Everything in me said to run...   Evie Franklin doesn't know the meaning of home. On the run since her teens, Evie's whole life is built around a quick exit. After a violent attack leaves her vulnerable, she's forced to rely on the only man that makes her wish she could stay.

Lucien Falco knew Evie was hiding something. The talented, beautiful hacker was a puzzle Luc wanted to solve. Raised in a loving close-knit family, Luc's roots run deep. He's always known what he's been looking for, but no woman has ever come close.

Until now.
If you love a protective Aussie alpha, a kickass heroine, mixed with romantic suspense - then this is the book for you!

Copy received for an honest review

Kim Congram has knocked it out of the park with Rough Code.

It has been a little while since she released On Edge, however I dived right back into the Rough Edges series, and didn't want to leave.

Ms Congram has given us another kick-ass woman who won't take things sitting down. She fights her demons like the bad ass mofo we all wish we could be, and I may or may not have cheered out loud and fist pumped as the story progressed.

However, our leading lady Evie is not all sh!t kicking - my heart hurt for her at times as we learn more of her background.

And then there is Luc - well helloooooooo sir! Can't blame a girl for falling for a man like him!

I was so enthralled that I may have snuck in a few chapters whilst I was at work (don't tell my boss) as I didn't want to put it down, I needed to know what happened next, I needed to be there as Evie fought the good fight.

Gah, I just don't know what to say to do this book justice.

Do yourself a favour (the Aussie reading this are saying this in Molly's voice, I bet) and pick up On Edge and Rough Code - you won't regret it.

WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

I absolutely love Kim Congram, I started reading her after All The King's Horses which is a political thriller and adored the story even though it was not a romance which is usually my main jam. She has just an amazing style of writing. FF to yesterday when I freaked out noticing that I could help promote THIS book and binge read the first book in the series and this. I really liked the first book, but this one, just freaking WOW!

We got a glimpse of Evie and Luc in the first book and obviously there was a story just waiting to be told, when Evie was injured we saw how Luc stepped up and it was definitely not in just the 'I am your boss' kinda way.

What we have in this story is a sweet but semi-broken girl that is hiding a FREAKING crater sized secret and one of the hottest, sexiest, kindest man I have EVER read about. Not only can you feel the friend vibes but you can tell how much Luc cares for Evie and how she feels about him. The suspense in this story kept me waiting to see what was going to happen next. Let me tell you it was absolutely no hardship to binge-read these two books. I am beyond excited to wait for the next installment to see the storyline that Kim is going to to take with it.

5 outta 5-- this book had it freaking all!

PS: I received this book for free but am voluntarily reviewing it!!!

I found this book a bit too millennial for me. (I don’t even know if that’s a thing.) The use of hashtags and the greetings were off putting. I do understand that the use of this was based on the characters personalities but it was a peeve of mine. The plot was good though.

Evie has endured of traumatic life and because of that she bounced from place to place trying to stay hidden. She has to be aware of every exit when she is in a room. She is a genius with a computer. It is how she balances the chaos and destruction of her life so she got a job doing just that. She found a family and friends that would do anything for her. She found a man that makes her want to stop running and lay down roots but sometimes running is the easy and safest option. She would never want to put them in harms way and being around her does exactly that. Terrible people are after her so she has to decide whether she wants to risk it all and stay or do what she does best, run.

It was a bit difficult to connect with Evie and Luc. Maybe it was the way they spoke. It took a minute for his feelings for Evie to come through to me.

Although I have mixed feelings about his book, it will not deter me away from Kim Congram. I am a major fan of her series, The Katura Chronicles.

First book I have read from this writer. Holy cow was this book interesting . Intense gripping mind blowing suspense twists and turns. I absolutely loved Evie and Luc. There chemistry was off the wall hot. Evie was one amazing character so strong through everything she had to deal with. Realizing that she doesn't need to run that there are people who will protect her. The love her past is heart breaking and something I am so glad she got away from. This book was amazing so glad I decided to read it.

Rough Code was crazy. It was my first title from Kim Congram and what a ride. There was a lot going on and I was never quite sure which way was up but for some reason I didn't want to put it down.

I liked Evie. A whole lot. She was brave and so smart and so lonely. She had her reasons for living life the way she was. And when I learned just what she had endured and survived, it made me root for her all the more. No matter how much she wanted to let her guard down and build friendships, a family, she knew she couldn't. Because the moment she let her walls down, everything was going to change- and not for the better. And, sadly, she was right.

I loved the way Luc took his time with Evie, made her comfortable enough to open herself up to him. But Luc and the whole team at Elliott Securities wasn't having Evie trying to push them away for their own sake. She was part of their family and they weren't going down without a fight. And it was Luc leading the charge to keep the woman he loved safe.

Overall, I found Rough Code enjoyable. The writing was straightforward and easy to follow. For as much as I liked Evie and Luc, I wanted to feel a bit more of their connection. This slow-burning suspense kept me invested in the outcome. The final showdown was intense and had my heart racing. And as much as Luc and the team were a part of take down of the tangled web, it was Evie who saved herself (super yay).

I went into this book completely blind. It is only when I pulled up the book to review, that I saw the cover. I expected the cover to be something other than abs. The story was very computer code oriented so I thought it would be more number-y. Haha

This book is fast paced, has lots of moving parts and terrific character development. I would consider it a
slow burn romance. There is a lot of technology threaded in and out of the story and at times I thought about "unplugging " my house and going of the grid, but then I couldn't charge my kindle or read books at night.

I think this book was very well written and while it was technically written, I felt as if it never had to be "dumbed down".

It is great to see such a strong female character involved in STEM.

I recomend this book and this author.

Rough Code by Kim Congram is book Two in the Rough Edges Series. This is the story of Lucien Falco and Evie Franklin. I haven't yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Evie has had to live on the run never stopping. Lucky she is smart and knows computers as it has helped her maintain her life. Lucie too is smart with computers and he knows that something is up with Evie and he wants to help her move forward with her life.
This was a slow burn but never the less a good burn...enjoyed their story.

I've never read this author before, and I was impressed by this second installment in the Rough Edges series.

I found myself liking Evie Franklin from the start. She's a high level computer hacker who's bright and kind though a bit mysterious. She's conscious of her surroundings, knows she's never safe, and makes sure she has an exit strategy no matter her position. She's been abused in her past, and there's something she escaped that she fears is still after her. So, even though she's made friends, she knows she'll have to leave soon if she's going to survive and if she's going to keep her friends safe.

Lucien Falco is deeply invested in the security company and knows he has more than a computer whiz working for him in Evie. He's a product of the war in Afghanistan, and his comradery with his fellow partners in the security firm. But, he's got a soft side, knows what the war left to him, and want to overcome the pain and sorrow he experienced. Evie is a vulnerable woman who he can't seem to get off of his mind. He knows she's got a backstory though there's no trace of that in her records. As he tries to help her, tries to keep her from running again, he begins to fall for the charm and beauty of this enigma that is Evie Franklin.

When her past finally crashes in, Evie has a choice. She could run, thus saving everyone around her and hopefully finding a place in the world where she can feel relatively safe again. Or she could face the demon that is her past, the one that almost destroyed her and seeks to destroy her all the same. And this time, she has friends and a special man to have her back. Will it be enough?

I loved the suspense of the story, and the glimpses of Evie's past helps to fuel that suspense. The story kept me on the edge of my seat, and that's important with romantic suspense. The love story that developed was sweet and romantic, and I enjoyed watching it develop. The interaction of the hero and heroine was sometimes adorable and yet tense, and I love how the author didn't give them an insta-love feel as we watched them gradually come to that conclusion. I think there were some moments that I wasn't prepared for, and that is simply missing background for the heroine. She seemed to be able to take a serious beating without caving, and she apparently had some self-defense background that I was missing. Perhaps it was something that was spelled out in the previous novel, but I think it could have been expounded upon a little in this one since it was hers. But, overall, I enjoyed the story. It kept twisting in directions that made it unpredictable, and there's nothing I love more than a strong heroine. I definitely plan to read more of this author's works in the future.

Going into this story I wasn’t sure how it would resonate. I have about zero geek in me (boo hoo). I am the gal still trying to figure out social media (haha). Ugh that doesn’t matter with this story. Evie’s geek-ship is flying high in this book. She is brilliant and beautiful.

It has a slow build to it with a lovely Australian flavor. Eek. I love it. Definitely on my bucket list of places to visit. Wink.

Luc and Evie are AWESOME. Both are wonderful characters with interesting backstories. As the story progresses they both heat up the page together (fanning myself). Evie is the shining star. Holy heck she is amazing and when you learn where she came from, well, just color me impressed.

Luc and his military background make him the right guy in helping Evie deal with “All Kinds of Cray-Cray”. The security team they all work with makes this an even better story. When they discussed family I might have teared up a bit. Don’t judge me (hee hee). The later part of this book ups the angst. OMG my stomach was in knots and I was on the edge of my seat. SO GOOD.

Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO

Evie Franklin stays under the radar, and really has no place to call home, as she's been on the run since she's been a teenager. And that means that she doesn't let anyone in past her walls, no dates, and she lives a pretty lonely life. When an attack having to do with her job leaves her relying on other people, she spends a lot of time with Lucien Falco, a man that she works with & has kind of crushed on since she met him. Luc knows Evie is hiding stuff, but doesn't know what it is, but he's determined to find out, because he wants Evie for his own. Rough Code was a fantastic story that totally held me in it's grip cover to cover. Evie was that mysterious heroine who is completely bad a** but with a side of tortured soul added to the mix. And the amazing Kim Congram only give bits & pieces of what her past was like as we went along, so I was totally waiting for that other shoe to drop throughout, which leads me to my next point. The twist, OMG THE TWISTS! Yeah, I love me some f-bomb worthy twists, because I love the excuse to drop em like they're hot, and Ms. Congram gave me that, because this story's suspense factor packed a big punch. But I can't forget the hot factor, yep, Evie & Luc set the sheets on fire during sexy times when they FINALLY got down to business. Finally, there's an amazing cast of secondaries who add humor & more depth to this story! So just one-click this baby that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND, because you won't be disappointed!

Rough Code is the second installment of the Rough Edges series by Kim Congram.

Evie Franklin knows the consequences of not knowing to have an exit strategy. After experiencing an attack which left her vulnerable, she goes to the one person who can make her exit, permanent.

Lucien Falco is a mastermind on the computer as his fingers glide effortlessly on the keyboard. He is the ultimate family man and he is willing to help Evie, but something in his gut tells him she hasn’t been truly truthful.

Will he be able to get to the bottom of her avoidance before time runs out for both of them?

Kim Congram is a new author for me, but I found her writing a breeze to read. I enjoyed the character development and the way the story evolved. Through the story, you truly feel the emotional pull as Evie talks about what she is going through. But don’t worry. She’s not a full damsel in distress. She has a clear backbone and knows how to use it! As for Lucien, he’s a handsome hacker genius and he knows it. Overall, I found the story to be well rounded and a really good romantic suspense story.

Rough Code had me completely hooked from the start.

This was my first Kim Congram book and won’t be my last. Book 2 in the Rough Edges Series. This can easily be read as a standalone but I look forward to reading the first book in this series.

Being a fellow Australian I loved all the references to local cities.

I’ve never read anything like it, completely unique. Firstly, strong lead characters. Evie, where do I start! I don’t think I’ve ever loved a character as much as her! She’s completely kick ass with an incredible strength that when you hear her back story makes her all the more impressive plus she’s a computer hacker could she be any more amazing.

Luc is Evie’s boss. Ex-military, Luc has his own history of pain. He is loving, sweet, protective and family orientated.

The second half of this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I couldn’t stop reading until I finished.

I loved this suspense filled romance.

This was my first Kim read. I went in pretty blindly and wow it was packed with a filling storyline.

Evie and Luc work together, Evie has major baggage, and all she knows to do is run. Luc and Evie have the unspoken feelings for each other, but Luc wants to take the risk to be with her regardless of the no dating coworkers type of clause.

Evie and Luc has some great chemistry. Luc is so well put together, a little reserved but professional, but when it comes to his feelings for Evie, he becomes the alpha, the one to rescue her in any time of need. This story goes more in depth into her life before working with Luc's company. I really enjoyed this story, suspenseful and also romantic. This will not be my last read from this author.

Evie has learnt from a young age that the only one she can depend on is herself. She has created a good life for herself working at Elliot Security and her co-workers, especially her boss Lucien, have become her family but she always knew it would be temporary.

Luc knows that there is much more to Evie than she shows, and he is determined to show her that she can trust him. After a violent attack all he wants to do is protect her and all she wants to do is flee, who will win this battle of the wills?

I really enjoyed these two together. Due to her past Evie doesn’t allow anyone too close and Luc is so patient as he breaks down the walls she has built around her. Full of suspense, twists and romance this story takes you on a wild ride.

This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author..This heroine is broken, I felt every time she tensed in fear. They had been friendly boss/ employee. Until The unthinkable happened and then Luc found out he was her next of kin. He starts to question how much does he really know about her. My only annoyance was the countless sayings that I didn’t get. The references to memes were confusing. I feel like the first two takedowns she tells rather than shows. I hate to only hear about them after the fact. I stayed up all night reading it. I couldn’t put it down. Everything got neglected. Well I finished this morning and I was all caught up in it. I recommend this book. Check it out you guys. It’s different. A female hacker! I’ve always wanted to read about one and so will you.

I really loved this book and I read it as a standalone. This was also my first book by this author and I was not disappointed. You can tell from the start that Luc is crazy about Evie but you can also tell she is extremely guarded but not why or how badly. When Evie is hurt is when you really see to what lengths Luc will go to, to protect her and make sure she is well cared for. When Evie tries to run after finding out some scary info Luc is bound and determined to protect her at all cost but she isn't so sure. I will say that there was so much going on that it keeps you on edge I stayed up late reading and was not disappointed.

This was an enjoyable psychological thriller. On the surface Evie seems to have it all; a good job, friends and a longing for her boss, Luc. One event sets off old ingrained reactions of flight, but Evie now had people to fight with her and for her. That same one event, pushed Luc to declare his feelings but that bond would be tested when Evie's past affected her present.

Prepare yourself to feel many emotions because this story has so many moments. From swooning, laughter, tears, despair and love.

Evie has had a tough life and is on the run. She is a hacker and takes nothing from anyone. Lucien has a great family and life. He finds Evie attractive and wants to help her. He knows she's hiding a secret. Will the two be able to come to terms and find love? This story was a knock your socks off thrill ride to the last page.

This is the second book in this series, and is Evie and Luc’s story. It is heartbreaking to read about what Evie had to endure and survive, and sexy Luc can see beyond the walls which she is built. No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a good story which is raw, gritty, intense, and with suspense, secrets, which all lead to a sweet and steamy read. I really loved this story! Evie is hiding and has been for quite a while. Luc has seen her and he knows he wants her, he just hasn't been able to have her and no he's set on getting her. We are taken on a journey that starts with just enough suspense to get us hooked, and are quickly pulled into the twisted world of Evie's past. We learn that Evie and Luc are actually really sweet and cute together once we get into the story. Evie and Luc have amazing chemistry that flies off the pages and I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see what comes next!!

I was given this book for free for an honest review.

This book was really well written and suspenseful however the suspense was not because if the storyline but the timeline of the final action. The romance between the characters was a slow burn which I enjoyed, and I would love this to become a series where each book is about a new character in the team at Elliot Security.

Rough Code by Kim Congram is Book 2 in the Rough Edges series.
It’s a romantic suspense with interconnecting characters across the series, it can be read as a standalone but for a more comprehensive experience begin with book 1, On Edge.

I cannot express how much I loved this book with words. It was just amazing.
Evie and Luc were such great characters and Kim’s ability to create her world and develop her characters is really well done.
It had everything I enjoy in a book- suspense with my romance, some angst, a strong heroine and an alpha hero, some humour and oh the banter between these 2 was so spot on.
I look forward to reading more by Kim.

Book 2 in the Rough Edges series see Evie Franklin facing her ghosts head on, in this romantic suspense. Working in tech support as a super hacker for Elliott Securities, under the truly sexy, and adorable Lucien Falco, Evie discovers what it’s truly like to be adored, something she’s never known before. Lucien is determined to find out all her secrets, but when push comes to shove, are they strong enough to battle Evie’s demons, and the force behind them? A great story, with wonderful characters (Luc is like a real life superhero, and Evie is a kick@$$ heroine, a match made in heaven), and the writing was, in my eyes, perfect. A full five star read for me, this series just gets better and better. Rough Code can definitely be read as a stand-alone.
