INTERVIEW WITH CARISSA ANDREWS

Q: What inspires your writing?

A: I've always had a passion for ancient history and old mythologies. I originally went to school for archaeology, but ended up studying ancient art, history, and literature. My life experience has also brought me to some very eclectic interests, which I've used to elaborate in my stories... For example, I'm a Reiki Master, I've studied mixed martials arts, and have a special place in my heart for the metaphysical. I wanted my stories to be a blend of not only the things I found fascinating, but the sort of tales that I knew my readers would be enthralled with. If you can put down one of my books, then I don't feel I've done my job.

Q: What other books are tied to Trajectory?

A: Trajectory is a prequel novelette to the Pendomus Chronicles, a young adult scifi/fantasy/dystopian series available for readers who love genre-bending speculative fiction. All available titles include:

Trajectory: A Pendomus Chronicles Prequel (best read after the main series)
Pendomus: Book 1 of the Pendomus Chronicles
Polarities: Book 2 of the Pendomus Chronicles
Revolutions: Book 3 of the Pendomus Chronicles

Q: What other books can readers enjoy?

A: In addition to the ones listed above, I also have some supernatural thrillers you’ll want to dig into. Those titles include:

The Final Five: Novelette
Oracle: A Diana Hawthorne Novel
Awakening: Rise as the Fall Unfolds
Love is a Merciless God

An interesting glimpse into the lives of a couple of characters in a future world. Runa, a young woman who yearns to work outside the Helix, to study nature. Traeton, a young man living outside the Helix in the Lateral, who had escaped the Helix 5 years earlier.

Trajectory is the prequel novel to Carissa Andrew's Pendomus Chronicles, and it gives us a little peek into some character origins - or at least I think it does. I feel like you'd need to read the part of the series first to truly understand the importance of what happens in Trajectory. But if you haven't read them yet, then prepare to be intrigued by two completely different worlds and the people within them.

I really liked the way the Helix was described. The glimpse of a potential utopian society, but we all know where that leads. The Lateral was also interesting, but not so much because of the society, but the characters. I felt like I got to know them better than the Helix characters.

Definitely worth the read if you have read or plan on reading the Pendomus Chronicles.

Excellent prequel to Pendomus

I would have sworn I'd read this before today, but I just realized I hadn't. So I took about an hour and read it, and this is a fantastic intro to the world of Pendomus, which I loved thoroughly. You probably would understand this better after having read the series, but it does set up what happens before the action takes place. But the worldbuilding all takes place in the series. This assumes you've read the series. So read after! But definitely read! Great book!!

The title seems to include two independent, yet interleaved threads in the same environment: Runa in one and Traeton in the other. Runa's quest is to prepare for working outdoors in a setting which prohibits that. Traeton, either in a different time or place, wants to live away from his main community. Both run into hiccups in their quests. The title comes to an ominous end with an indication that more is to come.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Haunting. Wonderful characters.

Interesting

This series looks interesting. It seems that there are two different societies living on Pendomas. Treaton's community seems normal and more rugged than Runa's. This was a bit of a tease but I like seeing a glimpse of what this series is like before I commit to reading it, which I will do.

Trajectory gives us a sneak peek into a brand new world the Pendomus Chronicles. The story is told from different points of view. The first is a young lady by the name of Luna. Luna lives inside a bubble called the Helix. No one who lives inside the Helix has been outside in a long time if ever. Luna wants to go outside and study the trees and nature. If she can get the permission she needs to go outside then maybe one day she can work and live in the outside world.

Another point of view is told from a young man by the name of Traeton. Traeton does not live in the Helix anymore he has been living on the outside for like five years now. Traeton has lived in the Lateral for a while now but he wants to relocate but first he wants to his friend Fenton to come with but he may have a hard time convincing Fenton to join him. Can Traeton convince Fenton to relocate with him? Lateral is the only home Fenton has ever known.

The world building in Trajectory is tremendously superb a world that I can’t wait to explore further. The characters were all very interesting and I really enjoyed getting to know them in this sneak peek into another new dystopian world. For a short read Trajectory has it all it has suspense, mystery and a big twist at the end that I can’t wait to learn more about.

I would recommend Trajectory to anyone who likes dystopian, mystery and a little suspense in their worlds.

The placement of the prequel seemed a little complicated to me. In the introduction to the novel
it says "Best to read after finishing the trilogy, as to not spoil some of the twists on the road ahead." So you as the reader must decide when this novella needs to be read. This novella is set a year before the novel Pendomus,. The author states that the purpose of this prequel is to ground you in the world of Pendomus. The focus is on Runa Cophem and Traeton Revasco who have made a decision to break ranks from the world they know.

All that said the prequel was quite exciting. These decide that they want to escape the Helius so that they can live and learn from the world outside. This prequel leading the reader down an exciting road. You will not want to miss this journey. I received this prequel from Book Funnel. This is my true and honest review.

A short read that shows us the lives of Runa, Traeton, Fenton, and Kani before the events of Pendomus. Andrews does good enough of a job to allow you to read this one before you dive into the series, though she recommends to do so afterward.

However, I read it before I dug into Pendomus and I didn't come across too many spoilers. It gave me a chance to know the characters, glimpse at what life was like once upon a time in the Helix, and given the signs of Runa's rebellious streak, propelled me to read Pendomus.

As a prequel, the story is setting the characters for the rest of the series. What we learn is interesting enough but it is unfinished - Runa has her first day outside but nothing happens to her. We learn that she is being studied because she is different to everybody else but we don't know why. Quick read and easy.

A short story introducing the world of Pendomus. I have not read any of the other books in this series and was a bit confused by the alternating chapters of 2 different characters (Runa and Traeton) and seemingly unrelated stories.

I really liked this story and it helped to see more of Pendomus Chronicles. The characters had more information on what happened in Pendomus book 1.
I am looking forward to reading more of this series.

There is a few things that I would like to say before getting into this review. I am not really a science fiction or dystopian novel type of person but this book sounded very interesting so I really wanted to try it out. I have also never read any of the other books in the series so I am not sure if that is part of the reason why there were times that I could not see what was being described.

The plot and the character development were amazing. I loved the plot, it reminded me of the dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell, the whole everyone is controlled by the higher ends (Government) but also seem to be watched and regulated on a daily basis. The main character longs for more and is curious about the "Outside". I loved the way the book ended. There was no cliffhanger, there was clearly an end but also left room for expansion into the following book. This book could actually happen in our near future if we continue the path that we are on. I also enjoyed the spacing and the font size of the page itself. It made it better for quick reading and also to be used as a reference for how many high schools/colleges want to see for the page layout.

The hardest part of this book for me was the fact that there seemed to be many flash backs every other chapter and the point of view changes. I am not sure why but I thought that maybe this could be two books. The way that it was done was well executed though. I did like near the end but I won't give anything away.
