The gruesome discovery of a skeleton and a body in an underwater cave become Detective Bridgette Cash's greatest mystery when forensics reveal they have more in common than just fatal gunshot wounds to the head. As Bridgette seeks answers, she is drawn deep into an underworld from which she has little hope of escape. Alone and exposed, can she survive long enough to expose the truth and bring justice to the victims?

Bridgette can take care of herself - but her partners keep dying. A good story, but I don't think this is the end of the mystery surrounding her parents. In the next book, Bridgette gets a new partner - ex-undercover - will this be the beginning of a slow burn romance, a partnership bond, or another one that bites the dust?
By golly, this is a good book! In fact, it's an excellent series; I admit I skipped the first one ("Cold Comfort"), but I thoroughly enjoyed the second ("Cold Trail") and this, the third featuring Hartbourne Metro Detective Bridgette Cash, is better still.
As this one begins, Bridgette is back at work after events of the previous book brought trauma - including the loss of her partner. She's escorted to an underwater cave, where a diver found two dead bodies: one many years old and the other relatively fresh. Both, it's determined, died as a result of gunshots to the head. Other than that, clues as to their identity remain submerged, but Bridgette begins an investigation that hopefully will land results.
Her beloved supervisor, Felix Delray. has her back; but he's at the mercy of a commissioner who, let's just say, isn't Bridgette's biggest fan (nor she his). In part because Bridgette may be in danger as a result of her continued attempts to find the person who murdered her mother a couple of decades ago, the commissioner orders up a new partner named Aaron Sterling. He's obnoxious, arrogant and disdainful of women (Bridgette in particular), but she's determined to make the best of the situation.
Initially focusing on the more recent victim, Bridgette finally narrows the list to a missing person at a local horse breeder's operation. Her boss claims to know nothing about the place (why the police wouldn't be fully aware of it since it sponsors an annual race that brings in an attendance of 70,000 is a puzzlement to me, but hey). At any rate, he gives Bridgette the go-ahead to visit, checking out the stable that belonged to the man who suddenly disappeared and learning that he isn't the first.
That discovery leads to other links in the investigative chain, a bang-up ending and, of course, fodder for another book. For those who enjoy police procedurals with interesting characters and plenty of action, I recommend that you give this series a try. Meantime, I thank the author for offering me a copy to read and review. Well done!
"Bridgette studied the photo board of the two bodies in the cave as she waited in Ray Warner's office. As she looked at each image, she was drawn back to that afternoon less than a week ago when she was ferried out to the island by boat. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she recalled the dank, claustrophobic conditions of the watery tomb."......
Detective Cash is back in Book 3 of this “Bridgette Cash Mystery Thriller.” This time Bridgette is investigating two bodies found in an underwater cave.
There’s still some disharmony in the office for Bridgette. The story about her personal life follows her into this book, and picks up where Book 2 left off. Once again she doesn’t let the “powers that be” rattle her. I like this about her character.
Assigned a new partner after the death of her last one, can she work with this one? He’s already been someone she’d rather not deal with. Now she’s temporarily stuck with him, and successfully avoiding him, while she looks into this new case.
When Bridgette discovers the ties between the victims, she’s sure she can solve this. On the other hand, if only she could solve who is behind the shooting the night she was attacked. Does it have to do with her mother’s death years before? This is the common thread through out this series. Will it finally be solved? Bridgette desperately needs answers for her own peace of mind. What if the past and the present were somehow related? A unique storyline that has made for an intriguing book. Which ever case it is, past or present, Bridgette, once again needs to be looking over her shoulder.
I enjoyed the first 2 books in this series, and was just as captivated by this addition. Bridgette continues to grow as a strong female detective. Definitely one of my favorite series!
This is the 3rd in the series about Bridget Cash, who is a detective. If you read the first two of the series, you have learned that her mother was murdered, while her father escaped and was accused of murdering her. Bridget was safe, as her mother hide her in a closet. So for the twenty years, she hasn't known if her father is alive or dead or if he did kill her mother.
When she joins the police force (of which her father was formerly a detective) she starts to figure a lot of things out about corruption in the police department. Could one of their own have killed her mother and framed her father.
She has to fight to stay on in the police department, her Chief Delray supports Bridgett and fights to keep her working..In this one, Bridget is called to investigate a case where a two bodies are found in a cave. But their murders are twenty years apart. While being on this case, Bridget is also finding out some information that might lead to finding the real truth about her mother's death.
This one does solve the case of her parents and in doing so Bridget also puts her life in danger in taking on the murder case of the two victims in the cave..Loved this one and hope there might be a next one in this series!
I'll write one review for all of Trevor Douglas's series of Bridgette Cash thrillers. Well, actually I wrote a review for book one. I still have the same issues. While I really like the author's plots and some of his characters, he needs to pay attention to his writing style. A good editing would help enormously. He tends to write long paragraphs and will use the same words over and over. For instance, he gets hooked on saying things such as "the man" or "the killer" which are fine once. But he tends to overuse them and it interferes with the story. He's good at fast-paced action narratives, but using the same words again and again in a short space interferes with the excitement. The drama.
Douglas also gets his facts mixed up. He has a 1967 Mustang fastback suddenly becoming a 1966, and then reverts back. He calls a man by two different first names in the same paragraph. And he calls some son a character's brother, which might be with different surnames, but later that same man becomes the cousin.
These could really be great reads with a little more care. I stuck it out throughout this series because of the plots. At this stage in my reading career I don't think I'll try another of Douglas's series.
Overall I like the mysteries but at this point I feel I can summarize what happens - Bridgette works too much on her own, finds more stuff about her parents, she develops too close relationships with people she interviews, has AC Cunningham on her case and needs the protection of Delray and spends time in the hospital with injuries. And loses another partner - who has 2 partners die on them within 6 months. So the son was killed because he was trying to figure out what happened to his dad - and he was getting close? Why were the dad and son left in the cave - if they said what it meant I missed it. New partner next book I will see how it goes. The books are fairly clever mysteries but Bridgette needs to change I like that she is smart and physically strong but...
I enjoyed reading Cold Hard Cash although I had not read the previous books in the series or anything by Trevor Douglas. It was a pleasant surprise! The main characters and the situations could happen in anyone´s life - there are no super heroes and although there is a bad villain we can just open the papers and see so many bad people like him. What grabs you to keep on reading is the way Trevor Douglas builds the story - the plots - how things are not the way the seem to be and how not always things happen in the way they were meant to be! It left me wanting to read more, so I´ll certainly make sure to read other books by this author.
Like the previous two books, I couldn't stop reading. I would like to know why Cunnigham's summary didn't include the first shot (was he in on it?); if Bates didn't shoot Bridgette who did,; why does the slimy lawyer get to walk; what was on the hard drive; was the key to the drive in the physics textbook? There may be another book which will cover Cunningham and the lawyer. Right now there are loose ends for me. Also no one goes to trial. Everyone dies. Despite those questions, I loved the book and hope there will be more.
There is just something about the character of Bridgette Cash that captures me. She is an intriguing character. Having said that I wish the author, Trevor Douglas, would go a little easy on her. She is so close to death on many occasions. Great plot in this instalment. Really like the other characters. If you like murders, tensions, action, intrigue, drama, skullduggery, and a really great female protagonist, then read away!
This series is very good. The characters and plots are very interesting. I strongly recommend reading them in order. This book resolves things from the first two books. I'm now a fan of this writer. I look forward to more in this series. While I am waiting for those, I will definitely read his stand alone books.
I like Bridgette as a character and a detective because she works by protocol within the confines of good police work. She does get into life and death situations but she doesn't panic and uses her intelligence to work through the dilemma.
Trevor Douglas does an excellent job in all the character development. I hope you enjoy reading his stories
This is my second book in the series but I have read 4 when I am writing this review. I can see some patterns and repetitions in this series (including phrases) but they are not bothering me enough to dislike it.
It's a procedural kind of book and I like those. The MC is quite "overpowered"(too many close calls to death in all the books) but it works well for the story and the pace is fast.
What another roller coaster of a story, love the characters, this was a really good story, it kept the same theme so you never lost what we going on, well done Trevor .
Each book is better than the one before!I can't get enor.I feel sad there are only two to go.Trevor Douglas is definitely my favorite author! Great read !I am on to the next one!
Bridgette has a knack of finding trouble…death defying trouble…whenever she takes on another case. But she finally has some answers about her life that can make sleeping a lot easier.
This book kept me glued to it until the end. It was one of those books I had a hard time laying it down. I was constantly trying to make a connection with the characters. Great read!
Cold Hard Cash is a great read, Bridgette's keen observation helps her solve crimes, In spite of those men trying the push her back. This Series is great.
Good pace , unpredictable, and excellent story. Enjoying this series likeable characters and good storyline. Would recommend to anybody looking for action mystery.
