3 steampunk capers full of quirky characters, humour, and adventure. With over 900 pages of adventure-packed fun, these individual books have 100+ five star reviews on Amazon.
>>> THE BLOODLESS ASSASSIN #1
An assassin who's afraid of blood. A pickpocket with dreadlocks and a big mouth. They can't seriously be the city's only hope?
When Rory discovers Longinus’s blood phobia, she makes him a deal. Train her, and she won’t ruin his reputation as a lethal assassin.
What she doesn’t expect is that her new master has more eccentricities than a stray dog has fleas.
And that in aligning herself with him, she now finds herself in the crosshairs of another, far more dangerous assassin.
Now, not only does Rory have to keep herself and Longinus alive, she has to stop a conspiracy that threatens to bring the city to its knees.
An impossible task?
It's even harder with Longinus under the delusion that he’s the hero of the story. That would be funny, if it didn't make Rory want to throttle him.
>>> THE BLACK ORCHID #2
An old friend drained of his blood. A shortage of black silk. Rory and Longinus face their greatest crisis yet.
Rory investigates the murder of her oldest friend while Longinus attempts to discover why there is a city-wide shortage of black silk.
Clues bring them both to the Black Orchid, a new brothel in town decked in black silk, where the clientele has a tendency to disappear.
But things take an unexpected turn when they find themselves framed for the whole operation.
Can they solve the mystery of the Black Orchid and clear their names?
Who is the real enemy, and can Longinus get to their supply of silk?
>>> THE SLAVE CITY #3
A complicated mission. A team of misfits that just don’t get along. What could possibly go wrong?
The team: A skinny pickpocket with dreadlocks and a big attitude. A foppish assassin with a fear of blood An elite fighter, master of the sardonic raised eyebrow. A smuggler with a drinking problem and a propensity for brawling. And a no-nonsense, heavily tattooed machinist, trying to keep them all in line.
The mission: Free a Damsian inventor kept prisoner in the distant city of Azyr. Spark a rebellion to remove the half-mad tyrant ruling the place, and while they’re at it, end slavery in Azyr. And do it all without getting killed, shackled into slavery, or arguing.
Celine Jeanjean is French, grew up in the UK and now she travels the world as a nomadic writer. That makes her a tad confused about where she is from. During her travels she's watched the sun rise over Angkor Wat, lost her shoes in Vietnam, and fallen off a bamboo raft in China.
Celine writes stories that feature quirky characters and misfits, set in wondrous worlds.
Book I: The world of Damsport was vivid in my minds eye while reading, The young girl wanting to be an assassin was very charming and honorable for a kid, The relationship between the two characters unusual, fun and engaging. I found myself smiling. Longinus was a different sort of character that grew on you. It has political intrigue and grand adventure. I'd definitely recommend this book and can't wait to read the next in the series,
Book II Rory is older now and lands smack in the middle political plots and intrigues. The city description of Damsport is beautifully written. I could picture it. These characters make me smile. Can' wait to read the next one.
Book III This is the third book in the series. It was so much fun and more adventure. The characters are smart and the dialogue clever. Great mystery adventure in another time. Others have talked about the story, so I am telling you I had a lot of fun reading it. The characters made me smile. This is the third book in the series so if you not read the others you should, The Bloodless Assassin and The Black Orchid.
I volunteer to read ARC's of these books because the story premise excited me and this my honest opinion.
Grab the boxset deal and get all 3. There is also a 4th book and a soon to be 5th in the series that I can't wait to read.
This series of three books was exciting and full of drama and action. I have never read anything by this author before but I must say that this set of three books, the first part of the series, was quite something. The stories themselves flowed seamlessly, one to another, and the quality of the writing was wonderful. There was action, tension, and comedy all rolled into one that made a very cohesive whole. I loved the main characters, they were all brilliant for quite different reasons. When you mix together a street urchin/pickpocket, an assassin with an obsession about elegant clothes, a trained fighter, a mechanical expert, and a burly lady sea captain, you've got a really broad spectrum of people, and untold directions you can take them in. This story took them in some great directions, making use of every one of them in some brilliant ways. This is a book that is definitely worth a read!
From The Bloodless Assassin who’s title character’s extreme phobia about blood is at odds with his job as an assassin to the team of spies sent to spark a revolution in Slave City, this is a series I can’t get enough of. The author has a way of making the reader engage with all her characters (refer to the blurb of The Slave City.). And her settings are vibrant, colorful, dark and dangerous. Steampunk devices (especially a spider) combine with a fantasy setting to create this truly unique and entertaining series. Highly recommended!
So much intrigue, so much action, so much danger. So much fun! I have read all three books in this box set. The first I purchased. Books 2 and 3 were supplied by the author in exchange for my honest reviews.
I really enjoyed this set of books and have just bought books 4-6 so I can carry on the story it was unlike any books I have read before, an engaging story , vivid descriptions of the characters and the places without becoming boring or tedious, it had twists and turns . the characters had depth and well, character, in a lot of books the women are like hollywood stars and the men like adonis. as a reader I was routing for them to succeed.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this, even better it was free. Rory, Rafe and Longinus were fated to team up and the adventure in the last episode is the topping although if Rory gets any more stitches she will look like a patchwork quilt. Cruikshank and Adelma are good auxiliary characters playing an important part in the adventure as well.
Not your usual heroes! These books kept me reading through the night more than once. Celine weaves humor and horror seamlessly . The heroes are flawed in ways that will make you laugh while you love them more with every chapter. These are people and events you will not forget!
I have to say, it did take me a little bit to warm up to a couple of the characters. But once I read more and got to know them and their stories… well I am now hooked! The books are excellent and well written, I cannot wait to read the next adventure of the Viper and Rory and co!
I really lied this book. It does seem to be written for a younger audience, I'm 60. The relationship between characters are developed in believable & interesting ways. For the most part anyway. The comedy in the writing is very refreshing & entertaining. With a world of "meat & veggie" books these come with dessert.
First book starts off a little slow as character development and world building takes precedence. But stay with it because halfway through book one the pace takes off like someone's life is at risk. It is! And books 2 and 3 are fast paced from beginning to end. Loved it. Something always happening, and the storylines are fantastic.
I found this to be written well enough to be quite entertaining, even if some of it was a bit overworked and cheesy. If one simply reads it for the pleasure of it to pass away a few hours, this is bound to please. I enjoyed it despite it not being my usual fare of sword and sorcery and recommend it for light fare.
I am 100% sucked into the world that's been created. I love seeing the characters grow and change! The writing is so good I can see the characters clearly in my mind. This isn't the most elegant review, but I think Rory would get it. Read the books to understand.
A great book series needs the right blend of compelling characters, creative world-building, excellent plot lines, and backstories that draw you in. This series has it all.
Well written, with characters that are very eccentric. A steampunk-ish world, not too different from our own, with countries having their own customs and beliefs. Follow our street urchin from digging for scrap food to making a difference in the world.
I love the series and the way the characters developed along the way. The complexities of their personalities along with the rich story made it hard for me to stop reading and get other things done.
This series is a true gem! I got the first three books for free and am happily digging through the last ones now. Not only is the story brilliantly written, funny and has an amazing plot and characters that go deeper with every book, but every story is closed in itself, without any huge cliffhangers, which I really appreciate. Jeanjeans style is truly unique and I am so happy I found a new favourite writer that so far hasn't let me down. Chapeau!
