Life in the Sunshine: Autobiography of an Unknown Cricketer
Sat, Sam, and Trib (a.k.a Triple sundae gang) are teenagers and they love cricket. They spend most of their time watching and playing the sport they love. They dream of making their living in the sport.
When they are not playing the game, they put on their thinking cap and come up with alternate versions of important matches or provide parodic answers to questions that have plagued cricket fans over the years.
However, fate intervenes in their idyllic life. On 18th April 1986, Javed Miandad hits Chetan Sharma for a six in Sharjah and leaves their cricket viewing life in tatters. The after-effects of this fateful event, continue to haunt them for many years.
Their problems don’t end there.
Sat fails to graduate from school level cricket to state-level cricket. He is heartbroken by the loss of his dreams and faces a mini identity crisis.
How do the boys solve their problems?
Will the boys ever recover from that Javed Miandad incident?

I would like to thank the author for providing me with a free in exchange for an honest review.
Cricket might be the Englishman’s game, but we Indians have raised it to the level of a religion. Yes, you heard or rather read it right. It is said that cricket is the biggest religion in India, which attracts loyal followers transcending religions, socio-economic status, academic qualifications and so on.
Why am I saying all this? In this story, cricket is like a character, not just a game! It is the central theme around which the lives of the characters revolve.
The story takes us to the eighties, and we meet three young boys: Sat, Sam and Trib ak.a. the Triple sundae gang. Like many if not most boys of our country, they love cricket and dream of playing in the national time. They also cook up absurd alternate versions of important cricket matches.
The boys would grow up and reality would hit hard. Sat and Trib, unable to make it to state-level cricket would turn to academics like countless middle-class boys.
Oh! Did I say the boys would also be haunted by an apparition? I better shut my big mouth now.
The book is pretty well-written. I enjoyed the school boyish antics as well the college life romance and mischief. Though Sat and Trib would not be professional cricketers, yet cricket continued to be a part of their lives. Lessons taught by the game would stand you in good stead in life also.
The depiction of the evolution of Indian cricket as well as the change in how Indians follow the matches – the journey from the radio to the colour TV, made for a fun read. If you grew up in the eighties and nineties, then the book would certainly evoke some “cricket” memories.
The story is relatable not only to cricket lovers but those who like light-hearted fun reads would enjoy the novel. If you can spare a couple of hours, you can actually read it in one sitting.

If you ask any person brought up in India between 1980-2010s, which organized game they played in their childhood, they will say Cricket. Though national level status is never given to the game by authorities, country citizens have given Numero Uno status to Cricket. India is one of the country (or I would say the only country) where the number of people watching cricket match when India played against Pakistan would be more than the number of people vote in Parliament election. So it was clear that the same craze would be passed on to the younger generation. Same was the craze of cricket in my childhood. We used to dream/act/pretended like a future cricketer.
"Life in Sunshine" is the story of such 3 friends. One was Sam a good player selected at different levels. Another was okay-okay (out protagonist - author) Sat who was trying his best to become a better player. The last one was Trib who as crazy about the sport but cannot give physical efforts for the same. So he wanted to be a cricket commentator. The story covers their life in different phases in between cricket.
My observations
1) You will find many relatable incidents while reading the story.
2) You may get nostalgic feeling due to similarity with your childhood.
3) Funny incidents, hiding weakness on the ground of excuses and getting the help of friends to prove you correct, does sound familiar?
4) Funny narration will make read lighter
5) Easy language. Light read
6) Best for traveling

Life in the Sunshine is a fiction story written by T. Sathish. In his debut book, he talked about the passion and love for the sport, Cricket. The simple cover page and title create curiosity. This is not an autobiography, the title misleads the readers.
In India, Cricket is not just a game, it is a religion and the players considered as Gods. Sat and his two best friends Sam and Trib connect with this sport at a very early age. Their dream is to play for India, and the motivation for this is an Audi car. The book embraces their journey and struggle. The way the author narrates childhood memories of the characters is mesmerizing. I like Sat's act of becoming a religious preacher of Cricket, or at least he tries to until his parents know. The boy named Abdul who is considered as a ghost because he only appears at India-Pakistan match and that too cheer for Pakistan boils the blood of Sam, Trib, and Sat. The chemistry between these three friends is remarkable.
The story revolves around different matches India played and the players for their good and bad performances. Sat, the protagonist learned some life lessons from real-life players and uses it in his college matches. As the title suggests, this book is not a story of some world famous cricketer. It is a story of ordinary boys who adore this sport, and their love for Cricket is undying. The book consists of the story of three childhood friends who share memorable moments with each other.
The book is fast-paced. It will definitely put a smile on the reader's face. The language is simple. I like the imaginary conversations of teenage boys after matches. As a reader, I wanted to know why Abdul always cheer for Pakistan Cricket team and his family background. I also wanted to read about the Sat relationship with his family which is missing. But overall, this book makes me smile a lot. I like the way the author makes it humorous at a few points. I recommend this book.

I am not a 90s kid, and neither am I a cricket fan. So it was a new and different experience for me. The author has mixed real world cricket incidents into the fiction aspects of the book and the result is quite good.
The main characters; Trib, Sam and Sat, we're very realistic and relatable. Their conversions, fun pranks, small moments we're really heart warming.
It portrays the cricket fandom quite well too. The author has tried to vividly describe everything. At times, I did feel that it was dragging but overall it was a good read.
If you are a fan of cricket then you should give it a shot.

I was a beta reader for this book - this is a honest review.
Life in the Sunshine, the debut novel by T. Sathish, is an excellent coming of age story. The story follows Sathish & his friends from the times they spend in school to college (and beyond) and how their passion for cricket has influenced and changed their lives. Sathish deftly uses cricket as both the background of the story as well as a metaphor for life itself. It is quite an intimate look into the author's life and this makes the story enjoyable and the characters relatable.
Now, I am not sure how much of this was fiction and otherwise, but I am sure quite a good chunk of it would have been autobiographical since the various incidents and anecdotes as well as the emotions that come through give it a feeling of authenticity. I was reminded of Malgudi Days when I read
Life in the Sunshine, especially in the fist half with all the shenanigans as well as the description of the day to day life of kids growing in a Chennai tambram family.
In addition, Sathish is obsessed with cricket, and this passion comes through whenever he talks about cricket in his story (which is a lot). But, ultimately, it is not just cricket that holds the various threads of the story together, but the characters in the book and. They are lifelike and make you care about what happens to them.
As an aside, I wish I had known this about Sathish when I first met him in our post-grad because I
would have ribbed him mercilessly coming and going.
In conclusion, Life in the Sunshine is an excellent book. It is must read if you are a child who grew up with Doordarshan, or like cricket or just enjoy a good Indian coming of age story.

When you say ‘cricket’ in India, there’s a sense of euphoria and loyalty that permeates the atmosphere, along with a brightening of the eyes. This sport affects so many people and shapes their lives into what they finally turn out that it simply becomes a part of them. They could go on and on for ages expounding knowledge about the sport, analyzing it, and playing it with a zeal that becomes so hard to find most times. And 'Life in the Sunshine: Autobiography of an Unknown Cricketer' is the story of three such people: Sat, Sam, and Trib, called the Triple Sundae.
These three characters are the thickest of friends, brought together by their mutual love of cricket. They support each other in their cricketing endeavors and have fun as they navigate the cricket in their own life as well as live through the Indian Men’s Cricket Team’s journey from 1986 onwards. Of course, if you’re talking Indian Cricket and not talking about Sachin Tendulkar, you’re not talking at all.
While the language used throughout the book is not exceptional, merely above average, it is engaging and humorous enough that you stick with the book till the very end. Being entertaining and informative is a tough thing to achieve but 'Life in the Sunshine' does it beautifully. Hardly have you turned a page than the author has a quirky comeback or comment that will have you sniggering to yourself while trying to retain the cricketing information that he’s skillfully doling out amidst the banters and experiences.
The funny thing about this book is that the moments it describes are vaguely familiar and I kept wondering why because many of them happened even before I was born. It took me back in time and watched as I looked on in awe. And I really didn’t understand how that was even possible because how do you experience, even in a vague memory-like state, something that you have never lived through before?
As children, we had the most ridiculous explanations and justifications for everything that happened around us. Kids like me, taking the smarter way out, didn’t tell anyone these explanations for fear of being mocked. 'Life in the Sunshine' has a number of preposterous settings conjured up for historical cricketing events. “It must have happened like this, we thought,” and thus goes on the explanation that you can’t help but laugh at and enjoy.
The best part about this book is that it doesn’t get preachy and philosophical while telling their story. Coupled with interesting insights and statistics of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team, it made me laugh and made my eyes twinkle of mirth when I wasn’t laughing out loud. How the Triple Sundae went from listening to cricket, to watching it, and then to learning and gleaning information from it. Not to forget the many life lessons they learned from this much-loved sport.
With Tamil terms sprinkled across the story, you get the feel of a Tamil accent and you’ll find yourself narrating the story to yourself in that accent. And some sentences, thanks to this, are amazingly funny!
The best part of this book is Abdul – a person who the three friends can’t stand because of his eerie, almost ghost-like existence taunting them about India’s losses to Pakistan. Now, in hindsight, I’m almost certain Abdul was a ghost, haunting the three friends and then leaving to go annoy the people of Pakistan. :P
Sathish’s life, combined with the course that the Indian Men’s Cricket Team takes while he’s living his childhood and teenage is a light, easy, breezy read that you can pick up on a dull Sunday evening and fill it with the colors of your laughter! Recommended!

Starting from the cover of the book is a portrayal of a young guy playing cricket with his mates, on the beachside with a ray of evening sunshine. It syncs with the blurb and story of the book. The title of the book is ‘’Life in the Sunshine: Autobiography of an Unknown Cricketer ‘’ is interesting and goes well with the plot.
A 90S Kid, who knows Sachin Tendulkar, will love this book, mainly those boys who are obsessed with cricket. It’s a complete package for cricket lover and there are many, who will enjoy their dreams again in this book.
Language of the story is basically simple and the grammar and script of the story is apparent and tranquil. The Cricket terms are used as per the demand of the story flow. People who have very less apprehension of cricket may find a little difficult but can get through. It has south slangs in between, that makes it related to the characters, as they live in Madras.
Characters are well explained and blended well with each other. Cricket scenes are explained parallel with the main story, showing the emotional journey too. Love and friendship showcased well with life lessons. The ending is good. Full score for that’s because it is just of the whole story.
A 90S Kid, who knows Sachin Tendulkar, will love this book, mainly those boys who are obsessed with cricket. It’s a complete package for cricket lover and there are many, who will enjoy their dreams again in this book.

Yes you heard it right. Author has brought up a very simple story in a different manner, which is every boy's dream in India, To Be A cricketer of Indian team. So did our protagonist, a middle class boy, Satish ( sat ) had a dream, who grew up watching cricket and one day declared he wanted to play for Indian cricket team, internationally.
Sat, along with his friends, Trib and Sam, starts practicing and gets to know more about the game.
In mid, he realizes that may be the game is not for him, so he decides to become a cricket preacher and his friends agree to him. With every day, every experience with this game, made Sat, grow up With more ideas and philosophy of life.
Satish's wife always claims that this game has given him nothing but satish's take on this is different.
He realizes that, the lessons this great sports teaches you, will last a life time and guide you through it.
Its about Satish, then what about Trib and Sam?

Language of the story is basically simple and the grammar and script of the story is apparent and tranquil. The Cricket terms are used as per the demand of the story flow. People who have very less apprehension of cricket may find a little difficult but can get through. It has south slangs in between, that makes it related to the characters, as they live in Madras.
Characters are well explained and blended well with each other. Cricket scenes are explained parallel with the main story, showing the emotional journey too. Love and friendship showcased well with life lessons. The ending is good. Full score for that’s because it is just of the whole story.

From school days to college days to settling in life, the story traces their love for cricket and growth from playing cricket in their colony to where life finally takes them.
The story also simultaneously gives commentary on Indian cricket team, the matches they played from mid 80s to 90s and evolution of everything connected to cricket. Change in the white uniforms to colorful play gear, new exclusive channels playing live cricket matches, commentators who are not ex-cricketers, extreme strategies from new team captains, everything that changed the face of cricket in that decade have been inculcated in the story.
The writer has put in a lot of effort to describe in detail all the matches played by the Indian cricket team as well as the fictional matches that the story characters take part in. The writer deserves a nice applause for these details including the bowling, batting actions along with field placements and the technicalities involved.
The first half starts with a bang but the story loses a bit of pace towards the middle part only to gather the required steam towards the end. The unexpected and not so conventional ending also adds to the story. The way the protagonist grows personally while learning from the international matches he watches and how he applies those lessons to his life are commendable.
If you are someone who has grown up watching and loving cricket like a majority of kids in this country, this book is a must read. For all the kids from 80s and 90s, this book will be a major nostalgic ride. Cricket. This one word alone means the world to a million people in our country. We may not listen our parents or obey our elders and teachers, we may not care about our exams or even our future but one thing that we follow sincerely, with our heart and soul in it is Cricket. Every child's dream born in this country would be to become a cricket player one day but only a few get to realise their dreams. But it's not the end. Cricket gives us more to learn just with its constant presence in our life. And I can say this as an avid cricket fan myself.
We all live in the era of T20 cricket now. Kids of this generation hardly know anything more than the fancy shots and huge sixes. But only do we know who have grown in the love of test cricket that what the game is and how it can actually help up through our life. And the author has done a great commendable job in conveying it to the readers in as simple a story as this one.
Coming to the book, 'Life in the sunshine' has a very pretty cover which reminds us mostly of the famous West Indian beach cricket. Title of the book is good too. It's more of an autobiography than a fictional storytelling just like the title says. The writing style of the author is an impressive factor. The language is very simple and doesn't contain hard vocabulary and makes it an easy and quick read for you.
The blurb covers most of the gist of the book so I wouldn't saying anything about that. The book is filled with humour, real life events , ups and downs , fun, pranks, and many more interesting events which keep you hooked to it. Just in 200 odd pages, the author has taken through his journey of life with cricket as his companion.
Highlight of the book for me is that even though it's written mostly for those who love cricket, the author has tried to include everyone into it and has given very good messages through cricket which anyone can inculcate in their life in general. Overall it's a very good read and since I am a huge cricket fan, I loved the book and it will always remain close to my heart.

The book is about a Sundae gang as they called themselves. (Sat, Sam and Trib). The teenagers love cricket and their aspiration is to play for India. They practice hard, orchestrate coaching classes by thinking their dream will come true.
At the same time, they watch all matches played by Indian cricket team from 1983 world cup final. They vigorously follow all matches by keeping a record of Test and One day matches played by Indian team. The India Vs Pak final, at Sharjah, Javed Miandad scores a six of the final delivery of Chethan Sharma was a blow for them.
Time goes by, Sat’s low confidence effects his cricket journey. The final part of the book is superbly written. How Sat regained his touch, confidence and came back to life is a secret. Please read this book.

The parts covering his childhood and early cricketing days are interesting and rollicking, Series by series, match by match, the book takes one into a journey back into time and helps one to relive the highs and lows of Indian cricket over the past 25 years. Some might be put off by the detailed series-by-series write-up, but personally I did not mind it at all. It was nostalgic remembering all the matches of years gone by.
It's a wonderful glimpse into how he felt about the game and his passion for the game etc.
The rest of the book plough on, really, and if you're well-versed with Indian cricket over the last few years, you could either be bored or thoroughly beguile if you consider it a sort of rewind session.
The book gives a detailed description of each match played by Indian cricket team during 80’s and 90’s. The autobiography is moving along with Indian Cricket teams tour matches. Also, the author takes back us to the old black and white TV era (especially solitaire TV with a shutter on it, I was having the same TV at my house) and our scuffle to watch the heroes in the early morning matches of New Zealand which starts by 3 a.m. ISTD. It took me genuinely to my childhood playing days. Thanks Sat….
As an avid Cricket fan, I love reading books on some of the personalities involved, peculiarly the 70's ,80's and 90’s when we were blessed with some of the greatest players in the modern era and I really loved the way they played for their countries.
The author goes in details through almost each of the Indian tours covering most of the test matches and tournaments played in 80’s and 90’s occasionally it can get moist for some of the readers. Apart from this I don't have any issues with the book.
In India Cricket is a game of passion and it goes to every child’s mind. But whoever plays cricket cannot wear Indian jersey. The book teaches how we can take positives in our life, through the game of cricket. Life in the Sunshine Is a delightful book, written with a gentle touch that shows both endearment for the characters.
If you are a cricket fan, you can start reading this book right now. I can guarantee you won't be crestfallen. The book served as a good refresher of the memory of both Indian cricket and their fans. Cricket is a sport of huge fanbase in India. People of all ages right from those small children to mighty old ones - everyone takes a slice in watching the game of cricket. It is not just a sport here but a passion, a religion.
Life In The Sunshine is a pleasing tale of a boy living cricket and loving it immensely only to lose it in the end. Trib, Sat, and Sam are three friends who were brought together by their common love for cricket. They bade their time in relishing the sport and imbibing its values in their own lives. They dreamt of making it to the Indian cricket team some day. However, destiny played well and only Sam went ahead clearing the primary level while Trib and Sat were left to bemoan. Sat was greatly attached to the sport but realized that perhaps, it was not where he was meant to be. In between all this conundrum, comes a Pakistani apparition Abdul who nags them really well. The story goes on to chart Sat's re-realization of his potential and finally making peace with what he is made to do in life.
The analogy between Cricket and life has been drawn out very well. I liked how the author puts forth his thoughts on living life through the values and lessons juiced out of the legendary cricketers' lives. Written in the first person, the book is a kind of memoir of a struggling cricket player who aspires to play for team India. The author deftly stepped into the shoes of his characters and brought out their intricacies. The character development is fine-tuned with the light but unique plotline. Not being an ardent lover of cricket myself, I presumed to not like the book much. But I am surprised at how this refreshing tale of dreams and friendship tickled my heart and made me smile. Several anecdotes of the cricket world have been inserted at places to supplement the narrative. That in itself brought a charm to the complete story. It seemed more real and relatable. Also, the guest appearances of Abdul were absolutely amazing. That particular element added meaning to the story.

Trib, Sam and Sat, the famous Triple Sundae gang are kids residing in the same neighborhood who become friends because of their common love for cricket. Their story starts from more modest days when the kids gang up and buy their first cricket kit by using funds from the elders of their colony. As they start taking cricket more seriously and attend cricket training camps, Sam turns out to be the star among the three with Sat aspiring but not able to catch up to the expectations of the coaches and selectors. Trib finds inspiration in background work of match commentary and is comfortable settling as a fulltime commentator. That however is not the case with Sat who is torn between his love for the game and struggle to become a cricket whom the selectors and the world find worthy. How are these friends going to end up in life and what happens to their cricket dreams? What is the journey of these friends, who like millions of other youngsters in this country literally worship cricket as a religion and cricketers as Gods, forms the rest of the story.

Cricket is a sport - watched by many - irrespective of age and gender. It is more than a sport but a religion in India.
Like everyone, even I have played, watched and enjoyed cricket wholly! When it comes to World cup and other tournaments like T20, the excitement in Indians is incomparable.
The book is beautifully wrapped around cricket, friends, and friendship. Met because of cricket, Sat (the protagonist and the author), Trib and Sam, stick through thick and thin and grow up as best friends in the new locality. Where Sam grows to become a cricket player, Sat and Trib find something much more than being a player. They connect with the sport and derive anecdotes from it applicable to life in general. It is through this sport that Sat learns about dedication, passion and staying united and optimistic. I loved how this thoughts were put forward by the author.
The book is more like a biography by the author. His struggles to become a cricketer and play for the Indian team. The book was a fresh take on dreams and friendships. The narration was nice to read through. The pace of the story, character development was good.
Though there were a few moments which I felt were redundant and unnecessary, but otherwise it was an enjoyable read. Cricket fanatics will enjoy more as there were a lot of facts and figures specially from the 80s and 90s of cricket era.

The book is more like a biography by the author. His struggles to become a cricketer and play for the Indian team. The book was a fresh take on dreams and friendships. The narration was nice to read through. The pace of the story, character development was good.
Though there were a few moments which I felt were redundant and unnecessary, but otherwise it was an enjoyable read. Cricket fanatics will enjoy more as there were a lot of facts and figures specially from the 80s and 90s of cricket era.

It's been a while I read any biographies. This was something I took as a change of genre and well I can tell you that it was worth reading. It was something nostalgic, something I've seen (like playing cricket in the scotching sun). The author tells about himself (obviously) through cricket. The whole Journey makes you hang in there and the best part was the details, (like the playing XI, and the match details of International matches) makes it very interesting. It makes you pursue more into the genre of biographies. It does a fine job in portraying the childhood dream of everyone who wants to be a cricketer. Cricket, friendship, hard work, situations, circumstances everything is placed very beautifully.

This plot has teenagers (Triple Sundae gang) who were best friend to each other since childhood. Book is all about how the passion for their game cricket changed their life aspects. As this book is fast paced , to attract the readers it started with flow of a match.Author has also gave us his memory about journey of his Cricket in life , they way they played cricket in "Gully" , "Street".Overall a good catch over many struggling cricketers to be honest. As a reader I felt many a times the story line got slow but after every slow down I could see author matching up the pace which according to me was incredible.The story is not about failed cricketer but a beautiful way to show struggle of every cricketer . A warm, endearing book with relatable characters. I love cricket so I enjoyed it even more. But you don't have to be a cricket fan to identify with the trio described so beautifully by T. Sathish. Cricket is a wonderful game so is this book. With the Cricket World Cup starting today you must go for Life In The Sunshine.

I've got smile on my face now. I mean literally I just fell in love with this write. Author Satish is absolutely a damn fan of 🏏. He marvelously crafted bio to make known and relatable without boring us.
Story plot:: As bio started, I kept reading easily untill Sat childhood initiated. Then pace goes onnnnnn....Sat going to new place , new colony and hardest part for kids to make friendship, Cricketerian Making religion, College move,hostel life, Counting book of trib, Sam busy life of playing state levels, love , Friendship,Lost aim,Lived aim, accomplishing to be a best palyer by Sam and last "Speech".
However, the story begins with the trio. Yes, I really really appreciate that author so fortunate that he got bestest friend forever who never departed untill they grow up. I love the trio treat showed in story. Sat, Trib and Sam, despite the real name, I loved there crop name. Trio humorous making, fun at each other specially the prank that they made each other for Sat (Book finding guide) thrown prank by Sat on Sam for Fake foreign player selection call. 😁😁😁👏😂😂😂

Meanwhile, the concept based on bio (Cricket Passion) can seen easily. As here trio bond got better and better with Sat plan and practice to be a Indian player. 3/4th of the stroy were extremely filled with information of cricket as well as the sat demonstration skills🏏 and the climax is just perfectly landed on the ground.

BOOK REVIEW: Life In The Sunshine by T Sathish
As a kid I spent my weekends and winter holidays, in my hometown in Darjeeling, playing cricket, watching cricket, collecting cricket memorabilia. Needlessly to say I was a massive cricket buff and even today cricket is one sport I religiously follow, like majority of the people in this nation. As an ardent worshipper of that sport during my teenage years, I just couldn’t miss this book. It brought back a wave of childhood memories. I walked down the nostalgia lane as I flipped through each page of the book.
Beauty lies in simplicity, and Life in the sunshine is a simple book. It talks about cricket – not just as a sport but as a lifestyle, a sense of belonging for someone, someone’s passion and an experience on its own. Sathish, our protagonist and the author, is an aspiring cricketer who hones his passion by watching cricket and playing cricket and dreams of joining taking it up professionally someday. The book starts off on a present date and the reader travels back in time to Sathish’s childhood experiences and memories as the narration progresses.
The book beautifully encapsulates the meaning of friendship, passion, struggle, and paints a perfect picture in the reader’s mind. Sathish’s relationship with his friends Trib and Sam speaks volume about the necessity of having a support system in one’s life. Though the book is inclined towards being technical and will be much appreciated by a cricket aficionado, it is relevant and relatable. Barring some instances where the narration got monotonous and repetitive, the story has been beautifully portrayed. A strong 3 stars for me and thanks to the author for sharing his work.

India. Cricket. 90s kid. Nostalgia.
As is mentioned in the title, it's all about cricket and cricket crazed youngsters and adults alike!
However the book focuses on events that actually happened from the late 1980s to the 1990s cricket regarding the matches played between Pakistan, India and some other teams like West Indies or Sri Lanka and some major matches played in history like the World Cup, or the World Champions.
The story focusses on three youth as the main characters.
Their passion about the sport is undying and ever increasing day by day.
I can truly feel that this book was written by a true blue cricket fan.
As I am one too(fortunately when Sachin Tendulkar played cricket), I can totally relate to the events described in every chapter.
The author did the research well and has written it in such a way that the chapters are humorous, insightful and full of facts.
However, the romance towards the end of the book seem a bit out of place and forced upon the characters.
I cannot help feeling monotous in between while reading.
I would have loved it better if the chapters towards the end were written a bit different than the first half of the book.
It was a fun , entertaining read.
I really appreciate the genuine efforts of the author.

"Life is the Sunshine", as the name suggests, is an autobiography of an unknown cricketer. It is the story of Sat, Trib and Sam who are also known as the Triple Sundae Gang and cricket plays a huge role in that story. As kids, the three friends spend their time awake either watching or discussing cricket. Like countless other kids in the country they literally live and breathe their favourite sport and dream of making a career out of it. But needless to say that is not an easy career choice and they face hurdles in their journey but throughout it all, one thing remains constant in their lives- Cricket.
If you are an Indian, it is not difficult for you to imagine what the premise of this book might look like. We have all at some point or other of our lives seen and been part of the craze that surrounds cricket in this nation. As truly remarked by many, cricket has become more of a religion in this country than a sport. Consider this book to be a perfect tribute to that religion. The way the author passionately talks about the sport is bound to melt your heart.
The minute details of the matches is something you can't help but appreciate. It is really endearing to see how the lives and journey of the cricketers merge with that of these three young boys as they worship their heroes and dream of following their footsteps. The character of the boy Abdul, who is a supporter of the Pakistani cricket team, adds to the humour of the narrative but it also left me wondering why he supported a team of another nation and not his own. The simple and honest approach of the story appealed to me. However, I wish there were more details about the lives of the characters outside the cricket world; probably would have made the book a bit more interesting and diverse. Overall this was a short and fast paced book that will definitely make you smile.
Now, personally, I have always been more of a mere passive spectator of the game, but my father is an ardent follower and he actually has diaries and journals filled with scores, analysis and statistics of different matches. He even has all the statistics by heart till date. Naturally while reading the book, I kept thinking about him. Moreover, in the initial chapters the book throws light on the matches which I have not watched but only heard about, so it was an added bonus to read about the highlights of those matches in such great detail. If you are someone who spent their childhood (and adult life) watching cricket, you have to pick this one up for you'll relate to the story a lot. But even if you are not that big of a fan of the game, you will enjoy reading it nonetheless.

Cricket is a serious matter in the Indian subcontinent with the reverence accorded to the game being akin to a religion and the players assuming the status of Demi Gods in the eyes of their followers. To realize the truth of the above statement you just need to observe the frenzy that accompanies any major cricketing event, more so if it is a India Pakistan match. In which case loses lead to descending of a pall of gloom on the entire country for days at a stretch. So it is hardly surprising that every year thousands of hopefuls try to get picked for the national squad. But then only a few handpicked diamonds make it to the final honour. In a country of 100 crore population this means facing insane competition. Still it does little to dim the spirit of the hopefuls such is the charm and lure of the game. If anything else it seems to motivate people all the more.
T. Satish transcends this passion for cricket of the Indian milieu into a beautiful coming of age story of three boys .Sam, Trib and Sat are three friends who live in the same housing colony in Chennai. Right from an early childhood, the game of cricket fascinates them. All they want to do is to play for India when they grow up. Their growing years are deeply influenced by the game and many of the events of their childhood are intertwined with the major matches played by India around this time. Many of the major wins or loses of India from the early eighties to the mid- nineties have been described in such detail that you get to relive those moments along with the boys, cherishing over the wins and feeling heart broken over the loses. The author has painstakingly included complete team details of the matches he has covered. I particularly enjoyed his description of the India - Pakistan matches in Sharjah and its effect on the general populace. The touch of humour interjected by the author has ensured that the reading is never dry.
As the story progresses we get to witness the evolution of Indian cricket from the 80's to the mid- nineties along with the struggles of Sam, Trib and Sat as they earnestly chase their dreams. The characters are very well etched and real. We all have met a Sam, Trib
or Sat at some point of our lives. People who live by and breathe cricket.
As in cricket and in life there are ups and downs for Sam, Trib and Sat. But true to the spirit of the game they have sworn allegiance to, they handle the bouncers, the Yorkers, the inswingers, the outswingers and the reverse swings thrown by life with grace and élan and still manage to score a sixer at times.

Some of them are like " I DONT LIKE CRICKET " but after the match of own country there is always a curiosity just to know who won after all!! Thats the cricket. Its a pure emotion.
After reading the book title its clearly known that the book is about a cricketer named satish who is unknown to us always wanted to be a renowned cricketer. Being an Indian , he has to come over many wounds to make his dream alive. He has friends sam, trib and all who are also from this platform. They always talk about this game and feel the bliss of life. There are many scenes that pointed clearly the worldcup. The little boy satish wanted to play for his country like ravi sastri and win a audi like on 1983 worldcup.
What is waiting for satish?
Can he overcome all the situations which will come before his path to be a cricketer?
What about his dreams?

●what i understand, it was the time of cricket, when sachin was an era. Many renowned matches are described here. I wasnt aware about it much. Its a pure serenity for cricket lovers.
●The author has a brilliant knowledge about all matches of CRICKET obviously. I must appreciate how he pointed every single details of this book. That makes the book really shiny. The writing style is really eye catching and doesnt make me bore any single time.

This is a fast-paced, biographical adaptation of the lives of Sampath, Sathish, and Tribhuvan (referred in the book as Sam, Sat and Trib, respectively). It takes you on a parade down the memory lane in the life of our protagonist and narrator, Sathish, an ardent cricket fan and his friends, right since their school days. That said, Life in the Sunshine is a book for all cricket lovers; irrespective of region or tongue.
It all begins with a heartbreak when an unexpected incident in International cricket changed their perspective of things which was almost a blessing in disguise because that's when it hit them that they had to play professional cricket, for their school teams, and perhaps, for the nation.
What happens almost instantly is them teaming up with others kids and following in the direction of this dream they harbor. Through its pages, Life in the Sunshine is more of Sathish's journey and the trials he experiences on the path of becoming a professional cricketer, than the others. Most of the major cricket matches that the Indian team played between the period 1983 to 1992 have been brought to light interspersed between chapters along with the match highlights. This was a fantastic idea as most fans would be able to relate to it instantly.
One will realise that despite the content being heavily doused with cricketish jargons and terminologies, the conversations and dialogues are humor-induced that makes the reading tad lighter even if you may not totally grasp the technicalities of the sport amply described throughout. The trio traverses through their initial years of life, growing into matured human beings, building a foundation for life from lessons cricket taught them, and not letting setbacks define them, which, IMO, is a mighty important message for the TG.
The narrator of the book goes on to become a spokesperson and imparts wisdom from his cricket years to the juniors ; most of which is something you may have already read or heard before, but the way he has linked it all to contextual instances is commendable. It is a biography which does not fill in its shoes; at least not literally, given the simpler tone of narration and easy-peasy dialogue-writing, and that was mighty relieving because non-fiction tends to spark off my interest sooner than I'd want it to.
All in all, it is a quick read for someone with an understanding of cricket nuances. Even otherwise, it is a simple book to enjoy and relive the rampant cricket fandom.

A good nostalgic read
Being born and brought up in India where cricket is another religion and cricketers are considered as Gods for the majority of its citizen, this book became one of the most anticipated read of this month.
This book written as an autobiography is a perfect example of any nostalgic read. The smile that comes in its starting pages continues to be there although the book only with a few exceptions. Being a cricket lover myself, it was delightful to know what a budding cricketer goes through and how it is to be in his shoe.
The three young boys Sat, Sam and Trib successfully takes us down the memory lanes. The characters are so lively, it feels as if they are boys next door. The book is beautifully conceptualized and written in a very lucid way. Also if you belong to the 80s or 90s, the fact mentioned can be easily related.
The cover looks beautiful as it again let's you time travel to your childhood days but I feel the sub title could have been better.
Overall, it is a good nostalgic read.

The story revolves around 3 friends. Sat, sam and trib (sundae gang) are teenagers and they love cricket. They spend their days watching and playing cricket. They all have a dream to make cricket as their future. But fate have its own willings when on 18th April 1986, Javed mandad hits chetan sharma for a six in sharjah and leaves their cricket viewing life in tatters, the after effects of this fateful years haunt them to tears. Further, sat fails to graduate from school level cricket to state level cricket and is completely heartbroken by the loss of his dreams. Will they ever recover from the 18th april incident?

The mind of the human beings is the storehouse of immense power. It not only creates desires, it is also instrumental in fulfilling those. It is in this light that the adage “Where there is will, there is a way” has to be seen. But often people have doubts about the capacity of this wonderful power house to deliver. The reason being that they find many of their desires unfulfilled.
