A strong focus on the Kafna trials. A three part Grueling test featuring a written examine, Q and A, and a group project. Although this third installment seemed to wane with excitement, it still possessed its redeemable qualities of rich ancient lore and more back story about the world Theo lives in. Diversity seems to be one of the main focuses. Theo discovers more about himself and the final revelation if he becomes a Kafna after all...

This was another superb volume. The end of this volume marks the conclusion of an arc, and it gives such a satisfying parting that the reader can ruminate on it while waiting for the arrival of the next volume.
This collection is as well written and well drawn as always. The author's strength lies in the way how each panel and page is crafted and composed to draw out the emotion of the scene. This makes it very intimate as each joy, sorrow, and triumph that Theo experiences, the reader is along with it.

An absolutely perfect volume.

I've thought long and hard about why this volume was not only better than the preceding volume, but better to me than the first. The art was as excellent, especially that splash page where young Theo has climbed into the clouds atop a stack of inspiring literature. Also of note were the wondrous architectural renderings and the otherworldly character designs for the spirits and Rogue Spirit. Mitsu Izumi sets a high standard for illustration excellence. However, it was the story that stood out for me. After the stalled focus of volume two, volume three had a tight narrative even despite introducing so many new characters. In addition, the resolution of the story (and conclusion of this story arc) in Theo's home town was sentimental with a balanced touch while still providing a satisfactory ending with emotional impact. Overall, I found myself moved by the storytelling, and wished I could tell stories with such skill.

I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THIS IS A VERY UNDERRATED MANGA
Character Depth
The character developments escalate in this volume! Just when you think you cannot love them more, they do increasingly incredible things. Theo is growing up so well I almost teared up by the end of the book. One of the cutest, kindest, smartest protagonists ever!
Plot Development
There is also more conflict in this volume, the plot has progressed enough that some sinister characters are introduced and hoooooo boy the character designs and overall mystery factor are spicy.

I have a major crush on all these powerful, elegant, eloquent and book-loving librarians. One of them, Sedona, can just whisk me away and marry me right now.

I love how this series manages to touch on real-world issues while still grounding them in a fantasy realm. It's just good world building and writing.

I continue to love and adore this series.
Theo's love for knowledge and books just makes my bookish heart soar! The exam to become a Magus of the Library was much more involved than I was expecting! I am so invested in this, and I want Theo to thrive in whatever environment he ends up in long term.
I did enjoy the discussion about racial differences that was approached in this volume. It talks not only about the race of the individual, but also the culture behind it. It talks about modesty in some cultures, and how others don't have the same mentality. It was really well handled.
I'm so excited to see where this is going to go long term!

Suite de Magus of the Library, et c'est de mieux en mieux ! J'aime énormément ce manga. C'est un appel à la lecture, à la recherche du savoir, à la tolérance, à la rencontre des autres... De belles valeurs ! Les illustrations sont magnifiques !
Jaime aussi le mélange des références : arabes, orientales surtout dans le second tome, amérindiennes dans les noms des tribus, africaines dans les légendes... Bref, c'est très très riche.

An exam to become a librarian? Not in our world but in this world it makes sense. Kafnas, librarians, control the dissemination of books and send them to regional libraries. Our hero has taken the exam and waits for the results. There are once again hints that he has a bigger role to play in the fate of the land.

Encore un tome parfait. C'est beau, c'est charmant, c'est émouvant, c'est mignon, et ça donne le sourire. Le rythme est juste parfait : ni trop lent, ni trop rapide, juste ce qu'il faut. J'ai beaucoup aimé les moments de l'épreuve, notamment l'épreuve à plusieurs. Ce passage montre bien qu'il faut de tout pour faire un monde et que différents caractères peuvent donner un super résultat au final. Et, comme je l'ai déjà dit auparavant, le lore est introduit de façon vraiment progressive et le dosage est encore une fois parfait. Bon et, évidemment, les dessins sont magnifiques. Vraiment. J'en envoie à tout le monde sur messenger, je dois les embêter à force lol.

Para mi, esta historia sigue siendo una auténtica maravilla, al nivel de una de las grandes novelas de fantasía épica que tanto disfruto leyendo. La historia, rodeada de magia y con un worldbuilding extenso y cuidado, te atrapa desde el principio, los personajes, diferentes, llenos de grises y con transfondo pronto se ganan tu amor y simpatía y, las ilustraciones, más cuidadas de las que he visto en cualquier otro manga, hacen que viajar al mundo de Kafna sea facilísimo. Una gran obra que nunca me cansaré de recomendar.

An inspiring story of a boy making his way in the world! The world is rather obsessed with books, and full of spirits and magic. Theo attempts a group project with some fellow examinees, and gets caught as a bystander when a rogue spirit attacks!

Учора нарешті отримала третій том "Чарівника бібліотеки" і маю сказати, що ця манґа в моєму топі посуває "Ательє чаклунських капелюхів" і виходить на перше місце. Адже це історія про любов до книжок, вона не може не захоплювати.
Хто не знає, "Чарівник бібліотеки" — це розповідь про хлопця-напівкровку на ім'я Шіо, який мріє стати кафною — поважним охоронцем книжок і бібліотеки. У цьому світі — світі після великої війни та катастрофи — значущість книжок дуже висока. Є центральна бібліотека, де під пильним наглядом зберігаються всі тексти, саме на неї хоче працювати головний герой. Книги тут — це і джерело знань, і джерело мрій. Вони надихають та змушують жителів континенту прагнути до більшого. Хоча, як стає зрозуміло з додаткових матеріалів до третього тому, книжки можуть бути небезпечними й провокувати геноцид, тому певна інформація регулюється бібліотекою.
У третьому томі Шіо завершує іспити на кафну, знайомлячись ще з кількома персонажами. Цікаво, що з усіх фентезійних манґ, де є іспити на якусь круту роль, у "Чарівнику бібліотеки" іспити проходять найменш драматично. Учасники не починають влаштовувати між собою бійки, і посеред завдання не вривається раптово якийсь лиходій. Хоча конфлікти, звісно, виникають, і ми спостерігаємо, як Шіо з іншими персонажами їх вирішують. Завдання теж не екстримальні, але випробовують учасників на потрібні для кафни характеристики і вимагають від них повної зосередженості, витримки та вміння співпрацювати. Для того, щоб стати кафною, не потрібно "ліквідовувати" інших учасників — потрібно якнайкраще показати себе. Одним словом, дуже адекватні іспити.
До оголошення результатів треба чекати місяць, і Шіо впевнений, що завалив. Цікаво спостерігати за його міркуваннями, що йому робити далі — варіантів у нього чимало. Але він відмовляється складати іспит наступного року. Отриманий досвід показав йому, що світ набагато ширший і є кілька способів жити заради того, що для тебе важливе.
"А найдивовижніше у мрії те, що здійснити її — то не головне. А втратити — не означає кінець. Мрія — один з орієнтирів на шляху, і на ньому їх може бути безліч".
Але ж ми-то, читачі, знаємо, що доля вготувала для Шіо якісь великі звершення. І справа не лише в тому, щоб стати кафною і виконувати різні завдання. Ні, третій том натякає, що тут залучений набагато масштабніший конфлікт. Мир крихкий, колишні домовленості тріскаються, і хтозна, до чого це все призведе.
Дуже розчулила сцена прощання Шіо з сестрою. Її зусилля дати брату хороше майбутнє виправдали себе. І Шіо чудово усвідомлює, що вона для нього зробила. Він сповнений до неї вдячності і любові, і розлука стає гірко-солодкою.
Одним словом, дуже рекомендую, якщо ще хтось не читав.

Just so we're clear, it is important to bring your books back on time.
Three (massive) volumes in, and this remains one of my favorites I've read. In this volume, Theo takes his Kafna examinations, and I said a silent thanks that my personal college experience was nowhere near as rigorous. Three very different trials later, Theo is let loose to explore the city on his last day there, and he finds a bit more than he bargained for. He returns home then, to the family and friends that supported him (or didn't) on his path to Kafna. Did he pass the trials? Is he a Kafna now? That'd be a spoiler.
The artwork remains stellar. I loved the emphasis on the different aspects of librarianship reflected in the trials. In this age of Google and ready reference solutions we hardly have to recall each and every tiny fact about all aspects of history, but there's lots of similarities between their search for an answer and ours. I also liked the introduction of a larger, darker plot to all this, perhaps politically motivated? Too early to tell, but I liked the inclusion of intrigue.
I have volume 4 waiting for me on my shelf as we speak! Can't wait to continue!

I enjoyed reading this Volume. The final examination took place, we met new characters, we also saw some old ones. I love these manga so much! The art style, the plot, the characters...
We also got a character development here and I'm so happy about it because it can open so many doors in the bear future! And the end was satisfying! Shio Fumis finally can become what he was always dreaming! Now, his new journey starts and I'll follow it till the end.
I overall loved it and I'm wondering why I didn't pick up the series earlier.

¡Hola! Hace mucho que no leía manga y ya tenía ganas de volver a empezar una nueva historia. Como los libros son cortitos y rápidos de leer, os traigo las reseñas de los tres primeros libros de Magus of the Library, sin pretender hacer spoilers. Como ya sabéis, estoy metida en el mundo de la oposición a bibliotecas, y cuando vi estos libros pensé que solo sería ánime de bibliotecarios. Mi sorpresa fue al descubrir que es la historia de un chico que se quiere convertir en Kafna (bibliotercario) y estos tres primeros libros relatan la historia de su "oposición". ¡Me he quedado flipando! No podía sentirme más identificada.

I'm just thinking about how I picked this series up on a whim while I was in the library and had never heard or seen anything about it before. It's so good and it's so sad that not more people are reading it! A criminally underrated manga. Think it would make for such a good anime too. I'm really excited for the next arc!

Encore un tome passionnant, emprunt de cultures différentes et toutes misent en valeur. Je trouve ça remarquable comme on peut retrouver des éléments de notre monde réel dans ce manga et en même temps voyager dans un univers fait de magie et de mystères.

Мені все ще дуже подобається стиль автора і сама розповідь. Єдине, що мене починає хвилювати, то це те, що всього вийшло сім томів цієї манги і вона ще ніби як онгоінг японською. Здається, я буду чекати її до моєї старості, бо там один випуск в рік виходить. На що я підписалась?
