DI Jack Dylan is back and boy does he have some harrowing cases to solve.

I really enjoyed catching back up with Dylan who is now living with the lovely Jen. Dawn, Dylans colleague, I loved in the first book as her and Dylan have some great banter going on. Due to her being pregnant she seems to take a bit more of a back seat in this book but it does tie in nicely with the storyline.

To be honest the crimes that need solving in Consequences are certainly not for the faint hearted. A woman burned to death has got to be pretty harrowing but what was worse is the case to do with the poor young boy who has died through neglect and physical abuse.

I actually have to applaud the authors as they haven't shied away from the atrocities that the police force have to face. Don't get me wrong it isn't the easiest of things to read and I literally could have sobbed for the poor little lad, but it reminded me how much we should value our officers as it certainly isn't a job that most of us could do, I for one certainly couldn't anyway.

Consequences is a hard hitting novel which I think due to the nature of the story some readers may find some parts upsetting. Other than that though this is a gripping read which had me racing towards the end as I wanted justice for the victims as much as Dylan and his team.

I have to say what a great crime series this is turning out to be and I can't wait to read the next book.

Many thanks to the authors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I just completed "Consequences" and I was blown away by the storyline. The characters are exceptionally well defined; the dramatic, genuine police situations and dialogue are superb and I enjoyed the continuity of tying in the current book with "Deadly Focus.” I loved their first book, yet this one is 100 times better.T he Bridgestocks have grown tremendously as professional writers in this very brief period. I am amazed and delighted by their professional progress. As a former cop, let me advise you of your rights…oops, I mean let me advise you to read this page turner. It is a crime story gem and you will absolutely love it!

This is a brilliant sequel to Deadly Focus. I love DI Jack Dylan and his lovely partner, Jen.

This is a little more slick than the first book but is equally as addictive.

I was extremely upset at some of the content but I knew my hero, Jack Dylan, would seek revenge (vague, so as not to spoil the terrific plot) and justice would be served.

I didn't like Patrick at times as he just didn't fit in with a brilliant team. Love Dawn and Vicky.

Really enjoyed this and couldn't put it down. Time for number 3 now!

Happy reading :-)

Even better than Deadly Focus, if that's possible. Experience has brought that certain assurance to the writing, which is compelling. This story has a rich mix of knowledge, emotions and characterisation, which makes for a truly enthralling reading experience.

Second books are always said to not quite live up to the debut. Boy, that doesn't apply in this case! First class and a well-deserved five stars.

Well done, R C Bridgestock. Please hurry up with the next one.

Loved this book. After reading the debut book I couldn't wait for the next, and it did not disappoint. Only that I now have to wait to read the next in the series. It opened my eyes to a world I never think of and I felt like I knew the people in the story. Excellently written and very gripping. Can't wait for the next one.

Another rare 5* read for me - the subjects in this aren’t the easiest to read but the sensitivity and authenticity that shine through make this novel deeply compelling. The writing is excellent and the plots are intriguing and you can see how the effects snowball into each other. The bridgestocks have a real writing talent and I can’t wait to read more

Really liked this book! Had never read his work until my husband bought me Deadly Focus and Consequences. Really likes them both. Keeps your attention and works in a tender side to the drama. I have a Nook and I can only find the next book (White Lillie’s) on kindle. Does anyone know where I might find this next book?

I didn’t love it but it was a good, quick read. Crimes involving the blackmail money were interesting and clever but the perpetrators were easily disposed of. Child case was sad. Amazing how stupid some “adults” are.

This is the second book I’ve read in the series. I enjoyed the book more than the first one I read . The story, at times is a very hard and emotional read. The story knitted together nicely. On to book number 3

Book two in the series, another book I'd read one bought 2 but hadn't gone back to glad I did. A really good police procedural, love Jack Dylan and the newly formed team. A burned out car and dead woman, A brutal abuse of a child (beware if this triggers you) will keep the team hopping.

From the authors of ‘Deadly Focus’ comes the second book in the ‘D.I. Jack Dylan’ series, although Consequences could be read as a standalone it’s well worth reading Deadly Focus first just because it’s such a good book and you will also get a feel for the characters. Consequences is a very gritty and compelling read, but a word of warning this book isn’t for the faint hearted. I found the descriptions regarding the murdered child made for an uncomfortable and heartbreaking read, but in the authors defence you only have to watch the television or pick up a newspaper to see these things really do happen, so unfortunately it makes for a very credible read.

What I particularly like about this series is the fact the authors focus on the very people who deal with these sorts of crimes on a daily basis, exploring the demands of the job and the effect it has on their working and personal life, so much so it feels like you are reading about a real life team. DI Jack Dylan is a rather unusual protagonist for a DI, he’s just your “average Joe”, hard working, clean cut and highly respected by his team, he’s not a man with a chip on his shoulder, fool hardy, a womaniser or a heavy drinker (unlike a lot of the DI’s in novels) which makes a refreshing change if I’m honest. It’s clear to see that the RC Bridgestock has experience of the police/legal profession as the expertise shows in their writing.

As the team investigate two separate murders this hard hitting police procedure is shrouded in tension, it’s gritty realism adds to an engaging read that kept me reading late into the night. Unusually you know early on who committed the crimes, which can been a huge risk, as I always find part of the suspense of crime books is second guessing the killer, but the authors manage to maintain the suspense through the investigation.

Consequences explores the steps Jack Dylan and his team must take to bring both investigations to a satisfying conclusion, as well as the consequences people must face when they make the wrong decisions. This is a brilliant sequel to Deadly Focus, the characters are exceptionally well defined, the dramatic and genuine police situations are spot on and make for a gripping read. I wouldn’t hesitate to read the rest of the series, and I would highly recommend this series to fans of police procedures.

This is the second book in the D.I. Jack Dylan series and it picks up a few months after the first, Deadly Focus. Jack and Jen are still a couple but they aren't out as a couple just yet, they are keeping it quiet as they know what it's like in a police station. Just a hint of a rumour and it will be around the station in no time.

This time Dylan has his hands full with the murder of a young woman in a park alongside her burnt out car, half a million pounds missing from her bank account, a dead child, a young lad who keeps threatening to commit suicide by jumping, an old man struck by a hit and run that's looking to be one of his detectives and a missing detective too.

In the case of the young woman, her husband would be the first to be questioned but as he is in prison he can certainly be ruled out as the culprit but not of organising it.

The dead child strikes a chord with Dylan and he just can't seem to let it go and soon has three people charged and investigated, one of which is the jumper.

The old man was struck in a pub car park by his missing detective and it would seem as though the detective knew the dead woman too.

With so many cases to juggle, he really does need the missing detective as one of his main female detectives is pregnant.

Whilst investigating all of these cases, Jen gets pulled in too as she was a victim of a road rage driver near the scene where the young woman was murdered. She was able to place the criminal there at the right time.

In this book we get to see more of Jack and Jen's relationship, we see how Jen copes with Jack when he's on a case and how he gets blinkers on for anything other than the caseload. Despite that, they are a loving couple and seem to be stronger together than apart. Their chemistry is very real and I found myself getting angry at Jack for his blinkers treatment of Jen.

We also get a small snippet of a follow-up on the previous book and find out a little bit about what is happening with the criminal from that case and how the case is progressing.

All in all, this is another cracking book with a great story-line, wonderful characters, correct police procedures being shown and a growth in the authors style of writing. On to the next.

Consequences is a terrific title choice. In the second novel of this fledgling series, Detective Inspector Jack Dylan makes the choice to save a “jumper,” never giving a thought to the consequences of that choice. A blackmailed woman turns to a flawed policeman for help, the consequences of that choice leading to betrayal and a creepy death. There’s no mystery this time: RC Bridgestock’s latest Jack Dylan novel reveals all the players at the outset. This choice is risky, as it kills or greatly subdues the element of suspense. However, the same choice strongly focuses our attention on the police work (procedure) that follows. The entire book is dedicated to piecing together the puzzle we already have before us, and it allows us to watch the inner workings of a police force as very few books ever do. Brilliant!

Ok so perhaps I was a bit harsh with my review of the first DI Dylan book. Jack and Jen are starting to grow on me, but I'm still a bit frustrated with the "Yorkshire"-isms. In my mind, when they are speaking I know they have Yorkshire accents. So why every now and then to we get an "'ave" part way through a speak which also has "had".
Sorry I'm being picky! And the font still drives me crazy! :)
Hasn't stopped me borrowing book 3 from the library!!

This is a weirdly uneven book. The story line is fairly strong, and I like the unexpected insights into the bureaucracy of policing obviously derived from long-lived personal experience that hardly any other author provides. But. One, I can't stand the fawning constant references to "the Isle of Wight" as if it were Arcadia. Two, the(ir) command of strong verbs, punctuation, plurals versus possessives, and above all lie and lay is utterly hopeless. Do invest in a competent copy editor.

This book was ok but I thought the final resolution to the various crimes was too neat. Also this book (I read the kindle edition) has what I believe are a number of odd sentences. Not typos, but missing words or with added words that don't make sense. I know that British English and American English are slightly different, but this isn't something I usually encounter.
