Very visually engaging. Feels like going back to simpler times when I’m reading it. Short and concise lines means an early reader won’t be discouraged to learn.
I love the comforting atmosphere of this book. Will put in a request at my local library.
A pleasant sleep-inspirer, but no more. If you're sending someone off to the Land of Nod why break out into a sudden JOKE midway through (here it's about the sheep that everyone else counts)? I liked the giraffes resting their tired heads on clouds, but the artwork is more utilitarian than magical; this is just mediocre all told.
An odd little bedtime story. A young child is going to bed as the narrator explains that animals all over the world are going to sleep. There are places where children are going to be confused. Children don't understand the concept of counting sheep; so the sheep-counting toucan will go right over their heads. As will the sheep waiting for the counting to end.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Quarto Publishing Group - words & pictures words & pictures for my unbiased opinion of the book. This is a cute short bedtime story with great graphics and meaning. Shhh!
A true bedtime story meant to be read to little ones before they fall asleep. Features animals going through bedtime routines and falling asleep (based on the stuffed animals in the child’s room). 28 pages
So lovely, night falls. Giraffes nap (in clouds)! This would be a great pairing with something like Shhhhh...Everybody’s Sleeping (Markes) for PJ storytime. Thanks to Netgalley for the e-ARC.
