Over You

Rate this book
Goodreads Choice Awards Finalist Stevie J. Cole brings you a story of the ultimate tortured rock star and his one true love. I fell for the boy who wore second-hand clothes and wrote love notes to me on gum wrappers. But that boy was destroyed when he became Spencer Hailstorm, the lead singer of the multiplatinum rock band, Midnite Kills. Devoured. Digested. And spat out in designer clothing. Fame was a four-letter word that slowly killed every part of me, every part of him. Each last piece of us. We may have parted ways, but I never got over him. And right now, he’s at my front door saying he never got over me. . .

This turned out to be quite an enjoyable little read. It was a fairly short book, so I whizzed through it in under two hours. I think I would have liked it to be a little longer though. A little more development of their early relationship, and a little more fleshing out of the story after he gets clean. We spend a good portion of this book with them apart (a year and a half??), and I felt that part of the story was unnecessarily long. Spencer's parade of bad decisions got a little tiresome to read about after a while. Then when he finally decides to get clean, it all fell into place a bit too easily and quickly. (IMO)

description

Those issues aside, I still thought it was a great story. It isn't often you find a rock star book with no OW drama. Oh, there were still groupies that touched him and propositioned him, but he stayed faithful to Georgia. So that was a bonus.

THERE ARE SOME FLSHBACKS FROM PAST.

🧁NO-CHEATING. PLEASE!!! THERE IS NADA CHEATING, DO NOT WORRY YOUR NEURONS!!!!

👉Many of you HATE books with OM//OW drama, but see friends....this is NOT only about that, this book is about SO MUCH MORE.

👉I KNOW ...SOME OF YOU HATE OW TROPE, BUT PLEASE READ THIS BOOK FOR MORE THAN THAT .....NOT THE OW ISSUES....OK? IT'S BEYOOOOOND THAT.

🙄BECAUSE, AS I HAVE TOLD YOU, THIS BOOK IS NOT 200 PAGES SHORT LIKE OTHERS, WHO START WITH THE FIRST MEETING OF MCs , there is ow/om crap, insta-everything, bang-bang, Hea...NO!! NO!!! NO!!!!! THIS IS BIGGER THAN THAT!!!!!!!!

😳THIS DEALS WITH SERIOUS ISSUES THAT ROCKSTARS GO THROUGH.

🤠This is the journey of SPENCER HAILSTORM ( that name is FOREVER etched in my heart) from when he was LITERALLY nothing to RISE TO FAME, and 10000000 Of ADORING FANS!!!!

🦞THIS BOOK DEALS WITH THE INNER DEMONS OF A ROCKSTAR AND HOW MUCH , A LOVED ONE SACRIFICES FOR YOU TO TAKE YOU AWAY FROM ALL THOSE DEMONS...EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO!!!!

🦹‍♀️🦹‍♀️THE HEROINE IN THIS BOOK IS NOT LIKE THE USUAL SASSY/SWEET/SHY/DOORMAT/VULNERABLE/BITCHY/JEALOUS/etc etc etc...she is EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT.

😍😍😍😍😍I LOVE THE WAY SHE LOVED SPENCER EVN AFTER HOW MESSED UP HE WAS!!!!!

😍😍😍MANY WOULD HAVE...DEFINIELY HAD......1000% HAD GIVEN UP ON SPENCER!! BUT SHE DID NOOOOT!!! NO!!! SHE FOUGHT FOR HIM!!! HELPED HIM!!! UPROOTED HIM!!!!!!

🤔🤔Sometimes, i felt Spencer got more than he deserved, but you know what? The kind of messed up he was....Georgie was the PERFECT girl for him. If it weren't for her, he would have been destroyed!!!!

😯😯I CAN'T STOP BOASTING ABOUT HER BECAUSE SHE WAS SO SO SO SO STRONG!!!!! YOU HAVE LITERALLY NO IDEA WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.

😌😌One more info that you need is,.........both MCs have been together since they were 17 y/old.

🙁If i were to compare this couple to real world couples......i'd say that they are what i think once ARIANA GRANDE AND MAC MILLER would have been.

😯Because i remember that Ariana telling everyone that how much he helped Mac get over his drugs problem but he was......incurable, they loved each other SO VERY MUCH.

She was SO heartbroken when MAC died of drug-overdose.

RIP MAC. 😭🙏🙏

BUUUUUUT, This....This book....it's,..........i cried SO MUCH. 😣😣😣

I apologise if i said too much, i can't reveal the plot because some stories are worth the surprise aren't they?

I’m gonna be honest here, this book is not very exciting, gets kinda boring BUT it is in fact a love story because they are FAITHFUL.

Hero being faithful should be the rule when it comes to romance but unfortunately it’s an exception, so when I read this and notice that this is about a rockstar struggling with addiction who never once did anything with other woman I liked it and I know this is his obligation as a man claiming being in love but I still appreciate the author for writing it that way. Heroine is faithful too.

They spend a year apart because she left him. He was an addicted who didn’t want to really deal with his drugs problems, well at least not enough to make a change. He was rude to her and she threw away his drugs. He arrived home looking for a fix and couldn’t find it so he broke things during his search and later when she saw the mess he made she decided to leave him. She left saying that if he makes three months sober she would come back. Well, a couple days before he goes to her one year later he was high as fuck and was arrested for walking naked on the street so yeah the three months thing didn’t work.

Their marriage is not a public information because she wanted privacy and his label likes the rock star drugs sex and rock n roll image so he signs autographs on girls chests, and by contract he had to flirt with some of the fans so obviously she endured a lot. He doesn’t like it and is never interest in any other woman.
An exemple of that when they are separated
“I stopped to sign a few autographs, took a handful of pictures, and let some girl cop a feel.”

What pissed me off is the fact that heroine thinks all the right things during an argument with the hero, but she doesn’t say it. Ahhh it was frustrating because it made her look weak

There is no grovel at all. The first and only time he went looking for her he was drunk and high and she has a severe case of body betrayal syndrome but when he starts tickling her (they are laying on her bed) he feels sick and runs to the bathroom to puke. Next day they are fucking and he asks for seven days with her promising he is going to be sober. She has to deal with his mood swings while he is feeling the effects of missing the drugs in his system. The only real apology we get from him is like that “I’m sorry I did this to us.” and that is her reply I’m sorry I left.”
I HATE IT when the heroine apologizes and feels guilt when she is not angry. Girl please the guy is an addictive who doesn’t want seek treatment why the fuck are you sorry? You love him I get it but baby you gotta love yourself more and there is nothing wrong with it in fact I called it self respect and preservation.

Because I consider it safe I rated this book 3 stars
I wouldn’t mind if she wasn’t celibate bc she sends him divorce papers for six months but he refuses to sign it saying marriage is forever
She was a virgin and although after laying eyes on her he said he never touched any other woman he is eighteen when they met so I would like clarification about him also being one

** there is a moment when a woman pushed him down on the couch and sat on his lap and he thinks that they could get naked together but this would not only meant nothing to him while for her would be a bid deal and when they finish he would only feel guilt. Not even for a minute he incentives her

“ I took a long swig of my drink and, for a second, I rolled the taste of her around in my mind. After all, Georgia wanted a divorce, and I wondered if maybe this girl could fill that gaping hole for a short time. We could spend an hour together naked and tangled up in sheets. An encounter that would be meaningless to me while somehow meaning everything to her. She’d feel validated, and I’d still feel empty as fuck. And guilty. . .”

After that the girl takes a photo of them and he shoves her off his lap

4,5 💔❤️❤️💔 🎶⚡️🎸🗼⏳📝🌟🌟🌟🌟s❣️❣️❣️❣️

This story differed so much from other rock stars books I have read.
It was full of emotions, exquisitely written and the characters were real and tangible. Drug and Love addiction are the elements that force apart two souls who had so many dreams to chase, were and still are in love and were meant to be together forever.
However, two persons have to be strong for a solid relationship, not one of them.
“That guy she had fallen in love years ago was long gone and, as far as I could tell, he hadn’t left a return address.” Spencer
How many tomorrows came and went as he kept promising he would be sober the day after.... More than enough...
This was a heartbreaking story, raw, full of hope, struggle, fear and ...❤️gum wrappers❤️

"Gods don’t play by the same rules as mere mortals, babe. And we are dating Gods.”
Yup, they ARE Gods. Living larger than life lives, constant euphoria, innumerable screaming fans, sycophants, hangers on, moochers, ground worshippers, idolisers........and suppliers/enablers.

description

Spencer Hailstorm married his high school sweetheart, Georgia Anne and their life consisted of  counting pennies and making bucket lists. But they were in love and chasing dreams while holding hands is rosy and romantic.
What happens when they grasp those dreams?
Where do they go after they've reached the pinnacle of success?
........downhill! Down the road of sex, drugs and Rock 'n Roll

“I would rather die than live without you.”
“I’d rather live without you than watch you die.”

It's a self inflicted wound that spreads deep and rots their relationship and the only way to salvage herself and save Spencer --Georgia quits and takes a Self Discovery Pilgrimage !
His songs lose meaning and lyrics which were all about the girl he loved become I'm Sorrys, I love yous  and Please. God. Please
It's sad to see Gods fall from grace and show us their mortal, fragile side. Trembling, shaking, jittery limbs, sweat drenched body and volatile moods

I fell hard in the story. It's just touched me deep. Watching this train wreck, I'm not sure I'll ever envy the highly glamorous rockstar lifestyle ever!
Stevie elicits pathos and sympathy with her pen dipped in pain. It's a pathetic situation brought alive with tender care
Lesson learned- Love and drugs make us liars and fibbers. The promised Tomorrow never comes!
Instead of Happily Ever After it's Happy In Progress.

I didn't expect this kind of story even I read blurb first.
It is very sad story - heavy drug and alcohol addiction and what effect addiction has on love relationship. I liked first 50% very much, later story just lost appeal a little bit. Maybe it was too short and couldn't developed some deeper story.

Well, Stevie J. Cole pulled me in with a blurb on a site last week. I was hooked and just had to read more about Spencer and Georgia. I was finally able to sit down with their story last night and finished it off this morning. Yep, it's that good.

Spencer and Georgia both come from dysfunctional and broken backgrounds and basically didn't "know" love until they found one another. They married young and dreamed big. Then the dreams came true and they lived the dream. Then the nightmare began and they couldn't find their way out of it...

Spencer made it big - he is a huge rockstar. He and Georgia have EVERYTHING that money can buy but they aren't happy. They have experienced a loss that money cannot fix and instead of trying to deal with it, Spencer is escaping through drug use. Those around him in the industry excuse and enable it.
"...fame was a four-letter word, a virus that was slowly killing every part of me, every part of him. Each last piece of us."

Spencer continually promises Georgia that "I'll be sober tomorrow" but can never seem to follow through. She finally realizes that by staying with him, she's enabling him too and she leaves him in the hope that she will actually be saving him... "Tomorrow came and went."

The rest is the story of how they come apart and eventually find their way back to one another. As bad as Spencer's drug use gets, and it gets pretty bad, he never falls to the temptation of cheating and Georgia never strays either. Their love remains solid. Spencer has to figure out how to love himself and Georgia more than the escape that the high brings him.

This was an incredibly difficult book to read at times. All the more since it is told from both Spencer and Georgia's points of view. You are able to see things from both perspectives which helps the reader to really feel and understand how truly hard it is to be either of them. Drugs were Spencer's addiction and Spencer was definitely Georgia's.

"Love is an addiction we all fall victim to, and it's the only addiction with the power to heal."

"...I understood that fairy tales may not exist but love stories do."

Title: Over You
Author: Stevie J. Cole

OVER YOU 22.jpg

I've read my fair share of second chance romance plus rocker romance. But never have I read a book that felt like a breath of fresh air until OVER YOU.

I love love loved Over You so much!

Love is an addiction we all fall victim to, and it's the only addiction with the power to heal.

Spender and Georgia's story is heartbreak, beautiful and raw.
This book is about strength, resistance, love, determination and loyalty.

Over You has so much beauty! It's honestly heartbreaking yet filled with so much love. I felt myself rooting for these fictional characters to come out stronger than ever. I was cheering for Spencer to overcome his addiction.

OVER YOU LIVE.jpg
I can't say I was disappointed with Spencer whenever he turned back to the darker side of fame and fortune... but yes, I was disappointed but at the same time, my heart hurt of him.
I will never know what it's like to be in Spencer's shoes and nor will I pretend to know but if this book gave us even a little glimpse on the darker, alluring, mind-numbing yet hypnotic, addictive side of addiction... my heart bleeds for those who are trapped into the vortex.
TEASER NOW LIVE.jpg

I loved that this second chance romance wasn't about finding love at a young age and separating for years and years, only to stumble upon each other and fall madly in love...No. This book was about the cruel beauty and struggle of a marriage. It's not all sunshine and butterflies. And I loved every moment of OVER YOU.

Spencer and Georgia will steal your heart!

I have a feeling I'll be re-reading this book over and over again.

4.5 new1

Overall this story is very touching and romantic. Both couples fight for their love since they were very young. Even though in their circle of life is getting way out of hand, the hero is a addict but he never even once cheated on the heroine. The heroine never doubt his love for her and never takes anyones negativity thoughts about them. THEIR LOVE AND CONNECTION IS FCKING AMAZING SOOOOO ROMANTIC🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 it made me aweee many times. So worth it to read!

What I don’t like:

1. The story have so many times in it that the hero is busy being a addicted guy with drugs rather than chasing the heroine after 3 months they separated and when the heroine give him a chance. Its like the hero only fight for her but not fight for her 100% tho and thats annoying lol.

2. The hero always doubts himself because of his past that even doesn’t compare with a bad one but he uses it to be self pity on himself.

Just that.

3.5 “I am so not ‘Over’ this author”- stars.

First time reading Cole. Absolutely intrigued by her writing. For such a short book it was extremely powerful. Heartbreak, struggles, acceptance and love was pouring from the pages.

Spencer and Georgia Anne’s story was intense.

The story was written fluently and it was captivating. I didn’t get the “WAUW, if I stop reading I will die”- feeling, but I was definitely turning the pages faster than a hummingbird flapping its wings. It’s definitely an author to look out for- that’s for sure, guys.

Read: 25/04/2019
1st rating: 3.5 stars (almost a 4 guys)
Genre/sub-genres: Second chance/romance/rockstar/no-cheating
Cover: 4 stars- it’s a stunner. Well..he is😂
POV: Dual - 1st person (Georgia & Spencer)
Will I recommend: Yes

‘Over you’ is the first book that I read from Stevie J. Cole. I love reading rock star books and second chance romance stories and when I read in a review that there was also no cheating involved, I was immediately intrigued by the story so I had to read it.

‘Over you’ is a story about a young married couple Spencer and Georgia. Spencer’s lifelong dream has come true. He and his music band are famous and wanted by everyone. But sadly, the dream also has a dark side, Spencer has develop a drug addiction. And although Georgia loves her husband very much, she has come to a point in her life where she can’t take it anymore. It hurts too much to lose Spencer more and more to the drugs. So Georgia makes the hard decision to leave him. Spencer doesn’t want to lose her but fighting an addiction is hard. Can they find each other again or has Spencer’s addiction destroyed everything between them??

For me this story felt a bit different than other rock star stories that I have read and I found it in a way refreshing. Because this is a story about a couple that love each other very much but are fighting a battle against an addiction and that is very hard. It’s a fight that never ends, that you have to fight every day again and again. I really felt for Spencer and Georgia, you really felt their love and their heartbreak and I loved the fact that Spencer stayed faithful to Georgia the whole time.
The story is told from both POV’s and for me the story felt like a ‘light’ but emotional story.

I would have loved some more interaction between the couple, to see a bit more how everything was between them before Spencer’s addiction (but that’s my personal view). I was very happy with how the story ended. Realistic but hopeful.

Over You is a heartfelt, heartbreaking journey. Addiction mars their love. It stole him away. It's killing her to watch him kill himself. Stevie J Cole locks the reader in the very first page. The palpable shame, hurt, and love for a person so lost they don't even know it...It's intense. I both raged like beast and wanted to curl up in a ball and cry and that was just the first couple of pages.

The intense emotions cover the full spectrum. Pain, loss, despair, anger, love, heartbreak, heartache, longing, elation, fear. It bleeds from the pages. It bottles up in your stomach and clenched your insides. Over You is a lie. A lie they tell themselves. A lie they breathe to get on with their day. A lie even they don't believe.

Over You is hope in a hopeless dark room. It's a dream, a nightmare, and reality. It's proof "fairytales may not exist but..."

What you thought I would ruin the book and give you a quote? Have you no shame! No, I won't ruin this tumultuous journey. I won't give you anything more than a smile, a good luck, and a sniffle. (The sniffle wasn't voluntary. I can't help it.) It just shows I'm not "OVER YOU".

4.5 Gum Wrapper Stars

Give me a good Rocker book any day and I will read it! Toss in a bit of addiction problems along with the Rocker…I will devour it.

I absolutely love reading this kind of book. One that takes you through the daily life of a rock star battling with addiction demons. Stevie J. Cole delivered just that with this quick read book.

What a good second chance romance dealing with Spencer the Hot rock n roll band member. Fighting his addiction that is winning the battle. Losing the battle is his wife who has been with him for years. He rescued her so why has she left him when he needed her the most?

Different.

I really liked this story. It’s a change from my usually read but something made me try it. I have a thing for loyal hero’s and he was above and beyond. The fight in this story wasn’t between the hero and heroine, they loved each other fiercely. The struggle was between him and his addiction, and what that would mean for the future of their marriage. There was no cheating and or other woman/man drama.

This book gutted me, I laughed and I cried, and I yelled at my kindle. What happens when you fall in love and become high school sweethearts and you have the world at your feet? You start a life and work at it. This is what Spencer and Georgia did. They fell in love and took it all the way until they were struggling until Spencer made it big and everything went down hill for them.

The saying sex, drugs, and rock and roll was their motto until Georgia wanted something better for her and Spencer. She had to leave Spencer and get clean and after she got clean she had to decide whether or not she was going to stay with Spencer because all he wanted to do was party but when he realized he lost the love of his life he was willing to do whatever it took to get her back.

This is an amazing story that will pull at your heart strings and have you crying right till the end but it is worth it!

This story is surely a good attempt at the drug addiction that Spencer seems to have acquired while pursuing his rockstar status.
His wife, Georgia suffers.
It's well written but it really isn't as ugly as it could be. I like how desperately they want to communicate and be there for each other. Good read.

Spencer Hailstrom has it all. He’s gorgeous, talented and women lust after him. Being a bad-ass rock star helped his cause, too. Only he isn't interested as he’s hopelessly in love with his best friend and the love of his life, Georgia Anne. And the other love of his life, cocaine. A drug addict’s best friend.

Georgia Anne has it all; well not quite all. She’s head over heels in love with Spencer; the difference is he seemed to love his habit more. They’ve both reached the top together and now it’s falling apart at the seams. Spencer’s slowly killing himself, his career and his marriage. He can't see it; chasing his addiction has no rival. In and out of rehab isn’t working either, not even the threat of losing his wife is making an impact.

Finally, the time comes when Georgia Anne says enough is enough, and who can blame her! Certainly not me. This book not only pulled at my heartstrings, but made me angry at the same time. I felt the pain Georgia Anne was going through. I felt her helplessness to care for the man she loved. She couldn't bear watching his slow self-destruction. So what may you ask did she do? One-click and you'll find out!

When does an addict eventually realize that they have lost everything dear to them? Will it take something life-changing for Spencer to finally come to the conclusion that things need to change. No-one can help you if you can't help yourself, that is my own personal mantra. Will he help himself? Will Georgia Anne move on with her life and find her happy ever?

This story has it all. Love, hate and angst. Delving into a subject which has its consequences, I felt the author covered it perfectly with the right amount of sensitivity. There were some parts in the book where I really want to give Spencer a smack and shout at him, you dumb…, don't throw it all away. Don't kill yourself, you stupid schmuck! Yup, I felt it all. So, will these sweethearts ride off into the sunset together or will they go their separate ways? Congratulations to the author on a well-written book.

I am a sucker for rockstars. The angst. The toxic. The rollercoaster ride is my jam.

I really enjoyed this one! Spencer and Georgia Anne were inseparable no more after he caught sight of her in the moonlight, sitting on her roof trying to escape her horrors for even just one moment.
They dreamed big dreams of him becoming a rockstar and finally it happened. Their late-night promises, bucket lists and gum wrappers were not far from their minds despite him falling down deeper and deeper into the dark hole that can be Hollywood and "living the life".

She stuck by him through SO much. His addiction just became his one true love and she had to think about herself even though she knew they would feel this cut the deepest. She needed him to love her more!! She needed him to remember why. Needed to remember her, him and how they were before the mansion, fancy cars, clubs and blow.

I absolutely feel like redemption was made. I just wish this book was longer because I truly adored this couple and wanted more of them. It was refreshing that he stayed true from day one.
I feel like the end (their reuniting, his recovery) happened too fast and felt a tad bit rushed. It was almost "too easy" - although, one part towards the end had me holding my breath. OMG!

Really though, give this one a go. Don't think you'll be disappointed.

Free Fallin'
That feeling can be applied to both being in love and being high. The correlation between the both becomes very clear in Over You. Spencer and Georgia Anne, a rock couple that allows you front and center on being married and the havoc success and drugs can cause even in the most loving of couples. There is no sugar coating here. Anyone that knows someone that suffers from addiction can recognize the selfishness in the user and the toll it has on the sober partner. My favorite line in this book (and there are plenty) is Georgia reflecting "Living with an addict made me feel like an addict" Anyone that has been there knows how true this is. While this book depressed me - I had hope for this couple, however it seemed too much to overcome on their own, especially for Spencer. He had some very good qualities but as hard as the struggle is to end addiction, I wasn't convinced at the end that his one day at a time approach and being 100% in love was realistically going to be enough.

This may be my first Stevie book, but it surely won't be my last. I literally read this book in one sitting, and I very rarely do that. I loved that this book didn't follow all the normal rock star drama. It focused on Spencer's addiction, and how that affected their marriage. I really felt for Georgia and how she struggled to cope through the hell that addiction brings with it. My emotions were all over the place, but the fact that Spencer stayed true to Georgia even at his lowest made me love him that much more. I rooted for this couple and really wasn't sure how it was going to end, which is probably why I never put it down! Great read!

The path to forgiveness starts with love! An amazing story that will have your emotions running wild! I loved that the story focused on addiction and their love story! It didn’t over glorify the rocker life and though some questions lingered about the band and her friends it didn’t bother me because to me they weren’t what the story was about! The story was about redemption, forgiveness and finding your way in the dark! It was about the beauty and pain of love!

3.5 I’ve read this author before and I really liked it. This one the same. My complaint is we didn’t see the couple together as much. It was more about the drugs. I kept reading thinking I would see the guy cheat but he never did. Like wow 😮 I was so not expecting that since that’s all these rockstars books are about. Why I don’t read them in the first place. So thank you for changing that.

Wow !! Totally different from your typical bad boy rock star book. A second chance love story but more of a True Love story for me. I loved this couple. Spencer and Georgia Anne’s story is raw and heartbreaking but full of hope. Great writing!!!

AN ADDICTION OF LOVE AND DRUGS

This book was really deep and ultimately hit what it is like to be an addict and to be in love with one.

My heart ached for the two main characters - Spencer (the addict) and his wife Georgia Anne who he calls Rapunzel and has a tattoo of as well! So fucking cute I was grinning like a mad woman.

Tours. And parties. A backstage full of drugs

description

This story shows how love can be an addiction and it can be unconditional no matter who you fall in love with and who they turn out to be. Fame is highlighted here as something which ruin a persons life and soul. It turns you into something else and dictates your life. It breaks relationships and really tests a persons patience.

The industry had taken both things I was passionate about—Georgia and music—and shit all over them

description

“Spence. I promise I won’t leave you.”
I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “And I promise I’ll still be sober tomorrow.”

This definitely a great read which can open your eyes to fame and drugs but also make you all mushy and jealous at the same time.
