A girl sent to kill the one she is dreaming of Her target? A Kindred warrior with a beast inside Can Mia complete her mission? Or is Trey Hitting the Target when he aims for her heart?
Ormyu Five is the world divided in two To the north, a police state ruled by the heavy hand of The EYE, which spies on its people constantly and keeps iron control over their lives.
To the South lies Bountiful, a country of free thinkers bustling with trade and blessed with balmy weather. But those from the Northern Block never get to experience its temperate climate for the two halves of Ormyu Five are divided by an impenetrable wall of blue energy called the Great Barrier.
Mia lives in the North and can’t remember a time when she wasn’t looking over her shoulder. Everyone spies on everyone else and reports to The Eye. It is a land of paranoia—a place of constant fear. Imagine her surprise and dismay when she recognizes her new target—a huge male with a mane of golden brown hair and pale piercing eyes—as the one she has been dreaming of for months.
Treygar is a rare Lei’on Kindred which means he keeps a hungry beast locked within himself. He came to Ormyu Five with his people, looking for a new genetic trade on the strangely divided planet. He wants to go and find the mysterious, curvy little female but before he can, he runs into her at the transport station.
Mia is scared to death of the huge Kindred warrior. She’s been dreaming of him for months but she assumed It was just that—a dream. Even worse, he is the target she had been sent to the South to track…and possibly to kill. Can she keep herself from falling for Trey and complete her mission? Or is the big Kindred aiming for her heart, Hitting the Target?
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Once again EA has created a new planet with one continent split into two countries: one good, democratic and sexually liberated, the other an evil commie-pastiche that is oppressive, misogynistic and spying on its subjects through the leading Stasi Police, the EYE. There's a whole ass laser blaster wall between the two countries to keep the poor oppressed commies in and the good television and freedom OUT!
It's pretty much based on East/West Germany with weird Aryan Nazi ideals in the evil big brother state called the People's Republic of Ormyu. The hell-place also has blatant parallels with North Korea (the death camps & stuff). It's not subtle. Also I thought about it and then I thought about it some more and I decided that it's not cute.
Ever heard of "write what you know"? Well, if you didn't grow up with the Stasi breathing down your neck, maybe don't write about the traumatic experience, guilt and fear that comes from being the unwilling spy dog for evil (and rapist, obviously) spy master superiors.
In. Your. Fun. Alien. Rom. Com!
There is a time and place to criticize oppressive regimes by dissecting how being a forced collaborator feels. It is not in your fluffy sci-fi porn series. Unless your a politically educated, subtle writer. Just don't do it!
Okay, so it wasn't THE WORST or anything like that. But it was extremely ham-handed and when I got to the point where the hero's tongue transformed into a huge, dildo-shaped STRAW to slurp up the heroine's "love juices", I had already run out of WTFs for the day.
Which is a crying shame because the tongue-dildo-straw is definitely a disturbing picture that should stand on its own.
Obviously this disaster does not deter me. I will probably be buying the next box sets in the both series and soon.

Are you a new reader considering this author?
I can help.
Both Evangeline Anderson's Brides of the Kindred main series and her stand-alone book series "Kindred Tales" are epically long. Picking where to start (or even if) can be difficult.
In general, if you are a fan of Ruby Dixon and you enjoy mostly fluffy, often low-angst and high heat romance with very humanoid aliens who are just bigger and nicer, then these are your books.
It's pure escapism with one major strength that I happen to enjoy: EA invents really cool worlds, pets, cultural norms, food stuffs etc. Of course, her Kindred aliens are barely alien. Sure, they sometimes come with fangs, a weird appendage or two or shifter qualities, but they rarely qualify as "strange".
One major thing that may put off readers is that EA does tend to cock-block her couples until the bitter end, letting them fumble around sedcond base but denying them the dramatic, life-saving "bonding sex". The trope "saved by the magic hoo-ha" is unfortunately very common in many of her books and it GRATES. If you can't stomach couples blue-balling themselves for stupid reasons, these books are mostly not for you. Maybe I will make a list of the books that don't have this trope in it, so you can pick and choose.
Anyway. It is my life-long ambition to read all these books. Don't ask me why. Many, many times they are stupid and grating and I hate everything. BUT. Once in a while, the stars align with EA's vision. She createsy the ultimate campy romcom experience. Everything is great. The characters are vibrant and fun, the world-building is crazy and over the top and the shenanigans of culture shock make me laugh out loud while reading.
Those book-gems are slightly rare, but I read fast, so no trouble.
I think this might actually be a winner, but I'll keep reading first.

I thought it was an interesting concept of a 'police state' that Mia was forced to live in. The author really puts a perspective on the hardships other people may have to live in and endure to survive. It reminded me of the movie V for Vendetta.
I thought this line was particularly interesting: "Sylvan shook his head. “A wall never solves anything. It is a foolish, simplistic solution to a complex problem. Whenever you see a leader seeking to divide people rather than unite them, you can be certain he is either a dictator, a fear-monger, or a fool.”"
I bought this one for my birthday, which is tomorrow. I'm glad I checked out Evangeline's store because it was $2 cheaper on her store than on Amazon.
Ormyu Five, where our story takes place, reminded me of North & South Korea. The north of the continent is ruled by the EYE, which spies over its people constantly. Unfortunately, Mia has been recruited as an informant. She's sent to the south of the continent, to the free land of Bountiful, to spy on Trey, a Kindred leader who's recently come with his people to make a genetic trade (searching for brides).
Trey is a new kind of Kindred--Lei'on--meaning he has a lion-like beast inside of him.
In the beginning, I was excited because these two seemed to be talking more about their past than Evangeline's typical heroes & heroines, but I still would have liked more scenes where I could have seen them falling in love. Them falling in love seemed to be more attributed to them being fated mates so they had been Dream Sharing.
Even though the setup was interesting, it was definitely not my favorite Kindred book by Evangeline Anderson. That being said, I'm sure I'll be reading another Kindred book before long.
Hitting the Target : A Kindred Tales Novel. (Brides of the Kindred) - Evangeline Anderson
An interesting new world where a “wall” divides two different societies. Think 1984/Brave New World and throw in some of today’s political issues and throw in an intriguing plot and a sexy Alpha Kindred Doctor Shifter (Trey).
Living in fear on the totalitarian side of the planet(under the surveillance of The Eye), Mia hides behind her ordinary appearance as she is not the norm of what is considered desirable (Tall, skinny, blond modelesque). Living with her grandmother ever since her parents were taken away by the government she does her best to take care of the two of them in this hellish existence. Escape is near impossible and 99% of the time results in death. Mia is recruited by by The Commandant to spy and seduce the Shifter Kindred on the South side of the wall (think free, warm and progressive) who may have new technology they want to steal. They blackmail her by threatening to harm her grandmother. Mia is a BBW who works as an assistant at the care center. I’m was disappointed that once again there is a virgin heroine, it’s a tiring premise for an adult book and it would have enhanced her story to make her experienced in the horrors of her society. I also think it would have been awesome for Mia and Trey (The Kindred) to find her parents in the end and reunite the family. Trey is one of the Shifter Kindred that is on this new world for genetic trading (wouldn’t mind some more stories with his species of Kindred). He is a hot doctor who has drawn the attention of many a female at the care center but feels no attraction until Mia is brought into his life. Turns out the two have been dream sharing. The author then takes us on their exciting adventure of political intrigue, suspense, sensual tension building into steamy erotic scenes. A very entertaining page turning addition to the Kindred Novels, I would recommend it to any fans of Evangeline Anderson’s amazing sci-fi stories. The peak into the next book involving the “Volt” Kindred looks awesome!
A self-professed xenophile, I have to admit that Evangeline’s Kindred Tales are my guilty pleasure. As soon as a new one comes out, I actually BUY it (despite the plethora of freebies to be had over the internet) and read it immediately in one sitting! This latest story does not disappoint. In an all-too Trumpian Land of fear mongering, male superiority and walls, our eventual heroine Mia is plucked from sad obscurity to play the role of Mata Hari across the southern border of the Wall, where Life is freer, warmer and more colorful. Her target is the Kindred Trey, who harbors an inner leonine beast. Naturally, they have been dream sharing, and their rocky road to Goddess-assisted Love is beset by both totalitarian government interference and personal insecurities. Mia is as appealing as she is vulnerable, and Trey and his beast are fiercely protective and heroic. There is a backdrop of the familiar Kindred superstructure and characters. The provocative and graphic erotic scenes are believable and well written and, believe it or don’t, Love conquers ALL! A great escape from Reality...
2.75 Stars. ( Black Humanoid Female/ White Lei’on Kindred). Trey is a Kindred warrior with a lion inside; i e, a lion shifter, he is also a doctor and he has been dream sharing with Mia, his potential mate; but, she lives north of Ormyu Five divide. Ormyu Five is a planet of humanoid beings with a huge electrified heavily guarded wall dividing the plant in half, the southern half where Trey lives is open, with individual freedoms and a democratic form of governance; contrary to the northern half where Mia lives, with no freedoms an oppressive Autocratic form of government with the Eye at the helm. Mia, a dark skinned, heavy-set virgin, is desirable by northern standards; in spite of being considered inferior to the lighted skinned blonds females, she is sent to seduce and spy on and ultimately kill Trey. A story with a political statement. Although is Mia is the timid fearful reluctant virgin, having Trey refer to her as “little one”, an endearment for totters, is disconcerting. I didn’t like the story.
I never think that I can be surprised when it comes to alien romance but in this case, I am. We're not dealing with a typical earth human, we're on a different planet that has humans in it but they've never heard of the planet earth. So clearly a dystopian type of era. TRIGGERS: sexual assault. The planet is Ormyu Five and it's currently divided by North and South. The North is a strict government ruled area who believes that only certain types of females are perfect for precession, blonde, blue eyes and thin figure. While Mia has the blue eyes, according to her people, not the body. As I was reading this book, I can honestly say that was NOT a bad thing at all. Mia is being blackmailed into doing things the commandant wants her to do and that's what the male lead comes into the picture, Treygar is a Kindred alien, specifically a Lei'on. He has a beast inside him as his second half. The two have a sort of hectic meet after dream sharing. Treygar knows she's meant for him but he doesn't know that she's a spy. I loved this story… There was so much new meat to chew on in the area of alien romance. The story was so original and I couldn't get enough. I wished that this was the first book of the series but it just happened to be the first I found in Scrib'd. Great character buildup, great world building and the sex was hot. I can't wait for the next book.
I really enjoyed the story. Each book I read of this author I see so much creativity.
Treygar was a very cool type of Kindred. He was a Lei’on Kindred. I love the direction the author took with this character.
The author did a great job giving a lot of detail when it came to Mia. I think it was very important because to understand Mia you need to understand how she was forced to live. It also helps you understand how much a strong woman she really was.
I love how protective Trey was of Mia but we see that when it comes to Kindred. He was perfect for her and gave her the right amount of space.
I did cry when reading this book. I feel the author really reach in my soul and stirred up my emotions. Sorry will not tell you about what made me cry because it would give to much a way. but I will tell you I did enjoy this book and hope to see of this more of this type of kindred.
Evangeline has a way with words that will draw you into hernstories and leave you on begging for more. The Kindred Brides series has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Each story is different and the characters are personable, interesting, and those Kindred are so dreamy! This story is no different. Trey’s a new character to the series, as well as a new type of Kindred. He and his beast are definitely in my top 5 favorites so far. The storyline keeps you on your toes, waiting for the next shoe to drop and wondering what the characters reactions will be in different circumstances. I cannot wait to read the next story, and any others Evangeline comes out with next! I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
While I do keep harping on how much this series stays the same, in every single book, the formula and characters are exactly the same. It's only the plot that changes. That's why I usually rate these only 3 stars. It's fun, but not a series I'd recommend.
To people who have a cow about 'politics', just wow. The 'politics' in this book is an alien dictactorship. Yes, there's a wall. Yes, the author may have gotten the idea from US politics, but she might NOT have. It's an alien world, stop trying to see the author discussing 'politics' when no politics exist. It's fiction. It's even science fiction. Every author on the planet gets ideas for books from the news, tv, movies, or coffee shops or bars. Smh.
Hitting the Target by author Evangeline Anderson is part of the Kindred Tales series. I love the Kindred. They are sexy, kind, and loyal. Not to mention a little dangerous too.
Mia comes from the north on her world. She is used to being ruled with an iron fist and intimidation. She cannot remember a time she was not looking over her shoulder.
Treygar he is a rare Lei’on Kindred. Has to keep his inner hungry beast at bay. He is on the planet to do genetic trade.
He never expects to find Mia or to fall for her.
This is a beautiful story of trust of and faith. I personally loved the cuddly beast. This story has all the feels in it. I loved it and want more from this series in the future.
The dystopian world that Ms. Anderson has crafted was dark and, sadly, believable, particularly the descriptions of the great barrier. This enormous electrical “wall” divides the world and, as with East and West Germany, each side has a leadership that are opposite in every way. Enter in Trey, a surgeon and Lei’on Kindred and Mia, a prisoner of the police state which is the North. Their relationship is lovely but my favourite aspect of it is the noble beast who is Trey’s “better” half. I LOVED him. Another great Kindred story.

Phew! It feels like this series has been going on since FOREVER , but I will never get tired of it. I have to admit this series is a little formulaic at times but Hitting the Target is quite different from the past few books I have read. I loved the heroine, I loved the Hero, his beast and their interaction. They kind of remind me of Venom and Eddie Brock's relationship. The dynamic of it--I absolutely loved it. Not going to lie, I shed a few tears and smiled like a lunatic by the time I finished the book. It was so good.
I love meeting all these new types of Kindred. Now we get one that can shift into a beast that sounds a lot like a lion. But this one doesn’t have much to do with Earth but another planet. A planet that is split by a wall where one half is free and the other is ruled by an iron hand by a council. The story has spies, threats of death and torture, poison, and even worse evils. But thankfully the Kindred and the goddess will change that. Expect some interesting and sometimes fun twists. And always a HEA for our hero and heroine.
I love the Brides of the Kindred and find that the Kindred Tales are a hit or miss or me. This one is pretty good. A girl in a totalitarian district is forced to spy or her grandmother will pay the price. She is forced to another country to spy on the aliens that have come to her planet. As usual the author builds a fantastic new world and sets our H and h on a collision course. I really liked this story but the best part is the setup for the next Brides of the Kindred story featuring the Volt Kindred we met several books ago - it looks awesome.
Mia is recruited as a spy but it isn't willingly. Mia is sent beyond the wall to find out information for an awful man. She's supposed to get close to a Kindred and spy on him. However, when they meet she realizes that they're mates. Trey is so gentle and patient with Mia, I absolutely loved him and felt so bad that Mia was being blackmailed into deceiving him. This was another fantastic Kindred story and I anxiously wait to see what Evangeline Anderson comes up with next.

Loved this as I have loved all the other Kindred books I have read! This one has Mia being sent by her repressive state to seduce Trey and find out his secrets! She is an unwilling spy for the state as they threaten her beloved grandmother and Trey is a Lei'on Kindred with a lion like beast he shisfts into! Both are healers and this is how she intends to get to know him but circumstances change that drastically on her arrival. Still, this is a fabulous read and I thoroughly enjoyed it! All in all the series is great and I recommend it highly!!
4.5 stars.. Again, another great heroine! I hope this means, the heroines will be getting better, stronger and more giving😉
It would have been 5 stars if Trey didnt all of sudden become so stubburn that he hadn't even listened to his own beast. Who, in my opinion, was better than male than Trey. 🤷♀️ So, i was extremely happy that Mia had given the big beast so much love!🤗🤗💜. I did enjoy how patient Trey was with Mia due to her innocence and showed her how to enjoy herself before they enjoyed each other. 💜

I enjoyed reading this book very much Evangeline. I enjoyed listening 🎧 to audiobook very much on the way to work. Some night 🌃 I kind of wish I could take a Kinder man and Tagan hom with me. I fell in love with the Tagan in the book 📚 towards the end of the book and the middle of the when he killed the dead body. I liked the revenge bit in the book 📚 very much and I kind of wanted to be in the book 📚 watching the fight has a spy in the woods. I loved the characters 💗 in the book very much. I kind of wanted to be in the book myself.

How would you like to live in a police state? Neighbors spying on neighbors. Co workers always watching and ready any so called wrong doings. Where you were told what to do, how to dress, and what to watch. The image a chance to go to a place where you are free, and meet the man you have been dream sharing with. But there a fly in the ointment. Good read, 👍
Mia meets Trey under less than truthful circumstances but the attraction is strong and amid the deceit a bond developed. Threats and danger causes Mia to make a fatal decision and leads to major misunderstandings. Will Trey get to Mia before things are irreversible? Loved the story and the page turning romance that evolves!

I absolutely love this series. This author's imagination and descriptions of each aspect of her stories are awesome. I automatically buy every book she writes because I know it will be another great story. In this book a naive young woman is sent across an electrified wall to spy on a Kindred Warrior, who unbeknownst to the the evil commandant of her country, happens to be the man she is dreaming about.
This was another good book in the Kindred series. Although I love all of Evangeline’s books, this one included, there was too many political undertones. Maybe the story wasn’t meant to be taken that way, but I could see (read) a lot of it throughout the whole story. It was just kinda annoying to me. Other than that, it was a great story with a lot of angst and romance.

Really good story about two different sides of the same world. One free and one ruled liked a dictatorship or worse actually. The people’s republic was the dictator side and controlled every aspect of life. The story line came from this foundation and was surprisingly very, very good. My favorite character was actually the beast. His personality was extremely cute to me.
I like the Kindred world and definitely recommend this novel.
Another phenomenal addition to the Brides of Kindred. As usual this series doesn't disappoint plenty of intrigue, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hooked from beginning to end so looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I never get tired of these Kindred Aliens. Set on a planet with one continent divided in half. Reminds me a country here on earth. Freedom for the South and a police state in the North. Action, drama, spying, kidnapping, imprisonment and of course romance. So much to keep me glued to my kindle. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this Kindred, his beast and the woman of his dreams.
And Evangeline Anderson never disappoints. I liked Trey and Mia's story and enjoyed the dynamics of her world, but I was slightly underwhelmed at the lack of adventure in this one. I normally enjoy Evangelin's adventurous and quick witted storylines. I enjoyed it, even though it got a bit weird at the end, I just felt that something was missing.
I love meeting new Kindred, and Trey was no exception. I also really like stories that happen on other worlds. This one reminded me of some sad situations on earth, but I'm glad the Kindred were able to help. Mia was such a brave character. This was a great story.
