USA Today Bestselling author, Cindy M. Hogan is the author of edge of your seat, young adult suspense novels that always have a dash of romance, because every book should have hot guys and girls in them. Her first series, the Watched Series, skyrocketed her to number one bestselling author and she hasn’t let up since with over 20 novels to her name.
She never sits down to write, instead, she walks and talks into a recorder and lets her computer transcribe her words. Editing is her enemy, but she loves the final results, so she’ll always dig in.
Her one dream is to own and bake in a German style bakery with a cute to-go window for Gelato. In the meantime, she’ll continue to do the thousand other things she loves like teaching, all things outdoors, painting, and gardening—she’s never met a flower, tree, bush or vegetable she doesn’t like—except maybe okra and beets. As long as she’s got a book playing in her ear, she even enjoys weeding. She may be deranged.
She loves to create, but can’t seem to sit still for long, even to read a book. Instead, she listens to books so she can read and create at the same time. She’s a non-stop worker and enjoys every minute of it.
Her most loved creation is her two amazing daughters and wishes they were teens again. She loves to be home, but her husband is a traveler and drags her family around the world, where she finds an endless supply of story ideas, characters, settings, and more often than not, walks away with a suntan or ends up in a cool castle. She is also inspired by the unpredictable teens she teaches. If she is not creating things other than books, you’ll find her snuggled up with the love of her life watching a movie or planning their next party.
I was thrilled for another book from Cindy Hogan. I love this series of books from this talented author. Christy is a marvel and she was without something that is usually vital in her missions. This time Christy has to learn how to be a spy all over again. I appreciated and loved her journey. Yes, she made mistakes but I loved what Christy learned about herself, her team, and her enemies. This book is a non stop ride of action and page turning thrills. There is some violence, nothing I felt was offense, but it was a need for this type of book. SCEPTER is extremely well written and I couldn’t turn pages fast enough. Excellent balance of action with some romance mixed in too. There were many twists I wasn’t expecting.
I’ve been reading the Watched series by Cindy Hogan forever! I found the first one at the library and was able to meet the author in my local Costco pretty soon after finding it. Everything about this series is amazing. It’s written for young adults and they will love it as much as I do. I really think these ones need to be read in order, or things don’t make as much sense.
This one starts out with a bang, quite literally. I love Christy and I was concerned for her in the beginning of the book. Christy has always had a memory almost like a computer. And due to an accident, she lost that in this one. But…she’s still Christy and she’s always able to rise above things. I love that about her!
Christy is our main character, and the only one the reader can “see” the story through. She does such a great job noticing things, that the reader gets a really complete picture through her eyes.
There are other amazing characters in this one. I love Jeremy, and the sweet relationship he shares with Christy. I’ve got to hope that one works out somewhere for the two of them. There are also Ace and Hal. I love these two! They are both clever and there are always fun one liners from them that make me laugh. I love the way these four work as a team and watch out for each other like a family.
The plot of this one is full of danger, action, and adventure. I love the way there are so many things to figure out as the story moves along. This one is one of my favorites! And I can’t wait for more!
I have always enjoyed the books in this series, and this one is no exception. Christy, Jeremy, Hal, and Ace take on a job for Division, things don't work out as planned, and Christy gets injured on the job. She looses the one thing that makes her unique-her photographic memory! It seems everything is a struggle from this point on, and before long the 4 friends and agents have to go dark. There is an organization afoot that plans on shutting down oil drilling of all non-OPEC countries simultaneously attacking the stock market and causing unbelievable losses. The organization behind this is Scepter and they won't be content until all of Division is eliminated, the US economy is crushed and there is no available oil. Meanwhile this team never gives up regardless of what obstacle is placed in their paths. Christy faces the most injuries and the biggest loss, but her teammates never stop believing in her abilities as a spy. Time and time again the situation looks impossible, yet they manage to escape or avoid capture.
This exciting book is perhaps my favorite in the series because the four people can only rely on each other and their gut feelings. The author has managed to keep the tension throughout the entire book as they battle against all odds. It is a showcase for each of the team member's abilities and strengths. It is a pleasant surprise to discover that Christy is more than just her total recall abilities. Aside from her repeated use of good training, her compassion shows through many times as well.
If you are new to the series you are a very lucky reader! You have eight books before this one to read! If you have read those eight books, you will appreciate everything that has gone into this ninth book with some reference made to the previous volumes. In either case, you have a definite treat coming as you sit down to read Scepter!
This one wasn't really my favorite of this series. I REALLY love them, but Christy was too whiny and annoying in this one. It kind of bothered me. And the story seemed a little bit rushed to me, and nothing was really resolved. I guess there will be another book? And I don't love how Hogan introduced Alex back into the story. But it was still an enjoyable read!
I have been a fan of Ms. Hogan's work since Watched. This one fell a bit short for me. The body count was very high in this one. I got a bit bored with all the peril. I wish there were more quiet moments and figuring things out. I also wish Christy's "problem" would be solved cuz it got annoying.
Another thrilling addition to the Watched Series. I couldn’t put this book down. Watching Christy struggle through the mental handicap of losing her photographic memory was challenging because I could empathize with her struggles to figure out who she is without this superpower. Of course, the romance throughout was great, and the proposal at the end unexpected and heartfelt. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.
