Witch of the Wild West #2

Werewolves and Wranglers

Rate this book
It’s the sheriff’s job to protect the town. The town, however, doesn’t intend to make it easy for her.

It was a normal day when Tobias arrived back to Redstone, paperwork and petty disputes between the various residents of town, until it wasn’t because humans were trying to attack the werewolf pack. Adalyn finds herself in the middle of a range war, and her duty as sheriff to protect Redstone becomes very literal as silver bullets start flying. She needs to make a mark and establish her authority, or the werewolves will never let her help.

It’s not the only war she finds herself in, either. She’s in the middle of the cross fire between two factions she never thought would go to battle. Her oldest friends and her new lovers. Tensions rise and tempers snap as each man tries to defend what he thinks is his while Adalyn tries to broker peace in an attempt to stay on task and do her job. They keep looking at her to declare a winner. There’s only one problem.

She can’t.
Adalyn won’t be won. She won’t be fought for and claimed.
And if that means she has to give them all up, she will.

Witch of the Wild West is a steamy RH paranormal romance series set in the Wild West! From hellhounds to warlocks, and everything in between, jump into Adalyn’s wild world and join her in following her wild heart. Expect fun adventures, hot scenes, and a feisty female lead who won’t let anyone tell her what to do and won’t choose between the men she falls in love with. It’s all or nothing in the Wild West!

Kristen Banet has a Diet Coke problem and smokes too much. She curses like a sailor (though, she used to be one, so she uses that as an excuse) and finds that many people don’t know how to handle that. She loves to read, and before finally sitting to try her hand at writing, she had your normal kind of work history. From tattoo parlors, to the U.S. Navy, and freelance illustration, she’s stumbled through her adult years and somehow, is still kicking.
She loves to read books that make people cry. She likes to write books that make people cry (and she wants to hear about it). She’s a firm believer that nothing and no one in this world is perfect, and she enjoys exploring those imperfections—trying to make the characters seem real on the page and not just in her head.
She might just be crazy, though. Her characters think so, but this can’t be confirmed.

4.5.

It took me a while, but I've definitely gone from like to full on love for this series. I think because The Redemption Saga is probably my favourite RH and this is so different, it took me a while to get into it, but the last third if this book was so awesome and the set up for book 3 seems to be even better.

This book has the background plot of a group of humans getting into a land war with the werewolf pack. That in itself isn't massively interesting, but the dealing of it by our main characters is what the focus of the book is on.

In many ways this installment was about progressing the relationships and how it's all going to work, and while this is initially frustrating (but then it was never going to be easy when you're merging different groups of people who don't know each other) the resolution to it all was very satisfyingly believable. By the end you could really see the dynamics beginning to form between the male characters and for me, I think, that is what was missing in the first book.

Easton and Remy continue to be their awesome selves, although Easton has his panties in a bunch for a little while. Tobias returns and is rightly pertubed to find the woman he's always loved with two men in her bed. Tobias was annoying at first, and he's still my least favourite, but he seriously redeemed himself by the end. And Valen... We'll, there's a pretty big revelation about him at the end and the fallout is going to be awesome. I love Valen a lot.

It's also refreshing to read about characters who are in their late 20's or older, but actually behave and speak like adults. In fact, I picture Adalyn and the others as more 30+ really, as there's a maturity there you often don't find, which is very refreshing.

If you love the first one you'll love this!

Werewolves and wranglers and epicness

Addy is a shining star. No, wait. She has a shining star. Pinned to her shirt. She also has 2 deputies in the form of powerful beings. Now, her dear friend, Tobias, has come back home, too. Just one problem, he wants to take things further than friendship. She'd be ok with that except she has her deputies already and isn't planning on giving them up. The boys aren't playing well with each other, either. William had hinted to Tobias, Valen and Maxwell that they should share their feelings. Witches don't do well with constraints, and he always wanted Addy happy. But with William gone, sort of- his gossiping ghost still lingers, Each of them thought Addy would be ok with the same type of relationship. Nope. Life has taken a new curve, one that allows her to have more. Be more. Potions were great, but actually getting to prove that witches, and women, have power? She's not looking back. Now if only these pesky human cattle thieves would quit picking fights they can't win with the werewolves...

Spoilers ahead.
Another brilliant story in the saga. I never, ever, thought I would like anything set in the Old West. Banet has proven me wrong. She has built a world where women aren't just things, accessories, broodmares. A female alpha, the head vampire is female and deadly as they come, Addy is a force of nature- literally, and even background female characters aren't to be taken lightly. Addy is starting to find her feet, both in her new career and in her new relationship(s?). Not sure if that's plural or not as they're a joint deal. But they are 2 separate men, very different from each other even if they are a package. In fact, all 5, can't forget Maxwell, even if he's located elsewhere at the moment, are all very different. Too many RH sort of lump the characters as a generic whole. Also, Addy isn't a ninny. She made known that she is only willing to accept anything on her terms. She's a wild witch. She bows to no man. What she shares of her life can be accepted or walked away from. The hints at certain characters genetic makeups are finally layed out. One was strongly hinted at in the last book. The other is discovered, right at the end. Cliffhangers can be done well, Banet has proven. And so much to look forward to in the next, too. Tobias finally moving forward, Easton learning to play well with others, Remy and his new changes, Maxwell gets to learn about the new gang dynamics and if he wants in on that madness, and Valen comes clean. Add in a vengeful new character, the fallout of the werewolves and wranglers and whatever new craziness Banet brings to the table lol.

Had trouble finishing the book. Parts were boring. Too much talking and nothing happens. Back and forth with feelings, inner monologues. Heroine got suddenly very annoying and bossy-like and Heroes lost their alpha-ness and their appeal. I'm finished with this series.

This one was a bit slower going than the previous book. The action was meh, the relationship building was somewhat frustrating. I really feel like guys who were that pissy about their place wouldn’t have changed their tune so quickly. But it made sense when explained too.

This book a lot of nothing really happened. Some humans are going after the werewolves. But the next book is going to be interesting. Stupid Maxwell. I can’t believe he did what he shouldn’t have said out loud. 🙄

Overall the book was just kind of mundane. I am still not sure I like Adalyn. He attitude and how she reacts to things somewhat annoys me. I find her personality to be super abrasive and that’s coming from someone who has been said to be abrasive.

I’d like to see where this goes and give it another shot with the next book. I definitely dig the Wild West feel, and like the secondary characters, the men. But that’s about it.

I went from a 3/4 to a 5/5 this book amped up the intrigue, amped up the sexual tension.
Remy and easton are still trying to figure out their place in redstone but the tension isn’t high schoolish. It’s grown ups figuring out life. You got a true picture of maturity and I for one am THRILLED!

Tobias comes home and shakes up all the hormones, this book was 70% character building / harem forming / 10% sexy times/ 20% actual action and story development which I actually loved. This is fast one of my favourite series by Kristen- she has knocked it out of the park yet again !!

Adalyn and her guys are back! This is shaping up to be one of my new favorite series. Adalyn is trying to figure out her new role as sheriff and also trying to figure out her relationships with the guys. The guys are trying to figure out their own dynamics with each other, and with the various alpha tendencies there are definitely some clashes. For me this book really focused on the relationship dynamics - Adalyn with the guys, Adalyn with the town, the guys with each other, and their own roles in the town. The ending does leave you with a big tease as to what will happen in book 3, and I can’t wait to see how that all plays out :)

I was really let down by the heroine in this second book. I thought she turned into a selfish person. She doesn't seem to care about anyone's feelings but her own and I thought she was kind of a bitch. I have read lots of other works by this author and never had this issue before. I don't think I will be reading any more of this series and I hope that this doesn't become a trend in her work in the future because I really like the other stuff she has written.

This book suffered too much from the typical Banet Syndrom - it draaaaaagged. It takes ages for things to happen and in between there is too much childish boy drama, and I choose the word boy here, because they were not acting like grown men. That shit got old really fast and made for an overall boring book.
As always I love the kickass feel from the heroine, a fact that made book one for me a little treasure, but that just couldn‘t make up for the problems in this book.

Great

The book started off a little slow but quickly picked up steam. I was pretty irritated with Addalyn running from her feelings of her best friends and lovers. Some major revelations on the origins of those people. Will be interesting to see where the story takes us next!

Eep!

Loved it! So exciting and refreshingly different with the Wild West theme. A nice slow burn reverse harem and things are heating up with Daddy and her guys! Absolutely thrilling and captivating and that ending! Eep! I can't wait for book three.

Werewolves & Wranglers is an awesome follow-up to the first in Banet's new series.

First and foremost, Adalyn remains her kick*ss self, staying true to the character I started to love after just a few chapters of Bounty Hunters & Black Magic. She's taking quickly to her role as Sheriff, putting mouthy shifters in their place, settling domestics, and making sure the men in her life know who's really in charge.

The main arc of the plot showcases Addie's biggest struggle- finding a way to make the men of Redstone see her as the powerful, authoritative woman that she is. When the werewolf alpha's poor decisions create a mountain out of an already dangerous mole hill, she has to step in and make it clear that she's truly the HBIC.

Unfortunately, there are some growing pains in W&W- not for Banet though, her writing remains strong. We get the scenes that we both want and need to craft a great story, character development, some secrets revealed (a nice juicy one at the end), and some steamy fun.

Addie's men, however, are not having nearly as easy of a time. This was one of the areas where I felt like Banet made a very smart decision-she keeps it real (or as real as you can get with nephilim, shamans, shifters, hellhounds, etc). The men do not gently mesh together into a happy family. There's bound to be drama when you take these factions of men who are virtually strangers to one another and ask them to share the attention of such a vibrant passionate woman.

We get arguments, a healthy amount of shade being flung, and the edges of violence that threaten Addie's HFN. However, when push comes to shove, the men finally start to get their sh*t together, and it seems like there could be much smoother waters ahead.

***NO SPECIFIC CONTENT SPOILERS AHEAD, but a general mention of something that will come in book 3***

Overall, I'm definitely invested in and enjoying this series. It seems like Maxwell will be coming back to Redstone in book 3, and oh man, he is bringing a ton of drama with him. I honestly can't wait to see how he tries to find his place in the little family that's started to forge at the end of W&W, and how he's going to fix the major OH SH*T that he causes at the end of book 2.

I absolutely adore Addy. She doesn't take anything from anyone. She ever. She is learning to be a Sheriff on her own terms and in her own way, not the way her Husband ran the town as Sheriff. His way just doesn't work for her. Remy is still my favorite and learning more about Easton is my favorite part. We learn who his father is and why he is the way he is.

The fact that Addy can love him is beyond belief to Easton. The fact that she loves him and Remy is the greatest thing in his world and the fear of losing that makes him do stupid stuff. Valen makes a more in-depth appearance in this and I am loving learning about him. I also adore we finally get to see him in action and learn who and what he is. I figured it out after the last book and I am glad to learn I was right. Everyone loves the hairy bear though.

Sweet Tobias goes a bit mental over Addy. And his reaction makes me cringe, but only because I know how Addy feels and he doesn't. He learns his lesson and has come to a truce. I want to know so much more about him and his skills and I feel like we spent so much of this book on his feelings for Addy and his distrust of Easton and Remington that I hope the next book spends more time on who he is and what he can do. We do learn some here, and I fear the next book is going to be more about Valen.

I love everything about this series. I love the willingness of Addy to not cow to men in her life, especially when that is what is expected of her. I love that she is proud of who and what she is and has risen to be what she is in spite of where she comes from, which is another thing we learn some about. I love that the men in her life don't bend to her will, but they accept what she has to say and don't try to manipulate her after she has made a decision. That they respect her enough to know herself and to have some agency. To know her own mind and not try to convince her otherwise. That kind of respect means a lot and needs to be represented more in books.

New Sheriff In Town

A new Sheriff's in town: Adalyn Lovett, a wild magic witch=full of uncontrollable magic, is just as wild as her magic. She is sassy, independent, moody, and stubborn. Clearly Addy doesn't give a d@$% about rules or her total disregard of propriety in the Wild West :)

Now the men of Redstone. This book centers around Addy finding her footing as the new Sheriff, her relationship with the townspeople, and her dynamic with her men. Her deputies: Easton and Remy. She also has a little trouble in paradise- now enters Tobias and what Valen? OK I know he's a ghost, but man I love William and is easy going demeanor. He hinted at how his friends had feelings for Addy and we get to see some of that in this book. Will everyone just get along or will Addy have to lay down the law? What will Max think of the new developments. I do love how Banet knows how to build her characters- the guys are definitely not cookie-cutter personalities. They have layers and new developments that you get to see as the books continue.

The only irritating part of this book was honestly the repetition of Addy's inner monologues about how she doesn't need a man or how independent she is. After a while it gets a bit old, a few times in book 1 then as a small reminder in any following books is okay, just not as prevalent as it was in this one. Also the overall "action/problem" in this book was not as thrilling. I mean I like how it follows that Addy and her budding "harem" are not perfect, but I did not see this character development of Easton's coming- though his punishment was great ;)

Overall, this book was an enjoyable read that definitely takes you on a journey into Adalyn's life. If you want instant harem and no teasers this is not for you. But if you want a bold FMC, and strong men who don't shy too much away from her wild nature (so far), then you'll Love this series

Romantic Problems for Addie

I would give this 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

This book starts around 1 month after the end of the last one. Addie has been living with Easton and Remi for that time and everything seems to be going great. All three are really happy with their new living arrangements and there is no pressure on any of them whilst they find their footing in their relationship.

Of course, that’s when things start to go awry. It turns out the Alpha Werewolf has been having problems with cattle theft and hadn’t bothered to tell the new sheriff, because he thought it made him look weak to ask for help from a woman.

Tobias, one of Adalyn’s best and oldest friends has returned and he’s finally ready to tell her how he feels. This causes problems between Easton and Tobias. On top of that Valan has decided to throw his hat into the ring too. All of a sudden Adalyn is inundated with men and their bickering is not making her happy.

I felt the plot in this book was slightly weaker than in the first book, but there was more focus on the relationship side of things. There was also more concentration on how Adalyn wanted to do the job of sheriff and what work would make her fulfilled and happy.

If I hadn’t read the first book I would have been raving about this one, which I feel is a little unfair of me, but I can’t help but feel the plot could have been better and than it would have been as perfect as the first book. I know this is the reason I’ve only given it 4 stars but I just can’t give it 5.

However, I have high hopes for the next book in the series, because there was a great set up for what comes next at the end of the book. Fingers crossed it will be as good as I imagine!

Love it! Dying to read book 3 soon. Spoiler alert. Don’t read any further cause I’m about to recap book 2 for myself as a reminder of how it ended (something I can look back on before beginning book 3 when it comes out).

If you haven’t read books 1 & 2 yet, turn away now.

Okay, I warned you. By the end of book 2, all the guys finally realize that they’re going to lose Addy if they don’t stop fighting among themselves. They agree to share her, much to her surprised pleasure. But as soon as that’s figured out, we discover that Remy is now effected by the werewolf bite/curse and is some sort of werehellhound now. And Remy losing control of his shifter side caused Easton to almost lose control of his nephilim side since the two are bonded to help give Remy added control. When Easton almost lost it, Valen discovered that Easton’s father is the angel of death. Meanwhile, Maxwell was back East getting the Marshal service to permanently station him in their small town and he was doing research on what Valen is. Turns out he’s a Slavic god. But when he discovered this he said Valen’s name out loud, something Valen told him never to do. It seems some other god heard him (Maxwell heard thunder indoors and saw “thank you” written on his paper) and now that god knows where to find Valen. Maxwell is racing back to town now. The end.

Werewolves and Wranglers is the second book of the Witch of the Wild West Series by Kristen Banet and it was amazing. Kristen has created a unique Wild West Paranormal Reverse Harem book. I was hooked the minute I started reading and I couldn’t put it down. It is steamy, fast paced, and action packed. The main character Adalyn is a powerful witch and the sheriff of Redstone, she is new at the job and still learning how best to keep the town safe. Remy, a hellhound shifter, and Easton, a Nephilim, are her deputies at work and bed partners at night. Tobias a Shaman and old friend has come back to town with the goal to win her heart which causes tension for everyone including Valen another old friend who seems have feelings for Adalyn as well. On top of all that there is trouble between the humans and werewolves that they must all work together to protect the town. This series has everything I love in a reverse harem. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see what is next for Adalyn and her men!

There are only a very few writers that I absolutely love, and Kristen Banet is one of them. This is the second book in her new series, and it is as much fun to read as it was for her to write as she has admitted in her note at the end of this book. We learn more about Addy, Easton, Remy, and Valen too, in this second book...and we meet Tobias and find out where he fits into this unique tale of Western frontier that is riddled with supernatural characters. World building in the town of Redstone is revealing even more depth, and the characters are befriended by us, the readers, in a natural way. They are relatable, they all show characteristics of people in real life, yet they have the supernatural "otherness" traits we want to see and expect. The reader simply gets immersed into the story in a wonderful way. I highly recommend any and all of her books...I've yet to read one that just didn't click with me, Ms. Banet is THAT good a storyteller.

OMG, wow I am kinda speechless. Kristen has absolutely flawed me with this one and whilst I loved the first book I am even more in Love with this one.
I love that the Wild West world Kristen has created it is so vast and intriguing and the town of Redstone always has some kind of action and drama to keep you entertained.
Addy is such a strong and independent character that you can’t help but love her and her wild ways.
The guys are so different and loveable. I am so in love with Tobias, whist Maxwell is still my favourite but all the guys have something that makes you love them and their flaws.
I am so excited for the next book to see what happens in their quaint little town, and to see what happens when Maxwell come back and they are all finally together, it’s going to be so much fun.

Kristen, Kristen, Kristen.... why do you leave me in such suspense! Holy hot bartender. There is so much I want to say about this book, but I would be spilling spoilers like crazy! We get more Remy, and Easton. Tobias... oh Mr. Sweet. Welcome home. My welcome mat is always out for our favorite bartender. The way the characters interact is how I feel a reverse harem would really work. Jealousy, possessive, there is always that one that just hates to share. We get further into the werewolves and werecats in this edition to the series. So much going on you will not want to miss it. If you haven’t read the first book start there and then pick this one up immediately after! You will not be disappointed. Come on book three!

She just wants to get laid and save her town. A woman after my own heart.

Wow. Another one knocked right out of the park. I really enjoyed this book, some of my issues with the dress seemed to have been overlooked in this one. It didn't feel as dramatic as the trust book and instead felt too much like an angsty relationship drama but hoo boy did I enjoy it. Adalyn is the female protagonist of my dreams. And the way Kristen Banet writes these feminist idol type characters is amazing. Move over boys I think I'm half in love with Adalyn. Really anxious to see how Valen fits in to the sexy times fun because damn! I think he is my favourite.... Maybe he shares that with Remy. Regardless I am loving this story and cannot wait for more!!!!

This book was an incredible continuation of a one of a kind series. I love that Kristen Banet has created this rich world where the supernatural exists without hiding in the old west. Adalyn is an amazing FMC who knows what she wants, and goes for it, but is realistic enough to struggle a little along the way. It was interesting to see her men fighting against each other a bit, especially since it was authentic to the characters and the situation. We also learn a lot about some of her more mysterious men, and some of this information is going to lead into the next book. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Fun Series

I don't like westerns and don't particularly like cowboys but I am really enjoying this series. As usual, with this author, the main female character Adalyn is strong and powerful but not perfect. It has been a lot of fun watching her find her footing as her world shifts. I love how the harem aspect was executed. It wasn't an easy decision and the idea didn't just suddenly appear out of nowhere. That along with the characterization made it feel more realistic which is hard to find in RH novels. The world and the magic is interesting and I am really looking forward to seeing more in book 3!

These books are an instant read for me. I stalk release dates, just because they're so much fun to read. The characters are excentric, none more so than the main character, and now that we get to see more of most of the men, it's obvious they also got a slice of crazy pie, too. I love the unashamed madness that just follows Adalyn, the main character, at all times. I also love these books because they really do lean into the 'wild' in Wild West. I'd recommend these to anyone looking for a pick-me-up or just fun, light-hearted read. The quality of writing is brilliant, like always, and the plot has enough twists to keep the reader interested.

Another fantastic book!

Can I just say, I want to be Adalyn when I grow up. I love her and her so much. Again, it's hard to write this review because I keep wanting to give examples why I love them, but can't because of spoilers! So I'll just say this: you want to laugh, you will. You want all the feels, you will. You want steam, you'll melt. You want excellent world building and characters so real you need them in your life, you'll have it.

Just read the books. They're awesome and you'll be going back for more in no time.

Fantastic sequel in this new series! I truly, truly enjoyed this book so very much. This paranormal wild west world that Banet has created had me hooked from the get-go and flipping the pages like crazy to see what happened next! The characters are fantastic and Adalyn is one badass witch. I love the way the relationships between the characters have progressed thus far and I love reading about the adventures they get up to in Redstone. I can't wait to see what happens next! I highly recommend this book!

What a fun read!

I love Kristen's writing but this series is different to her other books. Although there is plenty of action and emotional content, this book is more light-hearted. I love Adelyn as a character and would love to be part of her world. The characters and relationships are believable and likable and with the dramatic reveal at the end of this book I can't wait for the next!

Didn't grab me this time around

This was an ok read, dragged on a bit and after awhile found myself skimming through the pages looking for some action. I liked how the RH is playing into effect, but I had an issue with addy sometimes and her I am women hear me roar attitude. It was so repetitive her constantly blabbing on an on about how she's the boss, she's in control. I kinda started not liking her for it. Not sure if I want to read on at this point to be honest.

I got this book early in exchange for an honest review. I loved loved loved it! This is a great sequel, picks up where the last one left off and continues the journey of Addy being her kickass self. Sex scenes were hot (although not as hot as the last book. Bring back the extra steam please) and I kept falling for her characters.

A truly good RH

A lot of RH books out there are simply written, with poor editing, and minimal character development. This book is way above the curve. While not as spicy as some, the sexy times are true to the characters’ personalities and are not the focus to the romance but a complement. Overall, a really good RH!

Went in circles

I loved the first book but this one just left me frustrated. It was only a quarter of a book that just kept rotating. She said ‘we need to talk’ so often it could become a drinking game and Tobias was a dush and very boring I had my fingers crossed he would get killed off. If you liked the first one just skip this one and keep good memories.
